Well this should be fun after the Cowboys' win, Josh Hamilton's return, the Rangers' big series with Oakland and all the other sports going on around DFW. Let's roll.

JJT
  (1:04 PM)

remember, if for some reason I don't get to your question, u can always hit me on Twitter at @JJT_ESPNDallas

Chris (NJ)

JJT, The Cowboys O line was atrocious last year and after they did little to improve it this past off season both through the draft and free agency, it's been atrocious this year. Was it a case of having too many holes to fill in 1 offseason or are they blind to the fact that this O line could easily be the ruination of their season?

JJT
  (1:06 PM)

Absolutely. The OL needed to be fixed as did the secondary. You can't do it all in one season. They spent the bulk of their money on Carr and drafted Claiborne to solidify the spot. They hoped Bernadeau and Livings would be big and strong enough to help Costa. Thus far, neither has been effective enough. Actually, none of the OL are playing well. They're average or bad. They must improve or it's going to be a struggle all season to score points

Alec (San Diego)

What was the reason for Romo's poor game on sunday? O Line is bad, but it looked like he was not in sync with his recievers.

JJT
  (1:09 PM)

by my completely and totally unofficial count after watching the game again, the Cowboys' OL either missed a block completely or were walked into the backfield - think roller skates - 27 times. It's kind of hard to get anything going under that type of duress either from pressure or long-yardage situations on 2nd and 3rd down. He had miscommunications with Ogletree, Dez and Miles at various times and Witten dropped a pass or two depending on your definition of a drop.

CHRIS (willis tx)

Why did Rob Ryan decide to use Carr At safety instead of scandrick or jenkins because they seem to have more speed and range than carr does?

JJT
  (1:10 PM)

Carr is bigger and his size comes in handy at safety, where you do have to tackle. Jenkins can play safety in the dime, when it's almost always a passing play. Scandrick is way too small to do it except every now and then

Erick (OKC)

One game to save your life, who you taking Matt Ryan or Tony Romo.

JJT
  (1:11 PM)

Romo has a playoff win; Matty Ice doesn't

Scott (Dallas)

Maverick season is right around the corner. I think the additions of Kaman and Collision will help alot more then people think, what are your thoughts?

JJT
  (1:11 PM)

45 wins. 7th or 8th seed. 4-1 ouster in 1st round

Alex (Dallas)

Now that Oklahoma is a fruad team once again, do you think the horns have a shot at the big 12.

JJT
  (1:12 PM)

Sure. If they can get consistent QB play - that's a huge if - they have the other stuff needed to get it done. First, though, they need to handle OU

Devon (Austin)

Why is there always something wrong with Josh Hamilton?

JJT
  (1:13 PM)

Josh being Josh. His talent, however, is unmistakable. His free agency will be absolutely fascinating because he has so much baggage, but his talent is sooooo immense

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Which 2012 Dallas team do you think will make the Playoffs: the Texas Rangers or the Dallas Cowboys?

JJT
  (1:13 PM)

That's pretty easy. I know the Rangers will make the playoffs. The Cowboys? who knows

Adam (Toronto)

To take a line from Jeff Ross, Romo took more bad shots than Jayson Williams. That O-line is going to get him killed

JJT
  (1:14 PM)

At this rate, he won't last past Week 6. Hopefully, the individual improvement will kick in quickly

Nate (DC)

Dez seem upset with tony because he wasn't looking for him. did he have a a good reason to be upset?

JJT
  (1:14 PM)

he's like any other receiver, he always thinks he's open and wants the ball. No big deal

carlos (el paso tx)

Will the cowboys bring back mario butler or bring in a veteran?

JJT
  (1:14 PM)

it doesn't look that way. He's a classic tweener.

matt (dallas)

There is an extreme lack of discipline of our offensive line. Who is more to blame, coaches or players?

JJT
  (1:16 PM)

when you can't block - and you know you can't block someone - then it leads to false starts. The interior of the line is trying hard, they just aren't that good. The tackles can and will play better. They must if this offense is going to do anything.

Eric (long beach CA)

The game last night could potential determine a wildcard spot or playoff seeding. do you think the nfl overturns the call if that the case?

Kevin (Arlington)

Compared to last year, do you like the rangers current projected playoff rotation more?

JJT
  (1:21 PM)

C'mon man. What you think? Heck no, as long as the stadiums sell out and the TV ratings are high, the NFL DOES NOT CARE ONE BIT what you, me or anyone else thinks

JJT
  (1:23 PM)

The Rangers' rotation makes me nervous. Aside from Harrison everyone has had tremendous stretches of greatness and long bouts of mediocrity. As of today, I'd probably start Harrison, Yu, Holland and Dempster. But I'd be real tempted to start Yu, so he could pitch Game 5, if needed

Greg (CT)

Penalties are a reoccuring theme with Dallas, how is this not improving? I believe in Garrett but this is inexcusabe.

JJT
  (1:24 PM)

good question, but this team has struggled with penalties from Campo to Parcells to Wade to Garrett. The pre-snap penalties are the ones that must stop. No excuse at all for those. You just can't sayI'm benching witten for this procedure penalty. This ain't college, where you got 85 players

Greg P (Shelton)

Not much has been said thus far about Bruce Carter but it looks like he is playing well, anything additional you can add?

JJT
  (1:25 PM)

We knew he could run, but I've been more impressed with his work against the run. Once a game, thus far, he makes a play that makes you say Wow.

Greg (Hamden)

What do you think is the main driver behind why Dallas is doing so poor offensively, i've never bought into the "Dallas is so talented but" comment before but this offense is stacked...I cant imagine this is just an O-line problem

JJT
  (1:26 PM)

watch last week's game. You tell me if you see any holes for DeMarco Murray cause I didn't. Any offense starts with the line. It ain't sexy, but necessary

George (Stratford)

Any reason to believe this is not an 8-8 team?

shane (jersey city)

Mike Jenkins look pretty good and healthy, alot of ppl forgot how good he is when he's on top of his game. Will he be the starter of the cowboys have to play carr at safety?

JJT
  (1:27 PM)

not yet. Maybe in a few weeks. We don't have to guess. Let's see how it plays out.

JJT
  (1:28 PM)

yes, Jenkins will start if Carr plays safety. Jenkins can still make a lot of $$ if he plays well this season. He's a better player than Scandrick. Maybe, the Cowboys will have an interesting decision to make after the season

Teon (Richmond)

Should the Cowboys start looking at FAs or trades who will be out there for the O-line?

JJT
  (1:29 PM)

no one is going to trade you a good lineman this time of year. Anyone u get is gonna be a backup, and then have to come learn your system. Cowboys are stuck with what they've got. They need some individual improvement

G-Money (Chicago, IL)

Blessings JJT - Thanks for hosting today's chat. I didn't see Sunday's game, but Morris Claiborne seems to be holding his own over the first three games. How would you assess his performance so far, and what are the weaknesses in his game that other teams should be trying to exploit?

JJT
  (1:33 PM)

he's done a good job thus far, and he's only going to get better. He'll have a bad game along the way, but he shows every indication that he's going to be a good player. There's a reason the Cowboys have yet to allow 200 yards passing in a game this season. He has the ability to play press coverage and that's a key in today's game

Richard (Henderson, TX)

Irvin didn't realize his potential until aikman got hurt and beuerlein showed troy how to do it. What needs to happen for Romo to just let Dez make plays?

JJT
  (1:35 PM)

How about Dez needs to consistently run the right routes and catch the ball when its thrown to him. It ain't complicated.

JJT
  (1:35 PM)

Ogletree is tied for the team lead in receptions. You don't think Romo would prefer throwing to the game-breaking Dez?

DAYLON (DALLAS)

What up JJT .. how much credibility does Jason lose with the team if he constantly backs Jerry and his "not worried about the O Line" BS that he spilled before the season?

JJT
  (1:37 PM)

I'm not sure he's backed it up. Hs actions will speak louder than any words. Fixing the OL will be at the top of the off-season priority list. Based on what we've seen so far, the Cowboys will have a new center and either a new tackle or guard

Aryn (DC)

Do you think this team as currently constructed can win the division

JJT
  (1:38 PM)

nope. i don't believe in the OL. I think the GIants are the best team and the most complete team in the division, which is why the COwboys' win was so impressive

Dean (Olyphant Pa)

Will Witten ever regain his Pro Bowl form?? Who would have thought TE would be our second Biggest hole behind the OL?? To top it off Marty B looks great.

JJT
  (1:39 PM)

sure. He's having a rough stretch, but he can still get open. For receivers and TE's the first thing to go is the ability to get open. Witten is dropping passes when he's wide open. it won't continue

Steve H (San Antonio)

Why does no one talk about the number of penalties this team draws game after game after game?

JJT
  (1:40 PM)

obviously, you ain't been paying attention...lol

Teon (Richmond)

Do you think it may work better with Jason telling someone what type of play he wants and they pick the play. As he says run or pass, swing pass, sweep, power dive, and someone else picks the play. That may make it a quicker process. and do they call two plays like NE does? and Romo picks which one?

JJT
  (1:41 PM)

they do a lot of that already, which is why you often hear Tony screaming "kill", which means they're going to play 2.

Kim (San Angelo)

You and I both know that there are O lines now and in the past that were not filled with all-stars or first round draft picks; however they did the job and some did it very well. Coaching, preaching and hard work is necessary; is this team capable of putting heat on this line and line coach to get the job done?

JJT
  (1:42 PM)

you are correct, but all of the coaching in the world ain't gonna make you a good lineman. Or me. Cook was 3rd string center in Miami and Livings and Bernadeau were backups. The Cowboys thought the guards could make the transition to starters. maybe, they can't

Jonathan Green (Rowlett)

Kevin Olgetree in three games in second in receptions with this current trend he on pace for about 60 catches and 700 yards. Thoughts?

JJT
  (1:43 PM)

dude, it's too early for that. He;s off to a good start, but I don't pay attention to too many stats until about week 6 because there's so much fluctuation from week to week. Jason Witten catches 8 passes for 106 yards and a TD next week and you'll be cheering for him again.

JJT
  (1:44 PM)

Cook was blown up 3-4 times last week. He was pushed back and into Romo's face more than once

Ray (Southside)

At what point do the cowboys try to replace Doug Free?? This is last yr and now this yr he looks like Marc Columbo his last year wiht the boys..

JJT
  (1:44 PM)

Jermey Parnell ain't the answer. If Free is bad all year, he won't be back

G-Money (Chicago, IL)

Thanks JJT. I'm seeing now on ESPN that the Cowboys are bringing in five DBs I've never heard of for tryouts. Do you know anything about Antwaun Molden, Tyrone Culver, Eric Frampton, Don Carey, or Aaron Rouse? And if so, who would you consider to be the best of the bunch?

JJT
  (1:46 PM)

nope. When I was a beat writer, I used to know. Now, I have to follow too many teams - Rangers and Mavs - to know fringe players. Just look them up on espn.com and see how good they've been. Empower yourself

Teon (Richmond)

IF they coudl sure up the O-line do you see them winning maybe 10 games and possibly making the playoffs? Philly is looking worste to me and Redskins do not look as hot. They beat the giants already so they could win the division with the head to head tie breakbreaker if they get it together.

JJT
  (1:46 PM)

That's a huge IF.

raul (rio grande city TEXAS)

Hey JJT, Whats wrong with Witten? have you talked to him? He is surehanded... but...

JJT
  (1:47 PM)

The game is about talent. After talent,it's about confidence. Even the best players can lose confidence for whatever reason. right now, he's thinking about catching the ball instead of just catching it. He doesn't have his swag. I bet the Cowboys give him some opportunities early next week to get him off and see if they can get it back

COWBOY DARYLE (BAY AREA)

CAN YOU SEE GARRETT BEING FIRED IF THE BOYS DONT MAKE THE OFFS THIS YEAR ?

JJT
  (1:48 PM)

what if they're 11-5 and lose tiebreaker?

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

Do you think Felix Jones will resign as the Cowbou's backup RB?

JJT
  (1:48 PM)

noooooooooooooooooooooo!!

Braden (Lincoln)

I just wanna say your awesome keep up the good work bro and go Rangers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JJT
  (1:48 PM)

thanks. Check is in the mail

jean (tx)

Whats up with our all pro defensive tackle, i know he hrt his ankle in the dress rhersal game in the preseason but shoudnt he be back by now? i though h-ankle sprain were 4 to 6 weeks

JJT
  (1:49 PM)

everybody heals differently. He also had a plantar fascia issue. He'll be back as soon as he can. It does no good to rush him and watch him get hurt again

jon (sc)

Why did the ref throw his hat at olgetree if he didnt go out of bounds? doesnt he know he could potential blow a players knee out on something like that

JJT
  (1:50 PM)

no idea. I haven't heard any answer about that

roland (providence)

Despite the way seattle won lastnight they did hold the reigning league mvp to 12 points and 8 sacks. So do you think ppl were putting to much on the the cowboys lost to the seahawks

JJT
  (1:53 PM)

Not really. Now, I will say folks probably didn't give Seattle the proper respect, but that's no reason to throw a pick on third series and get a punt blocked. They're pretty pedestrian on offense

Sam (MD)

How Do you feel about Roger Goodell as the commisioner?

JJT
  (1:53 PM)

arrogance knows no bounds, though I like what he's done in terms of making players accountable for their behavior

Scott Pioli (KC)

You're welcome for Brandon Carr. Just keep an eye out, I'm sure you'll be able to get Brandon Albert or Eric Winston next year based on my terrible GM skills.

JJT
  (1:54 PM)

yeah dude, I didn't know you were that big a control freak

johnny (sulphur springs tx)

who do you think the cowboys will use at safety? u really don't want to use carr who u paid 50 million dollars to play that spot at all

JJT
  (1:55 PM)

depends n if sensabaugh can play. You gotta do what u gotta do as it relates to Carr

Nathan (Kilgore)

What's wrong with Doug Free?

JJT
  (1:55 PM)

check out my fan page on Facebook Jean-Jacques Taylor or see my timeline on Twitter @JJT_ESPNDallas. I gave a lengthy explanation

raul (rio grande city TEXAS)

what do you mean when u say "either a new tackle or guard" is Free a candidate to move to guard if they get a good tackle

JJT
  (1:55 PM)

free will be gone

G-Money (Chicago, IL)

Thanks JJT. Seems like the special teams will need to play a bigger role if the Cowboys expect to win with their offense struggling. Do you think Dez will be the exclusive punt returner from now on? And shouldn't we look at someone else to return kickoffs?

JJT
  (1:56 PM)

they let dez do it when there's a chance they can get a good return like they did the other day. Felix will get another couple of games to make an impact

JJT
  (1:56 PM)

Texas of that group

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

I see an improved secondary and linebacking core, though outside of that this Cowboys team doesnt look much different. While the skills positions on offense may be more experienced by 1 year, it is not translating to better play. Same ole Cowboys as of right now I think

JJT
  (1:57 PM)

too early to say. be patient.

JJT
  (1:57 PM)

the chat, as usual, has been great. Let's do it again next Tuesday.
