Who do you think will be the Best Texas College Football Player in 2012?
Sorry I'm late. Traffic was a mess. I think the best player in college football this year will be Matt Barkley. There are a ton of great players out there and a ton of great teams but the first name that came to mind is the best QB on the best team and that's Barkley. Maybe with that mindset, I should be a Heisman voter.
Hey Sean, got two for you. Where does Donald Hawkins fit in the pecking order of top protectors in the league? Also, if you had to choose one current player on the roster for a scramble from Offense, and one from Defense who would be your respective choices? Random, yes but it is Friday!
1. I would have to wait until they at least play Oklahoma before we can can project anything towards the NFL. He has the body, the strength and the attitude. He just has to win a lot on this level of football. If he does that, then he is going to have a great opportunity to play in the NFL.2. I've heard McCoy can play so I'll take him on offense and I'll take Vaccaro on defense because I just like being around him. I can carry him if he can't play.
Why are UT fans so concerned with A&M finally leaving? I hear more from longhorn fans about the move than I do Aggies.
Look, Longhorn fans enjoyed that rivalry just like the Aggies and people around the state of Texas did. Most people, me included, don't get it from a football and winning perspective. I didn't go to either school so I just liked seeing the rivalry now that I live in the state and in Austin. If A&M goes there and wins, then it works. If they go to the SEC and are average, then I would question the move too.
It's summer, so I'm naturally bored with the deprivation of college football. I've managed to stay entertained with watching a few replays of Texas games from this past year. Watching them, I can't help but notice, Teas had they're best games with Case McCoy in as the majority QB. He had the better statistical year and threw less picks. I see that Ash has the better upside, but can't coaches work on Case's arm strength? He seems to just have the intangibles to win.
Case McCoy looks good right now. He has put some weight on that frame. I do think the coaching staffs looks at the QB's being close in play and they'll eventually announce that they are going with the guy with the most upside. I do see a ton of intangibles with McCoy but if I was choosing based on what I've seen, I would probably go with Ash right now too.
Is the ESPN recruiting panel overreacting a little dropping Swoopes all the way down to #100 and an athlete?
I'm not into recruiting as much as the guys that cover it every single day but I do know by looking at the history that movement happens in large part during the summer after the junior year. People need to stop owrrying about that part of the ranking. Remember the skills and pressure he puts on a defense cannot be seen in 7 on 7.
i mean do u see my horns as a big 12 contender this year
While I have picked the Longhorns to go 9 - 3, I have a real hard time picking them to win the Big 12. They are there though. If I have to say that Oklahoma, West Virginia and Texas are the the leaders of the group, then Texas is sligthtly under those three until I see, what I hope is, a lot more of David Ash.
Right now David Ash is the #1 QB, but how much playing time will Case McCoy get? Will they have to go back to a 2-QB system?
I don't know how much playing time he will get. David Ash needs all of the snaps he can get if they want him to be as good as he can be as a junior and senior. He does not need to give up time, snaps or opportunities to give up gaining confidence. David Ash should play every snap he can.
thoughts on which fish will impact the team most? i'm betting on malcom brown and daje...
I like Malcom Brown, Daje Johnson but I will also put Cayleb Jones on that list with Goodwin being in London.
Give me one team outside the top five major conferences that has a legitimate shot as a national title contender.
There's not one but the default is Notre Dame but no...
The RRR has been showcased on both websites recently. Which Sooner did you respect or enjoy watching the most? What Sooner play/player still gets under your skin and is hard to forget?
I loved Roy Williams. He's a bay area kid from my hood back in the Oakland area. He was a player and lead that Oklahoma defense. I loved him as a player but Torrance Marshall got under my skin a lot. He played with the attitude that you are supposed to play with.
Why did Jcovan Brown turn pro?
I have no earthly idea save for the fact that he needed to start making money to take care of his obligations. The fact is also that he was not going to raise his stock a considerable amount by coming back. It would have been good for Texas but a year of money earning lost for him.
Was Earl Campbell the best college running back of all time?
That's a loaded question. I don't know if he was the best as much as he might be my favorite. I've never been a fan of comparing eras and I won't try here.
What would be you're bowl projection for UT this year?
I could see the Longhorns being in the Cottom Bowl but also having an outside shot at landing a BCS game but Ash would have to be great and they would have to stay healthy at OL and DE.
Would you be surprised at all if we get half way through the season and figure out that JGray is just clearly the best player in the backfield? Brown and Bergeron would still have important roles of course
Way too early to tell. Slow down. I love Gray but he has to earn his stripes. Brown and Bergeron are very talented and the Longhorns will need all three. See 2011.
Should Texas fans be concerned with Swoopes's drop? Is he still the QB of the future, the next VY? Obviously the coaches over in Austin see something in him, hopefully he develops that passing game...
I've never called him the next VY. VY was playing 5A against the Reggie Mc's of the world. Don't sweat it. He is crazy talented and will develope a lot and should redshirt once he gets to Texas.
What can we realisticly expect for the Horns this season?
I still am seeing 9 - 3 to 10 - 2 if things go really well.
Who was the better option quarterback, Vince Young or a healthy Jamelle Holieway?
That's a tough one but since VY is one of my favorite players ever, I'll take VY.
Thanks for the question, I'll be here on time next week.
