Hey guys, sorry, got kicked off my wireless card signal just as I was jumping into the chat. Sorry for the delay.
Do the Wolverines play Alabama this year? I hope so. That should be fun to watch Saban take care of the Wolverines before MSU does for the fifth straight year.
Elisha Manning is not as good as Matthew Stafford.
Wes, I like Stafford a lot! And the Lions too. I think because I went to Michigan State, I have always had a soft spot for the Lions. But until Stafford wins two Super Bowls and two Super Bowl MVPs, you can't say that.
Who do you think will be the Best Rookie for the Giants in 2012?
Chris, it's probably going to be between David Wilson and Rueben Randle. If you are asking me who is going to be more productive, my guess will be Randle because I think he could get more opportunities. But we'll have to see.
Do u think amukamara will ever be a shut down corner
Brenden, shut down corner is something you don't find very often. If Prince ever becomes that, it is going to take a while. People have to have patience with him. His rookie season was a wash. And he has been a bit behind this year due to the injection to his foot. If he ever becomes a shut down corner, probably two to three years away from that if that is the case. And even if he doesn't become one, people shouldn't be disappointed. There aren't many of those shutdown corners anyway. Just hope he becomes a really good cornerback who will be the Giants starter perhaps next season or the season after that and stays there.
Hey Ohm, why do so many NFL experts say the Giants will go through a Super Bowl hangover don't they remember after we won SB 42 the following year we were rolling until Plax shot himself. Your more close to the Giants inside then i am but from the outside the players seem motivated to repeat ?
Well, I think people tend to look and see that it is very hard to repeat. The Giants' schedule is killer. Their division is extremely tough. And then some people have a hard time forgetting that the Giants were a 7-7 team at one point last year that struggled. I think they are motivated but you have to remember and always admit this -- the Giants love to make life difficult on themselves and usually take the hard road rather than the easy one.
As for are they motivated, I think so... but it is just June... let's see how it goes in September.
Ohm, as we get set for training camp to begin in 3 weeks or so what do you see as some of the more competitive position battles on this team?
Hey John, we can look at linebacker where there will be serious competition for roster spots and certain packages. Tight end will be a position to watch to see who will start alongside Bear Pascoe and be the receiving tight end target for Eli this year. Backup running back, who will replace Jacobs? And third wide receiver... who will replace Manningham. That one may be the most intriguing competition of them all. I think offensive line is set if they can remain healthy with Beatty at left tackle and Diehl at RT.
How many TDs are you predicting for Cruz?
Alex, hard to predict. Victor is going to see a lot more defensive attention this year. He only had one touchdown in the postseason last year when teams tried to stop him. And Nicks went off. I will say between 8-12 touchdowns for Cruz. He's still a playmaker who can bust one at any point. And he and Eli's rapport should only get better but he will have to deal with more double coverage and more safety over the top.
Do you think the giants are set at tight end with bennet(who has been a underwhelming player at best) or can we expect them to make a move ?
Justin, we have to see through camp first. But if you are asking me if the Giants are going to make a deal for a tight end, I would say no. Could they pick up a tight end later that is waived by another team, perhaps. But I think they stick with what they got.
Hey Ohm, how do you think the giants will handle their running game after bradshaw? will wilson be the clear cut backup? And how ill they use the rookie Jyron Hosley?
Adam, remains to be seen. Ware, Wilson, Brown and Scott are competing for that spot. My guess right now in June? They go with Ware because they trust him and he has a grasp on the offense. If he is ineffective, then you could see more Brown and Wilson. Wilson has to learn pass protection scheme and offense. Once he gets hang of it, you could see more of him. They like his speed and explosiveness.
Oh, and as for Jayron, he will get a chance to be the extra cornerback in nickel situations. Will compete for that and could see some time at punt returner and special teams.
And if he really impresses, perhaps he could fight for fourth CB spot and maybe even push Prince or a veteran at the third CB spot.
Hey Ohm, I hope no one asks any questions about Barden or Da'rel Scott. They have been non-factors so I dont understand the hype they get each year. What I want to know about is the offensive line. This is one unite that scares me. Do you feel confident in their ability to protect Eli.
Uncle Buck, it's hard to go through a chat without someone asking about those two. They are excited about their potential. Offensive line is a bit up in the air simply because Beatty has been out with a back injury. But I think they can't do worse than last year when they finished last in rushing but came on toward the end. Yeah, Eli was knocked around a lot in that NFC title game too by SF. But I think with a whole training camp and offseason to gel, they should be better than last year. I am not ready to say they will be an elite line, though. But you are right, we have to see what is going to happen with them. I don't think they are going to be so bad that Eli is running for his life every play. Eli and the coaching staff will make the line good enough. They won a Super Bowl last year after all with that line which had injuries too. Baas should be better in his second year as well if healthy.
Ohm great work. My neigbor just got a puppy and named him Sparty in your honor. We both love ur work. I know Eli stepped up bigtime last yr during our run, but how good do uthink our offensive line will be this yr??? Eli much to there shortcomings pulled some plays out of his ****
Ray, you are pulling my leg man. But I'll take it anyways even if you are joking with me. LOL. Thanks for the praise. Much appreciated. Eli did last year and really showed his toughness in the NFC championship game. Kind of like how I said in the previous answer, I think the line should be better than last year, I don't know how much better but they have a full offseason of coaching and training and time to gel. Of course, Beatty has been out with a back injury but he says he will be ready for camp. You gotta believe Eli will have them all on the same page by the start of the season. But can they spark the running game and protect Eli? I don't think you will see Eli getting hit 12 times every game but I also don't think you will see Eli go without a sack for several games like what was it, two years ago, when the line didn't give up a sack for a long stretch? I think they will be somewhere in between and hopefully they stay healthy.
What kind of dog is it by the way Ray? I'm a big dog lover.
Alright guys, thanks for the questions this week! Have a good and safe weekend!
