Fantasy Injuries with Stephania Bell

Stephania Bell
  (3:03 PM)

Happy Tuesday everyone, hope all is well. Lots of big defensive injuries this week, especially over in Ravens camp. Injuries to my pride with a big 49er loss. But move on we must, so here we go...

Steve (Chicago)

Hi Stephania, I'm pulling for your Giants to beat the Cards to silence my bragging relatives in St. Louis. Any reason to worry about Jimmy Graham this week? I picked up Heath Miller to fill in for Graham during the bye week and like to only keep 1 TE on my roster. Thanks!

Stephania Bell
  (3:08 PM)

Hi Steve: Well the Giants could use all the cheerleading. Last night was great but there's a ways to go against a very resilient Cardinals team. Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune said Monday there would be no update from the team until Wednesday practice (they don't give any while on bye either). There have been some rumors floating about Graham and high ankle, but I have yet to hear anything definitive. We know he was in a boot after the game but that doesn't tell us much. The safe thing is to have a backup ready and know that if it is a high ankle, you're looking at prob 4 weeks.

justin (milwaukee)

is pierre garcon's injury ever going to heal? he seems to either get worse or be ineffective when he does play.

Stephania Bell
  (3:11 PM)

Justin: I think it is, maybe now that he's essentially being told to sit and rest it and let it get better, when he does come back it will be different. A recent MRI showed inflammation around the capsule at the base of his second toe, so every time he extends it with weight on it (which is every time he pushes off), it hurts. The pain then prevents him from moving normally, which is why he runs slower and can't break off a straight line easily. No idea how long he's out but it sounds like it will be a couple weeks at least. I see a decent second half from him but he has to let it get better this time.

chris (nj)

Is Trent Richardson ok for Sunday?

Stephania Bell
  (3:13 PM)

Chris: He would like you to think so. They'r calling it day-to-day. He says he plays but we also know how painful rib injuries are. Needs to show some improvement by late in the week in order to go. Thankfully no broken ribs so chances of him playing are improved.

Red (Miami)

Did you beat Matthew Berry this week??

Stephania Bell
  (3:14 PM)

Red: NO! Very upsetting. Lost by 7. All because of RG3's ridiculous performance. Now I have to listen to him all week...

Matt (Philly)

Any word on how Nicks is feeling after playing this past week? No setbacks?

Stephania Bell
  (3:16 PM)

Matt: He said he felt pretty good after the game, as in no setback. He did say that during the game he felt the knee, knew he wasn't running 100 percent, but also gave the impression that it will be better this week. My takeaway is that the foot was not the limiting factor, the knee is. If the knee continues to improve, his performance should go way up within a couple weeks.

Nando (Boston)

Demarco Murray is more than likely out this week right?

Stephania Bell
  (3:18 PM)

Nando: He's out this week. Jerry Jones confirmed. The question is how many more weeks. They say no surgery - it's a foot sprain - and these can be all over the place, but I expect it to be multiple weeks.

henrik (NY)

What is the update on Lance Moore?

Stephania Bell
  (3:19 PM)

Henrik: Same category as Graham. Team giving no updates until Weds.

Thomas (Montana)

Any news on Mendenhall?

Stephania Bell
  (3:22 PM)

Thomas: All indications were that it was minor. His removal from the game was precautionary and he said his Achilles was just "irritated." Despite the downplay, the issue becomes whether he can really do enough in practice to convince the medical folks this is a non-issue and he can play. THen if he does play, are they more aware of his workload given this incident and controlling his snaps. Will be interesting to see what he does during the week but I would plan on either a more limited role or absence this week as they try to make sure this does not become a full blown problem.

Matt (Islamorada)

RG3 killed me too! Stepahnia, would you be scrambling to find a replacement if you had Brandon Lloyd on your team?

Stephania Bell
  (3:25 PM)

Matt: Don't know about scrambling...but I'd make sure I had someone. Bruised is better than "separated" although a bad bruise can make it tough to lift your arm overhead. THe Patriots are good about getting a guy through the week on limited practice reps and trying to get him ready for the weekend. Don't get the immediate sense he's in jeopardy but why not be prepared with a backup just in case.

Gerry (Boston)

Any news on Aaron Hernandez? Everything okay after the game? No Swelling or Setbacks that we need to worry about?

Stephania Bell
  (3:25 PM)

Gerry: No reported post-game issues. I actually thought he looked pretty good in the game too for the snaps he played.

Pamela (Princeton, NJ)

Will you please provide some information about Best? When can he next take the test? Can he suit up immediately following a passing grade? Any gut feeling whether he plays this season? He has had a year to think about it and he should be able to decide for himself whether to play. Playing football is what he's good at doing and is the career that will pay him the most by far, yet he is currently aging on the shelf. It's a shame.

Stephania Bell
  (3:28 PM)

Pamela: Hate to break it to you but I think he may be done. It's not worth risking your future when you're 24 years old. I know he still wants to play but even if HE does, there may not be a team that's willing to play him. When a team of medical consultants all agree that he should not return - and it's been a year since the injury - it makes you wonder if he's hit a plateau. For all the NFL has been criticized about how they've handled these injuries in the past and with litigation looming, I find it hard to believe anyone would be comfortable having him suit up. Maybe something changes in the future but I'm not optimistic.

matt (theOC)

how would you feel about sending K. Britt out there as your WR3?

Stephania Bell
  (3:30 PM)

Matt: The team seems to think he's past his injuries and the dropsies were the result of his lack of practice and play. Wish I was that confident. It doesn't sound like the team is going to hold back and I suppose if you've got him you insert him as a WR2 or flex but I'm not confident he goes rest of season without an injury, based on history.

Alex (SD,CA)

I haven't read too much about Bolden's injury. Do you think he plays this week?

Stephania Bell
  (3:33 PM)

Alex: You haven't seen much b/c they haven't said anything, including after the game where he appeared to aggravate his knee. He's been listed on the injury report because of his knee before this so I certainly expect him to stay on it but as far as whether it affects his status, he could end up with a "q" just like most of their other guys.

Sleepless (GB)

Greg Jennings coming back this week?

Stephania Bell
  (3:35 PM)

Sleepless: I'd be surprised if he did. Remember he said he wasn't returning until he was 100% and when it was clear he would be out last week, McCarthy said he wouldn't even test it until late this week. That would suggest no updates until late and to me, a low likelihood that he returns.

Nick (S.Carolina)

Any news on Vincent Brown? Not much out there on his return and his ability to practice since he was able to start working with the team Monday.

Stephania Bell
  (3:37 PM)

NicK: And there won't be. They played Monday night so he did nothing with them. Off today. On bye this week. No reason for them to update his status at all. So far we heard he was "on track" and that all was going well with rehab. Consensus seems to be that if practice goes well, he will play on 11/1. But don't expect to hear much until next week.

Bill (KC)

Hey Stephania. What is your gut feeling on trading away Fred Jackson for DeMarco? Think it's a good buy low on Murray?

Stephania Bell
  (3:37 PM)

Bill: No. I would not make a trade for DeMarco given the uncertainty. And Fred Jackson just had his best week since the injury.

Jacob (Lancaster)

Where are we at with Danny Amendola?

Stephania Bell
  (3:39 PM)

Jacob: Nowhere special. After the intial bad news of the injury, the report was he could return in a month if all went well. That seemed a little quick to me but at this point we're only just over a week since the injury. Prob not much new until after Week 8.

Chris (Montclair)

I have tickets to this gala in NYC tonight celebrating Little Steven. Supposedly Springsteen will be there and ha huge musical jam session. AND NO ONE WANTS TO GO!!!

Stephania Bell
  (3:40 PM)

CHris: Um, I do.

Allison (SF)

Hi Stephania, what is going on with J. Finley? Is he hurt or not?

Stephania Bell
  (3:43 PM)

Allison: (In my favorite city) He was hurt going into last Sunday night's game, but not badly enough that he couldn't play. He just hasn't been a factor in the offense for weeks now. We've heard him gripe publicly and then he had the shoulder. Don't know where the ultimate "issue" is but he hasn't been very good for fantasy owners at all.

Luke (NH)

Stephania, is Marshawn Lynch still dealing with back issues? Didn't seem all that effective this past week.

Stephania Bell
  (3:44 PM)

Luke: Not overtly. In other words, it's not a major factor but the Seahawks are limiting his practice reps to help ensure that he doesn't risk flaring it up. But it doesn't seem to be bothering him in the way it was in the preseason.

Kyle (Minneapolis)

What's going on with Jerome Simpson?

Stephania Bell
  (3:46 PM)

Kyle: The weakness in his leg is still an issue. Apparently he was surprised by his deactivation last week but Frazier felt like he wasn't pushing off the leg the same and didn't want to chance it. I'm not convinced it's 100% resolved but if his symptoms improve this week it looks like he ha a chance to play.

Charlie (Richmond)

Charles has a bad back? Him and Lynch look great in my backfield!

Stephania Bell
  (3:49 PM)

Charlie: They're calling it a bruised back but they're also on bye, so doesn't sound like a big worry.

James (Seattle)

What happen with LaRod and Powell? Wasn't LaRod supposed to be having the majority of the load?!

Stephania Bell
  (3:50 PM)

James: It's what one of my fantasy teams was hoping for. Didn't exactly pan out. Powell had the better day...and may have gotten himself an advantage.

john (mass)

Afternoon Stephania! what do u hear about ABradshaw? is he all right for this wk? thx

Stephania Bell
  (3:50 PM)

John: afternnon! reports are all good. He sure has looked great since coming back. No issues.

Kellen Murphy (Richmond VA)

Is Gronk still sore his numbers seem to be dropping

Stephania Bell
  (3:51 PM)

Kellen: Yes, he is. Playing through it but not totally healthy.

Nate (NJ)

Huge fan Steph. Please provide an update on AP's ankle injury. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Stephania Bell
  (3:53 PM)

Nate: So nice, so polite. Thank you. Don't think it's really an issue. Soreness perhaps, maybe some limited reps in practice, but nothing of concern. Other than we'd like him to get some TDs.

arnold (at work)

any update on daniel thomas? is he even worth a roster spot at this point?

Stephania Bell
  (3:53 PM)

No. And no.

Rob (Kansas City)

I am looking at Hasselback for week 8 as I have Flacco on a bye and Stafford plays Seattle (not sure it really matters who Stafford is playing these days). Do you think Hasselback is still starting in week 8?

Stephania Bell
  (3:54 PM)

Rob: Interesting. They've already ruled Locker out for this week but they say they think he could return next week. Obviously they don't know for sure - my worry is that he will dislocate again, it's just a matter of time - but you can't count on Hasselbeck for sure at this point.

Andrew (Minnesota)

Stephania, any bad news on Percy Harvin? He was limping some after the game on Sunday.

Stephania Bell
  (3:55 PM)

Andrew: No, just sore, otherwise fine.

Thomas (WA)

Is Stafford hurt (or just playing like it)? Didn't he have a hip issue or something earlier? He sure isn't playing up to ADP. What's your take for the rest of the year?

Stephania Bell
  (3:55 PM)

Thomas: Maybe in the banged up sense, but nothing anyone will admit to as being significant. And definitely struggling.

Eggman (w/The Walrus)

Stephania do u think PRivers has a throwing shoulder issue? sure couldn't throw deep very well last night! thx

Stephania Bell
  (3:57 PM)

No. This is what the talk was last year when he was struggling and nothing really came of it. Just think he's making some poor decisions. Some of the deep balls looked wobbly but think it was more bad feet and rushed throwing than true "injury"

RJ (Center Line, MI)

Heard anything about Donald Brown?

Stephania Bell
  (3:57 PM)

RJ: Nope. Probably won't until he's returning to practice.

Jacob Conley (Maine )

Hey Steph, I have the following running backs Richardson, Lynch, and Martin. I only have one roster spot available so I was wondering who's hand cuff should I pick up?

Stephania Bell
  (3:58 PM)

Jacob: Pick up Hardesty. Widely available and chance Richardson doesn't play this week.

Stephania Bell
  (3:58 PM)

OK gang - have to run. Thanks so much for coming. See you here on Friday!!
