Chat with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (4:00 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!

David (RI)

Hey KC.....risk starting Stafford over Rodgers this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

Sorry about that, had a system freeze up. Let's try this again!

KC Joyner
  (4:06 PM)

Stafford and Rodgers are both rated as absolute must starts on this week's TFS start-sit charts, but Stafford actually has a slight edge in matchup points. Not crazy to consider starting him.

D$ (Wisco)

Risk Lynch playing or roll with K Smith? PPR...

KC Joyner
  (4:07 PM)

Smith. Would stay away from starting Lynch if at all possible.

Dan (Ny)

Is MJD back to being a blue rated player?

KC Joyner
  (4:07 PM)

Not when his team says he will be a 3rd down back for this week. Right now he is a yellow-rated player, but he'll move back up to at least green as soon as it is clear he is back to being the bell cow.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Got a blockbuster offer on teh table ..would you trade Ray Rice to acquire Peterson and DMC in a .5 PPR? Keeper too, I feel like taking the risk...

KC Joyner
  (4:08 PM)

Take the risk. That's way too much value to not pull the trigger on the trade.

Jason (Houston)

Being that J.Graham is a blue rated player would it be wise to grab him in the 2nd or 3rd round?

KC Joyner
  (4:09 PM)

Got the two blue-rated tight ends as 3rd round picks. Just can't quite put them into the 2nd round category for a variety of reasons.

Woody (Aspen, CO)

E. Royster over the Law-Firm this week due to matchup?

KC Joyner
  (4:10 PM)

Got BJGE rated higher on the start-sit charts. Just don't feel good about leaning on a Washington RB right now.

brian (de)

Was last night a fluky thing for Ogletree or will he be a guy you recommend adding for future weeks?

KC Joyner
  (4:10 PM)

Probably more fluky than anything. Giants secondary had some injuries and he benefitted from that.

Al (Wisconsin)

To the guy deciding between starting Stafford or Rodgers - that must be a fun league with like 4 teams - ;)

KC Joyner
  (4:11 PM)

If a team owner has both of those QBs, there is definitely an imbalance in that league's power structure.

Jack (NJ)

Benson or Turbin this week, assuming Lynch is limited, but not out (0.5 PPR)?

KC Joyner
  (4:12 PM)

Benson. Really like what he can do in that offense. He's got a yellow rating right now but it would not be a surprise to see him move to a green rating shortly.

Phil Elliott (North Dallas Forty)

In NonPPR--Who do you like more as a FLEX start Wk1--Maclin @ Browns OR Ridley @ Titans? Thx!

KC Joyner
  (4:13 PM)

Poot, got Maclin rated much higher on the TFS start-sit charts.

KC Joyner
  (4:13 PM)

Quick note - more info about the start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Only site plug of the chat.

James (A Giant Peach)

What's your take on Stevie J's groin injury?

KC Joyner
  (4:13 PM)

Got him rated 40th on the WR charts. Just not trusting where he is right now.

Little Jimmy (Georgia)

A lot of Turner bashing or low expectations for this year - what do you think?

KC Joyner
  (4:14 PM)

My kids get a kick out of R-Truth. The Falcons have an incredibly favorable run D schedule, so I'm on the Turner bandwagon.

Kevin (FL)

T/F - Torry Smith will be a top 15 WR this season.

KC Joyner
  (4:15 PM)

F. Would vote for a top 20-25 level for him.

Alex (Palm Harbor)

Will Locker or Dalton have more points at the end of the season?

KC Joyner
  (4:15 PM)

Locker. He's got more weapons.

Jordan (Iowa)

T/F - Reggie Bush CAN be a top 5 RB this year.

KC Joyner
  (4:16 PM)

Have to vote F because of the state of the Dolphins offense.

Robert Turbin (Seattle)

some analysts say I'm going to be huge this year. You believe?

KC Joyner
  (4:16 PM)

Depends on how Lynch responds if Turbin starts taking away PT. If Lynch steps his game up, Turbin will be a good change of pace but not much more.

Ryan (Germantown, MD)

Hey KC, Insider is recommending I sit Peyton Hillis and start Doug Baldwin at flex. Good move?

KC Joyner
  (4:18 PM)

I've got Hillis rated higher because I just don't trust the Seattle passing game that much.

Marcus (Hotlanta)

D/ST this weekend? Happen to have both CHI and SEA.

KC Joyner
  (4:18 PM)

Stockpiling good defenses - interesting! They are both listed as must starts and have identical matchup rankings, so it's really flip a coin.

KC Joyner
  (4:19 PM)

Maybe take Chicago because they are home.

Jeff (Oakland)

Trent Richardson or Reggie Wayne at Flex?

KC Joyner
  (4:19 PM)

Trent rates much higher on the start-sit charts.

Biker guy in dome (Minnesota)

Tell me AP will give us something to cheer about this year?

KC Joyner
  (4:20 PM)

It might take until week 3 or 4 but he'll be back to the classic AP soon enough. He was a steal in many draft rooms.

Tommy (Philly)

Another Trent question: Richardson or Brandon Lloyd at the flex? Standard League.

KC Joyner
  (4:21 PM)

Tough call, as they are both listed as must starts. Would probably say Lloyd if only because of Richardson's knee.

Matt (MD)

I ended up with Peyton Manning and Cam Newton. I want to trade one but don't feel I'm getting fair value. I need a RB...Should I wait and see if there are injuries or unload one now?

KC Joyner
  (4:22 PM)

Did an article this week for Insider that reviewed how Peyton might struggle early on but will get a lot better as the season progresses. You may have to wait a bit if he's the QB to be traded.

James (A Giant Peach)

Will Michael Floyd be fantasy-relevant this year?

KC Joyner
  (4:22 PM)

He had a subpar 2011 college season and hasn't impressed in the preseason. Would lean towards limited fantasy relevance for him.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

So you don't think T-Rich will be on a "pitch count"? Only get 12-15 touches?

KC Joyner
  (4:23 PM)

If he's healthy enough to go, Cleveland will likely use him as a bell cow. That's the gut instinct.

Jason (Attleboro MA)

Thoughts on R. Jennings this week? Good flex?

KC Joyner
  (4:24 PM)

It might take until week 3 or 4 but he'll be back to the classic AP soon enough. He was a steal in many draft rooms.

KC Joyner
  (4:24 PM)

It might take until week 3 or 4 but he'll be back to the classic AP soon enough. He was a steal in many draft rooms.

KC Joyner
  (4:25 PM)

Got him rated as a good/very good start. According to the start grade points system in the start-sit charts, that puts him as a solid flex but there may be better candidates on a squad.

Shawn D (Detroit)

How do Garcon and Malcolm Floyd compare this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:26 PM)

Floyd is rated one point higher than Garcon. Not a slam dunk that he'll be better but the odds are on his side.

Joseph (Princeton)

Another T Richardson question. 0.5 PPR. Kevin smith over him this week, right? I mean we know Smith is an injury waiting to happen...but the rams!

KC Joyner
  (4:27 PM)

If only this were the 2011 Rams. Got Richardson rated higher but he does have a risk factor. The PPR also could favor Smith, so this would not be a bad move.

Matt (Steinway)

Thoughts on Bradshaw yesterday? Didn't look great but wiht Wilson getting the early fumble he's looking like a true bell cow and will get all the goal line looks. Did I luck in to a steal in my flex spot?

KC Joyner
  (4:28 PM)

Wilson could not have picked a worse time to fumble, as that is now the first impression he is going to have to fight through. Look for him to do that soon enough but for now the Bradshaw pick does look like a steal.

Alex (Boston)

Do you buy the reports that Lloyd and Brady aren't on the same page?

KC Joyner
  (4:29 PM)

Nope. Have seen too many reports that they have been in synch many more times than not. And this isn't an Ochocinco situation, as Lloyd knows the McDaniels offense.

Jalky (Dodgeville MI)

Pick up Turbin? If I drop Jacquizz and K Hunter I could take him in both leagues. Or just keep what I got as RB5?

KC Joyner
  (4:30 PM)

The upside on Turbin looks to be higher than the upside for Rodgers. Would probably drop Jacquizz for Turbin based on that.

Rags (NYC)

NO MORE T-RICH QUESTIONS JEEZ. I've got a classic Defense vs QB dilemma here! Will you not provide succor, man?!?Denver? Big Ben? Pats or Falcons are also available? HELP?!?

KC Joyner
  (4:30 PM)

Looks like we've got some T-Rich fatigue here! Falcons D would be the call.

KING Kevin (Fandom)

Russell Wilson. He has a good shot to be a solid QB1 in FF leagues. If you disagree now just admit you didn't see him coming like others did. I have him as my backup to Stafford in Dynasty League.

KC Joyner
  (4:31 PM)

I'll disagree. Wilson has low-end QB2 value but that offense doesn't have enough weapons to give him higher value. And last year's performance at Wisconsin had as much to do with the Badgers great offense as it did Wilson.

Jimmy McNulty (Baltimore, MD)

I got Chicago Defense. But am really considering dropping to start Buffalo or Detroit. Thoughts?

KC Joyner
  (4:32 PM)

Don't drop the Bears D - they ranked second among D/ST in the TFS Draft Guide. Can't replace that kind of value on waivers.

Mike Vick (NFC CHAMPS)

My play this year is going to take the Eagles to the Super Bowl???

KC Joyner
  (4:33 PM)

Got the Eagles winning the NFC East but not the Super Bowl.

Ryan (Columbus)

What are your thoughts on Pittsburgh running backs this weekend? Are any startable? Or should all be avoided?

KC Joyner
  (4:33 PM)

Got heartburn just thinking about the Steelers RB situation. Would avoid that if at all possible.

Keith (VA)

Matt Ryan or Vick week 1?

KC Joyner
  (4:34 PM)

Got them both as must starts, but have Ryan with the better matchup points total. Start him.

Mariah (Carey)

Does anyone else play my song Fantasy while they set their lineups?

KC Joyner
  (4:35 PM)

Don't know about everyone else, but the TFS preference is Rage Against The Machine or Linkin Park.

Willy (Montreal)

Desperation play. Cobb or Alshon?

KC Joyner
  (4:36 PM)

Cobb. Go with the better offense.

John (Hartford, CT)

KC- are you saying that the Mariah/No Doubt concert didn't get you ready for some football???

KC Joyner
  (4:37 PM)

Yeah, that wouldn't have been the TFS choice for pregame festivities. Maybe some Metallica instead.

Garfield (Napping)

Is Anquan still reliabable? Start him or Blackmon? Rookie wide receivers make me more nervous than a room full of rocking chairs.

KC Joyner
  (4:38 PM)

Got Boldin rated just a bit higher than Blackmon on the TFS start-sit charts. Now go have some lasagna!

Earth Wind (and Fire)

How about our song Fantasy? Very groovy!

KC Joyner
  (4:38 PM)

That's cool - always like a good 70s groove!

Tom (Calif)

TFS - Can Matt Ryan deliver top 5 QB performance in his newly installed pass friendly offense?

KC Joyner
  (4:39 PM)

He sure can. Ryan isn't far from being a blue-rated QB.

Wally Joyner (Family Reunion)

Took one on the chin last night playing against Romo & Austin. Going bald and can't risk pulling my hair out anymore. Need to start 2 out of these 3 w/ Megatron. Lloyd, Jordy, or A Brown?

KC Joyner
  (4:40 PM)

Got all three as must start candidates but Lloyd and Jordy have more upside, so they'd get the nod.

The Man (NM)

PPR Flex Maclin which is a green rated player or Amendola whos yellow rated but green rated in ppr?

KC Joyner
  (4:41 PM)

PPR makes up some ground but Maclin still gets the nod.

Chris (Chicago )

Odds Hillis is a RB2 by mid season?

KC Joyner
  (4:41 PM)

Hillis will be an RB by week 3 or 4. That's going to be a pure platoon backfield.

Nick (Chicago)

Thoughts on Dez Bryant for the year? Targeted him, and love his upside, but he just never seems to have that breakout game.

KC Joyner
  (4:42 PM)

He was on the border of the green/yellow rating in the TFS Draft Guide. Just can't get fully on board with someone with that many question marks.

Dave (DC)

Can Jamaal Charles repeat his numbers from 2010?

KC Joyner
  (4:43 PM)

He had only 230 carries that season and could very well match that total even in a pure platoon situation, so it is possible.

Dan (VA)

1) you just told that guy to sit megatron??2) Peyton or RG3 this week? 6 pt passing td league.

KC Joyner
  (4:44 PM)

Check out the question - it was 2 out of 3 besides Megatron. Got Peyton ranked higher.

Benny (Big Easy)

Are you worried about Mike Wallace snap count?

KC Joyner
  (4:44 PM)

Nope. Ben is great at ad libbing so even if Wallace is a bit behind in the playbook (and that may not be the case), Ben will still find a way to hit him with a big pass or two.

Senator Jon McCain (Arizona)

Early steal of the year candidate: Just dealt Ben Tate to Arian Foster owner for Julio Jones. I am still laughing here.

KC Joyner
  (4:45 PM)

Is this considered a humblebrag?

Pete (DC)

any chance Tamme repeats 2010 chemistry with Peyton?

KC Joyner
  (4:46 PM)

Sure. Big difference will be that Denver won't throw 600 passes like Indy did that year.

Andy Roddick (Flushing)

Now that I'm retired, I can spend all my time in bed with Brooklyn and reading fantasy football chats. Need to drop one, PPR. Robert Turbin, Ryan Williams, Austin Collie, Brandon LaFell

KC Joyner
  (4:47 PM)

Andy Roddick has the life. Turbin would be the one to drop for now value but if you are willing to play for upside, drop Collie and hope Turbin takes PT from Lynch.

Mike (NY)

KC, If I am reading your weekly matchup rankings for week 1 you would have Lafell the highest from a list of Wright, Denarious Moore and Lafell? Correct?

KC Joyner
  (4:47 PM)

That would be correct. Like LaFell's chances.

John (Boston)

Hi KC - I know you were swimming against the stream on Brian Waters last year (FYI - my eyes told me almost the same thing - clearly overrated), but what are your thoughts on thye Patriots offensive line this year? For years it was a strength, but now it appears to be a major weakness. Do you agree? Thanks

KC Joyner
  (4:49 PM)

Pats O line is having some issues but the combination of good coaching and good playcalling (including adjustments by Brady) will overcome that weakness until the O line can gel as the season progresses.

KC Masterpiece (KFC, Kentucky)

I'm pretty sure i'm the cooler KC.

KC Joyner
  (4:49 PM)

Hey, I'm a KC Masterpiece fan. Good stuff. Need to buy some of JR's BBQ sauce to compare the two.

Macho Man Stan Regardo (Seattle)

What are your expectations from Mark Ingram this season?

KC Joyner
  (4:50 PM)

The kids are just now getting to see some of Macho Man's matches - OOOOOOO YYYYYEEEAAAAHHHH!!! Got Ingram as a good RB2 who could push to upper end RB2 value.

Mike (Chicago)

KC bought your Sit/Start service and was wondering about Flex rankings. Do you play Green-rated WR over yellow-rated RB?

KC Joyner
  (4:51 PM)

Generally speaking that is the case, but use the start points value as the true guide. If that is equal, the green-rated player should get the nod.

Hilary (NYC)

Where can we find your weekly rankings?

KC Joyner
  (4:52 PM)

Check out the chat summary.

RIP Art ((ohio))

Is Turbin a must acquisition for Lynch owners?

KC Joyner
  (4:53 PM)

Agree on RIP to Modell. He was a controversial figure in many ways but he was hands down one of the biggest fans the NFL has ever had (and I mean that in the best sense).

Ryan F. (Tulsa, OK)

Found Dr. Pepper marinade once in MO. It was INCREDIBLE.

KC Joyner
  (4:53 PM)

That does sound interesting...

Rock (Squared Circle)

It doesn't matter what your answer is! Well, it kind of does - lol - D.Martin or Ridley as RB2?

KC Joyner
  (4:55 PM)

My kids LOVE The Rock. To quote Mick Foley as Mankind - Know your mouth and shut your role! Got Martin rated much higher on the start-sit charts.

Thomas (Charlotte)

Better off their suspension: Britt or Leshoure?

KC Joyner
  (4:55 PM)

Britt.

Dr Pepper (Not for meat-tenderization)

What's your view of Gore this year? Solid RB2, or more of a flex?

KC Joyner
  (4:56 PM)

Yeah, it did sound interesting but at the same time kind of frightening. Got Gore as a solid RB2 with low-end RB1 potential.

Denny (Madison)

Do you think Issac Redman will be a decent option this year or should I look at Isiah Peed

KC Joyner
  (4:57 PM)

Redman's injury is too much of a concern, and that is before factoring in the other issues. Pead is the choice.

Joe (NY)

KC - Loved the Draft Guide!! - when things didn't go as expected, I was able to calmly react and grab value. Ended up with Romo, Schaub, CJ2K, Fred Jackson, Sproles, Hillis, Fitzgerald, Jennings, Garcon, & a few lottery picks. How'd I do?

KC Joyner
  (4:58 PM)

Glad you liked the guide! Really like the QB picks, like the depth at RB (and am sold on CJ2K) and the top two WRs are top notch. Barring injuries, that should be a very competitive team.

Shawn Michaels (Everywhere)

Is Jared Cook gonna give the Patriots a little chin music this weekend?

KC Joyner
  (5:00 PM)

Michaels is my eldest son's favorite wrestler. Just hope he doesn't get in trouble in school by giving someone the DX chop. Got Cook ranked 8th on the start-sit charts, so like his odds of hitting that finishing move.

Austin Collie (Indy)

Apparently I got downgraded to limited participation and there is no timetable for my return. I'm droppable, right? Even if I start a game, my owner has to worry that I'll finish it.

KC Joyner
  (5:01 PM)

Collie has value but the overwhelming injury concerns mean he should not be kept over someone with relatively equal value who doesn't have injury concerns.

Steve (LA)

Would you drop Kendall Wright for Brandon LaFell?

KC Joyner
  (5:02 PM)

Yep. Wright is good but LaFell is as good and will likely get 100 targets this year (a number Wright likely won't get to).

John (Los Angeles)

So Isaiah Pead holds off Daryl Richardson as StL's RB2/#1-in-waiting?

KC Joyner
  (5:03 PM)

That's the thought here. At the very least, it might be a split backfield situation if Jackson gets hurt.

Nate (NJ)

How much confidence in Cruz did you loose last night? Is Bennet the bigger story?

KC Joyner
  (5:03 PM)

Not much. Even the best players have an off night now and again.

Johnny Five (Seattle)

Continue to roster both Steve Smith and LaFell? Get rid of one via trade? Surely there wouldn't be a time where I'd want to start both, right?

KC Joyner
  (5:04 PM)

LaFell has a very good shot at developing into a quality starting WR. Unless the trade value is commensurate (and Smith would be the only one right now drawing much in the way of trade value), don't make a move.

Santa (North Pole)

Rest of Year - Witten or Rudolph

KC Joyner
  (5:05 PM)

Witten. Rudolph could end up splitting targets with Carlson.

KC Joyner
  (5:06 PM)

Well, it's been a very fun hour (the kids got a kick out of all of the in-chat references) but it's just about time for dinner. Quick notes - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. More info about the start-sit charts (and the Draft Guide for those having very late drafts) can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Thanks for the questions and I hope to see you all here next week!
