With the news that Allmendinger apparently took one Adderal, does that at all help his cause for securing a decent Cup ride in the future, or is his Cup career still basically over?
I hope his career isn't over, but I don't know that this changing things one way of the other.

Not likely that Jeff can make the top 10, but he has an excellent chance now to earn a wildcard. If he wins at The Glen, which is possible, he's almost assured a spot.
Hi Terry, does the fact that AJ wasn't doing Meth like Mayfield allegedly did increase his chances of actually getting back to the cup series? I feel like he blew his best chance this year in spectacular fashion, but I'm relieved he wasn't doing anything illegal-- at least in the eyes of the government.
Whatever he took, he still had to go through the rehab process. Frankly, the fact that he took a pill from a friend, not knowing for sure what it was, was really a dumb thing to do, if that's really what happened.
Even without Dodge, could we see Kurt Busch in a Furniture Row car in 2013?

If he wins he could, but I doubt it. It's much more important just to win the race and be the first driver with four victories this season.

I don't see one coming into the sport in the next two or three years, but down the road, who knows. Honda could jump in at some point. Maybe even Hyundai.

I think Roger wants to give it some time and see what Sam does. But if Joey is available, he might have to jump on it.
Hi Terry! Does success at Sonoma automatically translate to success at The Glen? Should we expect the same strength from Clint, Kurt, Smoke, Jimmie, etc? Who's your top 5 this weekend??
No, the two courses are very different. The Glen is a much faster than Sonoma and requires more horsepower. But some guys are good at both tracks. My top 5 for Sunday are Ambrose, Smoke, Gordon, Kyle and Brad K.
Some people think Gordon lucked into his win Sunday, but the fact remains that drivers have to get themselves into position to win. Gordon drove from 27th to 5th in under 90 laps. Sure, he got lucky with the rain and the fluke incident, but he still drove himself to the front before that. Your thoughts?
I agree. And we was due some good fortune with all the bad luck he's had this year.
TB - your opinion on the tragedy after the race? Will we see lawsuits claiming NASCAR was negligent for the fan's safety?
Probably because we see lawsuits for everything, but I think it's unfair. What else could they do? Fans were warned. It's very sad, but sometimes people have to use some common sense and take cover when they see lightning approaching.
Am I the only one that doesn't buy what AJ is selling? All the having to check his supliment talk that came out of his camp. First thing that I would have thought about was that random pill and what was in it. The story seems like it was made up.
You're not the only one Foster. I really like AJ and I think he's a very responsible and likable young man. But in more than three decades as a sports writer, I have heard it all on positive drug tests and I take it all with a grain of salt.
i see that dodge sales were up 13% here's betting that dodge leaving nascar has little or no effect on future sales there by breaking the old saying win on sunday sell on monday they do not race real cars anyway... just thinking
I disagree. I think this is a bad decision by Fiat. It's expensive to race in NASCAR, but it's worth the cost for the enormous exposure it brings.

If forced to pick one, I would say Shane Wilson, even though Harvick has a fairly secure spot in the Chase.

Yes, I think he will, but it's no guarantee. And don't count out Newman or Joey and even Edwards just yet. It's going to be fun to see what happens with the wild card race in these five races before the Chase.
Hi Terry! If Kyle misses the Chase, what changes do you see being made to his team? I think it would be highly disappointing for a driver of his caliper and experience to miss the Chase at this point in his career, and I point directly at Dave Rogers and JGR as the culprits.
It would be disappointing, but I don't know if changes are coming. They've had some really bad luck with engine failures, and Kyle also has made some over-driving mistakes this year.
Also maybe we need to re think racing at pocono 2 times a year? I think id like to see a race at darlington twice
I'm all for having only one race at Pocono, but not because of lightning.
Terry, The Army sponsors Newman for 12 races this year. That's a lot easier to acquire than a full season (like Joey has to at JGR). What are the chances Newman returns to SHR next year??????
I'd say 50/50 at this point. He might be in line for the 31 car ar RCR.

Wouldn't you be? Those guys are peaking at the right time, and everyone knows how good they are at the Chase tracks.
Hi Terry! Do you think that if a track like Pocono (which traditionally has made for pretty boring races) is going to get two races in the season, they should be forced to put in lights so that races can run into the night?
No, because they run in the summer months when it daylight until pretty late.

It's not what it used to be, but fans are spoiled in NASCAR. It's way better than almost any other sport. And frankly, I think the whole getting autographs things is overrated.
Hi Terry! If the last race at Homestead came to a tie like last year and both drivers had the same number of wins, what would be the tiebreaker?
The driver who had the most second-place finishes or third and on down the line.
Will the 88 be the point leaders after WG?
Maybe, because the two guys behind him _ Kenseth and Biff, aren't great road racers either. But JJ is only 8 points back. If he wins and those three guys have a bad day, he could go to the top.
Agreed - my wife and I have both thoroughly stated that we never want to be people who get Kyle's autograph as he is walking by and not caring. We would rather go to an event and make it worth it.

Terry, can you foresee any way that NASCAR finds a way to weaken the stranglehold that the major teams have on the top spots? Can you see a future in the one car teams again?
Not gonna happen Joe. The truth is no matter what rules you make, the big-money teams find a way to spend that money and win. That's always been true in auto racing.
I now realize that NASCAR shouldn't give bonus points to the points leader before the chase because all it would do is have the top 10 points race instead of going for wins like they should be doing now.
I disagree. A win still gets you those bonus points whether you lead the standings or not. But I think the points leader deserves a reward for the regular season.
Sorry for what happend in Pocono and I know people will blame the track, but I believe people should be responsible for themselves. I learned my lesson on the golf course. I had a good score going and kept going. Came close to dying that day.
A lesson learned. I have stupidly continued to play a round in a storm, also. Won't do that again.
I think the regular season points leader should be able to pick pit stalls first for the chase races. Like they use to with the prior year champion.
I think that's too big an advantage for all 10 races. Qualifying is too meaningless as it is. That would make it more meaningless for that team.

Are things "good" between IndyCar and TMS for next year? They need that race, and Pocono or MIS would be cool to see, too. I hope the Fontana race this year has fans in the seats.
Things are not good between TMS and IndyCar. I would love to see Indycar run more high-speed ovals, but they are headed in the other direction and I think it's a big mistake. But they don't want to race big speedways when they can't fill seats. I hope Fonatana has a decent crowd, but I doubt it. And I really don't get it. It's far better racing on that type of track than you see in NASCAR.

I'm against that. Only reward the leader. He deserves more than a 1-point bonus over the guy who finishesd second, but not a 9-point bonus over the guy who finishes 10th.
Nascar should make the rule that all 12 cars in the chase must have a win when the chase starts. If you are 9 in points and no wins (maybe next year buddy)
Interesting thought, but what if you lead the points and don't have a win? I would be more inclined to do it the other way. If you win a race and finish in the top 20, you get in the Chase, even if that means 15 cars make it in.

At this point, I think it's less than 50/50.
Winning races should get the most attention and the most reward, so in give the regular season points leader 1 extra point at the beginning of the chase so at least that driver is ahead of the rest of the chasers who have the same amount of wins.
That's better than the way they do it, but I would be inclined to give him at least 4 or 5 points, which is what you get for winning a race.

I do like it. Do something to make qualifying more meaningful. But NASCAR is against this because they say the big-money teams would spend way too much on qualifying set-ups.
Hey Terry, You mentioned that Newman could be a candidate for the #31 ride. Doesn't Jeff have one more year on his contract???? After that RCR could move Dillon up and into the ride since he is staying in Nationwide next year.
It could happen that way, but Childress seems to hint earlier this year that the 31 situation is up in the air.

Some people think they are doing a one-year hiatus until the can sign a big team and develop an engine program. I think that's unlikely.

I think they need to go back to letting teams test at NASCAR tracks. They changed to to try to save money, but it hasn't really worked. And the tracks need the teams and drivers there to help promote their upcoming events.
Does CK and the 48 camp keep a little secrets to themselves or do they share 100 percent to its teamates?
All these guys say they share everything, but I don't buy it. I think Chad keeps a little something in his back pocket when he really needs it.
What are your thoughts on IndyCar expanding to 19 races next season? I know the teams don't like the added expense, but part of the reasoning is greater sponsorship exposure, so wouldn't that help cover some of that expense?
I think they should have 20 races. Cup has way too many at 36, but I thnk 20 is a reasonable number for IndyCar.
With Jack Roush announcing that Penske will use Roush Yates Ford engines will 2013 Penske become another RFR satelite team like RPM and Woods Bros?
No, Penske has way more money and more quality employees than those teams, even without its own engine program.
Iowa really needs a Cup race or perhaps even two...any chance we see one there in the next 5 years?
Layne, I'm starting to agree with you. I wasn't in favor of Iowa getting a Cup date because of it location in a small market. But the fans there have proven they support the track. And the racing is excellent there. They had over 50,000 last weekend. Now more than ever, NASCAR needs to go where the people support the facility and the racing is competitive.
