Good morning gang! Time for another 60 minutes of fantasy chattage before we get sent to limbo. Second cup of coffee? In hand. Who, pray tell, is up first?
Who do you like more ROY...Morneau or Howie Kendrick? Need to trade one away.
Ranked back-to-back in value thus far, but I prefer Morneau going forward.
you buying or selling J Upton and Adam Jones?
More up on Dig Dug than J-Up.
need to keep two from J Charles, Larry Fitz and Greg Jennings?
Generally speaking, even with all the question marks in the RB ranks, you have to keep RB over WR. I'd let Fitz go.
Desperately in need of pitching currently....what's a fair asking price for the MelkMan?
Given where he's been in the hitting ranks, I'd ask for nothing less than a top 20 SP.
Hey AJ, which guy coming off the DL is set up for a better ROS. Norris or Paulino?
Assuming full recovery and no relapses, it's Felipe.
Youkilis or Reynolds ROS in 10-team w/ OPS?
I'd go with Reynolds.
Time to give up on Lynn?
Give up is not the right term. It's always about being open to trading for value. He's certainly one of the five guys in the top 20 SP right now I am least confident in going forward.
Just finished your book, and I must say that it exceeded all expectations. Great read. Quick question: Do you like a BJ Upton/Kinsler for Lincecum/Kipnis in a keeper H2H league?
I'll take the compliment... I'd rather stick with Ian and BJ, but of course it's a weekly league so if Timmy rebounds and you need SP, you can easily argue the other side.
Isn't Paulino out for the Year? I thought I read he was going to have elbow surgery...
Indeed you are correct. This is what happens when I take a weekend off... unexpected news sometimes falls through the cracks. So, um, Bud Norris ROS, definitely.
Andrus or Castro ROS?
Elvis for me.
Do we have any idea who will be the starting rb in Washington or for fantasy purposes should we just stay away from any 'skins rb?
Helu is tentatively the guy right now, but when dealing with Shanny, one never knows for sure. I think you always have to take his team's backfield with a grain of salt.
Cruz, Heyward, Choo and Allen Craig. Who is the odd man out to use for trade bait?
Never an easy question. After all, Heyward might net you the most in return but Cruz is the one I'd most want to rid myself of...
Who closes in Minnesota with Capps out?
Appears like it may well be Burton and not Perkins.
With Foster presumably off the board at no. 1, would you go Shady or Ray Ray? PPR league.
I'd lean to Rice. I don't think you can really go wrong with either and that's the most likely top 3.
Middlebrooks or Freeman ROS?
Confidently saying Middlebrooks now that Youk is out of the picture.
What are your expectations for Chase Utley ROS?
He says he feels good, which is important. I think there's a week or two of getting back into the mix slowly, and if he gets through that first 15-game window and can play 12 of them, then I'd expect the Utley of old minus the SB the rest of the way.
Who do you like better in this trade, Jimmy Rollins or Aramis Ramirez? Positional eligibility doesn't matter in this case, non-keeper.
Aramis for me.
Added Rizzo in my Keeper by dropping Kendrys... smart move??? Would be the Bench or CI spot.
Why not? Upside is tremendous and we know what Kendrys has given you this year. If Rizzo hits, you've got a stud for several years to come. If not, odds are, Kendrys will still be on wire.
League with Saves and Holds: who's more valuable right now? Gregerson, Perkins, or Rex Brothers?
I'd rank them: Perkins, Rex, Luke
Thoughts on Brandon Belt ROS? Are you a believer?
I am. I've seen enough to think his stats are only going to improve with regular PT.
d'Arnaud coming up any time soon?
Got hurt sliding into second base... haven't heard any update, but if he's OK, perhaps this "wakes up" the organization to bring him up. Similar thing happened to Harper.
Would you trade Trout for Cain?
If I needed SP help, yes.
Plouffe? is he for real?
Sure, the power is legit. Is he going to avoid turning into 2012 Adam Dunn, though? That I haven't decided yet, though I'm hoping not.
Dynasty League - who has more value at the momment: Lincicum or Bauer?
Unless he goes out and fans 12 and throws a 1-hit shutout in his debut, Bauer will never have more value than he does right now.
You mean 2011 Adam Dunn, right?
I mean the guy with 20+ HR and a .219 BA right now.
Cespedes Going to get going this year?
Doubt it. I've been talking about the feeling he's too brittle all season. He's certainly a fantasy starter when he's in the lineup - but can he play for a month without getting hurt?
This year I was one of 2 new "expansion" teams in a 12 team mixed dynasty league. Team is fairly competitive, but obviously not in the championship mix. When is an appropriate time to begin selling? I obviously need to start building for the future, but don't want to throw in the towel too early. Thanks AJ!
See where you are the standings and how much ground you're losing/gaining each week in each category. If you've reached a tipping point where there's little chance of catching anyone anywhere, you start to look to 2013.
I echo your comment about Bauer never having more value than right now. I traded Darvish in a keeper for Cain about 3 weeks into the season. Never could have happened starting in May.
Exactly. People always want the shiny new toys and will overpay for them right up until they see them in action. AND if Bauer goes out and lasts 2 innings and gives up 8 ER in his debut, some owners will immediately look to sell him.
You mentioned Lynn is 1 of 5 guys in the top 20 you're least confident about going forward. Who are the other 4?
I was ball-parking it, but other guys in that group are Price, CJ and Capuano.
What's your take on Dan Haren?
He's a WYSIWYG. Solid No. 3 fantasy SP with chance to get hot and improve.
So are you saying don't overpay to get Bauer, but don't jump ship if you own him if his debut is horrible?
Once again, Isaac, you've crystallized my point eloquently.
Football!! Have to make keeper decision soon, is Jacquizz overtaking Turner as the guy in Atlanta this year? Is someone else in the mix?
Not overtaking, but team will probably look to use Rodgers and Snelling a bit more than in the past.
Has Altuve reached the droppable point yet?
I wouldn't say droppable, but the hammy problem is certainly gumming up the works.
Who's the better 12th round keeper? Kenny Britt, Matt Schaub or James Starks?
I'd be more than happy with Schaub in Round 12.
Wow you lost all credibility picking Paulino or Norris ROS.
Victor. I am man enough to admit I hadn't heard the news on Paulino. I also stand by the original assessment which was: given full recovery from the original injury, he's better long-term.
Loved the book, AJ! Would you cut Hosmer for Rizzo in a keeper league?
Tough to completely give up on Hosmer. In a one-and-done, I'd take the chance. In a keeper, I'd probably stand firm.
What are your thoughts on Yu Darvish for the year?
Haven't changed. Good out of the gate and then slow steady decline. No way I keep him past ASB.
Victor / AJ - Flagpole 3:00
LOL. Haters gonna hate.
Could you elaborate on your concerns on Price? Just ERA too low relative to peripherals?
I think you simply have to judge pitchers going forward based on peripherals like K/BB and BAA and HR/9... stats like that. Wins and ERA are not nearly as reliable for future tracking. Int hat sense, he looks far worse than many of his quality peers.
Flip the script. What 2-3 pitchers outside the top 20 do you see moving into the top 20?
Excellent question. I'd say Weaver returns to top 20 (missed time cost him that spot) and how about Miley, Lohse and Blanton as sleeper picks to join him.
Same goes in football - people love the shiny, new rooks...so would you rather have T-Rich or Mathews?
Given the Tolbert move, I'd rather have Mathews. In some ways, he IS a shiny new toy.
What the heck is WYSIWYG (used in reverence to Dan Haren)?
Am I really that old? What you see is what you get... relatively standard acronym, I thought, but perhaps not.
KC seems to be easing Salvador Perez in, would you pick him up and drop Salty in a 14 team league???
As you'd expect with a backstop. I'd stick with Salty, but there are certainly catchers out there I'd be fine with losing: M.Montero, Ellis for example.
If you think Blanton is going to get to top 20 you're nuts
We do understand what the word "sleeper" means, right? But you know what... I'll still stand by the comment.
Rasmus, Rasmus, Rasmus!!!!
Colby will be fine.
That's the whistle, gang. We've got our 2pm video chat with Tristan coming up, and as always, @ajmass on Twitter. Check out the ESPN Fantasy Football Draft Kit we've got out as well... Until the next time, as always, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
