Thank you all for joining the chat. Let's try to be more well-behaved than Joe Haden. Is that a deal? On a side note, it looks like former Bengals-Browns guard Eric Steinbach is announcing his retirement. He worked out for the Ravens. That accounts for every team except the Steelers. Now, let's kick off the chat.
Who will be the Very First AFC North Team to Play on Sunday September 9?
That would be the Browns. Steelers play at night. Bengals and Ravens play Monday night.
Will McKinney be the starting LT
It would be surprised if McKinnie wasn't the starting left tackle this year. Next season, that's a different story. I see Oher moving over there if the Ravens can't find anyone in free agency.
Who leads the Browns in catches this year and how has Josh Gordon looked thus far?
Don't count preseason stats. Waste of time. As far as Gordon, he has had a rough preseason. Lack of effort in opener. Bad route running in second week. Gordon has apparently looked better in practice this week. We'll see.
Any rumors on MJD and the Jags FO and the Steelers FO as far as a trade?
Any truth to the rumor of the Steelers interest in Maurice Jones Drew?
Have not heard a word.
Mr. JH. I read the AFC North blog like the morning news everyday when I wake up and every night before I go to bed. I want to know what the FS "position battle" has looked like thus far. Early on I kept hearing about Hagg starting (which I think a guy named Nebraska's Defensive MVP over Akamura is pretty inpressive), but now I all talk has died down. Will he be out there on the opening snap against the Eagles in Week 1?
Unless I've missed something in the preseason games, Hagg will be the starter. When I visited the Browns earlier this month, it was considered a lock. He's a hard worker who has a nose for the ball.
So you finally came out and complimented andy dalton. I knew you had something under all that hair
Didn't know I was a Dalton hater. That argument is more valid with Colt McCoy.
I like the way DeCastro has looked so far, but Mike Adams is really scaring me. He needs to work on his upper body strength, he's constantly getting pushed back. Your thoughts?
The fact that Max Starks worked with the first team in his first full practice is a tip-off to me that Adams has a lot of work to do.
Do you think the ravens will make any moves at wr are go with what they have
Boldin, Smith and Jones will be the top three receivers this year.
Will the ravens look at any of the RB on the market are will B Pierce be the back up
The Ravens want Pierce to win that job. It looks like he's going to be the guy at No. 2 behind Rice.
Since Pittsburgh have so many injuries at RB what do you think about if the Steelers trade Mike Wallace for Jacksonville MJD? This trade may help both sides since jacksonville need a quality #1 reciever next to Blackmon
Player for player trades are rare because of salary cap acceleration.
With the injuries, do you think the Steelers D will finish in the top 5?
The Steelers finished No. 1 with Harrison and Woodley rarely on the field at the same time. The only concern with the Steelers defense is at cornerback. If they don't live up to expectations, the Steelers could finish out of the top 5.
Shipley got cut from the Bengals do you see any team picking him up ??
He got picked up by Tampa Bay.
When can Steeler Nation declare Jason Worilds a 'bust'?
Getting close to that point. Chris Carter has looked good, though.
Who do you think will win the world series this year?
Orioles vs. Pirates. It would be baseball, AFC North style.
How many sacks will Big Ben take this year? This year's line looks much better in run blocking, but not any better in pass protection.
That is the big concern. You're right about the run blocking. The Steelers drove the Colts off the ball Sunday night. My guess is Haley will try more quick-hitting passes and try to get Roethlisberger to get rid of the ball faster.
Do you see M. Wallace playing this preseason, or more likely to play week 1?
Might make a cameo in Week 4. That's what I would do to make the point that he should've been in camp.
Aww not love for the Reds??
Sorry about that. I do want to see a game at Great American. It looks like a great place to see a game.
Pat's or Geno's?
That's an NFC East question.
Do you like Applebee's?
I always order the punch-in-the-face fries.
Who do you see starting opposite Leon Hall week 1 in Baltimore? Clements, Newman, Allen or Adam Jones?
That's a good question. I would say Clements but I know the coaches like Newman as well. It would be between those two defenders.
Who do you see making the team at RB for the Ravens? Rice, Pierce and Bobby Rainey? Do they look for a veteran?
It's Rice, Pierce, Rainey. Anthony Allen will get cut.
Hey JH. When will you be making your much anticipated and always controversial predictions, at least among the 4 fan bases, for the AFCN this season?
It should come out next week. Don't hold me to it, though.
With the Steelers young and talented quartet of WR's, why are they so focused on running the ball more this season?
When Art Rooney II says that the Steelers need to run it, you run it or you'll end up like Arians. I don't think it will be all ground-and-pound this year. They'll try to use it to set up the deep pass. But, as one reader pointed out, this offensive line is better at run blocking so far.
What will the Browns starting lineup at linebacker look like Week 1?
Jackson, JMJ and Maiava.
Even with injuries I think the Steelers have enough RBs that they don't need to look out of house yet. But should the Steelers think about drafting someone next year if Mendenhall isn't the same/isn't with the team after this season?
I thought there was a chance that the Steelers could take a running back in the first couple of rounds this year. Doug Martin would have been a great fit. So, yes, running back will be a priority next year.
Do you see the bengals trying to acquire MJD from the jags? please tell me we will save our cap space to resign players next season then to sign him
Bengals committed to BJGE this year.
With Mike Wallace coming in and Starks, Mendehall, Harrison, Redman and Dwyer all coming back from injuries, it appears the Steelers will be ready to start the season relatively injury free. Having Hampton would be a plus but so far McLendon appears ready to hold the fort. Does this make the Steelers more prepared to jump out to an early lead in the AFCN, and if not who?
I agree with you that the injuries are coming along for the Steelers. I'm really surprised by the progress of Starks. There's even a chance that Hampton and Mendenhall won't get their starting jobs back even when healthy. The biggest health concern for Week 1 is Harrison.
Do you think Dontay Moch could have an impact rotating in at DL or pass rushing from the LB spot when he gets back from his suspension?
Bengals would like to get a few sacks out of him this year. That's why they drafted him. So far, a big disappointment.
Is Richardson's injury a concern for game 1?
I think he plays but he will be limited.
What Percent chance Richardson has a better season than Rice?
Very low, especially with Richardson already nursing a sore knee. The only way Richardson produces more total yards is if Rice gets hurt this year.
With the Addition of Frostee;Schwartz, do you think the browns have the best offensive and Defensive lines in the north?
Bengals have best defensive line. Not even close.
Which QB will have the best season in the division? For some reason I think it will be Flacco. Your thoughts???
I will say Roethlisberger until proven wrong. But I do believe Flacco has a career year this season. He finally looks in control of the offense.
do you think ben will have a better season with this new o.c.?
Yes I do. Even though Roethlisberger was closer with Arians, Haley will make him a better QB.
Do you see this year as the start of a decline for the Steelers?
I don't think so. I see them contending for a Super Bowl like the past few years.
What are the chances the browns keep Colt as back-up and cut Wallace?
That's the move I would make.
Your thoughts on Wallace getting a long term deal done prior to the season? Is this his last year as a Steeler?
Not his last year. And there is a chance a deal could get signed before the season but I wouldn't bet any money on it. I might bet yours.
How does the Bengals Def Line compare to the NFL? Top 3?
Haven't really analyzed the rest of the league that closely. Bengals DL is best in the North, though.
JH, do you have an altar ego who posts comments in the articles? If so, I don't need to know who. We all know wild speculation passed off as fact is our game.
Sorry, that's way too much work. I don't have the time with writing blogs and taking care of a wife who is eight months pregnant.
Is Ryan Whalen the odd WR out for the Bengals?
I think they can still put him on practice squad. Don't hold me to that, though.
Who do you see finishing as the steelers top wideout?
Mike Wallace. But that's not guaranteed. When I visited camp, you could see Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown working tirelessly.
If Taylor was healthy would you consider it close? You claim Rucker was the best player on their dline last year. I cant see how having taken him away with Taylor, Rubin and Sheard you could consider us much worse.
Have you seen the Browns play run defense?
Do you have a rule in your chats only to answer one question per person?
I do my best to spread around the questions.
JH, when is your wife due, mine is due Sept 26, hopefully she can avoid sundays when she goes into labor!
Sept. 9. But I don't think she is going to make it that to that point.
How much time will Chris Rainey get in the backfield/slot this year? he seems like a multidimensional player that can change the pace of the game
Rainey will see a lot of time in third-down packages. At camp, they had him lined up everywhere. It was interesting to watch.
DO YOU THINK ITS TIME TO GIVE UP ON JAMES HARRISON WITH THE BACK SURGERY,NOW KNEE SURGERY PLUS HIS AGE?
No shouting please.
Is Tate still in line to start opposite AJ Green in week 1? Or has Binns pushed ahead?
I would go with Binns at this point. Hawkins is the guy in the slot.
Over or Under 13 wins for the browns?
Did you mean losses?
Why do you answer such garbage? The Browns, best D line? WTH? That should earn a ban
You're right. He's banned. Wait, what was the person's name again?
Why is Cincinnati's DL the best?
Atkins is one of the best DTs in the league. Peko is an underrated interior player. Dunlap could be special at DE. Michael Johnson has made strides. That's why.
Who is winning the opposite corner spot of Ike?
Keenan Lewis is going to take that job. Cortez Allen is the nickel. Curtis Brown played himself out of any shot for those jobs.
Not sure why you've gotten so many questions about MJD to the Steelers. I don't understand why anyone would think that is a possibility. When do the Steelers ever go after big names.
Has McLendon shown flashes of Casey Hampton-like features? I know he bulked up like 45lbs
McLendon is strong. Real strong. He has been very impressive. I think he holds the job even when Hampton comes back.
Will AJ Green and Andy Daltons chemistry improve from last season?
I thought there was good chemistry last season. Green will have a monster year. I would triple-team him.
With Wallace in the fold, would you agree that only GB has a stronger corp than the Steelers?
It depends on Sanders' health. He always seems to get hurt. Cotchery isn't bad, though.
Given the signing of Brown, the strained relationship with the FO, and the limitations of the cap... is this Wallace's last year in the 'burgh?
The threat of the franchise tag will help the Steelers in contract talks.
Who comes out as the Ravens Kicker? My Cundiff jersey is still buried somewhere in my trunk where it has sat since that dreadful day. Should I invest in a new kicker's jersey, or not curse anyone else by wearing anyone's jersey?
Even though Tucker has looked much better, I say the Ravens stick with Cundiff. If Ravens were going to part ways with Cundiff, they would've done it after the AFC championship game.
Will Colt McCoy be traded, if so what will the browns presumably get in return?
I would do it for a fifth-rounder. But I don't know if they get that.
What do you make of Joe Haden being kicked out of practice?
It looks like Haden is really frustrated. As I wrote in my blog today, you can see it in the AFC North section, this is the time for Haden to step up as a leader. Defense needs him to be a positive influence.
How likely is it that Laquan Williams takes the 3rd receiver spot from Jacoby Jones at some point this year?
Only if Jones gets the case of the drops. WIlliams has had his fair share as well. Don't see it happening. Jones will be the No. 3. Williams is a special teamer.
Based on what you have seen, quick question regarding first round draft picks of 2012. Trent Richardson + Brandon Weeden OR Ryan Tannehill Doug Martin the 4th, 5th and 7th rounder we gave up?
Richardson/Weeden. If healthy, Richardson is clearly the best rookie running back.
Will Marvin Jones be the Bengals version of Torrey Smith and Mike Wallace?
I've heard the comparisons to Torrey. But it might not show up this year. He still has to develop to get on the field more.
Thanks for all the good questions. Will see everyone same time next week. Hope you have a great rest of the week. Enjoy Week 3 of the preseason.
