Chat with Mike Alvarado

Ahmed (Rochester, NY)

What do you think will happen in the fight?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:00 PM)

My strategy is just to stay strong, utilize my jab. Lot of lateral movements. Set traps. A lot of straight shots. Keeping him at the end of my jab.

Fernando g. Houston, tx [via mobile]

What boxer do you wish to fight that you might consider to be your "superbowl" fight?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:00 PM)

I think this fight here and now might measure up to that. And the winner of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight would reach that standard.

Kevin (CT)

what do you think of people calling this potentially the fight of the year?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:01 PM)

I'm excited about that. That's a good thing. I know that we are both exciting fighters. Everybody is looking forward to a great fight. An explosive, entertaining battle. It's exciting to see people excited about that fight. It makes me look forward to putting on a good performance.

Jeff (DC)

what are his strengths that you have to watch out for?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:02 PM)

His inside work. He's going to try and get inside me and work. His body shots. Decent right hand. Keep him outside. Keep him frustrated out of reach. Work his body, his main weakness.

Slater (West by God Virginia)

Let me start by saying I havent't looked forward to fight this much in a long time. My question for you is how do you mentally prepare yourself to be ready for this intense of a fight?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:03 PM)

I've always been ready to looking forward to fights like this. I've gotten more confidence with my mental gameplan and getting to where it needs to stay to prepare for a fight like this. I've always been ready for a challenging fight like this.

@JLC528 (Commerce City, Co)

What round are you going to KO this dude? I got a bet with our boy Rayshawn. He also thinks you need to fight Marquez next. I disagree. Who do you want next after you KO Rios. Oh and FYI North Denver will be live saturday night

Mike Alvarado
  (2:04 PM)

I'm not looking for a knockout, I'm going to go in there and do my best and put on a good performance. If it comes, it comes.

Ahmed (Rochester)

predictions for the donaire-noshiaka fight?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:05 PM)

I expect it to be a good fight. They're both great fighters. It will be a good exciting fight. Be prepared for a good battle in that fight as well.

Kris (NYC)

what do you think about people saying your fight should be the main event?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:06 PM)

I think a lot of people are going to see my fight, but Nonito, they're going to fight for a 12-round title fight. They deserve that spot. But we're going to put on a good fight. Both fights will be good to watch. I'm cool with it.

Alfredo Estrada (Bell ca)

how will you break brandon rios down? during the fight?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:06 PM)

I'm going to stay strong. My strength and conditioning and boxing skills are as superb as they have been. I'm going to pick him apart and take him down when I have to.

Adrian Zamora (Yuma. Az)

How many rounds of sparring did you do to prepared you for this fight

Mike Alvarado
  (2:07 PM)

A lot of rounds. I didn't keep track of it exactly, but enough rounds to be prepared for this fight.

Pat (Denver, Colorado)

What do you think in your mind do you think you need to do to beat Rio? What are your strengths in this match?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:08 PM)

My strengths are my will. My strength. My speed. My boxing ability. My legs. My footwork. It's all coming together. Everything's on point for this fight.

Chris (Detroit)

Did you see any things in Rios' fight with Abril--a fight most believe abril should have won-- that you plan on using in this fight?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:09 PM)

Yeah, he has trouble with guys that move on him. And his weight is really another issue. That had an effect on him in that fight. Hopefully he comes on weight and is ready for someone who can adjust and make it more of a boxing match rather than just a tough fight that he's expecting.

Jayden (Thornton, CO)

Do you see a potential fight with Danny Garcia down the road?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:10 PM)

I would be willing for a fight like that. If Golden Boy and Top Rank put aside their little confrontation and allow that fight to happen, I'd be willing for a fight like that.

Ahmed (Rochester)

When do u think u'll get a title shot?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:10 PM)

After this fight. This is for a title eliminator with the WBO. After this fight, we're looking for a title shot.

Chris Anderson (Sacramento)

Hey mike do you believe you have an advantage in this fight because brandon rios has trouble making any weight class because he just naturally heavy?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:11 PM)

I'm not expecting to have those advantages, but I believe that I have the advantage because I'm a bigger fighter than he's ever faced, strength wise and just naturally bigger in this division.

@JLC528 (Commerce City, Co)

Do you feel like you are getting the attention you deserve? And can you feel the love from your hometown like you think you should?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:12 PM)

I feel I haven't in this weight class. I know after this fight, people will know and will see and I will be talked about. I'm starting to get some more attention know that I'm fighting someone who is undefeated and has the exposure. This the fight I need.

Pat (Denver, Colorado)

Since you a well known boxer out of the State of Colorado. How has life change for you? And do you like how much your loved and supported in Colorado?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:13 PM)

I'm overwhelmed with it all. It's amazing to know that I have my hometown supporting me the way they are. It motivates me more. I feel good about it. It gives me more motivation and confidence going into this fight.

Robert (Mile high)

What do you think about arum mentioning you vs PAC after you win?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:14 PM)

That would be a fight that I would love to have. Not looking past Brandon, that's the fight I'm focused on. God willing, that fight will happen. That's a fight that the winner of this fight leads to. I'm excited about it.

Mikey (Miami)

With your wrestling background, did you ever consider going the MMA route?

Mike Alvarado
  (2:15 PM)

I never considered going into MMA, because when I finished high school, MMA wasn't big at the time, so I pursued boxing. Maybe if MMA was as big as it was now, I would have taken MMA up before boxing. But I feel that boxing was what I was meant to do, so even with MMA, I might still have taken up boxing. I feel like it's my place to be.

Mike Alvarado
  (2:15 PM)

Thank you for all of the support from my fans. Look forward to a great performance. God bless everyone.
