Raymond Felton averaged 17.1 points and 9 assists when he played the 54 games here in NY. A lot of people say it was a product of playing in D'Antoni's system. Should we expect the 2010 Raymond (with his 2010 numbers) in Woodson's system this year?
I hear he's getting into top shape like he was entering his first season in New York. That's a great start, because he admitted that last season with the Trail Blazers he wasn't in top shape. If Carmelo wasn't in New York, I think Felton's numbers could be higher through running pick-and-rolls with Amare and Tyson, two of the best in the game in that situation. But with Carmelo in town (he obviously didn't play with Felton in 2010-11), I would say his assists will be right around there, but I could see his points lower. That's also because Jason Kidd will steal some minutes from Felton, who's never had a seasoned and serviceable backup like Kidd.
Will the New York Knicks Draft Pick of 2012 will play with the KNicks in the 2012-2013 Season?
Why haven't the knicks management figured out that Amare and Melo don't mesh well? I think its pretty obvious to see that they do they're best work on the same spot on the floor, or is it just me? Its just to crowded.
This question never gets old, but I don't think it's been fully answered yet. First off, this is their first full season playing together. That means they have a full training camp to sort stuff out. No excuses there. Also, I think Woodson was smart to encourage Amare to work on his post game during the offseason. He can't have Melo and Amare playing too much isolation together (in other words, crowding the court as you say). With more defined roles, that should help their relationship. What's more important, to me, is that they set a tone together defensively, and do it consistently. I spoke with Jeff Van Gundy, Charles Oakley, John Starks and a veteran NBA scout, and they all agreed.
I heard former knicks player Qyntel Woods was playing really well overseas. Any chance we ever see him again in a Knicks uniform!!
I haven't heard anything on this. If I do, I'll keep you posted.
Any new prospects for an offensive assistant coach to round out the staff or is Mike Woodson staying put?
It's staying put.
In your PERSONAL opinion, who will be better this upcoming season, the Nets or the Knicks?
Knicks. Because of better defense.
Jared do you think Iman Shumpert would be healthy and back for all star weekend for the rookie sophomore game and dunk contest?
Regarding that time period, I think so. He's likely due to return in December/January. But the dunk contest? I don't think the Knicks would want him to risk doing anything too crazy/funky out there.
I hear the Knicks might be interested in Utah's J. Howard. Is this true?
I have heard Josh Howard is interested in the Knicks, and the team is also intrigued. As far as how serious, I'm not sure at this point.
Who do you see the Knicks targeting for the back up PF roster spot?
As for targeting, I'm going to say "putting calls/feelers out there." There's nothing serious or imminent right now. The top guys are Kenyon Martin, Louis Amundson, Andray Blatche, D.J. White and Chris Andersen.
Do you think the Knicks will sign another back-up PF? ..Or will they role with the current line-up in which Stoudemire would be backed up by Kurt Thomas / Chris Copeland (assuming he's picked up after training camp)?
Regarding the depth chart, I think the Knicks could use one to backup Amare. But having Camby in the lineup does allow Woodson to mix things up. It's unclear exactly what they'll do. One agent told me, "The Knicks are not rushing any decisions." Another one said, "The Knicks aren't as predictable as you think." Remember the draft this year? I don't think anyone saw them selecting the Greek guy. So we'll see.
do the knicks have a draft pick next year? and do we have one in the first round?
Likely first round. Also, I believe a second-round pick from the David Lee trade in 2010.
Any chance of us landing Chris Paul next season??
Highly doubt it. And where's the money going to come from to sign him? Melo, Tyson and Amare, who has a untradeable contract (uninsured), aren't going anywhere. Beyond that, I don't think the Knicks have enough tradeable assets.
in your personal opinion who is better Jason Kidd or Steve Nash? and by how much a lot or a little
Steve Nash. He's better well-rounded offensively, still at this point in his career. Kidd doesn't get into the paint as much, which prevents him from doing all the things that Nash can do.
Realistically where do you see the Knicks ranking in the Eastern Conference this upcoming season? Do they have a chance to beat out Boston for the Atlantic Division?
Between the third and fifth seeds. I think the Heat and Celtics will take the top two spots, but the Knicks have a chance to beat Boston. Anytime you have Carmelo on the court, along with the defensive upgrades they made, they can do it.
Do you think Melo will be in Beast Mode this season? I believe if he is ever going to have an MVP-like year it is now or never.
I think he'll have that kind of mentality, but it shouldn't be an individual beast mode. The Knicks have built themselves a nice little team, and Melo needs to be in beast mode as a collective leader on both ends of the court. The best example is, of course, LeBron. He's the model for how its done.
How often do you see Felton and Kidd playing together? I feel like the two will benefit playing alongside each other especially since both can shoot the 3, penetrate, and dish. What are your thoughts?
On occasion, sure. It depends on matchups, variables in the game, etc. But it could work at times, especially because Kidd can play off the ball being that he's a solid 3-point shooter. Plus, he has size to guard some shooting guards. But I think once Shumpert comes back, and also with Smith and Brewer on the roster, those guys make more sense to play alongside Kidd or Felton. They have more size on defense, as well as additional slashing and scoring abilities.
Will the Knicks make it past the first round of the Playoffs this year?
I think so. Defense should carry them. But the Atlantic Division will be a tough one this season. In fact, it's the best division in the NBA. They could face any one of their rival teams, so chances are that whoever they play, it'll be a tough out in the first round.
Why did the ESPN writes vote us as the #1 team team for team's in turmoil. This offseason has to be one of our best in years because instead of making huge changes we have just added key veterans that can only improve our team. By not changing up the roster with huge changes like in the past it allows the key players to improve there chemistry, which is something that has lacked at times the past few seasons. What are your thoughts? Do you really feel we are headed for big problems?
I don't agree with the turmoil thing. Woodson won't let that happen, because he has great communication with his players, and he's no-nonsense guy who demands accountability, with results. Plus, the Knicks have plenty of veterans who have come to New York to sacrifice minutes and money to try to compete for a championship. I don't see much internal competition.
Is k-mart ever gonna make a decision?!
I think in the next week or so he will. Training camp starts at the end of September. I've heard the Knicks and Lakers are targets, but nothing is serious.
do you think DJ White is a good fit for the knicks he does have the Indiana connection with Woodson
Don't forget Glen Grunwald is a former Hoosier. He was productive in limited minutes in Charlotte last season, and I think he would add solid interior scoring and rebounding for the Knicks.
Will Amare return this season as a dominant force for the knicks or will he continue his O.K. run from last year?
He says his back feels great and he hasn't really missed a day of two-a-days all summer. He also worked with Hakeem Olajuwon for two weeks. I would say he's on his way to getting back to that dominant level. The biggest hurdle is Melo and Amare taking on more specific offensive roles, so they don't crowd the court, and buying into the overall defensive system. They played well under Woodson, so hopefully they can regenerate that same spirit, attitude and play for an entire season.
Jared, Do you think Ronnie Brewer will be the starting 2 guard? I feel JR is more of a 6th man?
Yeah, because of defense. Smith thrives as a spark off the bench with his instant energy, confidence and 3-point shooting.
What's going in between the Knicks and Andray Blatche? Heard he's talking to a few teams...any of them the Knicks?
Nothing right now. I'm not sure he's a great fit personality-wise, especially with the Knicks building more of a veteran team. But he would be obviously a talented up-and-comer on the Knicks roster. And I think Woodson would help set Blatche straight. He's acted a little immature in previous seasons.
how many roster spots do the knicks have left?
One potentially. Chris Smith's contract is just for training camp, so that could open up a spot. Keep in mind that teams don't have a limit as far as who they can invite to training camp.
Why not add Pat Ewing i think that would bring more energy to the Garden it would be in the words of Amare Phenomenal what do you think?
Pat Ewing could help Amare and Tyson, for sure. But when I spoke to him over the summer, his goal is to be a head coach.
How far will the Knicks get in the post season this year?
On paper, they have what it takes to reach the Eastern Conference finals. Two offensive stars and a deep defensive group.
How much does the addition of Andrew Bynum elevate the Sixers in the East?
Elevates them, but there's a young core around him, led by Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young. They don't have that one seasoned All-Star perimeter player, like a Melo. So I rank them below the Knicks, Celtics and Nets. Obviously the Heat holds the top spot.
Do you Think Carmelo Can Win Scoring Championship This Season?
No, Kevin Durant, once again. I think Amare will get back to playing well, therefore keeping Melo around 24, 25 points per game. Durant will be around 28 or so.
Do you go for Josh Howard or k-mart?...I say howard in the event melo gets hurt he can score plus melo can always back up amare at the 4.
K-Mart. Howard has had knee issues. I don't like the gamble.
how many points do u think j.r smith , melo, Amare will each average this season
Smith = Around 11, 12. Melo = 24, 25. Amare = Around 20, maybe even 22 if all goes well.
I feel like Carmelo witnessing LeBron's summer of success was the best thing so far because now it will give him that extra motivation to keep up with his best friend, what do you think? Also, around how many wins do you think the Knicks should finish with?
Melo is always motivated. Don't forget LeBron went to the Finals two times before. I think the question with Melo is: can he become a better and more consistent team player who improves the play of others around him? I think the Knicks' win range will be 48 to 55.
How effective do u see Amare as a post scorer this season. I just dont see his game translating well in the post
Kobe, D-Howard and LeBron all came back the following season with proven new skills in the post. That's a credit to Olajuwon. So I think Amare will show some new things down low. He has good footwork and quickness, which are some of the basics for having a solid post game.
Does James White Have A Chance To Be In The Dunk Contest And Does Steve Novak Have A Chance To Be In The 3 Point ShootOut For Allstar weekend ?
The dunk contest now has the age limit, so White won't qualify. As for Novak, absolutely. He finished last season with the league's highest 3-point percentage, so why not?
With the roster set how much better can this team be this year with a full camp and more cohesion with better players and a defensive minded coach plus Melo Amare and even Felton looking to prove people wrong about them
Much better. You said all the right things. Overall, a solid starting point guard, two offensive stars (Melo and Amare), several top defensive players (on the perimeter and interior) and one of the best coaches in the league in Mike Woodson all equal success. The Heat and Celtics are the Knicks' biggest challenges.
Any word on Melo's hamstring? He was saying it was tightening up on him during the Olympics.
That was a day-to-day thing. Nothing serious.
This talk about Lebron being comparable to MJ is ridiculous. Don't people just need to ask Knick fans if they have any doubts as to who is the G.O.A.T?
Sports without debates over player comparisons will never go away. No matter how many times you hear a debate discussing the same topic, people will still listen. But MJ was the GOAT. End of story.
I really liked Scott Machado coming out of college and he played really well in the Vegas Summer League. Can you see the Knicks inviting him to training camp?
The Knicks have plenty of point guards at this point. Don't see that happening.
can Felton play lock down defense on Steve Nash?
Who really can play lockdown defense on Nash? The dude, even at 38, is very elusive and still one of the best point guards in the league. Plus, it's not about individual defense. The best coaches will tell you it's about all five guys guarding the ball; not just one.
