Good morning, gang! We've got another 60 minutes of fantasy chattage up ahead. Second cup of coffee in hand. Who is up first?
Is the Pats D turning it around this year or were the Titans just that bad?
A general rule of thumb for fantasy football. Don't put *too much* stock into Week 1. The truth is that nothing becomes a trend until we have at least three data points. That said, I wouldn't worry about sitting teams facing Tennessee.
Is Ryan Mathews a must-start this week if he starts?
Obviously, this depends on what else you have. My feeling is that if in doubt, sit 'em out, especially after a severe injury.
Should I expect a bounce back week from Vick (and philly's offense in general? I have Maclin Mccoy and vick all on my fantasy team...yikes!
Which is why you don't double- or triple-dip. Maclin is a bit worrisome, since we're not 100 percent sure he plays and Avant got banged up as well. Vick might not have a lot of WR options. Shady's the only one I feel really comfortable with today.
Everyone seems to be worried about Welker except me. 4 points projected this week against Ari? Really? Should I be worried?
The thing with Welker is that he's never a red zone target. So you're dealing with hoping for 7-9 catches versus 4-6. Not so much a worry after Week 1, but just a realistic view of things.
What are your thoughts on Doug Martin?
Carolina had one of the worst run defenses last season. Martin should have done well. Let's see how he does against NYG... I expect it will be worth a start.
M. Turner had 11 carries while J. Rodgers had 7 carries and a reception. Do you see this as more of a timeshare than anticipated? Rodgers seems to fit more with what Atlanta is trying to do.
Up 17 in the second half, why would any team NOT rest their RB1. Don't read too much into it.
People are going crazy for Ogletree but I have Alfred Morris on my radar. How do you feel about his potential going forward?
It's a bit much on the Ogletree love. In the first half, NYG looked good on defense, but got tired as game went on -- which was expected on a rare Wednesday kickoff. Plus, they lost several defenders to injuries. Ogletree had a great day, no doubt... but it was more a fluke than not. Morris, even with the Shanahan factor, will be more valuable in fantasy.
FOLLOW UP TO RICKY'S QUESTION- How much of a $100 FAAB would you spend on Morris?
Been asked this a lot... with FAAB, you're playing poker. What does your league usually spend? How deep is it? How many people need RB? Is Dwyer also there and can be had for $2-3 while everyone else bids $70 on Morris and Spiller? There's no real answer...
Pick 2 - Harvin, Antonio Brown and Michael Bush. Thanks!
Bush is essentially a vulture, and as such, VERY volatile. Much better to go with consistent touches of the other two...
Week 2 starting RB for the steelers will be?
Dwyer with Mendenhall worked in if ready.
Would you ever recommend claiming someone just for the purpose of trading him? I don't need either Morris or Ogletree, but I've got first priority so I can have either of them. The trouble is if I don't find a trading partner, then I've burned my priority for a bench player...
It's just wise strategy. Even if you don't end up trading, in the first 2-3 weeks, you're probably making your team better by using all waiver options at your disposal.
I dont understand why Falcons and Broncos offensive players arent projected as high this week.. that game should be pass heavy next Monday, dont you think?
Just because you think two teams will each throw 50 times doesn't mean they'll find success - and one week does not establish a team's style of play.
True or False: Roddy White < Anquan Boldin
Not even close. Anquan not in same league.
Who's the odd man out for week 2: DMC, Marshawn, Law Firm, Spiller?
I'd get my retainer back from the Lawfirm.
QB DILEMMA!! = Here in Wk 2 would you start-- RG3 @ the Rams OR Eli Manning vs. Tampa Bay? Thanks!
RG3 looked great in Week 1, but it's just one week. I'll take Eli and see how the rookie handles Jeff Fisher's gameplanning.
A scorned manager in my fantasy baseball league is dropping all "non-droppable" players. How would you approach this as the commish? Our league allows 5 player adds for each week.
If you allow only 5 player adds, you should allow only 5 player drops for one,.preventing such a move in the first place. I'd restore the players to the roster and lock it for remainder of season if he attempted a spiteful wholesale purge.
You buying Coby Fleener or Pitta? Worth trying over the likes of Fred Davis?
Pitta is not the only TE in Baltimore, so some weeks it may be Dickson who gets the catches. Fleener on the other hand is a fantasy owner's dream. I love TEs on passing teams with younger QBs. But of course, Davis is in similar boat. Not swapping out.
ARE Kenny Britt or Rashard Mendenhall startable this week?
I'd wait on both. For Mendy, I just think Pitt will be cautious. With Britt, he may have to deal with two different QBs during the course of the game. Timing is already going to be an issue.
How about Stephen Hill? Prefer him as a WW pickup over Ogletree or LaFell?
I would not. Jets score 48 points but Sanchez and the offense looks kind of ordinary, if you ask me. I'd rather go with what I still feel are better offenses.
Is Deangelo Williams just a drop at this point? And same question about Ronnie Brown. Thank you
Not hardly. Can't blame him just because the Panthers opted to ditch the run entirely. Brown on the other hand had no real value before Ryan Mathews got hurt - no reason to keep him with the return imminent.
How do you feel about ROS production out of D.Ammendola vs A. Jeffery? Think they continue to get a lot of targets?
Absolutely. Targets is far more of a tell this time of the year than receptions/yards. Look to see trends in who a QB (coach) trusts and you'll know where the true potential lies.
ROS: Finley vs V. Davis. Want to deal one. Which would fetch me more?
Nobody can answer this but the person willing to make the deal with you. I value Davis more, but other owners may differ. Why not simply advertise you're willing to trade one of them and let the offers come?
Was my performance last night caused more by my role in the offense or J Ford and D Moore not playing?
Streater earned the start because of how well he played in preseason, but would not have been as involved from the get go without the injuries. I think he probably still gets more action than Jacoby going forward, but Moore takes over opposite DHB this week.
Is Spiller a must-start in the RB2 spot this week?
Spiller should easily be an RB1 this week, IMO.
AJ, I am a lil worried about Trent Richardson, should I start him against the Bengals or go with the hot man in Washington Morris..? thanks
This is why I was so down on Trent in the preseason. The offense, as a whole, doesn't work in Cleveland. I'd feel better starting Beanie Wells in Week 2 than Trent.
I have the 4th pick of the waivers in a 12 team league. Should I pick up one of the hot guys this week or wait a week, get the number one waiver slot and see who is more consistant?
I've never understood the "hold on to No.1" philosophy in terms of waiver priority. If you need help, you make a pickup. If you don't, you can pass. You never wait based solely on hoping something better comes along later on.
Can you give me a trendy likely unowned D/ST pick this week?
Oakland and St. Louis?
Should Vick owners freak out and immediately trade for a top 12 backup?
I would not freak out, but if I had drafted Vick I would have already made sure to have a solid backup just in case. It never hurts to have a good QB2.
drop r. Moss or Jon Baldwin for Cobb or Ogletree in ppr?
I'd try and trade Moss while the value is high... Baldwin won't do much I fear this year. He can go.
You like St. L's D vs. RGIII?? Can you expand on why?
Because they did a pretty good job against Stafford, all things considered and have a coaching staff that should be able to gameplan for RG3 a whole lot better than did "Fill in the Blank" coach in NO.
People need to read "How Fantasy Sports Explains the World"!!!I know we've only gotten through week 1 but I was thinking of dropping F. Davis for H. Miller as my TE, Miller had more targets...would you do it or hold still?
You answered your own question... it's been one week. Don't make knee-jerk changes. Unless injuries have hit you a la Fred Jackson, you don't panic.
INSERT SHAMELESS PLUG FOR YOUR BOOK. Is the Lions D really that bad? Was hoping for big things against St. Louis. Roll w/ OAK against MIA instead this week?
What was bad? A pick-six isn't the defense's fault. Bradford threw for under 200 yards. They sacked him three times...
Peterson, Ridley, McCoy - can only start 2?
A good problem to have. I'd sit Ridley.
Seattle D overrated? ESPN was pimping them hard....
Again, not sure what games you were watching. Did Arizona get 400 yards of total offense and score 40?
Gerhart droppable with AP's strong return?
I don't drop just to drop, and it's always a good idea to keep handcuffs around... but yes, Toby is droppable.
Safe to play any D/ST facing the Browns?
For the immediate future, I'd certainly not shy away from any team facing Cleveland.
I know you said knee jerk reactions are frowned upon in this chat, but are you significantly higher or lower on any players after week 1?
Sure. Flacco looks like a different QB, for example. Disappointed with DeAngelo. There are players who under- and overwhelmed, but generally speaking... repeat after me. It's just one game.
Better backup QB: Fitzpatrick or Sanchez?
Overall, I say Sanchez... but it's not a slam dunk call.
You say only one game, but Chris Johnson has been bad for a year plus one game
Sure... that's not the same thing. There is concern there given the past season, but they were also down 21-3 at the half and that doesn't lend itself to a ground game picking up second-half steam.
Worried about Nicks at all? Eli LOVES Victor. Am I crazy for considering the safety of Wayne over the upside of Nicks?
Not crazy, though I think Nicks outperforms Wayne this week. I think Eli will love Victor less and less of he continue to drop passes... but there's enough for the two to both have solid days.
That's the final whistle, gang! Thanks to all for your Q's. We'll be back next week for another hour of fantasy goodness. Until then, there's twitter (@ajmass) and as always... make it work, designers!
