Chat with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (3:00 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!

Jerry (SC)

Hey KC should I start Eli or Peyton this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:01 PM)

That was one of the toughest quandaries in putting together this week's TFS start-sit charts. Eli won because a) he's at home and b) Tampa's defense isn't as good as Atlanta's.

Tony (SF)

Hey KC, what're your thoughts on Sproles not getting any carries in week 1? Is there reason to worry, or just a symptom of getting down early?

KC Joyner
  (3:01 PM)

Symptom of getting down early. Nothing to worry about, especially since Ingram did such a terrible job of finding gaps.

John (Detroit)

whats your ale on the whole welker situation? Anything to be worried about?

KC Joyner
  (3:02 PM)

He dropped to 45th on this week's TFS WR start-sit charts, if that's any indication.

Bobby (Rochester, NY)

Do you believe Doug Martin is now a top 10 RB?

KC Joyner
  (3:03 PM)

Got him ranked 19th on this week's start-sit charts and have Martin on the precipice of a green rating (green indicating he is pretty much an every week start).

Mike (Milwaukee)

Alfred Morris: Hold or sell?

KC Joyner
  (3:03 PM)

Hold. The Shanahans are going to work him until he falls apart and fantasy owners should keep him in the lineup until that happens. Unless, of course, you get a monster trade offer.

Kevin (USA)

Would you drop Schaub for Flacco to back up Vick for the rest of the year?

KC Joyner
  (3:04 PM)

No. Flacco is improved but that MNF game said more about the state of the Bengals secondary than it did about Flacco.

Joe Six Pack (Ohio)

Who would be the better fantasy football manager, Obama or Romney?

KC Joyner
  (3:05 PM)

We don't do political talk here. Now, if you can work in a funny quote from a movie into the question, it will get moved to the front of the pack.

Jackson (Sarasota, FL)

Hey KC. Do ever see ESPN allowing for atleast one in-game sub or atleast an injury substitution in there fantasy football leagues? Seems like an injury sub would be part of the game by now or am i wrong?

KC Joyner
  (3:05 PM)

If there is enough fan interest in this sort of thing, it could happen.

stephen (los angeles)

bench vick for carson palmer this week? or am i over-thinking this one ...

KC Joyner
  (3:06 PM)

Vick made five bad decisions last week, so it isn't a matter of overthinking. Having said that, Vick does rate higher on the TFS start-sit QB charts, so he gets the nod.

Eddie (Hoboken, NJ)

If you do not answer my question, there will be MUCH suffering in Gilder!! KC, I am in a terrible pickle! I have Jennings whom I think is not going to play. Thus, I have to start 2 of the following: James Jones, DeSean Jackson, Peyton Hillis, Mike Williams. For this week what do I do?

KC Joyner
  (3:07 PM)

Jackson is a good start, so no worries there. Would suggest starting Jones if Jennings does not play.

Matt (Philly)

Which of these unowned defenses would you be most comfortable starting this week? NYG, DAL, OAK, SD, or WAS

KC Joyner
  (3:08 PM)

Dallas rates highest. Wilson looked like a rookie last week and his LT is hurting, so he could say hello to Ware a few times.

Brad (Delaware)

So your Alfred Morris answer would indicate that you think Helu and Royster still hold some value? I own both and live with constant headaches...

KC Joyner
  (3:09 PM)

Every Redskins pick should come with a season-long supply of Tylenol. Morris had a bad GBYPA on Sunday (see today's TFS article on the Redskins NFC East chances for more detail) and Helu/Royster both have posted quality figures in that metric in the past. They still have value.

John (Georgia)

KC - how sold are you on Matt Ryan ROS? I've got him and Peyton and I'm considering dealing the latter.

KC Joyner
  (3:10 PM)

Very sold. There was a time when he was being considered for the very rare blue rating and he might move up there soon.

Tim (SLC)

Patriots defense that good or is the Tennesee OLine that bad?

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

A bit of both but Tennessee also fell behind early and had to abandon the run game. The bigger concern for CJ is that the Titans didn't use any of the counter plays that he is so successful at. If OC Chris Palmer doesn't get back to them, that could be the thing that hinders CJ's value.

Devin Brooks (Detroit)

KC, You telling me that Alfred Morris should be starting! I just traded him last night for Michael turner, I thought I got the better end..

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

Long term you probably did.

Get Well Jerry Lawler (Montreal)

KCJ! Thought I'd miss the chat so I tweeted this to you earlier - Fitz/Welker/Harvin/Garcon? Pick two please. Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:12 PM)

Best wishes to The King. Let's hope he's back on screen yelling "PUPPIES" in the near future. Fitz and Harvin win out of that group.

MILLION dollar man (wildwood nj)

do you guys realize by the time you tell everyone to wait a week on a guy(when he strings 2 good games), he is already gone on waivers

KC Joyner
  (3:14 PM)

It's like Eric Karabell said this week - remember Frisman Jackson? There is a price to pay for being too early on a bad pick as well.

Marshall Erickson (MN)

How confident are you in AP for the rest of the season?

KC Joyner
  (3:14 PM)

Say hi to Lilly for me. Very confident in AP - moved him up to a blue rating for this week.

Shawn D (Detroit)

What are your feelings on Jonathon Stewart for the season? Carolina has to be better at the run than they showed last week.

KC Joyner
  (3:15 PM)

They sure can't get any worse. Stewart should be fine as long as health isn't an issue.

Rick (Raleigh)

what are your thoughts on Ogletreee ROS? I own LeShoure/Smith in Det. Who is best ROS?

KC Joyner
  (3:15 PM)

Got a concern that Ogletree's performance had as much to do with lousy coverage by NY as it did good performance by him. Smith would be the pick out of that group at the moment.

Brian Christopher (Memphis TN)

Where's Scotty 2 Hotty? What are your thoughts on Michael Turner's fantasy value?

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

Last item I read on the subject said he was in the hospital with his father. Turner's fantasy value will get better since the Falcons are still slated to face a ton of weak run defenses.

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

Last item I read on the subject said he was in the hospital with his father. Turner's fantasy value will get better since the Falcons are still slated to face a ton of weak run defenses.

Leaping Lanny Poffo (Top Buckle)

Did you learn anything from Trent Richardson's first NFL game? I know it's early, but was hoping for better. Is Weeden killing him?

KC Joyner
  (3:18 PM)

Hey, if you use a Leaping Lanny Poffo reference, you have to put the question into a poem format! Richardson did look a bit slowed by the injury and wasn't finding gaps in the defensive wall very well. Am thinking this will get better based on his history at Alabama (he displayed good recognition there).

Syd (Denver)

Props for picking up on that Marshall Erickson reference. Cobb or D.H-B at flex this weekend? Flex rankings put Cobb ahead (especially if Jennings sits), but ESPN point projections give edge to D.H-B. What say you? Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (3:19 PM)

Mrs. Scientist and I used to watch HIMYM all the time. Need to catch back up on some old episodes and just haven't had the time. The TFS rankings have Cobb rated higher.

Shane (Port Angeles, WA)

KC, Is Gore worth holding on to, or is he a sell "high"? What about trading Gore for Richardson?

KC Joyner
  (3:20 PM)

Keep Gore. That offense is going to be an underrated beast this year.

Virgil is Awesome! (the 1980s)

Which two this week, Nicks, Lloyd or Decker?

KC Joyner
  (3:21 PM)

My kids have been introduced to the WWE characters from the 1980s via the WWE video games and it is very cool to be able to share references like that with them. Got Lloyd rated highest out of that group.

Marty Janetty (The Rockers)

In NonPPR--Who is the better FLEX Option here in Wk 2 Stevan Ridley v. 'Zona OR Bradshaw vs Bucs? Thanks KC!

KC Joyner
  (3:23 PM)

The best tag team to never win the WWE tag belts. Bradshaw rates slightly higher than Ridley.

Jason (Wisconsin)

Champ Kind: What in the hell's diversity?Ron Burgundy: Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.I have diversity for my flex spot in a PPR. Please pick one out of DHB, Shonn Greene, Randy Moss, Braylon Edwards, or Jacquizz Rodgers.

KC Joyner
  (3:24 PM)

First time for a Ron Burgundy reference in these chats! It's a toss up between Moss and Greene, would probably take Moss given Greene's matchup.

Iron Mike Sharpe (Canada)

KC...please pick 2 out of Wallace, Stevie Johnson, Jennings and Malcolm Floyd.

KC Joyner
  (3:25 PM)

Maybe the best WWF jabroni ever! Wallace and Johnson.

The Law Firm (Cincy)

He looked a bit quicker and against a tough defense than he did in NE. Is that what we can expect each week?

KC Joyner
  (3:26 PM)

The upside for BJGE is that he'll be the bell cow and can therefore be counted on for consistent carry volume. He's not a breakaway back but 20 consistent carries brings a solid amount of FFB value.

John McClane (Nakatomi Building)

I?m in a 12 team, 0.5 PPR league and lost my first week. It might be too early to panic but should I drop Titus Young to pickup Randall Cobb?

KC Joyner
  (3:27 PM)

Do I sound like I'm ordering a pizza?!?!?!? Cobb's usage as a running back last week (or at least lining up quite often in that position) gives him an edge over Young. Say yippee ki-yay to Young.

Cousin Butch (The Bushwhackers)

Who should I start at QB this week-- Eli or RG3?

KC Joyner
  (3:28 PM)

Where's Luke? They are both listed as must starts on the TFS charts but Eli has a slight edge because of the matchup.

The situation (The jersey shore)

YO KC. saying jennings is out for tonight, start my bro Brandon LLoyd or my bro Randall Cobb?

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

Lloyd. Look for him to have a breakout game this week.

TJ (Atlanta)

Bengals secondary looked weak against Baltimore. But are they still a good streaming pick against Cleveland this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

Bengals secondary looked horrible against Baltimore. Their safeties might not even be NFL caliber players. I've got them listed as a longshot start.

Brett (Madison, WI)

Hi KC! I see form your rankings that you consider the Oakland Raiders' Defense/ST a top 5 start this week. Are they that good or MIA that bad? What about their long-snapper woes? Thanks, Brett

KC Joyner
  (3:30 PM)

It's really that Miami is that bad. Long snapper issues are a concern but facing Ryan Tannehill is a big plus.

Colonel Jessup (300 yards from 4000 Cubans who are trained to ki

Can I handle the truth about my flex options in a non-PPR league? Pick 3 out of DHB, Titus Young, Ogletree, LaFell, Kyle Rudolph, Martellus Bennett

KC Joyner
  (3:31 PM)

CODE RED!!!!!! LaFell is the easiest pick of the bunch. Would say DHB and Bennett for the other picks.

The Shockmaster (Falling through a wall )

Wheres my glitter covered stormtrooper helmet? Hillis? Tough run d or is this what we are going to get?

KC Joyner
  (3:33 PM)

That was maybe the most embarrassing angle in wrestling history. Hilariously bad. Hillis got dropped to the dreaded red rating for week 2 but not for the rest of the year. That means there is a chance for a turnaround.

Barney (NYC)

KC- time to suit up! Who would suit up for you in a ppr this week: VJax, Mike Wallace, and James Jones?

KC Joyner
  (3:35 PM)

Reminds me of that suit up line in The Avengers. It was legend... well, you get the point. Wallace is the pick.

Lloyd Christmas (Aspen)

I see you're going to the airport. Flying somewhere? Roll with Cutler tonight or Vick vs. Baltimore?

KC Joyner
  (3:36 PM)

Vick. Just think Cutler is going to make too many bad decisions against a D that specializes in forcing those sorts of errors.

Fabulous Moolah (Retired and still Sexy ?)

Don't forget the Girls,KC! Have Goodson/Helu on bench. Hold both/either or add: Mendenhall,LaFell,DHB,LeShoure,Jefferey or Ste.Hill?

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

Showed my kids the video of Mae Young getting powerbombed by the Dudleys and explained the back story behind it (she was fired up to still be part of the show). They got a kick out of it. Drop Goodson to acquire Hill. Consider dropping Helu for LaFell if you have enough RB depth.

Cam (Vta, Ca)

I traded Michael Turner and Bowe for Chris Johnson and Colston. Did I win or lose that one?

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

Tough call. Johnson is the only blue rated player of that group, so that side of the trade is the better one of the deal.

Don Vito (Corleone )

Is giving up BJGE and Marshall for R.White, An Offer I can't refuse?

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

Godfather, you would do well to not make this trade. Marshall will be just as valuable as White this year.

matt (mizzou)

Thoughts on Andrew Hawkins?

KC Joyner
  (3:40 PM)

Sold on him. Just moved him up to a low-end yellow rating for the rest of the year. Could be one of the best slot WRs in the NFL as long as he stays healthy.

Jim (VA)

Traded Alfred Morris and Stephen Hill for Percy Harvin. Am I a bonehead?

KC Joyner
  (3:41 PM)

Well, you got one pretty much surefire FFB producer for two guys who might be really good producers this year. Not a bonehead move as long as the rest of the roster is solid.

Ruth (Alaska)

Did you see Chris Johnson as tenative hitting holes or just a result of bad blocking? I thought he run hard earlier then gave up a bit late

KC Joyner
  (3:42 PM)

He only had good blocking on two of his 11 carries, so it was more bad blocking than anything else. A lot of teams had bad blocking this week (just as was the case early last year) but that should improve over time as the O lines start getting in synch.

Macho Man (Ohhhh Yeah!)

Who would I be more macho to start at flex, Ridley or Law Firm? R.I.P. Macho Man!

KC Joyner
  (3:44 PM)

They are both rated as very good starts on the TFS start-sit charts but Ridley is rated slightly higher based on matchup. In other words, he's more likely to give your FFB opponent a flying elbow from the top rope.

Ron Simmons (DAMN!)

Starting LaFell over VJax.DAMN.

KC Joyner
  (3:45 PM)

I'm hoping Mrs. Scientist gets me that T-shirt for Christmas this year. LaFell is good but VJax still rates higher.

Dan (NY)

Is MJD a blue rated player now?

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

Not quite yet. Blue rating pretty much means no question marks in starting that player and he still isn't quite to that level just yet. Could be an upgrade there soon.

The Missing Link ((Parts Unknown))

Me chase parked cars.

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

You know, it helps when you ask a FFB question when making these references.

Joe (Missouri)

What are you thoughts on TJ Graham?? hes going to start on the outside as the #2 behind Steve Johnson.. and the Bills like to throw A LOT. Donald Jones moves inside now.

KC Joyner
  (3:47 PM)

Still have Jones rated higher than Graham at the moment. Want to see Graham prove he can perform at an NFL level before signing off on him.

Barney Stinson (New York)

post your question or commentHelp a bro out. Answer this question and you will be legend...wait for it..dary. Would you start Britt or DHB in a standard league?

KC Joyner
  (3:48 PM)

Got Britt rated a bit higher.

Insert Clever name (WI)

give AP for A.J green I have McCoy Matthews, martin, and K smith

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

Insert clever answer - with that lineup, you could make that trade. It might be paying a bit too much but it gets more value out of the RB depth your team has.

Greg Jennings (Blue Rated)

Am I blue rated if I play tonight? Who would you bench to get me in the lineup? Britt, Stevie, or M Bush?

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

Can't list a player as blue rated if he has significant injury concerns. Stevie rates highest out of that bunch.

Tom (Scottsdale)

Hi K.C. - Would you trade RG3, Ryan Mathews, & Dez Bryant for Cam Newton

KC Joyner
  (3:50 PM)

Hey there. That is a trade to not make. Giving up three green-rated players for one blue rated player is just too one-sided.

Roddy Piper (The Pit)

Trade Roddy White for CJ Spiller? I would be left with Harvin, B. Lloyd and Britt at WR but I am hurting at rb with fjax and matthews.

KC Joyner
  (3:52 PM)

Making a call like this feels like getting hit in the head with a coconut. It's trading 15 weeks of big-time value for maybe 4 weeks of big-time value and then diminished returns when Jackson gets healthy. I'd say don't make the trade and wait out the early season injuries to make a midseason run for the playoffs.

John (GA)

Trade Flacco and Garcon for Dez and Gabbert? Flacco is my backup

KC Joyner
  (3:53 PM)

Can't say yes to that trade, as I'm still not the least bit sold on Gabbert.

Ive changed my lineup 30 times today (Baltimore)

If you had to start 2 this week..... Cobb, Britt, Denarius Moore, and Kev Smith.... little apprehensive with Smith VS Niners and Britt on a limited snap count??

KC Joyner
  (3:55 PM)

Nothing says fantasy football like 30 lineup changes in a day. Agree on being worried about Smith. Like Cobb because of the Jennings injury issue. Between Britt and Moore, Britt has the more favorable CB matchup so he's the pick.

The Gobbeldy Gookers (Last year's team name)

Is Isaiah Pead going to merit a fantasy start at some point this season?

KC Joyner
  (3:56 PM)

One of the most ridiculous wrestling personalities ever. Pead looks to be far from making a fantasy start impact any time soon.

Xander (Philly)

BUZZER BEATER! Just got offered Spiller and Cobb for Austin and Fred Jackson. Should I pull the trigger?

KC Joyner
  (3:57 PM)

If Cobb were a starter, this would be an easy choice. Having said that, the Austin/Jackson duo are both starters when healthy, so unless you have an immediate need for RB (which you might considering Jackson), it would be a trade to avoid.

Angry Mike (SF, CA)

Scientist, my man! How are we 55 minutes into this without a Jonathan Dwyer comment? Please discuss. Thank you.

KC Joyner
  (3:58 PM)

It has to be that the chatters don't believe in the Steelers RBs. Count me in for that same mindset, at least at the moment.

John (Wisconsin)

Need a little trade advice....smart to trade vick, mcfadden and maclin for rodgers and AP?

KC Joyner
  (3:59 PM)

That's three green-rated players for two blue-rated players. In other words, a very good move. Make the trade.

Muahahahahahahahahhaahahahaha!!!!!!! (Cobb's Starting Today!!!!!

Hey JC love your work! Week 2 opponent has Aaron rodgers. Im starting nelson, do i also roll with cobb instead of stevie johnson in a ppr league to try and offset his Aaron rodgers points? Thoughts? Would love your advice!

KC Joyner
  (4:00 PM)

I kind of feel like Mark Sanchez in that interview when someone called him Tim. Having said that, in a PPR league, Cobb is a very good choice so put him in the lineup over Johnson.

Jade (LA)

You as high on the seahawks D as the other espn rankers?

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

Not quite as sold on them this week (Dallas is a tough matchup) but they were ranked third in the TFS draft guide D/ST rankings, so the answer would be yes.

jv (nyc)

would you trade Kevin SMith for Miles Austin??

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

In a vacuum, yes. Smith will have competition for his carries very soon and Austin is going to be a starter all year long. Well, it's been a very entertaining hour but it's time to see what Mrs. Scientist is cooking for dinner. Three quick notes. The TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. I'll be taking part in a CoverItLive chat for tonight's Packers-Bears contest, so please stop on by and say hello. More info on the TFS start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Thanks for the questions and I hope to see you all here next week!
