Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Let's get rolling.

taylor (kc)

Any other options for the Chiefs than Andy Studebaker filling in for Tamba Hali week 1?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

It will probably be Studebaker. The key for me, is that Justin Houston gets a huge pass-rushing burst in that game.

glenn (st. joseph, mo)

Any word on Flowers or Lewis? Without Hali for week one we will need all of our secondary.

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

The Chiefs are being pretty quiet. Nothing concrete.

Kyle (Lincoln NE)

The Bills, Browns, Colts, Chiefs, Redskins, Vikings, Buccaneers, and Rams all finished last in their division last year. Assuming the streak continues, which team is going to make the worst-to-first jump?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Chiefs look pretty good in that group, don't they?

Jeff (CA)

I really did like AJ Smith's offseason compared to most, but I am deadly affriad of our O line depth this year. Gaither cant stay healthy and the Charers have no viable replacements unless you call undrafted rookies viable. Any way the Chargers and especially AJ can do something about this before the season starts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Ovrerall, the O-line depth is better. And yes, there are usually some solid OL depth options available after the final cut.

Scott Jewell (Lawrence)

Bill, over/under on 9 wins this year for KC if they stay healthy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

If they stay healthy (and they aren't right now), I'd say over.

Roger (Ohio)

Given that neither Quinn nor Stanzi has shown much in the pre-season do the Chiefs look for a better #2 QB like they did last year? And if so, who might work in their system?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I think, just an educated guess, that Quinn will be the No. 2 guy. Crennel is comfortable with him and he hasn't been bad.

Jake (CA)

Hi Bill, Ingram has looked like a beast all preseason, but last game he played sparringly compared to the starters Phillips and Johnson. Please tell me Norv turner actually realizes Ingram needs to play?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

Rest easy. He'll play.

Tron209 (Atwater, CA)

Bill, you think the trade of Murphy will haunt us?; or are we ok with Criner and Streater?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I don't think it will hunt them, but I think having Murphy on the roster right now (because of all of the injuries) would be more valuable than having a conditional 7th rounder.

Hansome Hank (House Arrest)

Which is the REAL Chiefs? vs Cards or vs Rams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

The one that will hit the field in Week 1.

Alex (AZ)

Bill, shouldn't the Chargers take the cautios path with River's this preseason game and sit him, since the O line is currently starting an undrafted rookie at LT and a 7th round rookie at Center? Jared Allen could seriously kill Rivers and the Chargers entire season in one play?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

It's is a tough situation. I can see your point and keeping Rivers off the field because Gaither and Hardwick are out. However, this is the most important preseason game. Rivers needs the work. So, it would hurt the offense if he doesn't play. of coruse, it would really hurt the offense if he gets seriously injured. Really a tough call. Maybe there is a compromise siutation and Rivers could play a half instead of three quarters.

Alan (Richmond, VA)

With initial roster cuts around the corner, do you think KnowShow Moreno has a chance to make the 75-man roster? What about the 53?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I think he makes it til the final cut day. Then, all bets are off.

Tom (KC)

How long into the season do you think it will be before Bowe is fully acclimated to the new offense and is conditioned enough to play a full game without hesitation? Is he ready to go week 1?

Jake (New Orleans, Louisiana)

How is Brandon Taylor looking for the Chargers? Does he have a chance to start by the end of the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

I think he can do it by Week 1. He has to contiune to work hard, but he can be ready. On Taylor: The Chargers really like him. He will get opportunities to play, but Bigby has looked good too so Taylor willl not be rushed to the starting linuep.

Trevor (Toronto)

is there room for Shaun Smith to rejoin the chiefs? Would it be a good move?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Crennel likes him. I think they will look at their D-line depth after this game and make a decision. Going back to Kansas City is clearly Smith's first choice by the tone of his recent tweets.

Hobo (Park bench)

Have you heard anything regarding MJD to Den?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

You must get pretty nice wireless service from that bench, huh>?Nothing on MJD to Denver. I could see the Broncos, among other teams, being tempted, though.

Al (Wausau, WI)

Bill, in tomorrow night's Chargers game vs. the Vikings, how long do you think Norv Turner will play most of his starters? Into the third quarter?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

That's what coaches usually do in the thrid preseason game.

Mike (NJ)

Possibility of two teams coming out of division for playoffs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

How bout three? Seriously.

Derrick (CA)

Do the Chargers really think Ronnie Brown is a capable replacement for Matthews while he is out? Brown hasn't been productive for 2 straight years and has no explosiveness left. Do the Charegrs actually see this, and why not give Brinkley a shot while Matthews is out?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I think it is going to be a group effort. Plus, don't discount the idea of someone being picked up in early September if it is the right fit.

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

How bout three? Seriously.

Mike (Clearwater, FL)

Do you think Ryan Mathews will be back by week 3?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

Yeha, I think he should definitely be back in Week 3. Week 1 is a stretch, though.

Derrick (Albany)

Will Willis McGahee get more or less yards in rushing? Without a run heavy Tebow lead offense I have my doubts despite him being really talented.

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

You are right, Tebow helped McGahee, but he's a pro and he will find a way to make an impact.

Andy (Chicago)

with the rams signing gholston does that mean raiders will grab carter and does that mean they didnt like what they saw in carter

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I think the Rams thougth Gholsotn was a better option than Carter. The Boston Herald reported that Carter is not ready. The fact that Oakland didn't sign him when they had him at camp, may lend credence to that report.

Jamall (KC)

I'm Starting to look like my oldself agreed bill?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Sure, it' sstill going to take some time.

Derrick (Albany)

The only place in the AFC west that would even consider MJD would be San Diego right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

There is a lot of talk about Denver, too.

Gregory (CA)

On a scale of 1-10 how worried should Chargers fans feel about our O-Line this season? I'm pretty close to a 10 honestly, especially if gaither can't stay healthy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Right now, it's a 9. But I think that number will dive down by the time the season starts.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

With Vincent Brown out, who do you consider the frontrunner to lead the Bolts in rec yds? Meachem, who Rivers is supposedly having "chemistry issues" with, or Floyd, who has trouble staying healthy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

I'll go with Floyd, because he is so talented and he has a good chemistry woth Rivers.

Sugar Plums (NJ)

How dangerous does Run DMC look, because I might use him for FFB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Pretty dangerous. He's a star.

Alex (Maryland)

Bill, I am a huge Chargers fan. I had great expectations heading into this year, but now I'm worried. Our O- line is very banged up, and we have a lot of injuries(i.e. Mathews, V.Brown, Hardwick, Gaither). Can the Chargers still be a playoff team?P.S Great work on the blog.

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

They can't deal with too many injuries. They are piling up. But this is a taleneted team. The key is defensive improvement, which I see.

Bill Williamson

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Best bet from each team to lead their club in receptions?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

Den; DeckerKC: Bowe.Oak: DHB (moore's hammy could potnetilaly linger)SD: Gates

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Is the Tamme-used-to-play-with-PM hype overblown? Dreesen has looked like the better player...

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Maybe, Dreesen probabl;y is the better player. But Tamme is solid and his past with the quarterback is important.

Andy (Chicago)

With lackluster performances in the first 2 games how much time does Plamer and the offense get this week?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Probably up to three quarters.

McNutty (Seattle)

Am I the first one to ask about Denver trading for MJD?What are the chances of that happening: slim or none?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

It was addressed a little early. I'd say slim more than none.

Adil (Fairfax VA)

Is there any chance that the chargers would trade for ryan mathews to get MJD I heard that MJD is from south california so he might be fine with taking a pay cut.

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

He's from the Bay Area and went to UCLA. Do you really think he is holding out so he can take a pay cut from another team?

Derrick (Albany)

Do you think that Brock Osweiler can be a capable backup to Manning?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the abckup at some point this season.

Mike (O'C)

Palmer, Rivers, and Manning have been tossing up picks in preseason . Just some rust issues or should their be concern?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Just the preseason. But it an area all three must work on.

Scott (San Diego)

Please tell me the Raiders will bring in another RB to back up DMC. The knock on Goodson was that he fumbles, see AZ game. Jones has been hurt since last season, so I doubt he can stay healthy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I've been saying that for months. Goodson may become good, but they need some experience.

kevin (tampa, fl)

eric berry have a legit shot at dpoy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

I'd like to see him play some after taking the year off, first. But there is no doubt, Berry is a special player.

Mic (Work,pffft)

Do you think Peyton's neck problems is more than he lead to believe with the talk of problems looking and throwing right? Do you think the dink and dunk short game will be enough?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

He's fine to his left. The right side will come back, but right now, it's an issue. Defensive coordinators will try to exploit it, but Manning is smart enough to adjust. But he is at about 85 percent, not 100. That's the reality.

Alex (Maryland)

What positions are the Chargers going to draft at next year in the first round? I am thinking O- line for sure. Your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Yeha, prob a tackle.

J.B. (N.C.)

week 1 more likely to start Moore are Ford with the injury situation?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I'd thinK Moore.

Derrick (Albany)

Do you think Eric Decker will be a top ten receiver by the end of the year? Demayrius Thomas too?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I think both players will make an impact, but Decker may have Manning's trust more. Still, I see Thomas making a ton of big plays.

HUGE SF GIANT FAN (SF)

Bill,How sweet was the sweep of the Dodgers? What do you think about that?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Awesome.

65TossPwrTrap (KC)

How did the Chiefs tight ends (Moeaki and Boss specifically) look in camp? Do you think Moeaki will be asked to block more (as he is a great run blocker) at the expense of his downfield abilities?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Both look really good. I love that dimension to the Chiefs' offense.

Leland (Denver City, TX)

Some say mathews could be rdy week 1. I thnk the chargers shoud sit him even if almost 100% until week 2 or 3 and really see what they have in Mathews. Your thoughts

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

If I had to guess, I'd say Week 3. Just a guess, though.

Mike (NJ)

What less popular player intrigued you during your trip to KC?

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

I liked the bakcup DTs.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Great hour, folks. Talk to you next week.
