Chat with Farrell Evans

Welcome to my Wednesday chat. Let's get started.

Florida Thunder (Hot, Humid, S. Florida)

Hello. Carig never answered if OWGR points are issued to any or each of the 4 FedEx playoff tourneys. Not FedEx points, but OWGR? Thanks in advance.

Farrell Evans
  (3:07 PM)

When Bill Haas won the 2011 Tour Championship, the Playoff finale, he jumped 25 places in the OWGR.

Florida Thunder (Hot, Humid, Rainy, S. Florida)

How many spots could TW possibly go up if he wins 1? Are all 4 of equal OWGR value for first place? Thanks.

Farrell Evans
  (3:15 PM)

They wouldn't have equal points because the strength of field could vary from event to event.

Stees (NC)

Farrell, will Tiger win another major?

Farrell Evans
  (3:19 PM)

It's hard to imagine that he would play another four 40 majors with a real chance of winning and him not come away with at least one. But it could happen. The more time he goes without winning one the more difficult it's going to be to finally have a breakthrough. It looks like his nerves come out on the weekend.

Scott (Texas)

Does Collins actually look at the field before making his picks each week? He is horrible.

Farrell Evans
  (3:30 PM)

I think so. It's a tough business. I take into consideration a lot of factors and sometimes I'm right.

Scott (Texas)

Wow, slow chat day considering I got that one in....On a serious note what do you think of Colesarts chances this week? He always seemed doomed by one HORRIBLE Round.

Farrell Evans
  (3:33 PM)

I have watched Colesarts some this year. As you know, he's a very long hitter, but he's still a little rough around the edges. The more polish he gets on his game, the less we'll see such highs and lows.

Scott (Texas)

Do you think the crazy heat we have seen all summer affects the older portly gentlemen such as Duke and Petterson come Sunday's?

Farrell Evans
  (3:38 PM)

Scott,The heat impacts all the players, but the better shape you're in the better you're going to handle the heat. Both these players you mention have been walking golf courses for years and are getting plenty of hydration. So I couldn't say definitively how it impacts them.

Chris (NJ)

Farrell - any predictions on how Bethpage will play next week? How many times have you played it this year?

Farrell Evans
  (3:40 PM)

Chris, I play Bethpage a lot. It's not going to be U.S. Open hard, but hard enough. The course is so brutally unforgiving that unless they play the ladies' tees it's still going to lay a beating on most of the people. I just wish they would change the 18th hole. It's so boring.

Scooter (Oklahoma)

Whatney suprise this week?

Farrell Evans
  (3:42 PM)

Watney is off his game a bit. I know Kiawah was playing really hard on Friday, but for him to shoot an 82 with all his gifts is pretty sad.

Stees (NC)

why does Tiger hit fades into lefthand pin locations. we've seem him hit solid draws this year.

Farrell Evans
  (3:44 PM)

Stees,Generally, Tiger has been having trouble getting his fades to fall a little right. They have been staying left more than he likes. I saw that a good bit at Congressional.

Adam (Toronto)

Can't knock Davis Love if he goes with guys 9-12 on the Ryder Cup standings for his picks, but I'm thinking that Bill Haas gets inspired by last year's FedEx Cup run and gives himself a chance. Thoughts?

Farrell Evans
  (3:48 PM)

I have talked to Bill about this on a couple of occasions this year. He feels like he's got to play his way on to this team. The only thing I can see Love doing differently is if he gives Bo Van Pelt a shot on the team. Going with 9-12 off the rankings isn't exactly taking the job by its head. Does Rickie Fowler deserve to be on the team right now? He's in that 9-12 group.

Farrell Evans
  (3:50 PM)

Tiger. Easily. Tiger is going to win 100 tournaments. But Rory might catch him in the majors.

charles (cleveland)

are tiger's issues mental or mechanics? we've seen a big progression from tiger in terms of his tee to green game so do you think they can be fixed? and which major venue outside of augusta national "fits Tiger's Eye" in 2013?

Farrell Evans
  (3:54 PM)

Tiger's issues are completely mental. Look at how he played on the weekend at Kiawah. It's pressure. All the major venues suit his eye. You don't win as much as he has and not be able to play well on a variety of courses.

Jordan (Indianapolis)

Farrell, longshot question here. Who do you think has a bigger career when its all said and done. Rory or Tiger?

If Fowler's done enough to get into the top 12, that means he absolutely deserves to be on the team. However, there's a difference between someone deserving a spot and which player would be the best pick right now for the team.

John (Naples)

What Tiger used to be able to do was win with his "B" game. I have not seen this out of Rory. Obviously when Roy is on he is outstanding. Do you agree?

Farrell Evans
  (4:02 PM)

Rory has to win with his A game. I'd like to see him do it on his B game.

Adam (Toronto)

Rickie's the most marketable guy in golf. He won a tournament this year and proved that team competition inspires him to raise his game. Plus, pair him with Bubba to take the pressure off. Of concern? He's never qualified for a team competition as a pro on his own accord. That's a consistency problem, not an overall skill problem. If Fowler gets bumped, then who does it come down to? Haas, Snedeker, Van Pelt, anyone else? (After Mahan, Stricker, and Furyk, who I feel are locks)

Farrell Evans
  (4:03 PM)

Guys, I have to go now. Join me next Wednesday at the Barclays, same time, same place. Peace.
