Chat with Andrew Feldman

Andrew Feldman
  (3:04 PM)

Hey everyone! Welcome to Day 3! 1,765 players remain and the cards are in the air

Matt (CO)

Any thoughts/insight on what's happening with HPT? (both founders announced their departure on Twitter yesterday)

Andrew Feldman
  (3:07 PM)

The fate of the HPT hasn't been determined just yet, but yes, a major shakeup to the lower buy-in tour that was thriving has occurred. It really is a shame how the whole thing progressed...

brad (boston)

Mr. Feldman, can you try to give us some twitter updates today from the following tables: Brasillia 12-T Chan, JC Tran, Cajelais 16-Shaun Deeb, Erick Lindgren, 40-Binger/Katachlov Amazon 400 - Shannon Shorr and Galfond. Thanks in advance!

Andrew Feldman
  (3:07 PM)

Sure, but Brasilia will be breaking relatively quickly today.

Person (DC)

Which former ME champs are left?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:10 PM)

Eastgate, Chan, Harrington, Yang, Seed and of course, Heinz.

Tony (Chicago)

I have to believe Antonio Esfandiari is about as relaxed at the table as he ever has been (taking down the "One Drop" will do that!) Do you think his chances at making a deep run are better considering he's kinda "freerolling?"

Andrew Feldman
  (3:11 PM)

He was extremely focused when I spoke to him yesterday. Sure, he's freerolling in a sense after his One Drop win, but he really just wants to follow that up with a deep main event finish. Could be incredible if he really starts to make a run this year.

Billy Madison (NYC)

How does it feel to live like a poker player for a few weeks without actually playing in Vegas?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:13 PM)

Haha. That's a great way to look at it. I'm probably more tired than the players...

Brian (Brighton)

After the summer that Selbst has had, how amazing would it be if Boeree, Ho and Selbst (all housemates) could cash and make a deep run. Nevermind the fact that the chipleader is a woman as well. How many girls will be in the final 27 in your eyes?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:15 PM)

That would be a great story. Pretty talented poker house regardless. I'll say 2 women in the final 27. We haven't had a really really really deep finish from a woman in a couple years, so I'll say this is the year

Dave (NJ)

Over/under: 5 years until we get a repeat November Niner?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:15 PM)

Under. Ben Lamb has chips today...

Joe P. (Las Vegas, NV)

Have you heard anything lately about online poker in Nevada and when it's supposed to start? I know MGM/Mirage already had their license approved for it. Also, will only Nevada residents be allowed to play on these sites?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:16 PM)

As of now, yes only Nevada and it's expected to be available late this year or very early next year.

Nolan (Hartford)

ESPN start their live coverage yet?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:16 PM)

We've started taping. No live coverage this year until the final table.

matt (ny)

andrew - any reason you can think of why no A-List celebrities/athletes didn't play in the One Drop? All of the big actors (maguire/damon/affleck) haven't played in the Main Event in a few years either...

Andrew Feldman
  (3:17 PM)

It's still $1 million...and most of them know they are really dead money. Not surprising at all that they didn't play. I am more surprised that more celebrities didn't play the main event. Seems like we lost a few familiar faces this year.

Sean (Boston)

Has there been any follow up from the tournament director about the "all in" controversy where the player mucked his hand face up and jokingly said "all in"?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:18 PM)

Nothing new, but anything involving that situation would be held in private. Especially since it's a cash game...

Chad (Canada)

Do they expect to break the cash bubble today or tomorrow? Can you give us the tone of the chatter in the hallways as the players all finally join in the same field?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:19 PM)

They'll break the bubble during the first level tomorrow. The room is eerily quiet right now for being filled with 1K players...

Brad (boston)

Feature table today? Has to be lamb and selbst seated next to each other right? Brasillia 79

Andrew Feldman
  (3:20 PM)

They are actually in the Amazon Room at a feature table. Selbst is on Lamb's left...so...one of them will have 500K and one of them should be out relatively soon. Crazy table draw. Can't imagine it'll be very long until we see a seven-bet with K-3 against Q-6.

JJ (Iowa)

I see that Selbst and Lamb are at the secondary feature table. Who's at the featured table??

Andrew Feldman
  (3:26 PM)

Sorry for the delayed response on this one, Pius Heinz just went out.

Andrew Feldman
  (3:27 PM)

Daniel Negreanu is at the feature table

Timmy (Teetville)

Which of last years Nov 9 will make it the furthest in your opinion?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:28 PM)

I would've said Ben if he didn't have Vanessa at his table today... so I'm actually going to go with Eoghan O'Dea.

Tom (Pasadena)

Is Vanessa Rousso still in the field?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:28 PM)

Out on Day 1B

Gerard (Georgia)

Where were ray romano, brad garret, cheadle, lubarsky, that rock group lead singer, etc all didnt show up? Weird to see a bunch of big names disappearing.

Andrew Feldman
  (3:29 PM)

Romano played, as did Kevin Pollak who is still in. Not many more beyond that. Quiet year...Brad Garret was actually at the WSOP on Friday, but didn't play in the main. Not sure why.

Andrew Feldman
  (3:30 PM)

I'm glad I took Jason Somerville in my fake last longer on the Poker Edge. Up to 550K now and the chip lead in the tournament.

Jamie (Newark, DE)

Your odds are much better now...predict a winner!

Andrew Feldman
  (3:32 PM)

Yes, picking the champion out of 1,700 players should be easy. I'll pick tomorrow...still way too early. It's tough enough picking when only 9 players are left.

Mike (NY)

Based on the turnout for all the events would you say that the WSOP has had a succesful year or do you think it was disappointing in any way?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:34 PM)

I think it was a successful year given the climate. Attendance was down only one or two percent which is really not bad at all considering so much of the player base left after the 2011 WSOP. The turnout for the main event was great and really, I think everyone who measures poker based on the health of the WSOP should be confident things are doing just fine.

Al (Boston)

You ever going to try and play one of these things? (I understand the ME can only happen if you are staked), but what about trying to Satellite into it, or one of the smaller ones?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:34 PM)

I'd love to and I'm sure it'll happen eventually...

Chris (Ocala, FL)

How many more years can the poker economy keep giving away 10% in rake? It runs dry eventually, right? $22 million or so just for the WSOP this year alone.

Andrew Feldman
  (3:37 PM)

I think that unless there's a mass boycott, it will continue to happen. I think the poker economy can continue to do it for a very long time. Think about it this way, the players give X% to the WSOP who continues to run the event. The Event continues to get more exposure and more publicity and as a result, brings in new players. It's basically a cycle that needs to happen. Maybe not to the tune of 10%, but still...

Aaron (Texas)

Can you help get a WSOP fantasy poker game on ESPN next year?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:37 PM)

Not going to happen...we had one a couple years ago, but I don't think it's coming back anytime soon.

Andrew Feldman
  (3:38 PM)

Down another world champion, Eastgate has been eliminated

chris (pleasanton, ca)

Does the One Shot success diminish the Main Event in any way, or does it help?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:41 PM)

I don't think so. I think One Drop created a great buzz at the right time, but the focus is, and always will be, on the main event.

Tony (Chicago)

Andrew, I've been somewhat surprised that the numbers haven't dropped noticeably at the WSOP in general and the Main Event specifically since Black Friday. Clearly there were hundreds (if not thousands) of people who qualified via online satellites. How, in your opinion and experience, are those slots now being filled?

Andrew Feldman
  (3:45 PM)

Those online satellites are now live satellites are the Rio. The WSOP did a great job in getting players in and have filled the void in that fashion.

Andrew Feldman
  (3:46 PM)

Thanks for all the questions today everyone! Speak to you all tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET
