Check out our Turn 4 answers to some burning questions: Which race was better Sunday? Is the Cup sked too long? Who will win 4 Indy 500s first, Dario or Helio? Who is the Cup title favorite right now? http://tinyurl.com/83zhofy
Do you think that if Kurt got married,it would calm him down?like Kyle getting married to Samantha did.
He was married. He has a wonderful girlfriend now. And marriage didn't settle down Kyle. Getting booted out of a race and almost losing his sponsor did.
The Indianapolis 500 was good, but do you really think it was good enough to spark some new interest in Indycar and keep the series going?
I hope so Kevin. But what that series really needs is a rivalry between Marco Andretti and Graham Rahal with both of them winning races.
Who do you have winning the Stanley Cup Finals?
I'll go with the Kings since they shockingly eliminated my Vancouver Canucks in the first round.
Hi Terry, my dad exposed me to various forms of motorsports as a kid growing up in the '80s, but I could never get into open wheel. The parity NASCAR achieved with the COT car has made stock car racing a parody, and I'm seriously considering giving Indy car another look again. Has the racing really gotten that much better due to the introduction of the new pseudo open wheel car?
It was way better Sunday. The best Indy 500 I've seen in over a decade. I'm anxious to see what it does at Texas in two weeks. NASCAR is going through a transition right now with the Cup cars. The new car next year is going to make a big difference.
I know drivers have to be retired for a certain number of years. But what's the criteria for owners, crew chiefs to qualify for the hall of fame
Owners like Hendrick and Childress or eligible, although I think some voters may shy away from them right now because they see them as still active.
Hey TB- Awesome Indy500 - your articles, especially the one about DW have been stellar. 1.Your opinion on Sato and Dario "he said /he said" at the finish? 2. Happy seems to be getting progressively better, is he gonna win one soon? 3. Is Kasey Kahne really that humble, his post race interviews were refreshing. Thanks as always!!!
Hey Laura. Good questions. 1. I appleaud Sato for going for it. It's the last lap of the Indy 500. Try to make something happen. 2. I don't know about Harv. I'm not sure the RCR stuff is so hot right now. 3. Yes, Kasey really is they quiet humble guy. They love him up here in the Pac NW, where he's from.
Is it me or does the 11 sem to be having his best season so far?
I don't know about his best season. 2010 was pretty good. But he's competitive and he has some tracks coming up where he's really good, especially Pocono.
Forget about wrecks, re-starts make racing exciting, but should not be determined by randomness of someone else wrecking. Solution: competition cautions (and re-starts) approximating fuel runs.
Even Jeff Burton brought that up as an idea this year, but i don't see it happening. Doug Demmons of the Birmingham paper wrote a great column today about changing the 600 to two 300-mile races with full points for each. I'd be all for that. Shorter is better.
Any rumors on who could sponsor the track at Sonoma? How about Twitter? Aren't they based in San Francisco? Or maybe Wells Fargo Bank? Some company or institution from the West Coast!
I don't think they are in any rush to find a track sponsors. And frankly, I like tracks with their own name and not a corp. name, but I'm old school on that one. If we're picking, how about Robert Mondavi Raceway
I'm thinking about naming my daughter Danica, is that a good idea>
Why not? Will her middle name be Go-Daddy?
That whole RCR bunch and especially Burton seem to be behind the Big 4 (Gibbs, Roush, HMS and Penske). Is that because GM gives top line support to HMS only?
No. But they have completely separate engine programs. RCR is with Earnhardt Ganassi and Hendrick is solo, but leases equipment to SHR and several other teams.
Listening to Marco on the radio it seemed like he paniced when things weren't going well. He still needs to mature. Dario kept his cool after getting spun in the pits
An excellent point Scott. Marco gets way to emotional in the cockpit. I thought he blew when he thought he had a tire going down, but didn't.
Why do you think that JJ's crew seems to keep messing up at the worst times? They win the challenge one week and mess up at least 3 times in one night, the next week. What gives?
It's surprising. But that's why I picked Kenseth as the title favorite today over JJ. They keep making little mistakes that haunt them.
Any rumors on the Dodge cars for next year
No, and if we don't hear anything by July, I think they are in deep trouble. As I said, If I'm Chip, I make this move, but there's a lot to work out on an engine program.
As a long time DEI fan, I'm disappointed in seeing how Juan Pablo and Jamie are running. What will it take to get DEI back to winning like they did when Dale was alive?
In my opinion, leave Chevy for Dodge. Chip always will be the 3rd wheel at Chevy behind Hendrick and RCR, and maybe a fourth wheel when you throw in SHR.
I need some help with my fantasy pick this week. Who's your pick for Dover?
I think Biff will be good, as will Kenseth. Carl should run well along with JJ and Kyle. If you ask me to pick one, I'll pick Biff.
I read where Kale Yarborough said the first 6 races were boring as heck. Doesn't NASCAR need to listen when a man of Kale's stature says something like that?
You mean Cale, but NASCAR is working on it. They raised the side-panel to reduce downforce, but they need to do more. Heck, I would cut the spoiler down and take off the splitter. Now that would be exciting. But NASCAR doesn't want to go crazy on changes with a new car coming out next season.
Do you think NASCAR would ever consider removing the starter from the cars a la F1 and IndyCar? It would eliminate BS fuel-saving techniques and help to provide a more straight-up race.
Interesting perspective in turn 4 on # of races. As much as I love NASCAR and miss it, I tend to agree less is more and not competing with College FB and NFL. Do you think NASCAR will ever consider this?
Ever? Sure. Right now? No. It's tough to cut back because no track wants to lose a race. But at some point you have to consider what is best for the sport overall, and fewer races is better.
Are the Andretti talks Serious or just rumors
Michael has thought about if the sponsorship was in place. But it's a long way from happening.
Where do you see Kurt Bush ? I most def think JGR in the 20
Maybe, or maybe a fourth car there we another sponsor if Home Depot doesn't want to go down that road.
I am a long time Urt fan. Any chance he gets any sponsors for this year?
Kurt and the 51 will have some one-off sponsors here and there, but no full-time deal is coming.
TB was that restart by Kanaan just awesome and was that the loudest you have heard a crowd at Indy in a long time
It was fun, a lot like will Dale Jr. takes the lead at Daytona or Dega. Almost everyone wants TK to win one because he's come so close so many times and he's such a good guy.
Did Sato get too aggressive on the final lap of the 500? Why make that move then?
He might have waited until Turn 3, but I have no problem with what he did. Everyone was passing the leader on the frontstretch all day because of the tow the trailing car gets on that long straight. Sato took his shot and it didn't work out, but I applaud him for going for it.
Is the 24 season turning around?
Not unless he starts winning races. That's the only way he's going to make the Chase now.
Does the Andretti curse live, or will Marco win Indy?
I think Marco will win at Indy before he's done. Remember, he's only 25. But the curse is alive and well for no.
Will we see any NASCAR guys (besides Danica) try the Indy 500 in the next couple of years?
Not likely. It's just not worth it unless you know you have great equipment, and even with that, it almost impossible to compete unless you've practiced there all month.
I am a long time KBM fan. Why are many NW regulars like Dillon outrunning Urt and Kyle in NW? I thought they would win all 33 races? Thanks.
Because the Busch boys aren't racing JGR equipment. It's Kyle's team, but they are improving quite a bit. And I for one am thrilled NW regs are winning more races.
Hi Terry, overall, what grade would you give the race this weekend? I thought it was a B
I would grade them individually. Charlotte _ C. Monaco _ B. Indy _ A+.
What do you think of the reporter asking Mr. H if Dale Junior was a "lost cause" at the post race press conference? Was that a dumb question or what? I am sure Mr. H didnt appreciate being asked that...
I didn't hear about that, but if it happened, it's ridiculous and unprofessional. Junior is fourth in the standings and has nine top 10s.
Is Biffle going to hang on and win it all?
I think Biff will be in the hunt until the end, but he's not my pick for the title.
Do you know if Bill Elliot will race for the win in the fire cracker 400 or start and park
I don't think he will start and park. He'll give it his best shot, but I doubt it will be enough. And I wish that still was the name of the race.
Do you think Carl Edwards is more interested in media work at ESPN than in racing?
Of course not. How silly. But I think Carl has a future in broadcastiong when his racing career is over. That's a long way off.
Terry how good of friends are Dario and Jimmie Johnson and who were all the people in the media rooting for at Indy
No one roots in the MC, but I think deep down most of us would have loved to see TK win it at the end when he took the lead.
Is it really fair to the fans near to a track to cut races just because nationally there might be too many?
Yes, because they aren't coming to two events a year at some of these places.
I'm afically no longer a dale jr fan can't wait any longer its bad anough I have to deal with the cleveland browns. Let's go bad brad
You do realize he could win the championship without winning a race?
Any private rumblings regarding Danica and her Nascar experiment? Seems to be missing what could be prime years in open wheel.
No going back at this point. She's in NASCAR for a couple of years at least at this point. It's too early to put a verdict on her. She raced pretty well in the NW event at Charlotte. The 600 was pitiful. Yes, she finished. Big deal. She made laps and that was it. That's not good enough.
How does NASCAR get the type of passing they had at Indy?
Make the cars harder to drive with less downforce.
Do you think we are pretty much stuck with the boring parades that have become much of the racing lately until the new car debuts in 2013?
No, I think the season has ups and down. Teams will adjust. We might see a heck of a show at the Monster Mile Sunday. I hope so since I'll be there.
Hamlin says points racing is the reason for less cautions. Agree?
Not entirely. Guys have beenm racing for points for a long time now. But I thnk it would help to add points for winning and not award points for a finish lower than 25th.
So why did NASCAR add so much downforce?
It's been a gradual things over the years. the same is true in IndyCar. It makes the cars much safer to drive, but the pendulum has swung too far one way and needs to change.
If NASCAR didn't have The Busch Brothers who would the haters have to hate on?
I see plenty of Dale Jr and Danica haters every week in these chats.
Answer someone else's questions. That's 2 in the last 4 for Jim in Washington.
I might answer a question you had if you used a real name.
Do you think Stewart will focus 100% on running Danica in both the Indy 500 and the 600 so she can do the double like she said she wants to do?
Tony couldn't care less whether she does it or not.
Is it true that Jimmie gets booed as much or more than Rowdy?
Not even close.
Hey Terry, To me the 29 looks like it is headed for another winless drought. What are they missing?
If they knew they would fix it. It isn't just the 29. RCR is down, and if I had to say one reason, I would say losing comp. director Scott Miller to MWR is a big one.
How come you never address the Danica/Dale hate you see in these chats? Is it because they bring up valid points?
True, but the also added the wildcard spots for winning. And not awarding points past 25th would help.
What do you think of Mario Andretti's observation the Indy Cars need more power and less downforce. Currently the driver is 20% of the equation instead of 50%.
I agree, but how can anyone complain with what they saw at Indy. It was great racing.
Do you think Richard might park Burton for 6 races and put Skinner in the #31 so they can figure out if the problem is car or driver?
Yes, and I think the cow flew over the moon.
How cool is it to see Justin Lofton leading the Truck Series point standings! Do you see him being able to keep the points lead and win the championship?
Not sure, but I love how so many young guys are competitive in Trucks. That's what a feeder series should have.
Not a question, but would like to say thank you to you Terry and everyone at ESPN for doing such a great job covering the sport that I love.
Thank you Todd. That's very nice of you to say. We do our best and I'm extremely proud to be part of the ESPN team. It has some truly talented people.
Todd - Totally agree with you!
And Laura, by the way, is one of our most informed chatters, on the weekly chats and our race chats.
Did you get a chance to speak to Susie Wheldon while you were at the Indy 500? How is she doing?
She's OK, but still has tough days. I was very proud of her for coming to the race. It has helped her tremendously having Scott and Emma Dixon move down to St. Pete to be close to her and the boys.
How cool is it to work with a HoF in Rusty Wallace? He seems really humbled by being picked to get in so quickly.
I was so happy for him because I know he didn't expect it. And Rusty truly deserves it _ 55 wins, a Cup title. He's been a team owner and track designer, and he's a broadcaster. What more could he do?
Thanks TB - you just made my entire year :) Off to watch NASCAR Now!
Thanks for watching. I'm out folks. Great chat today with some strong questions. Have a great week. Monster Mile, here I come. Peace.
