Jets have zero chance in Miami this Sunday.... Agree??
That's very false, Jon. This will be competitive either way. For a actual pick, though, you have to wait unti later in the week.
How confident should the Bills be heading into Week 3?
This is the kind of game the Bills should win. The Browns are a bad team with plenty of holes. But you never know about teams on the road. The Bills must develop consistency.
What are the Chances that Miami go after Gregg Jennings? Do you agree that they should try to get something for him since Green bay can't afford him next year? I'm thinking Jennings can speed up Tannehill's learning curve profoundly.
I don't see the Dolphins making any significant moves for the remainder of the year. Miami is going to stick with what it has. The Dolphins have plenty of draft picks and cap room for next year to make a move.
So are you predicting Sunday is the day the Bills win their first road game in over a year?
It's a game the Bills "should" win if they are legit. I'm not making picks until the weekend.
CJ Spiller cant keep up a 10 ypc average, but what do you think realistic expectations are for his production this year? 1500 yards and 20 TDs?
I did the math yesterday, and it turns out Spiller is on pace for over 2,200 yards. That's not going to happen. But if he leads the NFL after Week 17, Spiller probably has close to or a little more than 1,500 yards.
Do you expect a jolt in the Jets offense when Keller returns? If so, how much? Cant they become an average unit this season?
I don't think the Jets every intend on being a high-scoring passing attack. So Keller's impact will not be felt in that way. More than anything, it gives Mark Sanchez a security blanket underneath. He needed that against Pittsburgh, where he couldn't hit anything outside the numbers for a while.
Do the Dolphins extend Bush or let him go at end of the year?
This is a tough one, Brandon. The short answer is Miami hasn't decided. But I think the Dolphins intended on letting Bush walk before the season started. But Bush is playing so well and becoming such a leader that his value will be high to the Dolphins by next year. It can go either way.
What are your thoughts on Cordy Glenn so far and the Bills offensive line overall?
Playing well, certainly above expectations for a rookie left tackle. Some thought he couldn't play the position at this level. But Glenn has looked natural at it so far. His run blocking is really good. There's a reason C.J. Spiller is leading the NFL in rushing.
Chan cant give the majority of the carries to Fred can when he's back can he? Gotta be Spiller 70/30.
I agree. Spiller is taking advantage of the opportunity and running with it. If this pace continues for another month, Bills would be dumb to bench the NFL's leading rusher.
Is there any other non-QB more important to their team than Darrell Revis - always seems like the Jets D lives and dies with him.
One of the few defensive players where the entire scheme is based around him. New York's defense is just decent, not great, without "Revis Island." We found that out last week. Revis is that good. I wonder sometimes if he is the most under appreciated great player in the NFL. If a WR catches three or four passes on Revis, it's a bad game. The bar is so high for him.
The Patriots defense is currently ranked #2 in the league. Think they can stay in the Top 10 all season?
Way too early for that, James. That's like saying the Jets lead the NFL in scoring after Week 1. Don't expect that to stick, although the Patriots are improved and more physical this year.
I think top half of the NFL is a good goal for New England's defense. The Patriots played well against two mediocre offenses. Let's see how they hold up against Baltimore on Sunday.
Agree or Disagree? Dolphins NEED to sign Long, Starks, Bush, and Smith to extentions before they can walk.
I don't think they need all four. Jake Long is really the only must have in my book. But even his price tag and injuries of late are a concern. Starks would be a good value signing. Good player who is underrated, although his price tag is probably rising each week with the way he's playing.
So should your remarks on Revis and his under appreciation make him a consideration for league MVP?
The awards thing always throws things off. Will Revis get enough picks, ect. to be an league MVP? Probably not. It's an offensive award. But is Revis just as good and valuable to the Jets as some QBs are to their teams? Yes.
Who wins Sunday night, Patriots or Ravens?
Still trying to decide. I'm 6-1 with my picks so far this season. You know my only wrong pick. I know which way I'm leaning, though. I'm just waiting until later in the week to see if anything changes my mind.
What do you think of Jorvorskie Lane? Is he more dangerous catching the ball, running, or as a lead blocker?
Good player who surprised me from the start in training camp. He does everything well and doesn't make many mistakes. Good find by the Dolphins and OC Mike Sherman, who vouched for him.
Who do you think is the better running back. Reggie Bush or C.J. Spiller?
I would take C.J. Spiller. But to each's own. I guess you'd have to figure in what scheme X team will run.
Do you think Brian Hartline can become a No.1 receiver?
Hartline is a solid WR when healthy. But he's not a No. 1 WR. Expect him to see a lot of opponent's No. 1 CBs now, starting with Darrelle Revis on Sunday if Revis is healthy. That advantage goes to Revis.
Have your division predictions changed at all? Do you still have it Pats, Bills, Jets, Fins? Do you think the Jets/Bills could change? You said a significant injury could change the division. Is Hernandez significant enough?
I don't change predictions, Joe. I think that's a cop out. I do make analysis as things happen throughout the season. That's my job. But I would never say in Week 8, "Ok, I'm picking the Jets over the Bills now after seeing half the season."
Would it shock you if the dolphins beat the jets this Sunday?
It would be an upset, but I wouldn't go as far as a "shock." These are division games where anything can happen. The Jets have more veterans and pieces in place. But on the road, you never know. It will be a fun game. I haven't made my pick yet. But I will be attending this game for the AFC East blog on Sunday.
How good do you think the Jets-Phins rivalry is?
This is only my second year in the division. So there are some things I'm still learning. The feeling I got last year is the Patriots-Jets rivalry is the most intense. But that's probably because they were the two best teams. Jets-Dolphins is old school and can grow again if Miami gets better.
James - I think the Jets must win this week. Next two games are real tough and if they don't have a win this week the Tebow calls could get pretty loud.
That's a fair assessment, Jeff. New York's first five games are brutal, and on paper, this was probably the easiest game coming in. But there's something about playing in Miami that is trouble for the Jets. We saw it last year. This is not an easy game. It should be fun to watch.
Which defense would you take in the division right now if you were a coach?
I would take the Jets' D with a healthy Darrelle Revis.
James, do you think Anthony Fasano can become one of Ryan Tannehill's "go to" targets? The tight end is a rookie quarterbacks best friend, right?
I'm not a huge Fasano guy. I think he's okay. He does his job most times. But Fasano is not going to take over a game. He's had the dropsies lately this year, too.
do you think c.j spiller can keep up maybe not this pace but 1,000 yard season pace?
C.J. Spiller will get 1,000 yards as long as he stays healthy. All Buffalo has to do is keep Spiller as the starter when Fred Jackson returns.
Can Miami offord Dwayne Bowe, Mike Wallace or any other big wide out this offseason
Brandon, the Dolphins have a huge game on Sunday. Stop focusing on next season. None of that matters right now.
How do you see the AFC East stacking up against the NFC West - how they fare could be the make or break for the Bills & Jets?
If the Cardinals can beat the Patriots, the AFC East is in trouble. Anything is possible.
All kidding aside. The AFC East is in for some loooong road trips. It's going to be very hard for division teams that have to go into San Francisco or Seattle to get a win. I think the distance along makes it really tough.
How would your perception of the Dolphins change if they were to win against the Jets this weekend?
It would change some. But consider that I picked the Jets to finish third and the Dolphins to finish fourth in the division this year. In my eyes, it's a battle of a third- and fourth-place team.
I think the Jets need to get better...Sexy Rexy is 2-4 vs. the Phins.
It's a tough matchup. But that was against Tony Sparano. Now he's on New York's side.
Does gronk deserve more blame for the pats loss to arizona?
Not sure about the holding call. I'm leaning towards it should not have been called. The would-be touchdown was an overthrow on Tom Brady's part. I'm not sure what else you can blame "Gronk" for.
