OK we are about ready to get started here. If you do not get your question answered please send it to the mailbag http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/recruiting/mailbag/_/id/40369/school/texas or hit us up on the forum.

Jon (McCombs)

Very reviling game. Saw some good on the defense, but did not like the mental lapses in the secondary that allowed for 31 points. No way that team should have scored 31 points. Running backs did great. The question I guess is, I was glad to see us finally see us air it out, and while Ash can do it, I feel like he woefully under threw some of those passes. Is it bad timing that will work itself out? Or can he not make those throws, he got lucky with the DB's in bad positions and his receivers bailing him out.

Carter Strickland
  (4:00 PM)

A little of both with Ash. The thing he cannot quite to is put air under the ball and make it drop into a receivers hands or put it out there and let the receiver run under it. As you saw with the TD to Davis when he throws it on a rope he does well. It's the long balls that also require touch where he struggles. There is a drill that will help this. They need to have him throw into garbage cans that allows for the ball to drop into the can from a long distance.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

When will we see the Longhorns travel West to California in College Football this season?

Carter Strickland
  (4:01 PM)

Cal 2016. Unless there is a bowl game before that.

Eddie (San Antonio)

I know Byndom has been very bad this year, but I'm gonna ask anyway. October 6, Byndom vs. Austin, who wins?

Carter Strickland
  (4:01 PM)

Austin because it is the combo of Austin and Smith

Stephen (Houston)

Now that RSJ is no longer an option, is Texas going to go strong after Robbie Rhodes? Do you know how solid he is with Baylor? Why hasn't Texas offered Torii Hunter, Jr.? Didn't the coaches ask him to come to the New Mexico game? Are they not impressed? I know nothing about his abilities other than the fact that recruiting gurus seem to think he is really good and performed impressively at The Opening. Is he just a classic slow play recruit?

Carter Strickland
  (4:02 PM)

Texas is going after Rhodes but he is not that interested at the moment. Torii is a guy the coaches feel like they may be able to get down the road so they are holding out there. It could come back to burn them though.

Megatron (MD)

I have two topics:1) Texas Defense - I'm not sure what the panic is about, Texas D held Ole Miss to 38-10 (game over at this point). Only after that score, did the D start giving up big plays, probably because they lost motivation. What's your take on this? 2) Who has the strongest arm among Ash, Brewer, and Overstreet? Ash didn't look afraid in that last game, but he made one good deep throw, the rest were all badly underthrown. Since none of them were overthrown, I felt like Ash just didn't have the arm strength to throw the ball down 50 yards. While the QB debate for this year seems to be over, I hope there will be an open competition next summer.

Carter Strickland
  (4:04 PM)

The defense is OK. They allowed seven yards, had two sacks and scored seven points on Ole Miss first three drives. Not too bad.Overstreet has the strongest arm and I don't think it is close. And the QB position will be up for debate again next year.

Matt (VA)

Are the Longhorns a contender for the BCS Title game in 2014 year?

Carter Strickland
  (4:04 PM)

Yes

Stephen (Houston)

What is going on with Cobbs? I haven't noticed him making many plays yet this season.

Carter Strickland
  (4:05 PM)

It's almost like his speed is not being used. When i watch him he seems tentative in what he is doing. Needs to get comfortable with the calls and watch more film.

Stephen (Houston)

What is Manny Diaz going to do to correct the defensive errors over the bye week? In your opinion, is it a case of losing focus against weaker opponents or is this genuinely a concern going into conference play? I'm concerned.

Carter Strickland
  (4:06 PM)

It's a lack of focus. They are great at times and then their attention wanes and they give up a big play. That is also the issue with the missed tackles. I think a lot of it has to do with immaturity. It should be more consistent as the year goes on.

Stephen (Houston)

Carter, maybe the past 2 seasons have jaded me, but I'm more concerned about the defense after the Ole Miss game than I am impressed with the offense. Thoughts?

Carter Strickland
  (4:06 PM)

See below answer

Pete (Llano,Texas)

Do you think any players will leave the program in the off season, they more offers out than they have space? Also do you think they will get any early commits from the 2014 class? The last thing is will Ash be the starting QB from now on or will the younger guys help him to the sidelines?

Carter Strickland
  (4:07 PM)

They already have five commits for 2014. As for guys leaving the program, it has happened in the past and it will happen in the future.

Stephen (Houston)

What are your thoughts on the decision not to recruit RSJ any longer? What have you heard as the reason? I read somewhere that RSJ made some not so positive tweets about the Texas offense after the New Mexico game, and that a lot of hangers-on (family, AAU coaches, etc) were getting involved in the recruiting process. Was it really just too much drama for Mack?

Carter Strickland
  (4:08 PM)

Texas is not in the business of sitting around and waiting when it comes to recruits. Plus when they were spurned once it riles them up a bit. Texas new there was some stuff that they did not want to deal with that went beyond RSJ and got out of the game.

Stephen (Houston)

How many players do you expect to be in the Class of 2013 when all said and done?

Carter Strickland
  (4:08 PM)

19-21

Stephen (Houston)

What are Rick Barnes chances of landing J. Randle from Plano? I say <1%.

Carter Strickland
  (4:09 PM)

Same as Bluto's GPA in Animal House 0.0

Stephen (Houston)

Will J. Gray ever be worked into the 1st half gameplan this season?

Carter Strickland
  (4:09 PM)

Yes as soon as he learns the blocking schemes and is more comfortable in the wild.

Jose Cuervo (California )

Steve Edmonds had a nice pick six. Aside from that play, both he and DeMarco Cobbs seemed be a non-factor for most of the game. Is this a fair assessment?

Carter Strickland
  (4:10 PM)

Very fair. Edmonds missed at least two tackles. Both are young and having trouble finding their way on the field. This bye week will help because they have time to really watch their mistakes on film and correct them.

Jose Cuervo (California )

Can you give us an update on the health of Jordan Hicks and Joe Bergeron?

Carter Strickland
  (4:11 PM)

Bergeron is not as serious as Hicks. Shoulder and I think he should go. Hicks is a hip and that is always dicey. Both will be limited in practice this week. Texas will wait till Monday to declare what their availability for the OSU game is.

Jaxon Shipley (Practice field)

Should I expect Ash to keep under throwing the deep ball? That might make for some interceptions if I am outrunning my defender...

Carter Strickland
  (4:12 PM)

Yep, it is a problem. Ash has got to air that ball out and let his receivers run under it. Although the DBs do have a hard time when the receiver comes back to the ball. I think Ash will get it worked out. He has the arm. He is just not getting what he needs to into those throws. Might be trying to guide them in there.

Jose Cuervo (California )

What are the horns chances of landing Cole Luke, Caleb Benenoch and Torii Hunter/Devon Allen?

Carter Strickland
  (4:14 PM)

Caleb is the best shot out of those. Then Torii is they want him. Then Cole and Devon.Cole has become very popular and is taking some big officials in the next few weeks including Texas Oct. 6.

Stephen (Seattle, WA)

Who scores the 1st TD for special teams? KR or PR..

Carter Strickland
  (4:14 PM)

Punt. Kick return being moved up has seriously hurt the chance of Goodwin or whoever else is back there.

Carter Strickland
  (4:15 PM)

Stephen: We are having a few technical issues posting questions. You asked chances in the next three games. I would say 2-1.

Dave (Austin)

On a scale of 1-10, how shocked were you at Ash's performance Saturday? I'm not going to say I expected it, but I had a good feeling about him this season

Carter Strickland
  (4:16 PM)

Not too terribly shocked because he has so many guys around him that can do things. Texas has had 10 different guys score TDs this year. That is a pretty impressive number through three games. 14 guys have caught passes and 11 different guys have rushed the ball.

Ryan (Arizona)

Teams are obviously starting to pick on Quandre Diggs because of how well Carrington Byndom is playing. Do you think he'll be a liability or a turnover machine?

Carter Strickland
  (4:18 PM)

Actually teams are not going at Quandre. They are going at Carrington. Qaundre had an issue once with Moncrief and he is a very good receiver. The coverage wasn't bad the play made by Moncrief was excellent. Quandre has three picks. Teams are certainly not eager to throw his way.

Eddie (San Antonio)

From the starting 11 on defense, who won't be drafted?

Carter Strickland
  (4:19 PM)

Cobbs if he keeps playing like this. Hicks is another question mark. I think Edmond will because his size and hands.

Ryan (Arizona)

Is Jackson Jeffcoat a candidate for the Lombardi?

Carter Strickland
  (4:20 PM)

JJ is playing very well. He has a chance to be a first rounder. He is on the watch list for Lombardi

Ryan (Arizona)

Any news on Ricky Seals-Jones?

Carter Strickland
  (4:22 PM)

Yeah he is going to either TAMU or LSU.

Jeff (Austin )

If Jackson Jeffcoat continues to play as well as he has, will he skip his senior year and enter the draft?

Carter Strickland
  (4:24 PM)

No doubt. He has a father who played in the NFL and knows what it means to be a first round guy. If a player has a chance to make life-altering money and be a first round pick then he should almost always go for it.

Matt (PA)

Any updates on Begeron and Hicks injuries?

Carter Strickland
  (4:25 PM)

Limited practice this week. See below for more details.

Ryan (Arizona)

I feel like D.J. Monroe scores every time he touches the ball. Is Harsin taking notice to put him in the gameplan more?

Carter Strickland
  (4:26 PM)

Well it is a hard thing because he wants to get Daje some touches too. But you are right about DJ. He is running much harder and really seeing the end zone. It's by far the best he has played while at Texas and they will continue to use him a lot.

Ryan (Arizona)

Any insight to the apparent lack of chemistry between Shipley and Ash?

Carter Strickland
  (4:28 PM)

I think they have chemistry it's just that Ash has been finding guys down field or in the flat and Jaxon is an over the middle guy. That is a dangerous place to throw and Ash is not quite comfortable making that throw just yet.

matt (atx)

If bergeron misses time do you see Brown and Gray splitting carries early in the OSU game, or Brown getting the lion's share?

Carter Strickland
  (4:29 PM)

Brown with more carries but not more than the 21 he had against Ole Miss. I think Gray could get 15 or 20 in that game if Joe B is out.

Jeff (Austin )

Is Marquise Goodwin being used enough? It just seems like he could be doing more if they threw or handed him the ball more.

Carter Strickland
  (4:30 PM)

He had 198 total yards against Ole Miss so I'm going with yes. Now he did not get the ball much the week before. But Texas knows what he can do and is going to get him the ball.

Kyle (Houston)

Do you think the offense can replicate their performance against Ole Miss week in and week out? I dont see too many of the defenses in the Big 12 being that physical

Carter Strickland
  (4:30 PM)

There is always Tech and KU.

Randy (New Orleans (SEC Country))

Can you please take your Aggies back.WE don't want them anymore.

Carter Strickland
  (4:30 PM)

Give them a chance they tend to grow on you.

Carter Strickland
  (4:31 PM)

Looks like we are out of questions this week. Light week. Guess the bye has everyone resting.

Carter Strickland
