What's up, everybody? Thanks for joining me. Lots to get to today. I'll get to as many questions as I can. Keep them coming.
So many people have talked about the Texans and them being undefeated, but why aren't the Falcons getting as much love? The Mattural is ridiculous with 18 game winning drives.
The Mattural? I like it. Matt Ryan has been on fire all season. The Falcons are really putting pressure on opposing teams with all of their offensive weapons. Who do you take away? And if you try to take one guy out, someone else is going to hurt you. I don't know about everyone else but I've been giving Atlanta plenty of love. Will see them again in a couple of weeks against Philly.
Romo or Vick? whos the better quarter?
I'm not a Romo hater. Far from it. But both of those guys have to do a better job protecting the football. Vick leads the league in fumbles and is on pace to shatter the record -- 23 I think, by Kerry Collins and Daunte Culpepper -- so clearly he's got to be better. I'm not going to pick one over the other. They're very different. But I expect them to play better.
Do you think Dez bryant will ever become the great player he can be?
That's a great question, Sam. It is all up to him. He has such talent but he's got to prove it on the field. Romo would look a lot better if Bryant would catch the balls thrown his way.
Hey Ashley, Do you think nnamdi asomugha is a little overrated? he's been picked on alot this year and hasn't been a shut down corner since coming to philly
I totally agree. I can give him a pass for last year, given the Eagles situation at corner and that they were asking him to do something he had never done in his career. But he seems this year to be giving up plays we didn't see him give up in Oakland. So no, Asomugha isn't the player the Eagles expected they were getting when they signed him. Does that make him overrated? Yep.
Will the jet brings in terrelll owens or Chad johnson since there receiving core is slim?
My colleague over at ESPNNewYork.com, Rich Cimini, is reporting that the Jets will not bring in Owens, according to one of his sources. It doesn't seem like they have interest in Johnson, either. That says a lot, because the Jets really need some help at receiver. I don't think bringing in either of those guys, who no other team wants, would be very smart.
Whats wrong with my packers this year? and can we turn it around?
That's a great question, and I wonder if the panic Packers fans are feeling after that Indianapolis loss would be less had Green Bay actually gotten the win over Seattle. They've be 3-2 and not 2-3. But the offense hasn't looked like the one that moved the ball so well last season. I'm not sure why. They're going to have a tough test against Houston but then they get St. Louis, Jacksonville and Arizona before the bye. I've got to think they'll win two if not three of those.
Who's the MVP so far this season?
If I were voting today, I'd vote for Matt Ryan (13 touchdowns, 3 picks, completing nearly 69 percent of his passes). No. 2 would be J.J. Watt. He's having an amazing season. Sacks, yes, obviously, but his knack for batting down passes is impressive.
Ashley, I feel that our thoughts and prayers should go out to the family of Alex Karras. May they receive peace in the days to come!
Well said, as usual, Al.
True or False, Michael Vick and Andy Reid are both gone at the end of the season?
It is too soon to make that call, Tony. Ask again in January. If the Eagles miss the playoffs, I would think that, yes, they would both be gone. But we're only in Week 6. The team is 3-2. They've got talent. They've just got to do a better job protecting the football. Vick's turnovers, particularly in the red zone, are a killer.
Ashley, do you have some Robitussin I can give Michael Vick to prevent him from coughing up the ball?
Can we stop with the Sanchize talk now? He was supposed to take the Eli Manning-leap in his 4th season just like Manning did but instead he's completing less than 50% of his passes this year. Is the experiment over?
I actually feel bad for Sanchez. I think Jets fans need to direct their displeasure at the front office and the head coach. They went into the season with one -- one -- playmaker at wide receiver. They don't have depth, they don't have a great running back, their offensive line is shaky. Sanchize will get the blame because that's what happens with quarterbacks, and he hasn't played particularly well, but I don't think it is all his fault.
RGIII better at this point in the season than Cam was last year?
Don't forget, Nick in Louisville, how hot Cam was to start last year. So I would say no. But, RGIII has more around him. The Redskins have more pieces. And last week he learned the essential lesson for a running quarterback: It is more important to get out of bounds than to get an extra yard. Live to play another down.
Hey i heard redskins released cundiff....who did they sign
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Redskins released Billy Cundiff, who went 2-for-6 the last two weeks, and signed former UCLA Kai Forbath. So the Redskins apparently will change kickers -- again.
Don't you think I'm better than AJ Green? I mean come on, look at the stats. My team is winning!
I don't know if you're better. You are helped out by having all that talent around you. A.J. Green doesn't have that luxury.
whats your opion matt cassel or brady quinn and whats your take on the reaction to the cassel injury by the fans.
I didn't like the reaction. Clearly, it is classless to cheer for any player getting injured. It is especially bad when that player plays for your team. Chiefs fans are frustrated, and it is understandable. Cassel has not played well. He's been a turnover machine. He's not the guy. But don't cheer the fact that he got hurt. Don't do that. And I don't think Brady Quinn is the answer.
Hi, Ashley. Do you think that, like the Falcons, the Vikings are also developing an arsenal of weapons? If you try to stop Adrian Peterson, you encounter Percy Harvin and vice versa. Your thoughts?
I don't think they are as loaded as the Falcons, but they're getting good play out of their tight ends and Harvin has been doing it all. They are lining him up all over the field and making defenses account for him on every single play. Talk about a weapon. I think you put the Vikings at 4-1 as one of the biggest surprises of the season. I didn't see that happening.
Well Ashley, your buddy T.O. is back again. Will you tell him to please stop begging for jobs, and move on?
san fran and ny this weekend? who ya got?
I haven't done my picks just yet, but I'm going to take San Francisco. I talked to Donte Whitner a couple of weeks ago, and he talked about having to listen to the Giants celebrating their NFC championship in the locker room next to the Niners'. It stung, and from the sound of it still stung. This 49ers team is better and will be motivated by revenge. It will be interesting to see if Randy Moss makes any sort of difference. Jim Harbaugh says it's only a matter of time before he does. Sounds to me like he was trying to prop Moss up a little bit.
are you surprise by the seasons Reggie Wayne is having?
Every time I looked at the Colts-Packers game, Wayne and his orange gloves were making a catch. It was unreal. He's been a great weapon for Andrew Luck. Proven vet. Knows how to run sharp routes and get open. I'm not surprised by Wayne, but I'm really impressed by Luck.
When will the steelers give up on troy, because he's missing too many games every year?
That's a good question. Obviously he tried to give it a go on Sunday against the Eagles and he couldn't. He's 31. Given his style of play, he's going to get injured and has. When he's healthy, he's a beast. So if you're the Steelers, when do you pull the plug? I'm not sure.
Andrew Luck beat us, pretty bad. eh?
Do you think Joe Philbin means that much, both to the Packers and to the Dolphins? Is he some savant who was just waiting to be discovered?
Waiting to be discovered? I'd say he's been discovered, don't you think? He's a head coach in the National Football League. But I hear you. I think the Dolphins and Philbin deserve credit for drafting Ryan Tannehill and giving him the starting job. He's getting better every week, which is what you want to see.
Why couldnt reggie bush play like this for saints?
When he said his goal was to lead the league in rushing, I thought he was nuts. He probably won't -- he's 10th right now averaging 83.4 yards per game, well behind Jamaal Charles at 110.2 -- but he is playing well. Just have to hope he can stay healthy.
How likely do you see the Raven's Terrel Suggs coming back this season? And if he does, what impact do you think he will make?
Well, the Ravens certainly think he will, otherwise they would've put him on IR. Can he have an impact when he comes back? That's a great question. He's an explosive player. That's a tough injury for a guy who plays the way Suggs does.
Do you think that what we saw from Alex Smith this past week was him improving or because he was playing against a very weak Bills Defense? Also, does it seem like Harbaugh is slowly working Kaep into the starting spot, or just using his physical talents.
A very weak Bills defense? Not sure I agree with that, but they aren't playing well. I think Alex Smith has improved. They're asking him to do more. Their use of Kaepernick is interesting and I think he will be the starter eventually. Not this season, though. Only unless Smith is injured. And Harbaugh said yesterday he is concerned about Smith's finger. So we'll see.
How about some talk about Mr. Drew Brees!
What's not to love about Drew Brees? He is one of the best. But don't forget, Tom Brady is going to surpass Unitas's record in what is it, 12 more games?
Long time reader of your articles, you rock! If Vick has another game of turnovers and the Eagles lose Sunday, do you see Reid make a change during the bye to get Nick Foles ready against the Falcons?
Thank you. I know this is all the talk in Philly -- I'm listening to Mike Missanelli as we speak -- but no, I don't think Reid will bench Vick for Foles, nor should he. He's going to go with Vick this season because Vick gives them the better option to win right now. And in Philly, it is all about winning right now. Vick has to hang on to the ball and not throw it to the other team. If he can do that, this team will be fine.
Who will prove to be the biggest USC QB flop when the dust clears on their careers, Matt Leinart or Mark Sanchez? Do you think this recent history will have an impact on Matt Barkley's stock at all?
Someone asked me this last week. Teams won't shy away from Barkley because of how Leinart or Sanchez has done in the NFL. It doesn't work that way. Teams will evaluate Barkley on his play and his potential. As for USC QB flops, you could throw Cassel in that pot.
What type of contract do you think flacco, romo, and ryan will get?
Flacco and Ryan will get big ones, when the time comes (Ryan's not up until after 2013, unlike Flacco). Romo isn't helping himself in that cause.
In my view I see Jim Harbaugh as a threat for me winning my conference out-right. What's his deal?
He's a pretty good coach, but you're more active on Twitter.
Hey Ashley, do you think the Texans are better than the 49ers?
Wow. I ranked the Texans No. 1 in our power rankings, so I suppose my answer should be yes. But I think we could see both of these teams in the Super Bowl, if they can stay healthy. If Cushing tore his ACL, as is suspected, that'd be a crushing blow.
I sincerely hope that Eric Winston and all these media people who are riding his wave don't go to MMA fights or buy the Pay-per-views and cheer when someone gets knocked out. Hypocrisy at its finest.
I have zero interest in MMA.
Do you agree with tim hasselback that percey harvin is the best all around player in the nfl?
Did he say that? Interesting. He is doing a lot for Minnesota, that's for sure. He's so dangerous as a returner, too.
Will Chris Johnson get traded at the end of this season?
Traded? Released maybe more like it.
Do you think the Texans could still make the Super Bowl without Cushing, or is that just too much to lose? I feel like the Texans are jinxed with injuries every year!
Yes, they can. But he would be a huge loss. They might -- might -- have made the Super Bowl last year were it not for injuries. They won a playoff game with their third-string quarterback. But yes, you've got to hate it for Cushing and the team if he's out for the year. Never like seeing that happen.
Alright, guys. Thanks for all the questions. We'll do it again next week. Have a great week.
