Guys...Jurko is running a bit behind. Hang tight and we'll get the chat going as soon as possible!
Hey guys, unfortunately we're going to have to cancel the chat as Jurko is unavailable. But we will take the questions you posted and have Jurko answer them, and post them on ESPN Chicago's Bears Blog. Thanks for your patience.
Hang on! Jurko just called in and he loves you -- he apologizes for the delay. Here we go...
Jurko - How did Cutler come off in person when you saw him this week?
He's fine. Not different than any other athlete I've been around. He's personable and friendly. Like most guys, he doesn't suffer fools gladly.
Is it common for players to travel during the bye week?
Yes, everybody gets days off. It's totally normal. Guys go to Vegas, Bahamas, etc.
What are the chances the Bears pick up Ochocinco, Burress, or Owens?
None. No interest in aging, old vets that can't run anymore. Let them go.
Yo, jurko! Super-Bowl talk time yet?
Time to make reservations for the French Quarter. Joking, but there's definitely a chance.
Why do you think Emery isn't interested in Plaxico Burress? He'd be a great target for Cutler in the red zone and seems like a low risk unless he was a problem in the locker room.
I'm not interested in any wide receivers that aren't part of the Bears organization. These guys are on the street for a reason. I think Emery knows they're not good.
I know Melton needs a new contract, but is it also time to start looking at extending Lance Louis? Is it just me or is he our best OLmen this season?
Depends how many years are left on his deal. I think Lance Louis has been the most consistent this year for the beloved.
Hey Jurko, So the line looks great,Urlacher seems to have lost a step, and Briggs has seemed to hit another notch. Who's your most disappointing player on that defense?
I'd say Peppers. But only because he's playing hurt. Teams are going to figure out he's not 100% very soon.
Am I wrong to think that the bears safeties are bound to be exposed at some point? Are Wright and Conte really that much improved or is the explosive pass rush making their jobs that much easier?
Pass rush is making their jobs that much easier, and smartly they are not getting beat deep, which was the problem last year.
Is there something the offense can change to come out the gate firing? Or do you is is more of a chemistry thing?
I think it's just a matter of adjusting over the course of time. Once they do that the Bears' offense will start playing better and be more consistent.
How good is the Bears D compare to 49ers and Texans?
The Niners D is monstrous. They are younger than the Bears. So it's a little different there. For Houston, Cushing's injury really will hurt. But I'd go Niners, Bears then Texans.
Is having the bye week now a positive or negative in your mind? I like having a week to prepare for an under achieving team that has trap written all over it, but Marshall and Cutler were just getting on a role...
I think it's a positive, it's exactly at the halfway point if you include preseason. I think's it a perfect time for the Bears.
Jurk,The past few years we have seen positive changes following the bye, especially from the offense (Martz intervention). What kind of changes or wrinkles do you see being added following the bye this year? Or, is it a matter of simply cleaning up internally?
They'll just be looking at cleaning a few things up during the bye, which is all I think they need to do and they'll be fine.
Better live event, The Jay Cutler Show with Small Hands Silvy or The Mike Ditka Show with Carmen and the Tiny One?
Better show? Da Coach with Carmen, the Tiny One and yours truly. Bearsssss.
Jurko as a former DLmen is what were seeing from Cory Wootton legit? He looked explosive in some of his rushes this season.
It's legit in what you seen in the pass rush, but when you're only playing a limited amount of snaps you don't what a player truly is. Just like Mark Anderson had 12 sacks playing very little. He became a starter and couldn't play anymore.
J.Webb has much improved since Cutler voiced his frustrations. What has changed? His technique? Mentality?
He finally realized people weren't going to put up with his BS anymore. And the offense is also much more balanced, which helps a lot.
Do you still feel confident we can get to 7-1 by houston? Will we have alshon back by then?
Alshon will be gone until week 11. There's a good chance the Bears will be 7-1 at that time since they have Detroit, Carolina and Tennessee.
Who would you rather have as a QB for your team, Romo or Cutler?
History would tell me I would rather have Romo, but Cutler is maturing as a player, so it's becoming more of a toss-up than it was in the past.
Barring injuries, does this team make a deep playoff run, or even win the SB? Could this be the year?
It's all predicated on staying healthy. If they stay healthy they have a good chance. If they don't that have no chance.
Bye week and in upstate NY any ideas what I can do up here this weekend without Bears football?
I would go hiking. Maybe some biking. Whatever is to your liking.
5 games into the season who are your Bears studs and duds so far?
A little early for that. But since you asked, Briggs is a stud, Melton has played well and Brandon Marshall has been the beast we thought he would be.
Jurko- Maybe you can shed some light on what no one else seems to think is important to talk about. What is the deal with Peppers' injuries? Does he really have plantar fasciitis? How bad is it? This type of injury has essentially ended Antonio Gates' days as as an elite tight end. What is the deal with his ankle? Looking for answers....
I think he has a number of different injuries and I think they are focusing on the lower leg injury, whether it's ankle or plantar fascitis. I think he is banged up and just getting older. It should be a major concern to Bears fans.
In the current state of the NFL, do you believe a good offense beats a good defense or vice versa?
I believe the good defense will beat the good offense every time. But I also believe that being able to run the ball is less imperative than it has been in the past.
Jurko - Who was the nastiest teammate you played with?
On the field it was Dan Marino on the offense and Reggie White on defense. Th toughest guys I ever played with and against.
Week 15, if both teams are healthy, who wins in Chicago: Bears or Packers and why?
The game is at home and the Packers will succumb to the Bears pressure for an early Christmas gift to all the fans.
whats the chance of bears making trades to upgrade on o-line
No trade will be made even though the deadline has been extended. I don't see the Bears making any trades at all. Still too many salary cap implications.
Whos should I start in Fantacy: Reggie Bush or Reshard Mendenhal?
Mr. Mendenhall. He can score via the pass and run, and I think Pitt has a more high-powered offense.
What did you use to do during your bye week?
I used to go back to Cal City and eat gyros, and go to Vicky's Melody Tap, which is no longer there.
Why do you think Jay gets so much bad publicity? Do you think any of it is deserved? Or is he a totally different guy off the field?
I think he gets bad pub because of his demeanor. But I promise you it doesn't bother him a bit. As long as the guys in the Bears organization and the players on the team respect him, that's all that matters.
Enjoy the weekend and get ready to winterize your home. It is upon us. Listen to yours truly with Carm and the Tiny One today after the game. We will have Da Coach and The Mike Ditka Show at 5pm. Bearssss!
