Fantasy NFL with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (3:00 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!

Dan (from a small town near Seattle)

Hi there KC! Speaking of KC... (ok, yes, bad transition joke I know but maybe it will get my question through)... do you believe in Jamaal Charles this week and/or the rest of season? What should I do with him? THANKS!

KC Joyner
  (3:01 PM)

After breaking down the tape of the game against the Bills, it was clear that the Chiefs running game is doing just fine as far as blocking and running backs getting good runs with good blocking. Do not give up on Charles or Hillis.

Tim (Charlotte)

KC, who is the odd man out between Ridley, BJGE, Lafell and Harvin. I love Harvin but he has the SF defense and that scares me. Should it?

KC Joyner
  (3:02 PM)

Totally agree with that assessment. It's why Harvin ranks 25th on this week's TFS WR start-sit charts. Put the other three in the lineup.

Beau (GA)

KC, love the Draft Kit and Start/Sit. Will Brandon Lloyd finish the season as a top-10 receiver in a PPR?

KC Joyner
  (3:03 PM)

Thanks for that. Lloyd is getting a ton of targets, including a lot of vertical targets, so usage isn't an issue. Had he and Brady connected on a long pass in week 1 that was just beyond his reach, he would have scored 11 more points and there would be no worries about him. Lloyd will hit paydirt soon and close in on a top 10 PPR finish.

Matt (Philly)

NICKS IS KILLING ME THIS WEEK!!! Please choose 2 of these 3 to start this week; LaFell, Britt, Hillis

KC Joyner
  (3:04 PM)

Matt, you are in a very crowded boat on that one! LaFell and Hillis get the nod (LaFell is very close to being upgraded to a green rating).

Steve (Planning Ahead)

Good afternoon, KC. Who do you this in the better option going forward Justin Blackmon or Jerome Simpson?

KC Joyner
  (3:05 PM)

Tough call but Simpson would be the pick. Blackmon is stuck with Gabbert and that and adjusting to NFL caliber defenses is just crushing his fantasy value.

Newlywed (Purgatory)

Is 4 leagues too much? the wife is "ok" with it, but you know what that really means.

KC Joyner
  (3:06 PM)

If the Mrs. isn't happy, the entire house is unhappy. Maybe drop a league next year and see if that "ok" becomes a real "ok".

Chad (Portland)

Do I dare play Ramses Barden over Fitz? What am I thinking?

KC Joyner
  (3:06 PM)

You could be thinking that the Eagles will do the same thing to Fitz that the Patriots did last week. Still have to start him over Barden.

John (Connecticut)

Considering trading Chris Johnson away for Jordy Nelson or Greg Jennings in PPR league. I could use help at WR, and have plenty of RBs. I am crazy in thinking Chris Johnson has fallen this far in value for rest of season?

KC Joyner
  (3:07 PM)

The issue with CJ really has more to do with the Titans D and Jake Locker's struggles than anything else. If you can get Nelson/Jennings-like value out of him right now and need WR help, it's a good trade to make. Just don't be surprised if that offer is turned down.

Joe (NYC)

Expecting anything from Reuben Randall tonight with Hixon and Nicks out?

KC Joyner
  (3:08 PM)

Randle was rated very high on my list of top 10 WRs in the NFL Draft, but he's still adjusting to the pro level of play. He'll contribute but don't expect a Cruz-like breakout game.

Stef (Ma)

Hawkins(Cin) is available on the fa market. Is he worth a roster spot? I would have to drop Sid Rice,DHB,Marshall,VJax or Garcon. I'm leaning towards DHB,what do you think?

KC Joyner
  (3:09 PM)

Hawkins has some wheels and is a great bench addition. DHB and the Raiders offense played horrible last week (one of the worst showings on offense for any team in many Sundays), so dropping him is the way to go.

The Ultimate Warrior (Parts Unknown)

NonPPR. Have a FLEX Option dilemma here for Wk3 = Need 1 from this group--AP, Ridley, ABrown, LaFell & Crabtree? Who is my BEST Option here for Wk3?!?! Thanks KC!

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

It was great when the announcers would say "Parts unknown, weight unknown." Like they couldn't get the guy to weigh in and still let him wrestle. AP is the winner there.

Scott (PA)

Good afternoon. Celek or Bennett, who has the bigger game?

KC Joyner
  (3:12 PM)

They are rated right next to each other on the TFS TE start-sit chart, with Celek getting the higher rating. It's a toss up.

jy (ny)

trade question: I have Tamme as my TE, Boldin is my WR4. I was offered J.Witten for Boldin...should I take it??

KC Joyner
  (3:13 PM)

Witten is really not playing well right now and it is an extension of his 2011 performance (see this week's TFS ESPN Insider Fantasy Foresight article for more details). Keep Boldin.

bamamarg (Romeoville Il)

Am I ok with Rudolph this week. The only ww guy is Chandler

KC Joyner
  (3:14 PM)

Rudolph was nearly upgraded to a yellow rating this week, so you should be OK with him.

George the Animal Steele (Turnbuckle Forest)

Kangaroo! Would you trade the oft injured SJax for Britt and Hillis?

KC Joyner
  (3:15 PM)

With the development of Daryl Richardson, Jackson may start seeing a bit of a decline in PT. Hillis was very productive on good blocking plays last week, so this is a trade to make.

Keith (Chicago)

You only have one chat a week this year? C'mon Man! Ridley, kevin smith, sjax or andre brown at flex? Thanks KC

KC Joyner
  (3:16 PM)

Yeah, just one chat for now. May move up to two as the season progresses but need to keep the schedule clear for tape breakdowns. Ridley wins that battle.

James Hetfield (SanFran, CA)

KC, what do you think about McFadden?

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

A lot of his weak performance had to do with the Dolphins having one of the best run defenses in the NFL. Having said that, Oakland's offense looked horrible in that contest, so his future may not be looking anywhere near as bright as his talent level says it should.

0-2 and a barbeque (Land of the losers..)

Can you give me a deep sleeper RB for the rest of the season? Thanks KC

KC Joyner
  (3:19 PM)

Ouch. Try Lamar Miller. He did a very good job against Oakland, could easily overtake Thomas for the RB2 spot and would then only be a Reggie Bush injury from being a lead RB.

Slots! (TX)

What's going on with Welker? I don't have him but I was considering picking up Edelman.

KC Joyner
  (3:20 PM)

Welker was starting to be phased out of the Pats offense but once Hernandez with down with the injury, that seemed to change. Edelman has some flex value (he's a low-end yellow rated WR right now) but it's hard to see him taking Welker's place as the dink/dunk target in that offense.

Robert (FL)

Fantasy Football needs to pause for a minute in memory of the late great Steve Sabol.

KC Joyner
  (3:22 PM)

Agreed. Sabol's works should be shown on a loop in the national archives. He and his team gave us 100 new ways to enjoy football. He will be missed.

Travis (CO)

Can you explain your green/yellow/etc. color rating to those of us who aren't insiders?

KC Joyner
  (3:23 PM)

Sure thing. Nutshell explanation - blue is true elite (think Brees, etc.). Green is a pretty much must start type of player but not quite true elite (think Gore). Yellow is a solid fill-in player (think BJGE). Red is someone to be avoided if at all possible.

Jamie (ATL)

You like Andre Brown tonight? Over Charles perhaps, as an RB2? Or maybe over LaFell, as a flex?

KC Joyner
  (3:24 PM)

Do think Brown has a great chance at a productive evening, but have LaFell rated a bit higher on the TFS start-sit charts.

KC Joyner
  (3:24 PM)

Have Charles rated a bit higher as an RB2 but they are basically rated as even.

Archie Manning (on a plane to Charlotte)

Would I be crazy to bench my son Peyton against the Houston D and pick up Cassel against that awful saints D? Something tells me Peyton at home might make me regret this! HELP!

KC Joyner
  (3:26 PM)

Peyton does rate higher than Cassel on the TFS start-sit charts, but the matchup does make him a risky start. Play Cassel if your team needs upside.

Grasping at Straws (Edge of a cliff)

I'm in a horrible spot. Better play for an RB2 - David Wilson or Jacquizz Rodgers?

KC Joyner
  (3:27 PM)

Just trying to picture someone holding on to a straw to keep themselves from falling off of a cliff. Rodgers is the better straw.

T.K. McGraw (Log Cabin in the Colorado Rockies)

K.C.! Never asked a question before. My squad is devoid of quality runners. Which of these RBs do you think has the best chance to help my team win a 3rd straight championship: Quiz Rodgers, M. Leshoure, David Wilson?

KC Joyner
  (3:28 PM)

Rodgers. Leshoure has the injury question marks and Wilson is coming off of a week where he played only six snaps despite seeing the starting RB leave the game with an injury.

Jimmy Superfly Snuka (On top of the steel cage)

Richardson, D Thomas, or Bowe? i need 2 out of 3 Leaning towards sitting Thomas which seems crazy to me.

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

Don Muraco is hating life waiting for Snuka to land on him after flying 20 feet through the air. Need clarification - which Richardson?

John (Baltimore)

So CJ's o-line isn't the problem? I thought they've been terrible.

KC Joyner
  (3:30 PM)

They were really bad in week 1 but not so bad in week 2. CJ's issue is that he is trying to hit home runs instead of taking the singles/doubles his O line is giving him. That and two consecutive games of falling behind early (the Titans were down 14-0 by the 12 minute mark of the SD game) have been enough to crush his value.

Dave (Nyc)

With all the injuries the gmen have, who do I start Eli Manning or Alex Smith (gulp)?

KC Joyner
  (3:31 PM)

Eli still rates higher (just have a lot of faith in the NY offense) but Smith is on the verge of being upgraded to a green rating. To put it another way, Smith may be the less risky pick because of the Giants injuries.

Seth (Maine)

KC, can you post a link to the TFS start-sit charts? Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

The start-sit charts are actually part of a subscription service sold on my website (www.thefootballscientist.com).

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

Only site plug of the chat.

David (Boston)

Where does Austin Collie fall on your blue/green/yellow/red meter? He's got to be better than Titus Young.

KC Joyner
  (3:33 PM)

Collie still rates as a yellow rated player, albeit one of the lower rated ones at that level. Young was recently downgraded to a red rating.

Jason (Canada)

What do you think of AP for ROS?

KC Joyner
  (3:34 PM)

Totally sold on him. This week will be tough against SF (best run D in the NFL) but after that he has only two red-rated defenses on his schedule.

The Midnight Express (Tag Champs)

RB ? = I'm in a 1pt PPR league and my backfield of RBs is ravaged by injury this Week (Forte, Bradshaw, J-Stew, SJAX)--Would you start D-Will tonight vs the G-Men OR hold out hope and roll the dice with SJAX suiting up Sunday?

KC Joyner
  (3:35 PM)

Jim Cornette is one of my favorite managers of all time. His shoot interviews are absolutely classic. Hold out hope for Jackson, as it is always a big risk to play a RB who is in the coach's doghouse.

Paul (NE Ohio)

Can the NYG pass rush disrupt Newton enough to start RG3 instead?

KC Joyner
  (3:36 PM)

The NY pass rush should get after Newton but the Giants secondary is awful right now (see today's TFS ESPN Insider article on the Giants for more details). That makes Newton the highest rated player on the TFS QB start-sit charts.

bamamarg (Romeoville Il)

If SJAX doesn't play Sunday would you use DRICH as a flex?

KC Joyner
  (3:37 PM)

Absolutely. He's currently listed as a longshot play but if Jackson isn't able to do, Richardson would vault into the top 25 RBs.

Bob (Miami)

The one girl in our league has already made panic trades of Jamaal Charles, McFadden, and Cam Newton, giving them up for far less than their value. League vote to not let her back in next year?

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

Nah. Let her learn from her mistakes and see if she becomes a better fantasy owner. There are lots of guys who make the same mistakes and they aren't voted out of their leagues.

captain lou albano (Snukas corner )

CLARIFICATION! Sorry Snuka isnt always that clear. it was Trent richardson he meant. So he needs two out of T Richardson, Demarius Thomas, or Bowe. He is thinking sitting Thomas in that thick coconut of a head he has

KC Joyner
  (3:40 PM)

Captain Lou! The man was actually a few bricks shy of a load. Start Richardson (he'll be a beast against a Buffalo run D that looked bad against the Chiefs) and Thomas, as he has a better CB matchup than Bowe.

Junior (Colorado Springs)

Eli or Matty Ice?

KC Joyner
  (3:41 PM)

They both are listed as must starts but Ryan has a slight edge in total matchup points (which is a measurement of the relative FFB strengths of each team). Ryan gets the edge.

Greg (Mpls (MN))

Blackmon or D moore this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:42 PM)

Both could be waiver fodder but if one had to be started, it would be Robinson.

Brian (Wichita)

What do you think of Martellus Bennett for ROS?

KC Joyner
  (3:43 PM)

Sold on him, as he already has five receptions of 10 or more yards. NY has a history of getting great TE production out of less than stellar talents and they will do the same with Bennett.

Replacement ref playing fantasy football (My house)

Getting ready for Sunday! Someone offered me Jamaal Charles for Malcom Floyd. Take the bait or sit? Also who would you prefer ROS - Roddy White or Julio Jones?

KC Joyner
  (3:44 PM)

Don't get me started on the replacement officials - they are doing their best but are truly hampering these games. Getting Charles for Floyd is a good trade. Like Jones ROS but it's really a coin flip.

Barry (unfamiliar airport)

What is your projection for Mendenhall? Would you keep him around or look to trade him?

KC Joyner
  (3:45 PM)

The sense here is that Pittsburgh doesn't want to keep going with a RBBC approach. Mendenhall is also in a contract year, so that gives him motivation. Keep him around.

Andy (DC)

Hey defense question. I never like wasting roster spots on defense, but I am worried about Green Bay vs. Seattle. Is seattle a safe start or would a team like the bills be better?

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

The Bills were awful against the run last week, so starting them is probably a bad idea against Cleveland and T-Rich. Seattle is at home and just got done shutting down Dallas, so they will still be a solid play against GB.

Chris (TX)

I really want to start LaFell tonight, but I can only start 3 WR. Could I bench Julio Jones, Reggie Wayne, or Harvin over him?

KC Joyner
  (3:47 PM)

You can bench Harvin for LaFell, as the Vikings are apt to have a tough day against the SF defense.

ALF (DC)

I'm still toting the rock and it's week 3!

KC Joyner
  (3:47 PM)

Mike Shanahan - driving fantasy football owners crazy for over two decades.

Kamala (Uganda)

Got offered Crabtree for A Morris..which do you like ROS? .5 ppr

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

It's hard to trust that Morris will be the lead back in Washington all year long. He also does next to nothing in the pass game. Like Crabtree better but it is a risky move.

Ben (MN)

Who's better for a long-term bench spot: shane vereen or andre brown?

KC Joyner
  (3:50 PM)

Brown. Vereen is fighting for the RB2 role and Brown will almost certainly keep that role after Bradshaw returns.

brian (de)

I stood by you with Jared Cook while others have been picking up all the other TEs in a competitive league. Now I see you downgrade him. Is Cook still a good starter in a 12 team league going forward?

KC Joyner
  (3:51 PM)

With the way Locker is playing, Cook right now is not a good starter in a 12-team league. Locker has hamstrung that offense in a big time way.

Giant Machine (Not France Like Andre)

Remember this?Time to drop Helu? Gimme the Lottery Ticket guy to get they are all available in my 10 team league.

KC Joyner
  (3:52 PM)

Giant Machine was a ridiculous idea, but in a good way. There are better lottery picks out there right now than Helu.

"that guy" (Phoenix )

Hey KC- I our leagues commish. I recently was offered Wallace for Turner ( VIA text) I said "Sure" (hell of a deal) I sent the deal to him, he accepted the deal. He then texted me 1.5hrs later saying he "got cold feet and wanted to cancel trade" I stated no its against our rules. He has since texted league mates to vote to veto our deal, cause he messed up. Whats your thoughts on a situation like this? thanks KC!

KC Joyner
  (3:53 PM)

There isn't a rule that protects owners against buyer's remorse and there shouldn't be. Caveat emptor.

Baron Von Raschke (Eastern Europe)

The Claw lives. D Brown or S Holmes in the flex this week in no-ppr?

KC Joyner
  (3:54 PM)

Funniest BVR moment was when he and Crusher Blackwell got mad at the Road Warriors and it started to turn into a shoot fight. Tough call on the flex, Holmes has the tougher matchup so it would be Brown.

Jimmy N (VA)

What has become of this chat? I cant even get a SAGE ROSENFELS- UNLEASH THE FURY in anymore! Now then... start D Williams tonight (Im hearing no J Stewart)... or wait on S-Jax for Sunday?

KC Joyner
  (3:55 PM)

SSSAAAGGGEEE!!!! Good to have you back in the chat, Jimmy! Got to start Williams since the decision needs to be made today and Jackson could be a no go or split PT option.

Brian Fantana

60% of the time it works everytime! Champ sucks at fantasy football so I'm askin you. Would you drop Randall Cobb for Lance Moore....thanks and stay classy San Diego

KC Joyner
  (3:57 PM)

Cobb. He'll be the more consistent of the two.

Randy (NJ)

Would you start Danny Amendola over Trent Richardson?

KC Joyner
  (3:57 PM)

Absolutely not, not even in a PPR league. Richardson is apt to tear up the Bills weak run D.

Blake (Arkansas)

What do you make of Chris Johnson against the lions D this week.

KC Joyner
  (3:58 PM)

He's got a shot because Detroit's secondary is so banged up that they may actually help Locker play a lot better. CJ doesn't rate that high (No. 27 on the TFS start-sit RB charts) but all in all his odds for success could be better here than in weeks 1-2.

Andrew (Highland Park)

You just answered the same question twice, AND GAVE TWO DIFFERENT ANSWERS!!! Which is it, S Jackson or D Williams?

KC Joyner
  (3:59 PM)

Andrew, the second question had the qualifier of Stewart probably missing the game. I'm assuming that information is spot on and if it is, that changes the equation from the first time the question was asked.

Shane (Austin)

A lot of us are puzzled by your pick of LaFell over Harvin. Can you make your case clearer on why a top 10 guy like Harvin should sit?

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

Harvin is a great player but the SF defense is hands down the best in the NFL. LaFell has played great so far and the Giants D can't seem to cover anyone (all of their top CBs have double-digit YPA totals). In other words, it's the matchup as much as anything.

Some Old Wrestler (Who Cares)

TFS start-sit WR chart. Where's Britt?

KC Joyner
  (4:02 PM)

You see, it doesn't take a wrestler name to get a question answered. Britt is rated 48th on the start-sit charts. Have to see him get into synch with an out of synch Titans offense before getting on his bandwagon.

The Real Nature Boy ((Buddy Landell))

Would you worry about starting both D Brown and Wayne this week? Is the Jags D really that bad?

KC Joyner
  (4:03 PM)

Wouldn't worry at all about Wayne, as he is a must start. Regarding Brown, he rates as a good start but nothing more, so he isn't a bad pick but might not be the best pick on some teams.

One More Please (Last minute)

Amendola, Lafell, or Garcon if he plays at my flex in PPR league?

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

Amendola is close to LaFell on the TFS WR PPR start-sit charts but LaFell still has a lead because of the weak Giants secondary. He gets the nod here.

Trent (DC)

What about AP going up against SF? Who are some guys you would start over him this week that you normally wouldn't?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

AP is going to have a great rest of the season but there are a lot of RBs to start in front of him this week. He may get some points but putting anyone up against the SF D is a risky play.

Mark (MO)

Ridley or Matthews this week....(will Matthews even be productive?)

KC Joyner
  (4:06 PM)

Ridley. He's breaking off quality runs when given good blocking.

Chris (Cincy)

If LaFell has a great matchup then should we all start Andre Brown since Carolina is dead last vs. the run?

KC Joyner
  (4:07 PM)

Brown does rate 16th on the RB start-sit charts, so he is considered starting level caliber in any size league.

Raymond (Baltimore)

Are you worried about Larry Fitz long Term? I have Demaryius Thomas and Hakeem Nicks. So I wonder if I should cut bait and look for a trade now even though his stock is low

KC Joyner
  (4:07 PM)

Nope. He's played well with bad QBs before and will get things turned around. Don't trade low on him.

Blood Bath (Ric Flair's Hair)

Can you do some old school wrasslin chat some time? nobody seems to appreciate the old school territories like you.

KC Joyner
  (4:09 PM)

Hey, I can remember watching the Flair-Steamboat feud in the old Mid-Atlantic territory. Not sure we'll ever do an old school wrestling chat but if they ever decide to do one, I'm up for moderating it.

Iron Shiek (CT)

Great segway for all the SF D questions....Would you use the #1 waiver wire priority on the San Fran defense. They were just dropped in my 10 team league. I have been streaming defenses(Seattle/Dallas) and my team is so-so. Do you ever use the #1 WW priority on a defense????

KC Joyner
  (4:10 PM)

The No. 1 WW priority should not normally be used on a D but SF's D may be the best in the league. That might not translate to great FFB numbers every week but it should make them maybe the most reliable high-end fantasy D there is. That's worth a No. 1 WW slot.

John (Hartford, CT)

What's does the tape say about Stafford? Early season hiccups pushing up his bad decision %, or should I be legit worried?

KC Joyner
  (4:11 PM)

Wouldn't go so far as to use the word worry, but he was recently downgraded to a green rating.

Brett "Hitman" Hart (RIP)

Houston or Pitt DST this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:12 PM)

Last I checked, Bret Hart isn't dead. Pitt D ranks No. 1 overall on the TFS start-sit charts, as Oakland's offense is dreadful right now.

KC Joyner
  (4:14 PM)

Well, it's been a fun hour and change but Mrs. Scientist just got home and it's time to start getting ready for dinner. Quick notes - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. I'll be taking part in a CoverItLive chat for the Giants-Panthers game tonight, so stop by and say hey if you get a chance. More info about the TFS weekly start-sit service can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Thanks for the questions and I hope to see you all here next week!
