Chat with Bill Williamson

Bil Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Brett (Mississippi)

Manning and Co. were solid, the Chiefs were obliterated by the Matt Ryan, and the Chargers had to rely on field goals to beat an injury prone Raiders team that couldn't even get a special teams snap right. I know its week one but is there really any way the Broncos don't win this division?

Bil Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Sure, it's just one week. Lots of time to go.

CC (Atlanta)

Chiefs got blasted by ATL. Is Denver next?

Bil Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

The Broncos' defense is in better shape than the Chiefs' defense was. I think it will be closer.

Justin (The Bay)

How big of impact to you see Denarius Moore having this week and for the season? Is he the clear go to WR in Oaktown

Bil Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Uneolss there is asebtack, we shoudls ee him against Miami.

andy c (lincoln ne)

where did jon baldwin disappear to in last weeks game.....it seemed like he barely saw the field?

Bil Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Yes, that was a little interesting. He has to make an impact. Let's see if he plays much Sunday at Buffalo.

Jacob Clark (Iowa)

Whats the odds that Flowers comes back this week, and when will Lewis, and Torbio coming back, in your opinion?

Bil Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

I'd think Flowers will play. Leiws and Toribio are on the mend and we may see them in the next few weeks.

Mark (Toronto)

Surely no one will admit it, but how much do the Raiders regret cutting Van Dyke right now? (Apologies for calling you Shirley.)

Bil Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

O)r traidng Louis Murphy.

Jason (Toronto, Canada)

Hey Bill,I've been reading a lot about how the Raiders D impressed on Monday night, but from my watching, I saw more mistakes by Rivers than great coverage by the Raiders. I found their lack of sacks, picks and pass defenses very discouraging. Did you see anything that would indicate the potential to be a top 5 defence?

Bil Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Oakland was stout in the red zone. That is a good sign. I would have liked to see a better pass rush, especially against an undrafted rookie LT in his first game, but there were some good signs.

Bill's Ulcer (Stomach)

What concerns you most about AFCW games this week?

Bil Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Denver: Atlanta's Passing offense.KC: Putting together a better defensive effort.Oak: Pushing the ball downfield.SD: Finishing dirves with touchdowns.

Mark (Toronto)

It's early, but with Pittsburgh and Denver on the docket, is this Sunday a must win for Oakland?

Bil Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

It's a winnable gmae with two tough games coming up, so, yes, the Raiders better get it done. It's not the end of the world if the Raiders don't win, but being 0-2 with Pittburgh and Denver coming up wouldn't be a great thing.

Ryan (Council Bluffs, IA)

Given the issues Oakland has had with Special Teams and what seemed to me to be a very conservative offense, absent a complete 180 does Oakland see new coordinators in those positions next season?

Bil Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

The Raiders need stability on the staff. I think Dennis Allen will keep going forward with most of his staff unless there is a complete disaster.

Trevor (Saratoga, NY)

Are Champ and Tracy Porter one of the best CB tandems in the NFL? Or do you think they will be by the end of the season?

Bil Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

I'd have to think about it more, but it can be an upper-levle CB tandem for sure.

Tyler (Hamilton, ON)

I saw your article on Derek Wolfe, and as a Bronco fan I love what I see. Is there any chance the DROY comes from the Broncos 2 years in a row?

Bil Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Well, if the kid plays like he did on Sunday night, he will be in the mix. He was outstanding in that game.

Andrew (KC)

I think week 1 was an aberration for my Chiefs due to a number of reasons (Flowers, Lewis, Hali and Toribo out and DJ and Belcher playing hurt). Do you see a bounce back this week against Buffalo?

Bil Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

They are not going to be all the way back, but I do think we will see a better defensive effort by the Chiefs this week.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

Hi Bill, will Philip Rivers actually get to play game manager and play to his defense this season, its one game, but adding players like Ingram, Reyes, Johnson, Bigby and others, sure looks like they are and above average defense, with potential to be very good?

Bil Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

He is more of a manager, but without a running game I thought he adjusted very well. Rivers did what it took to win the game.

Corey (D.C.)

Do you think the Raiders starting QB for 2013 is on the roster?

Bil Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

I think we'll find out that answer later in the season. If Palmer struggles and the Raiders win 4-5 games, perhaps there will be a change.

Gil (Utah)

Hey any more news on Mcclain? He had a solid game on Monday if he's out that has to hurt the Raider D....

Bil Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

He missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury. I think he is day-to-day.

Bill (Bellingham)

Oakland's OC Knapp has to be feeling the heat ... should Raiders fans be worried after Darren McFadden goes for just 2 yards per carry?

Bil Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Let's give it a month or so, before making a judgement.

Trevor (Saratoga, NY)

Any chance D.J. Williams stays with the Broncos after this season?

Bil Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Just my guess: No chance.

Tony (Wichita)

Do you see the Chiefs problems as fixable? I'm starting to think Pioli has not gotten it done, and my team may be starting over again real soon.

Bil Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

If the problems perist once the team gets healthy, then it will be an issue. But let's see what happens when the defense gets its health back.

McNutty (Seattle)

Chances that Cassell is in his last year in KC?

Bil Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

See the Palmer answer. Exact same deal.

Trevor (Saratoga, NY)

Will Demaryius Thomas be a top 10 receiver by the end of the year?

Bil Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

If you look at his numbers from Week 13 last season, he has been a top level receiver. He is coming on and having Manning on his side wil not hurt his development.

Bryan (41510)

Can we blame the raiders loss on the Head coach or the oc?

Bil Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

The staff as a whole.

Derek (Springfield, MO)

How sturdy was San Diego's rookie undrafted free agent LT during the Oakland game? I know he didn't give up a sack, is he the short term solution till Gaither gets back?

Bil Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I was really impressed by that kid. What a tough job he had, I thought it would be a disaster, but it wasn't. They need Gaither back, but Harris deserves credit for the job he did.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

Hi Bill, when can we expect Ryan Mathews back, they will surely need him versus the Falcons? Will the running game improve enough to be competitive with Mathews I saw basically no holes versus the Raiders?

Bil Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

The fact that Mathews didn't practice Wednesday is not a good sign he will play agaisnt the Titans. I'd think he should be ready in Week 3.

Rick (Marina, ca)

Hey Bill I wasnt to impressed with the charger offense, red zone troubles again, its very frustrating, I am not sold on the reciever corps, I hear how great Floyd cathces everything in camp but doesn't do much in games and Meachum don't seem to scare nobody and I thought Royal will be huge in the slot and they couldn't get nothing vs a poor raider secondary espeeially their corners.

Bil Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Yeah, all of those guys have to kick it into the enxt gear. The Brown injury is going to hurt. And Gates must stay healthy.

Bryan (41510)

The Raiders are relying on DMac too much he might get injured again... Which receiver can step it up now!? DHB didn't look to good

Bil Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

Yes, 28 touches is too much for McFadden. Things will change when Moore gets back. They won't have to rely on the short passes as much. Brando Myers could help as well. He did a nice job of stretching the field.

Gil (Utah)

With Jacoby out the Raider have to call T.O. or OchoCinco right? I know AL would have!

Bil Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Dennis Allen said he thinks the tema is OK at receiver, so unless there are some more injuries, I don't think we'll see Plax, Chad or T.O. in Oakland.

Kevin (Mile High)

When can we expect Hillman to be active on a gameday, the Broncs could really use his pop out of the backfield?

Bil Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

It depends on how comfortable the team is with Hillman in pass protection. But I do think he will see him sooner than later.

Jay (LV)

Were you surprised by how good Peyton looked? Was this just a lucky fluke, or can Denver fans feel confident that Peyton will play like he did in 2010? (Which was not, by the way, anywhere near as well as he played in 2004-2007!)

Bil Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Peyton Manning a lucky fluke?

Jeremy (PA)

Were you impressed with the way Burris played last week?

Bil Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

He made some plays in a tough spot.

Ryan (Tahoe City, CA)

Bill, who do you see starting on Oakland's O-line this week?

Bil Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Wiz was working with the first-team at cente,r so I think he is back.

Kevin (PA)

If John Condo is healthy all game, does Oakland win on Monday night?

Bil Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Condo doesn't play offense.

Alex (SD)

Any chance the Chargers look to the FA wire or possible trade for backup RB while Matthews is out? Obviously Brown and Brinkley are not capable of making plays in the running game

Bil Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

He is probably out just one more game and the Chargers haven't made a move, so my guess is no.

Kevin (Miami)

Even after Manning exceeded expectations, are you still picking the Cassel-led Chiefs to win the division? And which of the three AFC West teams you're predicting will make the playoffs do you see going furthest once they're there?

Bil Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Men don't change their picks after the fact.

Spock (Moon)

Bill, your last video blog sounded like you was a little annoyed at chief fans who complain about their Qb. Out of the afc west teams, is there a team or two (or fan base)that personally annoys you?

Bil Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

I was running on fumes after back-to-back night games and traveling. If I was annoyed it was for being awake.

Mark (Toronto)

Further to Trevor's questions, are Oakland's Spencer and Lee the worst CB tandem in the league?

Bil Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

It's not elite, thanks for sure.

Ceasar (SD)

I know Rivers played a pretty good game and most importantly had ZERO turnovers, but it seemed to me he was playing to cautious especially when the Chargers got into the red zone. Any worries there, or just 1 game?

Bil Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

I think the fact that he was cautious in the red zone is a good thing. he dindn't force anything. That is a sign of progress.

Gil (Utah)

I always get sick of that same 'ol stat about West Coast teams traveling to the East Coast and how much the time difference is a factor. But number are hard to deny! Any thought on this? And whether the Raiders will be affected or not this weekend. Especially coming off a short week

Bil Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

It's a real thing. It will be a challenge for the Raiders, no doubt.

Chris E (san diego, ca)

Bill, can you attribute Harris' success at LT because of Norv's gameplan, or because he really excelled that night?

Bil Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

He was protected a lot and Norv called a game to relefct the injuries. That is atribute to Norv. He knwos his offensive game plans.

Jason (Denver)

when will the Raiders give tyrrelle pryor a shot at starting, how long do they stick with Carson, and is it just a case of how much they traded for him?

Bil Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Do you really think thye'd be better off with Pryor than Palmer at thsi point?Pryor had oen good half in the preseason against a third-string defense. Not ripping the kid, but he isn';t ready.

Joe R (NY, NY)

Hey Bill, I would put the Broncos as the front runner for the division after week 1. I think that's fair. Who would you say is there biggest competition? None of the other three teams looked good, and the Chiefs looked surprisingly bad.

Bil Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Sna Diego's quarterback and defenseelooked good and they are banged up overall. It was a good night for the Chargers.

Bil Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, talk to you next week.Enjoy Week 2.
