Hello chatters. What's on your mind aftera wild wekeend at the new and improved Bristol?
i'm happy stewart threw his helmet. it's been awhile since owner/driver has lost his cool.
I gave him a 10 in our ratings today on his helmet toss. And I didn't know he was a Southpaw until that moment.
do u think happy harvick(who probably isn't too happy now) could get bumped out of the top-10 points and miss the chase?
It's mathematically possible, but highly unlikely with two races to go before the Chase.
When the 2013 schedule is released, should we expect anything more than date swaps here and there? Will any tracks gain or lose races?
I don't think so. Unless NASCAR pulls a shocker, it's look like the same old thing. And I think that's a shame.
We are helping volunteer at the races this weekend in Atlanta. Would love to know what you think of the race experience here and what is the general feeling of what the drivers think of coming to Atlanta.
Most drivers like Atlanta as a fast 1.5-mile where you can make passes. It's kind of in the middle ogf no where, but not too far from the Atlanta airport. The track is south of town and almost everything cool and trendy is north of town.
Hi Terry. I think every famous driver should have a catchy nickname. What do you think- Patwreck or Danicrash?
I get your point, but I don't think it catchy.
With his past success at Chase tracks NH and Dega, shouldn't Clint be at least considered a darkhorse for the championship?
A very dark horse.
Do you think Danica's finger wagging was to soft after she got crashed, considering Smokes reaction?
I loved it. I wrote today in Turn 4 it reminded me of a schoolmarm pointed at the kid who said the dog ate his homework
Don't you think the media would be going crazy if it was Kurt Busch who threw his helmet and not Tony Stewart? Tony's pulled a lot of stunts over his career, why the free pass?
Because no one was in any danger. And Kurt's on probabton, so he needs to mind his manners.
Rate casey mears performance as the surprise polesitter at bristol
A total fluke, but he did a nice job of staying up front for a while.
how about that crowd in the stands!?
I was pleasantly surprise at the attendance. Really nice to see a big crowd there.
What's up with tony stewart? He should keep that helmet on his head. 15 yard penalty. Loss of race. Did he think MK was going to let him pass just because he thought he had a faster car. Stop crying... I'm going to run over him every chance I get. E v e r y C h a n c e I g e t. Bumpin and Bangin are good, even when you are on the wrong end of the mess. Watch out TS
It's just boys being boys Bob. All part of the show.
Before the wreck. Do you think that was Danica's best Sprint Cup race?
Possibly. She really surprised in both Bristol races over the weekend. That's a tough place to stay on the lead lap, but she showed a lot fo patience.
See I thought Danica should have thrown her shoe. That would have been funny!!
Oh, I like that Scott. Didn't think of that one. That would have been classic.
Hi Terry, what does your gut tell you as to where Joey will end up, also it looks like you don't like TO very much and are very happy that he is out of Seattle.
I'm thrilled TO is outta here. The guy is nothing but trouble. Seattle is starting a rookie QB is Wilson and the last thing he needs is Owens second-guessing him on every play. As for Joey, it looks like he's headed to Penske and Roger probably will have a third car for Sam.
Has Brad burned all his HMS bridges with his accusations of 48 HMS cheating and the way Jimmie and Dale smacked him down Friday at Bristol?
Just all part of the game Luke. I've seen Jimmie play that same type of game on guys he wanted to intimidate in the Chase.
Were you surprised that JGR granted Rowdy permission to run the Atlanta truck race since the last time Rowdy run trucks Hornaday caused so much trouble for Kyle?
I believe that was the other way around.
What do you think NASCAR would have done if it had been Kurt or Rowdy tossing that helmet at Matt?
Kurt's on probation, so it might have cost him some cash. But really, I doubt anything would have happened. It really wasn't a big deal. Just a funny thing to watch.
Your top 5 drivers and a darkhorse for Atlanta?
Gordon, Kahne, Kyle, Carl and Kenseth. My darkhorse is Ambrose.
Do you think Dale used up all his stuff just getting into the Chase and now the tank is empty and 88 willl probably finish 12-10th in final pts?
No I don't. I think the 88 team will run well in the Chase.
Hi Terry, which do you think is more likely to happen in the next two races...Jimmy/Tony/Brad/Denny winning a 4th race to secure top seed going into the Chase or Kyle/Jeff winning 2nd race to lock in wild card?
Great question. I'd say it's a toss up. Jimmie or Denny could win again, but Gordon is very good at Atlanta and Kyle is good at Richmond.
Assess the Biff's chances at winning the Sprint Cup title...where do you have him ranked in the terms of the top contenders? I think JJ is far and away the favorite but he's top three at least (with Brad K). Your thoughts?
This probablty is Biff's best shot, but for now, I rate them this way 1) JJ. 2) Brad. 3) Denny.
Is it time to really consider that Kahne and Francis are looking like championship contenders, by overcome issues the last two weeks and the speed they have.
They are getting better and better and any driver with Hendrick equipment has a shot.
why do you not think that jr will run good in the chase and why???
I do think he will run well. But I don't think he's the favorite to win the title.
Hello Mr. Blount! Should we read any further into the various penalties against RCR this year, or are they just an unlucky coincidence?
I think the RCR guys are pushing the envelope because they are a little behind the other top teams this year. And I think they really miss Scott Miller running the show there.
do you think jr is gonna go for all wins know he is a lock for the chase?
Why wouldn't you? Winning and getting those bonus points is all that matters the next two races.
Does Tony 27th, Danica 29th and Newman 35th at Bristol pretty much prove that HMS isn't gonna get beat by a satelite customer team again?
No. All three of the wrecked. It doesn't prove a thing.
I thought Smoke's car looked drivable after the wreck and could have got back in the race sooner. Did he just want to put on a show?
It wasn't driveable. But he did put on a show.
Are we going to be seeing any addtional changes at Bristol ? or is it to soon ?
Don't fix what isn't broken. They will leave it the way it is for now and hope they continue to get a show like Saturday night.
If Jeff Gordon don't make the chase do ya think he is gonna have a new crew cheif next year?
No. I except Jeff and AG to stay together. They've run well but had some bad luck this year.
who do you think will win the belgian grand prix as spa this weekend and the f1 world championship?
I'll go with Alonso to win the title and Hamilton to win this weekend.
Does E. Sadler have anything lined up for next season
I assume you mean Cup, but no, not at this point.
Last year at this time Rowdy had 14 NASCAR wins and this year only 1? What happened to the old Rowdy?
He isn't running as many feeder series races and he isn't running in JGR equipment when he does.
Seriously, what does Vickers have to do to get a decent full time Cup ride? Batting .500 for Top 5's(small sample size I know), doesn't tear up racecars, and is pretty good with the media. RPM or EGR would be crazy not to give the guy a look
I agree, but it's all about sponsorship Jimmy. If a sponsor wants him, he's in.
Are you headed to Atlanta this weekend, and if so, what are your recommended eateries?
Ed lives in the Atlanta area, so he's covering the race this weekend. I will be dining in downtown Seattle on Elliott Bay.
Interesting that the 48 almost one another race, think he should be the favorite to win sunday night. Thoughts?
I wouldn't pick him as the favorite, but Jimmie can win any race on any weekend.
You written that A. Dillon is the 'real deal". Didn't his poor driving against Algaier, Bayne and Kahne plus his unprofessional hehavior toward Trevor post race show that Dillon has a long way to go?
Not to me. He's young and will make mistakes, but he's extremely talented. He will race one more year in NW then move to Cup in 2013.
Also are we sure tony wasnt puttin on a show for the fans and nascar especially since his comments on dega and daytona that they should be a figure 8?
You know Sam, I have to admit, that did run through my mind. Tony knows the situation. Bristol was coming off a bad race and needed a good show on the new surface. He also is good friends with Bruton Smith. I think Tony was angry, but maybe he wasn't quite as mad as he seemed to be.
Think Brad K should Remember what happened to hamlin and harvick when they got at one another and the 48 won that dover race commandingly? Head Games don't work on the 48.
Probably not, but Brad isn't the type of guy to worry about those things. He's going to say what he thinks and he doesn't care who likes it. And I like him that way. I wish more drivers were like that.
Hi Terry: Vegas has Jimmie as a 6-1 favorite. What are your apprehensions about him this weekend? Thanks!
I don't have any apprenhensions about him this weekend. I agree he's the title favorite, but I think one of the other guys who really needs a win might take the checkered flag Sunday night.
Are you sure Joey isn't being considered for the 22 NW ride? Sam has shown he belongs in that car in Cup.
I think they are hoping to have the sponosrship for three full-time Cup cars.
If Brad K wins the championship this year do you think Penske will rethink moving to Ford?
What? No, of course not. And Dodge isn't any option. They're out.
Isn't time Danica wrecked someone just to send a message that she isnt gonna be a doormat
I'm guessing that will happen before the end of the season.
Tire wear is becoming more of a non-issue in NASCAR these days. Is that good for racing? I prefer racing where tire management is a key component.
I agree Brian. They tires are too hard now and need to wear out more easily, but it's a bit of a fine line for Goodyear because they don't want tires blowing out 10 times a race.
Do you see the new 2013 cars making the racing more exciting and closer ?
That's NASCAR's hope. The cars are different on the nose and tail, but it's still the COT chassis. However, similar changes in NW have produced some close racing, but those cars have less horsepower. We'll see.
Does Hendrick have someone in mind to replace Gordon if he calls in quits in the next couple of yaers
I don't think Rick has really considering that yet. He is grooming young Chase Elliott, but his Cup career is a long way away.
If it comes down to Gordon and Busch, which I think it will, who do you think will take the second Wild Card spot?
It's a toss-up, but I'll go with Kyle. I think he can win at Richmond and rull well enough to hold his spot at Atlanta if Jeff doesn't win that race.
Does NASCAR have to approve sponsors before they're allowed to come in (not so much for conflicts of interest, but for instance, would Playboy be allowed to sponsor a driver as they have in the past in the Grand Am series)?
Yes, NASCAR does have final say on sponsors. I'm not sure wqhat they would say on Playboy, but my guess is that would be a no.
Who do you think was at fault for the Kenseth-Stewart wreck?
Nobody. Just hard racing and tempers flared. It's a Bristol tradition.
If you're going to Anthony's, I recommend the cioppino.
Been there done that Keith. I'm thinking about a stop at the Crab Pot with a giant sterling silver bowl and grub.
Do you think Edwards is in any kind of trouble with Roush since he is having a terrible year or is he safe?
His year isn't that bad. He's one spot from making the Chase. He's not in trouble.
Do you think Rowdy running all 3 races at Atlanta might help Rowdy to get his mojo back?
No I don't. I don't think it makes one iota of difference if he runs the feeder league races.
Who's HMS shop get preference? It seems JJ & JR's side is being given preference over Gordon
Absolutelty not. But the 48 and 88 teams work in the same building and build all those cars together.
Nice call on the Crab Pot.
It's messy, but that's what the bib is for.
Is Edwards wishing it was him going to Joe Gibbs Racing instead of his teammate Matt Kenseth?
I don't think so. Carl is happy at Roush, but it hasn't been his year.
I have been to the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500, and Daytona 500. This past Saturday night, I attended my first Bristol race. What a show! Bristol is not boring. There was side by side racing all over the track. I just wish there was a better finish.
That was the only tiny downer of the night. There is no place like Bristol for watching a race. If you are up high in the stands, it's almost like watching very load slot cars.
In IROC style cars and drivers in their prime who wins between Petty, Dale Sr. JJ, Person, and Smoke?
I'd go with Dale Sr. on that one. But my fellow Texan AJ Foyt might have beat all of them.
Wouldnt be cool if bristol put a boxing ring in the infeild for the drivers too battle it out after they wrecked each other lol
I'd go with cage fighting. Some might prefer mud wrestling if DP was involved.
Do you expect Rowdy to ever address the media regarding what #2 did to him at Watkins Glen and if he plans to retaliate like Stewart has threatened Kenseth?
I don't think he plans to talk about it, but he might give Brad a tap somewhere if the situation called for it.
With the way Joey beat down Hornish in the Bristol NW race why would Penzoil/ Penke even consider Sam for the #22 cup ride?
Because Roger is a very loyal guy and Sam has raced well under difficult circumstances of stepping in for AJ. And Roger knows Sam isn't going to do anyting off the track that might reflect poorly on the organization.
I guess I know where you stand on the Mario vs. AJ argument being from Texas.
I would side with AJ, but not because of the Texas connection. I just think he's the best race car driver who ever lived. But Mario, one of the all-time good guys in sports, isn't far behind. In a vote a few years ago for Driver of the Century (media and racers voted), AJ and Mario tied at the top.
Wouldnt Penske be better served if he had the 3 car team with logano and hornish
Yes, and that's the plan if he has the sponsorship money in place.
Gotta run folks. Great chat today. I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Enjoy the Atlanta race Sunday night and join on race chat if you can. Peace.
