Good afternoon everyone...just got off four hours of Sirius XM and ready to chat...so let's get his partaaayyyy started!
will Michael McDowell be a start and park?Could you u pick a cheap driver that wont start and park? thanks Moonshiner!
Trevor Bayne is 13.1 and won't be a start and park...Sam Hornish, Jr. 14.0..Regan Smith 15.8...those are the best three I can give you Harold..
Mark: Don?t you think that JGR is going to be very conservative with Hamlin?s engine setup through Richmond? Denny has: a 40 point lead with 2 victories over 11th place Kasey Kahne also with 2 victories; a 43 point lead over 12th place Edwards with 0 wins; and, a 49 point lead over 13th place Newman with 1 victory. Don?t you think the 11 camp is getting a little nervous since the loss of another engine and another win by Kahne, Bush or Newman could put their Chase hopes in a real danger?
They might detune a little bit..and they might have a little nervousness...but this is a race and a track they could put some distance on those guys as well. My opinion if you play scared bigger problems crop up.
Who do you think will win the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Montreal & the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan?
If he finishes Montreal maybe Jacques Villeneuve..if he doesn't how about fellow Canadian Ron Fellows...at Michigan I'm thinking Matt Kenseth or Jimmie Johnson.
A little off-topic but how do the normal "Start and Park" guys run? Do they race until they run into an "issue" with the car then take it to the garage or do some teams just run a certain number of laps regardless before parking it?
Hey Zach this is all about everything NASCAR so no problem answering the question. Most start and parks have an engine deal where they are told how many laps they can run on a given weekend so they save on rebuilds etc...Then, they run a few laps and have a ready answer for NASCAR as to what put them out...everybody just winks and goes on their merry way...sometimes a team will not put any oil in a rear gear and drive until they burn it up..fairly cheap piece and it lets them give a legit answer for DNF...Vibration and electrical problem are the two most used and that can mean a lot of different things.
Will Parker Klingerman Practice & Qualify the #22 Shell/Penzoil Dodge for Sam Hornish Jr. at New Hampshire while Hornish Jr is in Kentucky?
Not sure yet...I bet they'll see how this weekend works with Kligerman and Hornish before they decide on New Hampshire.
Mark - how do you foresee Hornish's schedule (staying in Montreal until Sunday) affecting his performance this week? Thanks for your insight.
It could certainly make a difference Jim...but Michigan is a good place to jump in and race cold turkey..Yes, it does have a lot of speed..but Hornish can take a few laps to feel things out without losing too much ground and will have time to make up anything he loses..
Does 48,14,2,9,22 sound good? Also, any problems with tires you think this week? I believe it was Michigan that brought in left-side tires last time? Thanks!
That's not a bad team Jason, but Keselowski did not have a stellar run in June..I like him for a top-10...but I would make a trade for Kyle Busch, who's heating up and will push his car to the front. Yes, the day before the race they brought in different left sides to help with blistering problem. That was crazy, but everyone got through it okay and there wasn't any tire trouble. They have a new tire everyone tested a few weeks ago and gave a thumbs up.
Kicking myself for ditching Sam Hornish at Watkins Glen, but for Michigan, him starting in back due to the driver change is a dealbreaker right?
You and me both on the Hornish deal Dan..I traded him for Vickers who finished dead last and there was only a 38 point differential between the two..Ugh!...Hornish could be a decent pick at Michigan, but lack of practice could be an issue. Trevror Bayne might be an option to go low and get someone who should be top-20 or up to 15th..Casey Mears has turned into steady 15th to 18th kind of deal too.
Quick pitstop...I'll be right back.
sorry about that..was on air four hours...need I say more?...lol
How does my top 10 compare to your yours? 14-88-17-16-48-18-15-24-99-2? I know that means that 11-27-39-5-56 get left out, but any of them could be #6 thru 10.
Well speaking of my top-10...how about my pre-race top-30..here you go...1.Jimmie Johnson2.Matt Kenseth3.Greg Biffle4.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.5.Tony Stewart6.Jeff Gordon7.Kyle Busch8.Brad Keselowski9.Clint Bowyer10.Martin Truex, Jr.11.Marcos Ambrose12.Carl Edwards13.Kasey Kahne14.Denny Hamlin15.Mark Martin16.Ryan Newman17.Kevin Harvick18.Joey Logano19.Regan Smith20.Sam Hornish, Jr.21.Paul Menard22.Juan Pablo Montoya23.Jamie McMurray24.Trevor Bayne25.Aric Almirola26.Jeff Burton27.Casey Mears28.Kurt Busch29.Bobby Labonte30.Landon Cassill
Hope you are having a good day guru!....22 not practicing or qualifying this week scares me to death so im thinking of dumping him and going with 48, 88, 18, 24 and 78....your thoughts buddy?
I like the buzz around the 78 right now...New crew chief Todd Berrier has made a big difference..and Smith was 13th a year ago if memory serves me right..I might keep an eye out of a potential trade for the 24..but Gordon is probably a lock top-10.
Hi Mark. Where will jr. finish this week? What do you think of this line up: 88,18,99,5,& 22? Thanks.
Not bad Jill..should score some decent points..not sure the most points but a good chunk...I might like Ambrose a tick better than Edwards and Regan Smith might be the safer floor pick this week.
I'm second in points in The Jayski Junkie Fantasy league.I was wondering where you rank, and if you follow the conversaitions we have there throughout the week?We seem to have a pretty faithful following, and offer each other our support.
Really cool deal Larry...just checked it out...I'm 164 out of 768 in my league...I need to get into the fan forum some time...to meet some of the faithful peeps in my league..Any idea what would be the best thing to do?
Mark, Your take on all 4 Hendrick cars and the 22. I can pull this off for 99.9. Thanks and enjoy your chats.
Hornish I think Walt you can pencil in for a 16th to 20th..kind of deal..All of the Hendrick cars have top-10 potential..Junior and Jimmie possible top-5 or better material..So that should score some points.
Hey, Guru! Is it just me, or was the finish at Watkins Glen one of the most exciting finishes in one of the most exciting seasons we've had in awhile? This fight for the wild-card spots has certainly put some zing in my season as a fan....
Yes, Joanie I thought the finish at the Glen was one for the ages...season has been good with some great moments...and this wild card deal will make for some interesting "occurences" in the next four races that's for sure.
Wasn't Casey Mears a certain S&P this week though?
I'm going to double check that..I thought I had in my notes he was start and park this week, but couldn't find them so I'm playing it safe until I can ask Bootie Barker again for sure.
As the segment wears down the "top tier" guys are getting awfully expensive. If you had to pick two most worth the hefty price this week who would it be? Personally I'm thinking the 17 and 88?
I'd start with Johnson and Kenseth Zach and they could be almost interchangeable with Biffle and Dale Jr...
So Mears is not a start and park at Michigan? Last week you indicated that he would be. In any event, please pick 2 from 22, 43, and Bayne. Thanks!
Thought I had already scoped that out and knew I had it last week, but for the love of Mike can't find that note..I like the 22 over the 43...Hornish needs good finishes now in the worst way to keep the 22 ride next season. Almirola needs some strong finishes too, but I don't think he's as desperate.
Ummmm didn't you say Mears was going to be a start and and park at Michigan or was it just a fignewton of my imagination?
Okay...people slap me around with a wet noodle..then sue me...and let's move on..just a "Goober Garrow" moment..lol
Mark, sorry I'm late just got back from the gym and getting stuff for grad school. For prelim lineup I have 17-16-88-22 but thinking of starting 21 instead of 22 but only 3 starts left w/Bayne, what do you think I should do?Also, judging from Gibbs' comments today and reading some tea leaves, I see Logano in the 22 and Hornish trying to prove if he belongs in a 3rd Penske car I take it?
I just got back from the gym too..Proud of myself because today I ripped off three sets of 25 with 350 pounds..was a warm-up...what? You folks don't believe me?...I feel insulted..lol...Nick the 22 is the safer pick..about equal upside but Hornish is more consistent these days at getting car to the finish line in one piece..Need to follow the practices and qualifying, though, to get a real read on what to do with these guys.
Why, in your opinion, is Smoke so uneven this season? His *hero or zero* runs have me very nervous about putting him on a roster....Thanks, as always!
He's been a little up and down for sure..and you're right he gives people the jitters when they put him on the roster...I think, though, when the Chase starts they won't be experimenting as much and that should help the consistency.
Looking at 48, 88, 18, 9, and 78. See any big holes?
No holes...no bow-wows...I like that team.
Guru, what do you think of 48, 78, 18, 9 with either 88 or 14? Thanks.
Like Zippy that's pretty strong line-up Dave and I'd rank the 88 over the 14 but they'll be very close.
Mr Guru, what is the most important factor in picking a driver/car?
Saul, I would look at recent past performance at a particular track, Michigan in this case, look at how they've been doing recently the last month or two overall..then check out practice and qualifying...and then to be sure tune into my race day chat sessions (this Sunday at 10:30)after I get a read from different crew chiefs as to how they see the race going down.
Guru - I hope Larry realizes that you purposely change your roster every week as an example to your followers of the weeks best picks, rather than "hold on" to top picks and let their value increase - thus your rank does not reflect your competitive ability if you were playing *hard-core*, for rankings....
That's really no big deal Joanie...I'm here to try and give you folks the best experience I can. It's my opinion I can't do that unless I change my team every week to give people stuff to think or argue about..
What do you think of this lineup:88,5,39,9,&78?
Pretty good team Jill..but I like the 18 over the 39...
Hey guru....saw that you have the 17 ranked second this week.....does his lame duck status make you worry about that at all....do you think roush will make sure carl gets the best piece available the next few weeks to get him in the chase?
I'm not to really worried about that..I've seen no evidence Roush Fenway has done that yet or will do that in the future...They just try to get everyone the best stuff and see what they can do.
Might want to ice down after that workout Mark lol.
Workout?...Again, that was just my warm-up...that and a thousand push-ups...actually not a thousand...more like 1200..finally worked up a sweat! lol
I'm not saying its wrong but isn't it quite amazing to see Ambrose ranked higher pre-race than Edwards at a track like Michigan?
I even surprised myself with that one Jim..but the 9 car definiely is faster at Michian gong in.
Could you give me a guestimate of what would be Almirola four best tracks left this year?
I would say Richmond, Bristol after that not so sure..
Do you think that Tony Stewart & Danica Patrick will trade Sponsors in select Races in 2013 since Tony Stewart pays for both Sponsors?
No idea, but companies always like to do some B to B and cross polinate Chris.
how about 48-88-2-18-22
I can live with that team Don..I think the 14 has a little upside over the 2 but not much..22 should be solid top-20 kind of pick..only guy maybe to think of there and he's a little more expensive is Regan Smith.
Just a note to Joanie. Yes, I know how Guru Operates, and I have tinkered with my drivers a few times. But isn't the goal to get the most points, while having that fun?I think I have been been pretty cometitive. But I do see her point. Hey Joanie, join our fan conversations. We'd be glad to have you.
People it's all good..all the time...I guess what I should do is have one team under an assumed name..Then, let everyone know at the end I had a team that I played to win.....and still finished 200th...lol...appreciate all of you I really do.
What race do you think that Danica Patrick will get her Very First NASCAR win at either in Nationwide Or Sprint Cup?
Don't really know because that's a long ways down the road, if ever...She's competitive and has a lot of talent..but if and when it comes together for a win don't know.
Thanks, Larry - I've just heard so many Guru detractors in the past, claiming they are so much better because they don't know how he operates, it gets my blood up - awesome on your accomplishments this year, love to join you!
Wow...I didn't know Joanie was my white knight...lol...So, there it is folks..poke the Guru..shove the Guru...spit on the Guru's shoes and ..................................Joanie will kick the living daylights out of you!
Wow...the hour flew by...got to run...locked to this desk since 8:30 and now another hour to put my PRN show together for today...Thanks for joining me ..great chat..We'll do it again from Michigan Sunday morning at 10:30 eastern..until then have a great week and may the force be with you...Sad to say but must.."The Guru has left the building!"
