Good afternoon everyone...let's get this Wednesday fantasy racing partaaaaaayyyy started!
Do u think that jimmy johnsons going to win an other championship n what r the chances of gordon winning a fifth championship if he continues his top 5 finishes
He's looking awfully good right now I can tell you that Jeremiah. A win or two plus a string of top-5 could give him title number six. He really doesn't have a weak track coming up...the only question is whether or not he can finish the plate race at Talladega...He's been crashed in all three previous plate races this year.
Off to a fantastic start in Segment 3, tied for 27th overall, much in part to your helpful advice and Sunday notes so I thank you for that! Now obviously we'll need to see practice and qualifying first, but with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. back in the #6 this week (at a sweet 13.0 value) is he worth a shot alongside four top guns (for now those would be the 2, 11, 24 and 48) or do I get Hornish back until maybe Vickers is back in the 55 at Martinsville?
Zach,I think Mark Martin makes a lot of sense this week as the floor pick at 17.7. At the top Jimmie Johnson is a must if you don't already have him..He's at 21.7 and climbing...then you can go mid-pack with some strong Dover drivers at more cap friendly prices..Bowyer 20.8..Kenseth 20.7..Jeff Gordon 19.6..Kasey Kahne 19.7 and Kevin Harvick 20.7..other possibles to work in with Martin - Johnson combo.
Who do you think will win the One Main Financial 200 & The AAA 400 at Dover?
Joey Logano is my pick Saturday and Jimmie Johnson Sunday.
A little off topic, but what's your take on the Monday Night Football game?
Unbelievably bad call..I used to box and I could take getting beat if the other guy beat me, but lousy judges that was tough to swallow because you know if you really won or not and to have them take it away if you earned it was a bad deal..that was what I was reminded of when I saw the final play of that game..a bad, frustrating deal for the Packers.
I'm currently ranked 1st in my league but lately my lead has been shrinking. My current roster is 2,5,22,24,48. What can I do to stop the bleeding?
Dover hasn't been a super track for Keselowski so you might want to think about trading down and taking Kenseth or Bowyer..And again I think working things to make Martin the floor pick this week could turn out to be a good thing.
I think my top 10 will be different than yours this week. What do you think? 48-17-99-18-29-15-24-5-55-88? No 2-11-14-16-56
Here's my pre-race top-30...you be the judge how close...1.Jimmie Johnson2.Matt Kenseth3.Jeff Gordon4.Clint Bowyer5.Kyle Busch6.Kevin Harvick7.Martin Truex, Jr.8.Kasey Kahne9.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.10.Denny Hamlin11.Marcos Ambrose12.Brad Keselowski13.Joey Logano14.Greg Biffle15.Jeff Burton16.Mark Martin17.Ryan Newman18.Tony Stewart19.Aric Almirola20.Paul Menard21.Carl Edwards22.Sam Hornish, Jr.23.Bobby Labonte24.Jamie McMurray25.Regan Smith26.Juan Pablo Montoya27.Kurt Busch28.David Ragan29.Travis Kvapil30.David Gilliland
Steve did a good job Sunday.... and he seems very energetic.
I appreciate that feedback Jeremy...Steve has helped me do this for a long time and was nervous about stepping into the Guru's shoes, but thought he did great too.
I am dominating my league and I just wanted to know who you think is the best floor pick this week at Dover. Thanks!
As I've already said Jerrick I think arranging Mark Martin as the floor pick this week might be the way to go. I also think you can hold on to Sam Hornish, Jr. and not get hurt too badly. He'll run in and around 20th or so again like has been and in doing so he's allowed me to open the third segment with scores of 193 and 194 I believe.
Mark, hope everything is going well in CLT. Almost halfway through 1st semester at grad school. Anyways for the Monster Mile I have prelim: 48-15-5-22. Q's I have: 22 or 6, 2 of 15, 5, 56, 16. Pretty set on the 48 though.
I think the 48 is a no brainer..I also think the 15,5, and 56 will serve you well too. I do think you have the four strongest cars entered.
How about your top four qualifiers
I like Jimmie Johnson a lot in this deal as well as Mark Martin..I also think the other two top qualifiers in June will be fast again Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman..
Especially in the Chase should momentum mean a little more than track history (ie Denny Hamlin's poor average @ Dover). And on the flip side, is Matt Kenseth in too big a rut despite his awesome record at Dover?
Momentum always counts for something and so does past history because there are some tracks a driver just doesn't ever get a handle on..I expect Hamlin to run better this week at Dover than he has in recent past...but do I think he becomes winning material? No, I don't think so. As for Kenseth, he was struggling a bit coming into this race a year ago and ripped another top-5..I think Kenseth can drive the place in his sleep.
What are the best tracks left for each chase driver to get a win? Or what tracks are considered each drivers best? Also each drivers worst?
Well Don, Johnson has several, but none better than Dover this weekend where his stats are nothing short of amazing..Keselowski should be tougher on the remaining mile and a halfs..Hamlin I really like for Phoenix among others. Tony Stewart maybe Texas...Kahne Charlotte...Bowyer Talladega...Junior is another Talladega..Harvick another Talladega...Greg Biffle - Homestead...Martin Truex, Jr. - Kansas...Matt Kenseth - Dover or Charlotte...Jeff Gordon - Dover or Martinsville.
Guru, I'm leaning towards # 11, 2, 88, 31 & 5 for Dover... stick with it or juggle it up ?
I think you should juggle Mikey...I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the first four drivers..They are all certainly capable of running top-10, but none of the those four have consistently done it at Dover.
Earlier this season I think I remember you mentioning the possibility of the Stock Car Challenge going away in 2013. Any update on that?
Not sure it's going away, but I guess I could...
Who do you think would be the best 2 choices from Almirola, Hornish, Labonte, and Stenhouse?
Safest picks Hornish and Labonte...if you are in the mind to dare to be great..Then, Almirola and Stenhouse. Almirola had a great top-10 run in June, but I honestly can't see that happening again..
I noticed Stenhouse didn't make your top 30. Was he overlooked or don't you think him in Roush equipment will do better than Kvapil and Gilliland?
Yeah, that was probably a mistake now that you bring that up...he'll surely be on it when we get to the race day top-30 rundown.
Hi Mark. Will Regan Smith or Brian Vickers find a ride for 2013? Can Dale jr. still win the chase? What do you think of this lineup:48,88,18,31,& 24?
Jill, I think it's going to be tough for Smith to find a quality ride because his stock is down..Vickers, on the other hand, has a value that's been increasing throughout the year..I'm hearing he'll be in full-time Nationwide Series ride for Joe Gibbs and then the part-time Cup deal again with Michael Waltrip, filling in for Mark Martin.
Hullo, Guru! Do you think putting Ricky Stenhouse into the Dover race during such an intense chase is a bit irresponsible? I know he could use the experience and has gained a lot of car control, but he is also a bit of a loose cannon....Thanks, as always!
Joania, let's be easy on Ricky...He's not going to drive as aggressively Sunday as he will Saturday. He'll be mindful of the guys who are in the Chase.
Howdy, Guru. We can use each driver once per half season. Can you give me someone (Besides J.J.) who has a better chance this week than he might for the rest of the season? Preferably a middle to back-of-the-pack guy. Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.
Does Jeff Gordon fit into that category?..He might have been better than Johnson in June but got screwed up by a bad pit stop...others that should have cars that might be good enough at Dover Matt Kenseth, Clint Bowyer, and Kyle Busch.
I did see Danica in your top 30 either. LOL
Easy Zippy...She'll probably be on it on race day...one thing if you watch her in the Cup cars. She really hasn't figure out now to qualify them but when she gets into a race and starts matching the rythmn of the other cars around her..her lap times get better and better throughout the day..When she has the other cars to use as a guide when to let off and get back on the gas etc...she's not far off then...certainly not as far as qualifying.
Thanks, Guru. I know about all the usual suspects. I guess I was asking for a dark horse.
Well did any of those picks I give you help?
Have Johnson, Hamlin, Keselowski, and Hornish all with a plus .2-.6 value. Would it be stupid to just keep them and let it ride?
That's the decision I'm faced with this week..I have those four and I'm really tempted to go with Mark Martin as the floor..then Keep the 48 and slip in Kenseth, Gordon, and Bowyer or Kenseth, Gordon and Kahne...problem is would I be able to get back Hamlin and Keselowksi? I'm thinking maybe I get one back but not both even if they should increase in value even a little bit after Dover.
I can only use Logano 1 more time...what track is wise to use him?
Dover wouldn't be a bad bet with him..Phoenix also comes to mind.
With the 2013 Sprint Cup Series Schedule Out, What Tracks Will Danica Patrick Struggle Very Bad at since she is Racing in the Sprint Cup Full-Time?
Honestly, she'll struggle at all of them except for the plate tracks...and she'll be better on the mile and a halfs than she will be on the short tracks.
Forgot to say Kahne was the fifth driver at a plus.6 if it makes any difference.
If you decide to make changes than keep Johnson and Kahne..add Martin then Kenseth and Gordon.
hi-mark-i will add 2 zipnada ? ihve 48-11-5-2-22 is better 2 ride it out cause it could be a good lineup 4 the rest of the chase or dumb 11-2-22 & pickup 17-15 also would be good at dega /also i am hearing alot of buzz that 11 won bristol
John that's going to be the big question going into this race because the most recent stats for the 11 and 2 have not been great at Dover. As much of a run as they are on right now though past stats might not mean much..Again I don't see the 11 and 2 jumping up to be potential top-5 but they could run top-10 and if you feel or figure that then you probably should hold on to them...if you think otherwise or want to be aggressive this would probably be the time to make a change..with wild card Talladega up next.
Mark now that Denny has cooled his jets for this weeks race I see Alan having a good weekend. It has been ruff around here the last few weeks.
I'm sure you're just about out of the little purple pills for Alan in PA the way Denny has been running lately..lol
Hey, Guru. ( Hello Joanie, too ! )Haven't been able to make the last few Wendesdays, but I go back through the weekly chat later.I know NASCAR seems to be set in stone with their Chase schedule, but having tracks like Louden ( BORING! ), Kansas and Dover just doesn't make sense. No Daytona, no Bristol, and no road course ( I miss Riverside! ). Do you ever see the possibility of them somehow being moved to put more exciting and traditional races into the Chase?
Larry, I'm not sure what will happen..but when the contracts are up with Ford for the last race at Homestead-Miami which I think is next year..I think NASCAR will take a hard look at the Chase schedule and make a few adjustments..what they'll be I don't know..maybe end at Vegas instead..and remember you have weather issues in a lot of places to deal with in the fall.
Do you think Ambrose might be able to stretch up to a top 5 considering what he has done the last 3 races at Dover?
No, I don't see that happening.
Unfortunately not. I've already used most of my top guys.
How about Logano or Truex?
You Zippy, and I are faced with the same decision when it comes to mixing up our rosters - I'm probably going for it - even with that awesome mix of drivers and a good performance by each one the last two weeks, I'm 1025 back overall - looks like, "no guts, no glory" with the fearsome competition here...haha, if Y'All don't change up and I do, you will probably be waving to me as I sink in the mire behind you -
Easy Joanie..don't sell yourself short....let us do it...lol
Wanted to thank Larry for the shout-out - Larry - I've been busy, but hope to find your forum soon, could you remind me where it is? Thanks!
Folks I can't tell you what Joanie just said about me...and yes I am surprised, shocked and speechless :)
Joanie, you can see us at the Jayskis Junkies league. Thanks for the insight, Gura. I wasn't thinking the weather issue at the tracks not in the south.
Believe me man I'd like to switch it up and hope NASCAR does make a few adjustments. I think Atlanta would be great in the Chase...Bristol-Richmond, Sonoma....a dirt tracks....oops fantasizing for a moment.
Got to wrap it up folks..I'll be back on the switch at 11:00 am Sunday morning with the Dover race day chat so please me then and please check out my race preview. Until we meet again, have a great week and may the force be with you. Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building"!
