Detroit Lions DE Cliff Avril will be here at 1:45 p.m. ET to take your questions!

Buzzmaster
  (1:44 PM)

We've got Cliff!

Derrick (Detroit)

Are there any games you circle on the schedule?

Cliff Avril
  (1:46 PM)

All of the divisional opponents. Gotta ball out against those guys.

Jeff (RI)

The Lions sort of snuck up on people last year, but not this year....how will you get your edge this season?

Cliff Avril
  (1:46 PM)

I don't think we snuck up on anybody. I think the fact that we have most of our starters coming back, we're going to be prepared more as a team.

Dave (KY)

Your a great speed rusher but to be a great DE you need to have an inside move to go with it. Have you been working on a move so you don't just use the speed rush around the end because it seems like to stop that all the other team has to do is chip with their RB.

Cliff Avril
  (1:47 PM)

The reason the speed rush works is because I have counter rushes.

Kevin (DC)

How big of a rivalry games are those games within the division?

Cliff Avril
  (1:48 PM)

They're huge. You face them twice a year so you know what you're going to get from them. Now it's just all about playing ball and the better team will win that day.

David (Seattle)

How do you focus back on football following the disappointment of not getitng your long term contract finalized?

Cliff Avril
  (1:48 PM)

I know it's business, so it is what it is. I just have to go out and play ball like every other year. I've had to go out and prove myself every other year in the league. So not much has changed.

Don (Chicago, IL)

Two questions, Who has been the toughest QB to sack during your NFL career? And who was you favorite player/players as a youngster?

Cliff Avril
  (1:49 PM)

The hardest QB would have been Cam Newton. He's such an athlete at that position. You can think you've got him down but somehow he can get one hand down on the ground and pop back up.

Steve (Dallas)

What kind of goals do you set for yoursefl prior to the start of the season?

Cliff Avril
  (1:50 PM)

I usually keep those to myself, but I definitely try to set goals that are going to be hard to obtain, but achievable.

Eric (Detroit)

How much are you paying attention to the offseason moves by the team and around the league?

Cliff Avril
  (1:50 PM)

I don't. I leave that for the people upstairs. I can only worry about the guys that are going to be there when they get there. I can't worry about the offseason moves.

Mark (Michigan)

Hi Cliff:Love your work, hope you retire a Lion. Well the Lions will not be sneaking up on anyone this season, but sure would love to see a sweep of the Bears more than anything. They pretty much have already been crowned by many experts?

Cliff Avril
  (1:51 PM)

I always look forward to playing the Bears. But I would like to sweep everybody in the division.

David (Detroit)

How closely do you follow the draft?

Cliff Avril
  (1:51 PM)

I do not follow the draft, because at the end of the day, every guy they bring in has to prove themselves like the rest of us.

keith (cleveland)

Given the high quality of your starting d-line, are you expected to pressure the QB more with just the 4 d-lineman and drop more in coverage?

Cliff Avril
  (1:52 PM)

We didn't blitz much last year so I think our defense is based off our DL. That's our goal is to get after the QB like we're supposed to.

Zac (West Virginia)

Will you remain a Detroit Lion after this season?

Cliff Avril
  (1:53 PM)

It's still a possibility. I'm not sure. I'm not really worried about that right now. I just have to worry about us winning the Super Bowl this year. That will probably keep me around longer.

Justin (ky)

who is the player or players that will stand out this season for the Lions

Cliff Avril
  (1:53 PM)

Yes. Suh I think will bounce back for sure. And Nick Fairley.

Derek

Favorite offseason activity?

Cliff Avril
  (1:54 PM)

Favorite offseason activity is being able to spend time with my son.

phill (pa)

do you look forward going into training and working against a rookie like riely reif and seeing if you get him up to speed onwhat the nfl level de brings to the table.

Cliff Avril
  (1:55 PM)

Yeah. Training camp is a time for everybody to show what they got. To bring the rookies out there, it will show them the speed of the game and they will adapt as quickly as possible.

Carl (Denver)

Welcome to th eNFL moment?

Cliff Avril
  (1:55 PM)

No. I'm a guy who keeps to myself. The veterans didn't really mess with me because I was so quiet. That's how I stayed under the radar.

David (St. Louis)

Best road city?

Cliff Avril
  (1:56 PM)

My favorite road city that I've been to is Chicago. It's such a cool city, lots of things to eat. But I don't really have a lot of time to do anything.

Don (South Bend)

How do you really feel about playing on Thanksgiving every year, wouldn't you like to just back and relax on turkey day?

Cliff Avril
  (1:57 PM)

No. It's like another bye week. You get four days off after that. I enjoy it.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

What is the Hardest NFL Team that you have faced in your NFL Career?

Cliff Avril
  (1:57 PM)

The Saints are probably one of the better teams that we've faced last year.

Cliff Avril
  (1:58 PM)

Thanks for chatting with me!
