Chat with Sean Adams

Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)

Dear SeanWhat Longhorns were big in this year's draft?

Sean Adams
  (12:25 PM)

It depends on what your definition of big is. Robinson, Randall and Acho all were drafted. I think anytime to get drafted to the NFL or even sign a free-agent contract, that's huge. It means that they got a shot.

ronald (oklahoma)

is jake raulerson going to grow into an offensive lineman or could he turn into a defensive end or tight end / fullback.

Sean Adams
  (12:29 PM)

People have talked about him moving to the defensive side of the ball. The good thing about him is to have options and he has them. I still think he ends up on the offensive line.

kingsley (pilot point)

what will come first for UT football....heisman trophy or a national title?

Sean Adams
  (12:32 PM)

I say National Title even though that is just as hard to come by. Texas is so deep that the depth plays. The Heisman Trophy is usually won by a guy with huge numbers and a huge profile. Ingram won it at Alabama and some thought he wasn't even the best kid on his team. It could happen but I say National Title comes first.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

How good will the Texas Longhorns be in College Football in 2012?

Sean Adams
  (12:35 PM)

I think very good and have predicted 9 wins. 2013 and 2014 have the chance to be really good.

Spence (Dallas)

Hey whats going on with you?? What time slot are you moving too? I only listened @ 1pm because of you... Now i gotta re-adjust my schedule. Good luck my brotha on your new time slot. Guess I can ask a real question. Who do you see currently comitted to Texas decommiting or any other University decommiting for Texas before signing day if any?

Sean Adams
  (12:40 PM)

I am moving to 3 - 7 with Erin Hogan. We are excited for the change and I'm just ready for football.

Jose Cuervo (California )

What are the chances that both Jeffcoat and Okafor leave after this season? If that were to happen, I think it would be an absolute disaster for 2013.

Sean Adams
  (12:43 PM)

It all depends on how they play but they are both skilled enough to be major players in the draft in 2013. Texas usually has a better shot than most schools to keep kids around for their senior year so you can't write them off. I do agree with you though that it would be a tough situation from a replacement persepctive to replace them. Texas has recruited well and will have real quality back-ups worked in by the end of 2012.

Jose Cuervo (California )

Are the horns being unwise and placing too much trust in Tyrone Swoopes? Shouldn't we go after a second qb?

Sean Adams
  (12:50 PM)

I don't know if unwise is the right word. Most schools grab a QB every year. Texas got a good one in Conner Brewer that is going to be a good QB. They will take one in 2014 so I think they will be okay.

Jose Cuervo (California )

Which of the three presumed starting WRs (Goodwin, Shipley, Davis) most likely gets replaced by a freshman? Who would be the WR that replaces him?

Sean Adams
  (12:52 PM)

Goodwin only because he will be busy jumping for the red, white and blue. I have no idea which young one will replace. We are hearing good things about all of the young WR's.

Chris (Houston)

Rank your top 3 RB, DE, and DB units in the country

Sean Adams
  (12:55 PM)

Off the top of my head... RB - Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin. DE - LSU, Texas and Florida St. DB - Texas, LSU and Florida St. That made me think a lot.

Adam (Ann Arbor)

Hey Sean we're getting close! Quick question on Kendall Sanders- I really feel like he's going to be the diamond in the rough of this recruiting class (even for a 4 star) but is it set in stone that he will be WR for sure. I know people knock our depth there, but when you take Shipley, Williams, Goodwin when back and Monroe who will be out there now it doesn't look like a ton of room. We may be playing a frosh at nickel so why not give him a look there? Also, who have you seen/heard who has made the biggest strides in the weight room this Summer? Thanks!

Sean Adams
  (1:00 PM)

4-star kids are some of the best football players in the country. Don't play that short. I'm a big fan of Sanders as well. I have seen McCoy, Shipley and some of the linemen and all of their bodies look different. Bennie Wylie is paying off for sure.

Dave (MD)

Various message boards have been saying the Overstreet is looking pretty good. Any truth to those rumors? What are the chances we see Overstreeet at QB this year (either situational like in the wildcat or the more unlikely starter)?

Sean Adams
  (1:06 PM)

Most have heard those same things. I have a hard time thinking Overstreet gets some serious run. David Ash is better and will be better but needs every single rep he can get this year to continue to grow and build. Taking Ash off the field in the red-zone could be really detrimental to his overall growth.

Ross (NY)

Is there a chance Ricky Seals-Jones commits back to Texas?

Sean Adams
  (1:07 PM)

There is always a chance as long as Texas is involved and he has not signed yet. Texas is a closer and we'll see if they can close.

Tony (Richmond, CA)

Do the recent commitments to USC in the secondary improve the Horns chances of landing Cole Luke?

Sean Adams
  (1:08 PM)

They have to help although Luke would still be a tough one to see happening.

Aubrey (Houston)

Who would be best for the WildHorn package? Who would be the most fun? I think Gray ends up as the best, but the speed with Daje and Monroe options on the same play would have to terrify a defense right?

Sean Adams
  (1:09 PM)

Call me crazy, I like RB's at the WildHorn and still think Gray would be great at it.

Keith (Ohio)

Some people in the north wonder if a coaching change would help bring the team back into National title contention--what do you think?

Sean Adams
  (1:10 PM)

At Texas? They hadn't won one in 35 years before they won the NC in 2005. Re-visit this conversation in 2013 and your opinion may change.

Aubrey (Houston)

Why aren't people more concerned with the inexperience at LB? There is a lot of talent, and Diaz is a great coach, but I think the experience from Keenan and Acho won't be as easily replaced as people seem to be assuming.

Sean Adams
  (1:12 PM)

I'm concerned but I'm a huge fan of Hicks and Cobbs was in the 4 man rotation last year before he got hurt. Edmund is the wildcard in this deal and reports do mean much until you see it between the chalk. It's okay to be concerned about the LB position.

Keith (Ohio)

Do you think Colt McCoy has what it takes to be a starting NFL QB?

Sean Adams
  (1:13 PM)

I do but it has to be in the right system.

Tony (Richmond, CA)

Don't forget South Carolina with Clowney and Taylor at the DE spot?

Sean Adams
  (1:13 PM)

Yep, that's a school that I left off. They are really good at DE.

Aubrey (Houston)

Sure would be fun to have Daje as the WildHorn QB, right? A defense might go crazy defending the option of his speed handing off to Monroe

Sean Adams
  (1:14 PM)

True that but I want to see him in live football games first.

Jesse (Alvin)

Is this Davis Ash last year to get it right?

Sean Adams
  (1:15 PM)

I think this is his best shot because he will be given a long rope. I think everyone will be pleasantly shocked by the start of the season for David Ash.

Greg (San Antonio)

Just saw a tweet that said Hoza Scott showed up a the 7 vs 7 with an Aggie hat on. Any chance we can sway him?

Sean Adams
  (1:16 PM)

You cannot worry about clothing. There were pictures everywhere with Chance Mock wearing Aggie gear before he signed to Texas.

Derrin (Plano, TX)

Will TCU start landing more of the top recruits in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that would normally sign with Texas and Oklahoma now that the Horns are in a major local conference if they start winning big?

Sean Adams
  (1:19 PM)

I think they will do better but they have to still sway kids from Austin and DKR and the facilities to Ft. Worth and TCU. Overall I think Texas and Oklahoma will always, in general, recruit better than TCU.

dennis (Corsicana) [via mobile]

Have Johnathan Gray been doing good and is he the starting running back

Sean Adams
  (1:19 PM)

I don't think he can be or even be part of the conversation. He is a great talent but Bergeron and Brown are great talents as well.

Sean Adams
  (1:20 PM)

Thanks for all of the great questions, have to get ready for the last Adams Theory.
