What's up, everybody? Let's get started? What's on your minds?
David, Do you think the Sooners have a shot at beating the Irish in 2 weeks?
Most definitely, especially if they continue to play the way they have the past two weeks. Should be a great game.
Do you see another Tech collapse for the second half of the season like last year? I say no way, but your thoughts?
No, we won't see a collapse. There are still a few (or a couple) more losses in store, but this team is a lot different than last year's, and nowhere near as banged up.
Where's my heisman love?
Three picks in a blowout loss to Oklahoma takes more than one big game to make up for when it comes to Heisman stock.
Yo Ubs, saw you at the Lubbock airport this weekend and thought about saying hi but didn't want to bother you. Honestly, what's your policy on this?
Ha, I usually don't mind unless I'm busy or you want to have a 30-minute conversation.
Just go ahead and do it Ubben, give Techs Defense some love.
Been doing it all week. A great shot to prove itself as the Big 12's best defense over the course of the season. Oklahoma's No. 1 for me right now. Iowa State No. 2. TCU No. 3. Tech No. 4. Kansas State is right there in the mix, too. Love what the Red Raiders are doing defensively.
DUbb step... TCU's defense played pretty well on Saturday minus a few big plays by Terrance Williams who is just a game breaker. I know Doege can play, but does Tech have playmakers to blow the top off the defense?
No, that game's going to be sneaky-low scoring. Texas Tech's offense is good, but not as good as WVU made it look. I'm still not sold on Trevone Boykin. Baylor's defense is terrible, too. This game might be in the 20s, but Tech doesn't need to break big plays. It can work underneath and move the ball consistently.
Over/Under 1.5 wins for Tech in the next 3 games (@TCU, @KSU, UT).
Ubbs, the RRR was a soul-crushing defeat that has me questioning whether's Mack Brown's the guy. I appreciate all he's done for the program and understand he's probably the best solution for the rest of this year, but I don't understand how he can possible justify like he did following the loss that he has no plans to retire?
What an unbelievable overreaction this week by the folks in Texas. Look, Texas is still young and still building with a new staff. The pieces are in place, but Texas loses one close game to WVU and gets blown out once and everybody's ready to call the rebuilding project a failure? Gimme a break. Ugly loss. If Texas continues to slide and only wins 7-8 games this year, then Mack will be feeling a little heat going into next year, but far too many generalizations have been drawn based on one awful loss.
If Kstate beats WV soundly this weekend do they move up at all in the BCS?
It's possible. I assume you mean if everyone above them continues to win. Win or lose, what Bama, UF and Oregon do matters. A blowout would certainly help. My guess is no, though.
A lot of people are saying it was more of what WVU did to themselves than what Tech did this weekend. You were there, what do you say to that?
Well, WVU wasn't sharp at all, and I do believe the wind affected the offense's heads more than the ball itself. Tech's defense was a big part of it, too. Tech covered well and didn't have many busts defensively. That's a pretty good day. It doesn't have to be one or the other. There was a lot of both. Tech played really, really well defensively.
Am I still on the hot seat?
That's a big ol' no.
Hey Dubbs. I write with such a heavy depressed heart. I really thought we would beat the Frogs. Now food has no taste and everything is a dull gray color. Is there any hope for my Bears? Will we even go bowlin?
I thought Baylor would roll in that game, too, BU. I do think Baylor reaches a bowl, but in this league, unless you're a top team, that's not guaranteed. You've got to play well every week. Play like you did against TCU and no, Baylor won't be bowling.
If I don't throw it to the other team this coming Saturday, do you think we can make it 3 in a row against the horns?
Absolutely. Ash isn't healthy and I don't think Case McCoy can do what Ash has done prior to last week's disaster vs. OU.
How many QBs in the big 12 are better than Jantz/Barnett. Probably all 9 starters and Bell ad McCoy at least right. How frustrating must it be for Rhoads and Co that they can't get an average offense to go with that defense?
No, I don't buy that. Iowa State's QBs are both better than KU's. The offense is based on the ground, and ISU's been running the ball well enough to win, based on what the defense can do. Certainly they'd want to be better, but ISU's offense isn't as bad as it feels sometimes. K-State's D and Texas Tech's are both really, really good.
How much of ISU's poor offensive production in the conference games can be attributed to the fact that we've faced 3 of the top 4 opposing defenses (other than OU) in the conference? Surely heading into games against weaker defenses, there will be an uptick in performance, won't there?
Speak of the devil. Well said, Craig. That has a lot to do with it, and I do think you'll see an uptick.
Do you see Texas Tech going 10-2 or 9-3?? Cotton Bowl versus Texas A&M would be a huge game in Dallas possibly!
I'm not sure I buy the 10-2 possibility, but nine wins is definitely in play. Cotton Bowl could happen.
David,In your opinion, what is the worst Geno could do this weekend & keep his lead in the Heisman race?
Hmm, well he absolutely has to win. If he makes some plays late to win it, he can get away with a lot more. That's a tough question. I'd say as long as he wins, he could complete about 50 percent of his passes and three picks and still hang on to the lead. Part of it is his lack of solid competition. Braxton Miller is great, but can he do it every week?
Who is the most overrated team in the Big 12 this year?
To this point, either Iowa State or Texas. Decent teams, the both of them. Top 25 teams? Consider me skeptical. Both are ranked by the BCS.
Is the atmosphere at Jones Stadium top 3 in the conference?
Yeah, definitely. It was hopping on Saturday afternoon, too. Funny how when you're beating up on a top five team, fans seem to enjoy it.
Looking at the rest of K-State's schedule I don't see a single gimme for them, do you?
Nope. And that's the case for everybody in the league. Even KU has played TCU and Oklahoma State tough.
Does Arthur Brown have a good shot a Big 12 Def player of the YR..
Definitely in the mix. Right now, I'm giving it to Devonte Fields. Both of Iowa State's linebackers will be right there. Texas' Jackson Jeffcoat would have been, but Alex Okafor could get in there, too. Look out for Oklahoma's Tony Jefferson and Aaron Colvin, too.
Local radio today had lots of discussion about the supposed end of the Mack Brown era. Is this really a thing?
West Virginia's honeymoon is clearly over, how many more losses do you see them having at year's end?
One or two.
Why did I throw to TCU so much this weekend?
You're not the first one. TCU leads the nation with 14 picks this year. Rough night for Florence, but he'll bounce back.
If K-State played Alabama right now, what would be the outcome?
Roll Tide Roll.
It's on fire, please evacuate!
Ha. I tweeted it this weekend, but I'll say it again: Beware any team whose best resume highlight is a loss. Baylor looked good against WVU. Didn't really tell us much now, did it?
Do you agree with Oklahoma State being a 14 pt favorite over the cyclones, seems a little steep to me
Way too steep.
Do you think Chad Glasgow's "internship" at Tech last year will give TCU some insight into Tech's strengths, weaknesses, and gameplan?
Interesting storyline that's been pretty underreported this week, I think. Haven't seen much of anything written about it. I do think he'll have some insight into the schemes and personnel, but we'll see how much advantage it gives the Frogs.
I know the Golden Hat is the traditional trophy, but how many more wins do I need to reel off, before we can make it the Golden Visor?
Ha. Probably quite a few.
TTU Vs. TCU , which offense has more turnovers?
How did you enjoy your trip to Lubbock? Care to elaborate on the ride in the back seat of a patrol car?
Haha. A Twitter follower, I see. I flew in on the day of the game and got to the stadium before the media shuttle was running. Convinced a kind policeman to give me a ride to the stadium. It's a pretty long haul from the media lot. Protect and serve, indeed.
Is TTU trying to create a rivalry with WVU or are the unneccessarily stirring the pot?
I don't know what the deal is there. I don't think it's some plot. I think Cody Davis was fired up at some perceived slights, intended or not. WVU definitely plays with a lot of swagger and confidence. It's worked pretty well so far, I'd say. Can rub some people the wrong way, especially opponents and opposing fans.
TCU needs to __________ in order to win this week at home against TTech. Go. Also, not sure if you heard but Maponga is day-to-day and will need surgery at the end of the year. What else could possibly go wrong?
Score in the red zone. Just a terrible season of injuries and other issues for TCU. Gary Patterson will have a few more gray hairs at the end of this one, I'd say. Ridiculously unlucky.
Yes or no: will KU win another game in 2012?
My gut says yes, but I don't see who they'll beat. I think they'll pull the surprise at some point, but I'm not picking it.
Chances WVU gets to 11-1?
Definitely possible, but the defense has to figure out what the heck is going on. The offense will be fine. It was a bad day. The defense isn't giving them a chance or any margin of error.
Jace Amaro is becoming a big weapon for TT. He's big and sneakily fast. Do you see him as a possible NFL starter by the end of his career?
Yeah, I love what Amaro's been able to do. He's likely out this weekend with a rib injury, but guys like him are pretty rare in this league and in the country. Will have to learn how to block at the next level, but he's got NFL skills.
More impressive: my jump or the fact Geno Smith hasn't thrown a pick yet?
Haha, gotta go with Felix on this one.
All this talk about the wind in West Texas, how come Doege threw for 500 yards and I only threw for 275. Maybe he's used to it, maybe not but I thought I was the HEISMAN frontrunner by a long shot and most people can't even pronounce his name...
I think there's something to the idea that Doege is used to it. Granted, I watched Brandon Weeden walk into winds that were twice what was in Lubbock last week and throw for about 435 against Tech last year. He looked perfect.
Who is the most under rated team in the big 12?
Oklahoma State? No huge candidates. I think the Pokes will rebound in the second half with Wes Lunt back.
With Tech WR's Ward, Moore, Grant, Amaro, Torres, Williams...etc. all producing at a high level, is it time to bring back the AFROS moniker that was adopted by Tech in the early 2000's? America's Finest Receivers On Saturday
Haha, please bring that back. Outstanding.
Most disrespected team in the country?
Yeah, I'd say that sounds about right. Still not a lot of respect for the Wildcats.
Do you think the TTU fiasco will cripple WVU's recruiting efforts in Texas?
No. That's ridiculous. One game. Winning at the state's flagship school means nothing?
Odds K-State wins this Saturday in Morgantown?
50/50 tossup, the way I see it.
That's it for today. Thanks for coming. See you next week!
