Fantasy NFL with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (3:01 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!

Smoky (Mountains)

Hi KC: TE injuries...Would you go with Moeaiki, D Clark or Cook (if he plays)? THANKS!!!

KC Joyner
  (3:03 PM)

Hello to the great Smoky Mountains! Have to say Cook, as he is the only one of that group who can post dominant numbers.

Will Turner play better against panthers

KC Joyner
  (3:05 PM)

Turner is due to face two green-rated run defenses in the next three weeks (green being very favorable matchups for the RB). His current streak of posting double-digit games will continue.

Xander (Philly)

I try to ignore "rankings" and go with my gut. And my gut is telling me to start Fitzpatrick over Stafford this weekend. Thoughts?

KC Joyner
  (3:06 PM)

Stafford has seen his grade lowered (he went from a blue ranking to a green ranking in this week's QB start-sit charts) but he still rates ahead of Fitz.

Samson (Ocean City)

Love listening to you and Mike Gill. If CJ Spiller plays is he a must start. I can use him, Stewart, Choice or Rudolph at flex.

KC Joyner
  (3:07 PM)

Hey, thanks for listening to the show! Mike Gill is a terrific host and going on to his show is one of the highlights of the TFS week. If Spiller plays, he is a must start, albeit a very risky one given his injury.

Taca (The League)

Is boldin worth dropping for j simpson? i don't think i will ACTUALLY play boldin (assuming i even set a lineup this week)

KC Joyner
  (3:08 PM)

It wouldn't be a terrible move by any stretch but Boldin is still a very good WR and should be the more consistent of the two. Only make the move if you are willing to take risks on upside plays during bye weeks.

Golden "Maybe I did push off" Tate (Seattle )

Am I the best bye week option or should someone pick up Jacoby Jones, Edleman or Hagan for this week.

KC Joyner
  (3:09 PM)

Did Tate actually think that the cameras weren't going to spot that? He's got moxie, that's for sure. He's probably the best of that group as long as Edelman still has the injury question mark.

Heinz (Danville)

Answer my question or else. I have been playing Gates and have Rudolph on the bench. Give Gates 1 more week or go with Rudolph against the Lions?

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

That's a very difficult call. Gates rates slightly higher on the start-sit charts but a case could be made for Rudolph. Would start Gates just under the idea that he is bound to rebound soon enough.

i just traded alex smith crabtree and pierre thomas for vick and maclin. This is an awesome deal right

KC Joyner
  (3:12 PM)

Only if Vick stops his playground football approach and starts playing within the Reid system. Otherwise, he's going to keep making a ton of bad decisions (8 so far this year, which is more than 5 QBs had in the entire 2011 season) and will find his way on the bench.

Oliver (PA)

Do you really think Spiller will play this week? If not, would it be wise to pickup Choice just in case? Will he get a substantial amount of carries?

KC Joyner
  (3:13 PM)

I personally don't think Spiller will play this week. Problem is, if he doesn't go, is Fred Jackson going to make it back. He probably won't be in the lineup, either, so this may have to be a Sunday lineup decision. In any event, it would probably be better to look to higher percentage plays if possible.

Tashard "Not my best" Choice (DC)

You said Spiller is a "must start" if he plays. What are your pojections for his long-term fantasy value. Is it better to sell high now that Jackson is back? Thank you

KC Joyner
  (3:14 PM)

The must-start on Spiller is if it looks like he will be fully back, which is not a likely scenario. Long-term value on him is not as good as what his short-term value has been, as Buffalo will turn this into a platoon backfield situation and the divided carries will lower his value.

wayne (va beach)

ANALYSIS QUESTION: Doug Martin is very decisive and runs hard everytime he gets the ball. He is also a 3.2 ypc guy....does he lack vision, is his line bad, is the scheme not working? Should/can we expect more?

KC Joyner
  (3:16 PM)

Martin has been a low YPC guy since his days at Boise State. He's got solid vision and burst but may not have either of those talents in abundance. Expect some more (he's better than a 3.2 YPC level) but don't have sky high expectations.

replacement ref (secret hideout)

ppr league: i have welker/roddy/nicks/amendola and bradshaw/mbush/bjge/ingramwas offered Foster for Bradshaw/Roddy/BJGE...i take this and run, right?

KC Joyner
  (3:18 PM)

You won't have a lot of depth at RB if Foster gets hurt and you'll only have one starting quality RB. It's probably a bit much to pay.

Jamie (pittsburgh)

What are your thoughts on Wes Welker.

KC Joyner
  (3:19 PM)

That his week 1 woes were blown out of proportion. He might have days where he is phased out of the lineup because of personnel set up, but he's still a green-rated WR and will likely retain that grade all season long.

Jim C. (Boise, Idaho)

Pardon me, but Doug Martin was a career 5.6 yard per carry back at Boise State. I don't consider that to be a low YPC guy.

KC Joyner
  (3:20 PM)

Check out his YPC last year - it was mid-range among high carry RBs and he did it with a loaded offense playing a relatively favorable schedule. If he was an elite back, that number should have been much higher.

Bob (Austin)

Looking for a little more from Romo and Murray. It gets better after this week right?

KC Joyner
  (3:21 PM)

Well, Chicago is on the docket this week, followed by a bye week and then Baltimore. It will get better, but it might take until after this stretch of contests to do so.

Brian (Mechanicsburg, PA)

Freeman or Vick at QB this week? I know the rankings say to stick with Vick, but isn't Freeman a "safer" start this weekend?

KC Joyner
  (3:22 PM)

If the decision is being made based on risk level, Freeman would win that one. Having said that, Vick does rate higher on the TFS QB start-sit charts.

James (A Giant Peach)

Any thoughts on Leonard Hankerson ROS?

KC Joyner
  (3:23 PM)

He graded out well at Miami and has done a more than solid job when given the chance in the NFL. He'll be a yellow-rated WR this year (meaning he's a solid flex start candidate most of the time) and could eventually graduate to a low-end green rating.

John (Vegas)

Would you trade Steven Jackson to get Chris Johnson or hold tight? Thanks

KC Joyner
  (3:24 PM)

Tough call. I'd probably make the move if only because Jackson has the threat of Richardson to take PT and he's older and has more wear and tear than CJ. I may be the only person expecting a CJ turnaround but there are still reasons to think he can get this season back in order.

Brad (Seattle)

Will the Patriots continue to go up-tempto and leave Ridley off the field?

KC Joyner
  (3:25 PM)

Only if they face defenses with powerful front sevens. In other words, look for Ridley to get lots of PT in weeks 4-5 (Buffalo & Denver) but not so much in week 6 (Seattle).

Jeff (MA)

As a Doug Martin owner, should I drop Cobb who is on my bench for Blount because he was recently dropped?

KC Joyner
  (3:26 PM)

Blount may end up getting more PT in the future but his status in TB is such that Cobb is still the better roster option.

Scott (Va)

Thoughts on Flacco ROS?

KC Joyner
  (3:27 PM)

He tends to do well against weak defenses and struggles against stronger ones. That could make the midseason stretch a bit difficult but there are still more than a few favorable matchups in his future. Peg him for about 4-5 more really good games (17+ points).

The Narcissist ((Ring))

My team is "beyond perfection". Although I already know the answer, I want to hear your choice of two to sit in my PPR league - Mikel, Murray, Vincent Jackson, Dez, and Welker.

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

I'd like to go back and find some tape of Luger when he played O line for the Packers - want to see if he grades out as perfect (which he certainly wouldn't since he didn't make the cut). Would probably sit V Jax and Dez out of that group.

Help needed (MARS)

Who should i start this week at my #2RB Daniel Thomas or Andre Brown. And which 2 WR should i start out of Vincent Jackson (vs was), Desean Jackson (vs nyg) and Torrey Smith (vs cle)?

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

Brown over Thomas. Smith and DeSean over Vincent.

It's on like Ndamakong (DK)

I have Foster, Charles, Matthews, Doug Martin, and Fred Jackson i need help at WR with harvin and decker which RB should I trade, and who should I target. Btw this team is 0-3 with those studs ridiculous right?

KC Joyner
  (3:31 PM)

Nothing says fantasy football like going 0-3 with a great roster like that. Jackson would be the best trade option in that he is going to split PT more than the others (except for Charles and he may end up being more of a lead back than a platoon back). Target a low-end every week starter, as that's the price someone like Jackson should command.

Max (San Diego)

I'm really not liking Meachem for fantasy and reality. Can he be dropped with authority for Hankerson?

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

He sure hasn't seemed to get in synch with Rivers. Dropping him for Hankerson is a sensible move.

kyle (TX)

What's your take on Andre Brown's contribution with Bradshaw back? Would you flex him over Maclin?

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

Brown will turn that backfield into a platoon situation, so look for his value to stay high. Flexing him over Maclin this week is a good move since Maclin is still dealing with an injury.

Jason Witten (Dallas)

Do I turn it around this week or am I better off on the bench in favor of Rudolph?

KC Joyner
  (3:33 PM)

Bench. Witten was on last week's TFS ESPN Insider Fantasy Foresight article as someone to consider benching for a variety of reasons. Rudolph's the better play this week.

Ric Flair (The Nature Boy)

WOOOOOOO!!! KC, after I finish stylin' and profilin' should I trade Alfred Morris and Ced Benson for Michael Turner? WOOOOO!!!

KC Joyner
  (3:34 PM)

To be the man, you would have to not make this trade. Turner is going to have some good games in the future but he isn't worth trading good bell cows for.

Torrey Smith (Baltimore)

Odds that I have a let down performance after my monster night against the Pats?

KC Joyner
  (3:35 PM)

Smith's cornerback schedule gets tougher this week but it really isn't daunting until weeks 12-14 when he has three tough matchups in a row. He'll still have a solid game this week.

Mean Gene Okerlund (Ringside)

You touched on these two RBs above but what is your ROS outlook and color rating for Chris Johnson and Steven Jackson?

KC Joyner
  (3:37 PM)

Had to lower both of their grades to a yellow level considering their lack of performance of late. Expecting improvements for both ROS, with CJ's performance level probably higher than Jackson's.

Devin Brooks (Detroit)

KC, Please answer!!! Would you take Turner and Garcon and Homles to get Bowe and Reggie Bush...? I have AJ/Dez/Amendola and my RB are Forte/Trent... I also have Jimmy G and Rob Gronk, I can start both which I do..

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

Turner and Garcon alone could end up being as productive as Bowe and Bush and Holmes is a good bye week flex candidate. That's not a trade to make.

John (Salt Lake)

So we know about Spiller. Is Fred Jackson a must start if he plays?

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

The general suggestion is to avoid injury situations if at all possible. Jackson may play but the odds that he has the same kind of return performance that Mathews had in SD this week is reason enough to avoid him if possible.

Alvin (Dave's doghouse)

Yippe kaye mama sita! You think Harvin makes it to the blue rating? What is your ROS outlook?

KC Joyner
  (3:40 PM)

Harvin can get a blue rating in a PPR league but he's still not quite putting up enough points in standard leagues to justify that kind of rating. Blue ratings are really, really hard to earn.

Ryan (Columbus)

After watching the Cowboys/Giants game in week one I was blown away by DeMarco Murray, he looked fast and versatile. What are your thoughts on him; potential elite back?

KC Joyner
  (3:41 PM)

Absolutely, although he has to show that he can deal with the bell cow workload that Dallas wants to give him. That the $64K question.

Bryden (Medicine Hat, AB)

Who is getting the touches at RB for the Dophins this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:42 PM)

Thomas will likely lead in that category but look for Miller to get 5-10 carries and be quite productive on those carries.

Hey KC love your work, I have gronk and after seeing last weeks blocking and 3 wide out sets I have to admit i'm a little worried. Im in a ppr league do i stick with him or move him for jaamal charles?

KC Joyner
  (3:43 PM)

There are many reasons to think that Gronk won't see a repeat of last year. Having said that, the move depends on your TE and RB situations. In a vacuum, that would be a good trade.

Dave (Kansas City)

You buying Mendenhall as an RB2 option when he comes back week 5?

KC Joyner
  (3:44 PM)

Like Mendenhall's chances long term but putting him in as a RB2 the first week back from injury when Pittsburgh hasn't been able to get much of anything done on the ground is a risky play to avoid if possible.

Anicra (Mpls Mn)

Is there any reason to hold onto RB Wilson on Giants? I am RB light and had bad luck picking up any other RB in waiver wire.

KC Joyner
  (3:45 PM)

No reason to hold on to Wilson in anything other than deep keeper leagues.

howdie (ca)

CJ2K was recently dropped and is available on my league waiver wire. My current RBs are TRich, DougMartin, BJGE and Ryan Williams. should I even consider trying to pick up CJ2K and drop Ryan Williams? Thx KC

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

Just had a chance to review Williams' metrics for a TFS ESPN Insider article about the Arizona Cardinals chances to win the NFC West (they are true contenders for that title). Williams was one of the factors as to why Arizona's chances are so good, as he has a very high GBYPA. Dropping BJGE is the better way to go, as he will never give the kind of upside CJ is capable of if CJ turns his season around.

Jeff (Portland OR)

Everyone wants to know about CJ2K...Give me some backs that you would take instead of CJ the ROS.

KC Joyner
  (3:48 PM)

The list is certainly not a short one, but there still aren't 25 backs I'd rather have on a roster in place of CJ. His upside when things are going well is a stratosphere few can reach and that gives him a certain level of value most others simply cannot reach.

Green Rating (GR)

Does Alf Morris or Mikel Leshoure ever make it to Green Rating? which do you like better?

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

Morris has been at a green rating for a couple of weeks now and Leshoure is right on the precipice. Like Morris better because of Leshoure's injury history.

Dan (NY)

Do I start Trich tonight or bench him for T. Choice??

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

T Rich. He's a risk but so is Choice in that Choice's carry volume could be very volatile.

Frank (Los Angeles)

You're entering Matthew Berry territory as far as advice/predictions buddy....time to step it up.

KC Joyner
  (3:50 PM)

Sir, I'm going to take that as a compliment. Berry gets a blue rating in the TFS fantasy experts rankings.

Lothar (The Hill)

Hey KC! Great listening to you. Need some trade advice: Would you trade away RG3 for Steve Smith. Have Matty Ice, Nicks and Fitz with no other WR depth. RBS are fine....3 good ones.

KC Joyner
  (3:52 PM)

The ranks of the blue rated players has dropped pretty significantly since the start of the season and RG3 recently joined those blue rated rankings. There are only about 3-4 players that could justify trading RG3 for and Smith isn't one of them. Aim higher and see if you can get someone like Julio Jones or Megatron.

Rich (Delaware)

I was just offered Aaron Rodgers and Shoun Greene for Stafford and Sproles....would you do it?

KC Joyner
  (3:53 PM)

In a PPR league, no. In a non-PPR league, yes, as Stafford's injury is enough of a concern to justify getting Rodgers in his place.

Bob (Atlanta)

If I have the superior team this week and opponent is starting Torrey Smith and David Pitta, then should I start Flacco over Vick?

KC Joyner
  (3:54 PM)

Flacco can be justified over Vick just on the basis of matchup alone, but that factor makes it a slam dunk pick.

QB Dilemma (IN)

With Big Ben on bye, and Romo against the Bears. I have David Wilson or Randall Cobb that I could drop to acquire Fitzpatrick for this week. What do you think?

KC Joyner
  (3:55 PM)

Drop Wilson for Fitz. Wilson is a third string RB who won't get PT unless Bradshaw/Brown get hurt, and even then he might only be an alternate RB.

Keith (Medicine Hat)

Your earlier comment makes you sound really high on Ryan Williams. Would you drop D. Brown, Benson, or Garcon for him?

KC Joyner
  (3:55 PM)

Definitely sold on Williams. Would strongly consider dropping Benson for him.

Brent (HELP)

Just traded Murray for Matt Ryan. Was that the right move as I have Gore and McCoy at RB.

KC Joyner
  (3:56 PM)

Assuming your team didn't have a QB better than Ryan (who is on the precipice of a blue rating), that's a very good trade.

Princess Leia (Galaxy far, far away.)

I was the lucky owner who not only got Andre Brown, but played him, but I am at a loss this week as I have Bradshaw too. Help me KC you are my only hope.

KC Joyner
  (3:58 PM)

Since Bradshaw is coming off of an injury, Brown would be the better pick of the two. Any way to start them both?

Joe (Pittsburgh)

Wait. Did you just say drop Benson for Williams? When D. Brown could be cut instead?

KC Joyner
  (3:59 PM)

My bad on that one - I thought it was D. Wilson. Dropping D. Brown for Williams is the much better option.

KC Joyner
  (3:59 PM)

Downside of trying to answer questions as quickly as possible.

RG3down and 13to go (The Capital)

KC myself or Peyton in week 4?

KC Joyner
  (3:59 PM)

RG3. He just got upgraded to a blue rating.

This is my third chat this week and I still can't get my question answered. I am hoping the squeaky wheel gets the grease here... Start Flacco over Cam this week? Benson over Doug Martin? Thank you!

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

This is why I try to answer questions as fast as possible - want to include as many chatter queries as can be posted in 60 minutes. Flacco over Cam, Benson over Martin (just have to get every starter possible in against the NO defense).

Mad Dog, Buzz Saw Sawyer (Every Territory)

I say Romo has an up week against the Bears D. They don't blitz a lot and play more zone than most. WR's & TE's can sit in holes and not blitzing may cover up the MASSIVE Crimson Mask that is the Cow's O-line. What say you?

KC Joyner
  (4:03 PM)

Mad Dog Buzz Sawyer - that's a name not heard in this chat before and one I haven't heard in many years. That nickname was a perfect fit for him. The issue for Romo is that the Bears play a D that Dallas will want to run against. Romo may not have a terrible day but that says he does have a FFB point ceiling.

Tom (Pittsburgh)

Please buddy, help a brother out : was just offered RG III and Trent Rich for Peyton and Ray Rice. Is this worthy noting that Trent plays three very decent Defenses in his division ( 6 games total ) ? Trent would join these RB's who are on my bench : Fred Jax, Al Morris, Tate, Andre Brown and Mendy.

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

With that RB corps, getting RG3 for Peyton is a great deal. Make the trade.

Nate (NJ)

Your NFL MVP through 3 weeks is ______.

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

Karyn (NJ)

Is there any hope for Jay Cutler? Do I drop him, trade him, or hold on?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

The Bears have Jacksonville, Detroit and Carolina on the schedule for three of the next five weeks. That makes Cutler worth holding on to.

Ryan (PA)

Short and sweet, Romo or Rivers this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:08 PM)

Great way to end the chat - let's say Rivers over Romo. Well, it's been a great hour but it's time to hit the road. Two quick notes - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS. More info about the TFS in-season start-sit service can be found at Thanks for the questions and hope to see you all here next week!
