Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Let's get rolling.

Grover (Denver)

Bill what are your thoughts on Manning so far?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

So far, so good. He has past every test he has had so far. The only question is if he can hold up in the season. As of now, everyhting looks good.

Carson Ross (San Diego)

Ever since Jamal Williams got hurt and left the Chargers no one has stepped up to fill that roll. Is the 3-4 scheme as affective with out a big nose tackle or do you think Garay may eventually be at the same level?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Garay is nearing the end. He is good, but his time is limited. The Chargers really like Cam Thomas. Expect him to get more and more playing time.

Steve (Nahsua, NH)

Bill... with a pretty strong offseason in addressing weaknesses, through free agency, the draft and returning injured players, where do you think my hometown Chiefs still need to address deficiencies?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

The last real quesiton is QB. It all lies on Cassel.

Atilla (St. Louis)

Can Siler bring much to the table this year? Wasn't he brought in to bring more pass rush to the team? If healthy, and we could blitz from the inside and with Hali and Houston on the outside, this could be VERY good. Thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

He is an inside presence. He may push Belcher. If not, expect him to shine on special teams.

John (Galt)

Hey Bill...Why haven't I heard anything about using Ladarius Greene (6'6, 4.52 40) as a WR? Comparing him to VJ (6'5,4.46 40) he seems like he could potentially fill those shoes as an outside WR. Especially since the TE position is a thing of depth and strength for the Chargers compared to the question marks of the WR group.

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

His career is just getting going. They like him as an eventual Gates' replacement. But you never know what cnan happen once camp rolls around. But I see him as a Te at this point.

Lincoln (WY)

What type of deal is Bowe looking for? Megatron or V Jax?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

It's clearly up there or they would have a deal by know. Soctt Pioli has a storng track record of signign his own guys in K.C. Clearly, Bowe wants a ton.It could be coming down to this: Bowe is banking he oan huge seoasn to cash in on free agency and the Chieifs are waiting to see if Jonathan Baldwin can have a big year and become the No. 1 in 2013 if Bowe does end up leaving.

evan (aguanga ca) [via mobile]

how is it that denver has improved its team in all areas except for special teams and maybe linebacker and yet they are expected to do worse this year with an all-pro qb than last year with a qb whp could narely complete 10 passes a game

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I think the biggest issue is the schedule. It is the second toughest in the NFL. Denver can go 8-8 again and be a much better team.

Spiegel (Stevenson Ranch,CA)

Any updates on Rolando McClain's legal troubles? How will it affect him this season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

No court date yet. The only thing that can affect his 2o12 season is if Roger Roogell decides to punish him before the legel issue is resolved. It's possible.

PT (NC)

Do you think it's premature for analysts to say the Raiders defense will have a drop off, when they are finally going to use a modern scheme, and despite losing Routt and Wimbley, have added solid players in Wheeler, Tollefson, Burris (Draft), and Bartell?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

It's three months before the start of the season. Eveything ispremature.

NICHOLAS A WHITE (afghanistan)

Chances Pioli is in the hot seat with a lack luster season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

I don't think so. I think Pioli is in good standing right now.

Spiegel (Stevenson Ranch,CA)

Who do you see as the Raiders starting tight end on opening night?

Ryan (Denver)

Who do you see getting the safety nod for the broncos this year? I think Carter and Adams will start and Moore will look more and more like a wasted pick.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

At this point, Myers or Ausberry. On Denver: I think you got the tandem right. But don't discard Moore yet. He has a chance. He was lost as a rookie, but that is not uncommon.

Fett (Joy riding in Darths Tie Fighter)

BW, Word is that Ingram will play OLB and DE...anything on possibly having him work at the ILB position as well? I figure that IF he is what we think he is...that the more downs he plays, the better SD defense will be.

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

He'll be moved around. I think the plan is to make him primarily a rush linebacker, but he has flexibility to play in a lot of looks. As for playing inside, maybe that will be incorporated, but he will be mor of an outside guy.

Possum (Im on a boat!)

Good day Bill!Have you heard anything about the DJ suspension? Do you think it will be reduced or eliminated all together? Possum > Twilight

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

It's still in the works. Should be done sometime this summer. These things take time.

jesse (rhode island)

i think hillis only helps charles.. is charles going too have a season like in 2010 with the addition of a upgraded offenisive line?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Charles is primed for a big year because of his sourroundings. If he is healthy (and I think he will be), he could have a huge year.

Alex (Minnesota)

With Kansas City continuing to add depth on both sides of the ball do you think they are one of the deepest AFC teams? If so, how will this help them down the last stretch of the regular season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I like this roster and I think it is on it ways to good things. But to compare it to the best of the AFC may be premature. We need to see what the Chiefs do with all this talent first.

Ramie (PA)

Do you see Joe Mays with a breakout year since he has big guys in the trenches eating up blocks or do you see him faltering and the broncos moving forward with Nate Irving?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Mays is a solid vet, but the team wants to see Irving take the next step. He has long-term potnetial.

Corey (D.C.)

How big of a role do you expect Kevin Boss to play? He seems to fit in well with the offense.

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

We'll see a lot of double tight end sets with Boss and Moeaki. I think they can be a great pair. It's another dimension to a varied offense. I like this pairing a lot.

Jackson (Fort Collins)

What are the chances of Omar Boldin be a starter by next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

He is a prospect who has a chance to be good,. Porter is signed for one season, so perhaps he will get the chance if he is worthy.

Jackson (Fort Collins)

Do you see Joel Dreessen having a significant role in the broncos offense?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

He and Tamme will both play a big role. Dreessen can stretch the field and I think he can be a big aprt of the Denver offense.

Buck (Quincy)

Who do you think will end up being the Raiders backup RB at the start of the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Probably Goodson with Jones filling a change-of-pace role. I think Jones will be most effective in that role.

Jackson (Fort Collins)

Should Bronco fans buy into the hype of Sealver Siliga or does he just look good because most players look decent during OTA's?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Eveyr team has OTA heroes. I like to wait to the preseason before crowning players.

Dan A. (Rochester, NY)

Bill, any update on Branch signing a long term deal? Are they still talking?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

No real update. He wants one, but the Raiders have other things going on right now. But it's a goal of both sides, so i think somehting can be worked out.

Ramie, Colorado [via mobile]

Bdub! Do you see, former Colt, Anthony Gonzalez making his way to Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Denver had a chance and didn't sign him before New England signed him,. Bow that he has been cut, I just don;t see him being a vialbe option for anyone. He clelary is not healthy.

Eliab (Canada)

What kind of performance should Chiefs fans expect from Dontari Poe in his first year? Can he provide the interior pass rush that could make that defense elite?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

He will be given the chance to earn playing time right away at nose tackle. But that is a very difficult posiiton to come in and shine at. So, his learning curve will be steep.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Rather have Tamme/Dreesen or Moeaki/Boss?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Moekai and Boss.

Fett (Taco Bell drive thru in Darths Tie Fighter)

BW, with KC having another soft schedule...do you see them returning to the 2010 level of play?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

It' all set up for them for sure.

Drew (The Ced)

I'm hearing a lot about Miles Burris in Raider OTAs. Is there really any way of telling if a defensive player is going to be good based on non contact OTAs? What have you seen of him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

He is a special teams prospect right away and he is a player who can potentially start fairly early in his career.

Dan A. (Rochester, NY)

Bill, in Gary Horton's article today of AFC breakout players, he mentioned DHB. I was surprised it wasn't D. Moore. Which one do you think will break out this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

I think DHB already broke out, so I'll go with Moore.

McNutty (Seattle)

Best TE combo in the AFCW?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

Kansas City.

Tim (New Jersey)

Hey Bill, I just got done reading your blog poll report about Rolando McClain. Since he was drafted in 2010, don't you think he deserves at least one more year to prove himself before Reggie boots him to the curb?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Yes, I do. Bene saying that for awhile.

Eron (Pinedale, WY)

Between Wolfe (DE on run downs) and Malik Jackson (nickel pass-rushing DT), is Ayers in danger of losing significant snaps? Other than his 2-sack performance in Pitt, he had a solid, if ordinary, year.

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Ayers is solid, not great. Got better against the run.

Tom Will (swagg central)

Any idea why Knapp is getting a pass in the Raider nation (dealing with Jamarcus) and McClain isn't (dealing with two awful coordinators)?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

It's all based on hope in the Raider Nation. Everyone is giving the benefit of the doubt when they come to Oakland by the fans there. The fans believe in Allen and they believe in his choices, so they believe in Knapp 2.0.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

There are a lot of young receivers in the division that look good...Dem Thomas, Decker, Baldwin, Floyd, Den. Moore...how would you rank them?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Did that a few Mondays ago.

Elway (Denver)

If Manning gets hurt and has to retire...Oz tanks and Tebow leads the Jets to a SB win....is my image in Denver tainted forever?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

It wouldn't help you, Duke.

Randy (Grove, OK)

The Chiefs finished well under Romeo Crennell last season. Will that carry over to this years team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

That is certainly the goal of Pioli. He is banking on it. The players love Crennel and they play hard for him. That doens't work forever, but Crennel is a coach who has his player's support.

Elmer Fudd (Hunting Possums)

Any word on the Broncos RB Depth chart? Fannin making a play for more PT?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

He missed last season with a torn ACL after being signed as an undrafted free agent. The Bronxos like him,. but he has to prove himself.

Brian (San Jose)

Biggest concern for the Raiders currently is...

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Dpeth. They cna't sustian too many injuries.

David (Santa Clarita, CA)

Just took a look at your backup QB ratings. Do you really think that the AFC West's are as bad as all that? Each of them has at least some potential. Hanie was terrible in Chicago last year, but he actually played decently in relief of Cutler in that NFC Championship against GB the year before. Whitehurst has never really shown anything, but considering everything Seattle gave up for him, he must be able to do something right. And Leinart and Quinn were both 1st rounders that were abandoned in the wake of coaching changes before they had a chance to really develop or do much of anything. Their best days could very well still be in front of them.

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

It's not a good group. I've talked to some scouts and they all agree. But with Pryor, Osweiler and Stanzi, maybe the future is bright.

Tim (New Jersey)

What will Travis Goethle's role on the Raiders d be this year

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

He'd be the starting MLB if McClain is out.

VonDoom (Wyoming)

Denvers starting DT's game one of the season are _________ and __________.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Just a guess, Wolfe and Bannan.

David (Santa Clarita, CA)

Nice to see a little bit of recognition for DHB in that Horton article today. Seems like just about everyone else in the media forgot 2011 even happened and were still calling him a bust.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

DHB earned my respect last year. I look forward to seeing him trying to get better.

benw32 (Planet Earth)

What do you and your constituents think of Ronnie Hillman? The more I read about him, the more excited I get.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

I know some folks who think he will take over as the starter this year and be much more than a change of pace guy. It will be interesting to watch.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Great hour folks. Talk to next week.
