Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!
KC, what's the deal with Vernon Davis getting completely shut out last night? Was it just good defense or is Smith not looking his way? He is probably the biggest play maker on that team and after the first few weeks, his red zone targets have dropped. What gives?
It might have more than a bit to do with the Seattle secondary being really, really good. And SF was finding running lanes and therefore didn't need him for dink/dunk passes. And Smith was having a bad night in many ways and SF didn't want to lean on him.
Scientist, are their PPR rankings anywhere on ESPN? I have to decide between Chris Johsnon or Mike Wallace? Also I feel cursed this year I'm 3-3 but have almost 100 more pts. than anyone else in the league and twice I've had the 2nd most pts. in a week only to lose to the guy with the most (last week Aaron freakin Rodgers 6tds!! and a couple weeks back when Bush ran for over 200 yds and a couple scores) I need some good mojo KC, cause I'm starting to feel curesd!
To paraphrase that movie - if you score points, the wins will come. Wallace rates higher on the start-sit charts, so put him in the lineup.
Need some deep sleepers at RB with some upside?
How about Blount? He was quite productive last time out and has a very favorable matchup.
Hi KC. I dealt future HOF (snark!) Shonn Greene for CJ Spiller - no regrets here, right?
No regrets at all - that was a very good trade high move.
Demarco Murray owner here and I couldnt get Felix. Should I drop Ballard for Tanner for insurance purposes?
Both of those two are short term solutions but Ballard will probably be the lead RB in Indy. Would probably keep him.
TFS you got Vick Ballard or Kendall Wright in the flex this week?
Ballard really played poorly last week, so he's listed as a longshot candidate on this week's start-sit charts. Wright has a higher rating so he wins this one.
Just curious do you still feel Mike Wallace is the best WR in the NFL or has your opinion changed with the emergence of guys like AJ Green and Percy Harvin?
Harvin is a RB playing WR, so he's not the best wideout. Green would probably get my vote right now but Wallace is right next to him in terms of talent. He's just stuck in an offense that won't use him vertically as often as it should.
TD heavy scoring: M.Williams, A.Brown, or K.Britt (all good matchups)? & drop Kerley for Vincent Brown or J.Simpson?
Got Brown rated the highest this week. In a TD heavy league, Simpson is the best pick of that trio. The charts are part of a subscription service sold on my site - www.thefootballscientist.com Just click on the bookstore link for more info (only site plug of the chat).
Worth stashing Jahvid Best or is he finished this year?
It was announced this week that Best will not return for the 2012 season. He can be dropped.
How would you feel about a trade that results in my owning Matt Ryan, Julio, and Roddy? Does that put me too much at the mercy of the Falcons' game flow each week?
Yeah, but Atlanta has been and will be a pass-first team the rest of this year. As long as the trade price is fair, it's a good move.
better speculative WR pickup for ROS in standard scoring: Stephen Hill or Vincent Brown?
Used to have a Jake the Snake t-shirt back in the day. Hill is the choice there if only because he's a starter on his team.
Is Danny Amendola worth a stash...would drop either Daryl Richardson or Hawkins?
Only if the league is a PPR league. In a standard league, Richardson is the choice.
I've tried to buy the charts before and can never find them on your site. Should make it more obvious. Product is so good~
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll put a link to the charts on the front page after the chat is over.
Link to the order page, that is.
KC, I need a win this week or my season is pretty much over if I'm stuck at 1-6 in a 12 team standard league. Can you provide your excellent knowledge and recommend 2WRs, 1 RB and 1 Flex from the following: MAustin, KBritt, SJohnson, MLeshoure or AGreen? Also, I'm leaning to Luck but being in Chicago, I'd love to have Stafford for MNF? Why am I leaning towards Staff with such a bad matchup???
At a quick glance, Austin, Britt and Green would be the ways to do. Got Luck rated higher than Stafford this week.
What's the deal with Donald Brown? Can I expect him back? Or should I cut him and move on.
Last word I heard is that he was due back in another week or so. He'll be the lead back there when healthy, so don't cut him unless you are getting someone good in his place.
KC I'm probably going to play on Sunday, but if I don't who should my owners pick up off the wire?
Maybe Brandon Myers. He doesn't get into the end zone but he does get his share of receptions and yards.
Calvin Johnson > Wallace or Green
Yeah, but he wasn't on the list.
Strategy question a?? Owning a QB like Flacco in a potentially tough matchup & Torrey Smith, would you consider benching Smith when you have comparable backups like Britt, M Williams (TB) and Antonio Brown for a a??safea?ý start?
Brown rates just a bit higher than Smith on the WR start-sit charts, but not by much. Still, it's probably a good idea to only start one player against what still is a tough D.
I'm better than all 3.
If only you had a QB...
KC- am I crazy to think D-MAC has a chance to be the #1 RB from here on out?
Still mad about last night's game? DMC should have a great game this week and Oakland has a slew of favorable run matchups the rest of the season. He's a great trade target.
KC!! Flex Question: Would you start Tanner or Kerley? .05 ppr league. Or do you take a flyer on Baron Batch with the latest news that Redman and Mendenhall will more than likely be out? Or should i pick up Stephen hill?
I'd take the flyer on Batch.
Start Dalton against my opponent's DST or Ponder against my DST?
Dalton rates higher on the QB start-sit charts. Just hope he throws 3 TDs passes and a pick-six and all should pan out.
Hey KC, I was offer Flacco, Boldin, and Mcgahee for Forte, Schaub, and Steven Jackson. Should I hit the accept button on this.. I know Flacco is better than Schaub.. this is my two QB league, my other QB is Rodgers.. but I wouldnt have NO RB but Mchagee and M.turner.. Please Help.. need to know your thoughts.
Haven't had a chance to watch baseball this year but it is great to see the Tigers back in the World Series! Have some fond memories of the 1984 Tigers winning it all. The gut instinct is to say yes to this if only because Forte may have the highest upside of any of the players listed.
Need to stream a DEF: Dal, Oak or NYG. The choices stink I know
Dallas v Carolina might not be a bad matchup, so that's the pick.
Have stafford/Flacco at QB with chance to add Dalton,Weeden or Fitzpatrick for this week only. Best QB option for week 7?
He was such poor man's Jerry Lawler and yet still entertaining in an over the top campy way. Got Dalton rated the highest out of that bunch (just don't think the Steelers D is anywhere near its usual dominant level).
When Greg Jennings returns, is he a viable WR2 the rest of the way?
The general rule is not to trust players who are returning from injury, so the best move would be to assume he might be a WR3 and hope for WR2 value.
Should I ride James Jones until he proves he's not going to get my points? I'm kind of tempted to go with Lance Moore this weekend.
Stick with Jones, as he is more apt to be a target magnet than Moore.
Thoughts on Doug Martin ROS?
Said before the season that Martin's low YPC in his senior season was a concern and put a ceiling on his value. With Blount now starting to get more carries, it looks like Martin might be moving from a bell cow to the lead in a lead/alternate backfield.
Honky tonk man got beat by the warrior in 11 seconds to lose the IC title.... Teams falling apart so looking ahead wanna run a few keeper league trades by you.... CJ?K+ Alf for Shady McCoy and Ryan Mathews(and maybe kyle rudolph) for RG3...... thoughts???
To lose the IC title in a squash match has to be the low point of one's career. If you could pull off a trade to get RG3, that would be the high point of your season. Not so sold on CJ + Alf for Shady.
RBs are forte, AP, lynch. these guys ever gonna find the endzone? what gives?
Congrats! Don't worry about Forte or AP, as they will get into the end zone soon. Worry about Lynch, as he just isn't as explosive this year as he was last year (see this week's TFS ESPN Insider Fantasy Foresight article for more details).
So you just told Matt from DC to ride James Jones. Do you ride him over Antonio Brown who has seemed to under perform?
Jones does rate just a bit higher than Brown on the WR start-sit charts because of Brown's recent lack of point performance.
I've been hit hard with injuries and byes this week. Who's the best flex play? S Greene, N Washington, J Gordon, or one of the Pittsburgh fill-ins (Batch/Dwyer). Thanks.
Tough picks, would say Gordon or Batch.
1 PPR league - pick my flex for me...Law Firm, Mendy, S. Moss
Maybe the best WWE jobber, but the Mulkeys were the best NWA jobbers. Law Firm wins the pick.
Lynch was a monster last night, not sure what film youve been watching
True, and he has shown that performance at times this year, but if you take the entirety of his season, he's not living up to the hype. And the question was will he hit the end zone soon and that's something he didn't do against SF.
Are you at all concerned with Mike Wallace ROS with a banged up offensive line making the long ball seem harder for Pitt to throw? His under 5 targets last week makes me nervous
The lack of targets are the biggest concern, as this offense is leaning too much on dink/dunk passes. With the run game falling apart, they may have to lean on the vertical pass more, so I'm a bit bullish on Wallace for ROS.
HELP - I'm .500 and playing the first place 6-0 team; I have Graham but picked up S.Chandler as insurance. Do I wait for the news on Graham or go Chandler even if Graham plays because he'll be limited and Chandler is playing TEN? or I can go get Finley or Olsen too? And, LeShoure or SJax as RB2......THANKS!!
You ever see him in an out of character interview? It's just as, if not more, entertaining than his in-ring work. None of those tight ends ranks high on the TE start-sit list, so take the risk and start Graham. Jackson wins the RB pick.
You said to target DMC....the DMC owner in our league also has Jennings and is hurting at WR....which of the following (or combo) would be fair value: Britt, Nicks, Fitzgerald, Harvin, Lloyd, Garcon
I'd offer Lloyd and Britt and then upgrade to Lloyd and Nicks if that doesn't work. Hopefully that owner doesn't have the same view of DMC.
is it weird to start Leshoure over F. Jones to avoid everyone on my team playing in the early game?
You do understand that we all know it's fake, right? That doesn't make it any less entertaining (just ask my kids). Don't start Leshoure over Jones.
Why all the hate? would you trade me for Run DMC?
It's the offense, as Seattle just isn't built to score a lot of points offensively. Would definitely trade Lynch for DMC.
Bionic elbow if you don't answer: If I read between the lines from previous comments you prefer Batch over Dwyer as best fill-in option for Steelers this weekend?
Son of a plumber! I do prefer Batch over Dwyer as the fill-in option.
I have to leave to work soon, please help! A win this week puts me at first place! Pick 2 to start: Chris Johnson, Marcus Colston, Felix Jones. Thanks so much for your help!
Aiming to help in a hurry! Colston ranks first out of the three. The other two are a toss up, with Jones having a very slight edge.
Any concern with Jamal Charles in that offense moving forward? They don't throw it well so teams stack the box, and they get down early and end up having to abandon the run. FYI: dynasty league
Got a lot of concern about Charles moving forward, but also have a lot of faith in that Kansas City has five green-rated run defenses on their schedule the rest of the year. That's a huge matchup edge and bodes well for that run game, so don't give up on him.
Hey KC! I got my fiancee to play in a league with me to try and get her into football. Now she's 4-2 and I'm 2-4. Help! How would you order the following receivers for ROS in a 1pt PPR: ABrown, KWright, ABoldin, AHawkins, and VBrown (coming back soon hopefully!)?Thanks!
You got her to play in a league and she has a good record and you want to beat her team? Do you not want a future with this girl? The PPR charts have Brown, Boldin, Wright, Hawkins then VBrown, so make the pick depending on if you want to keep her happy with fantasy football or whether you are going to have to hide it from her like that earlier chatter.
Dez just showed up on the injury report with a groin injury and is questionable. In general, would you avoid a player who shows up on the injury report Friday afternoon?
That is the general rule.
You may know all of the answers but I'm changing the questions! Mike Williams (TB) against a weak Saints D or a banged up Lloyd against the Jets?
Roddy tells some great stories on his Twitter account. Lloyd rates a bit higher on the start-sit charts.
How come you always choose obvious questions like "should I start Tom Brady or Blaine Gabbert this week" and not unique ones like Is Matt Flyn going to be starting soon?
It's because you haven't asked questions like this one. If the Seahawks thought Flynn was the better QB, he'd already be starting. And they aren't going to blame Wilson for that loss, as the multiple drops did more to hurt that team that anything Wilson did.
reports I have read have Dwyer as starting this week. Why do you prefer Batch if that is the case?
The instinct here is that Pittsburgh isn't going to try to beat Cincy with power but rather will try to beat them with speed. Batch fits that role better. I could be wrong, but that's the mindset behind the pick.
Does Brady rank higher than Gabbert on the start-sit charts?
This question is dedicated to Dan. Obvious answer - Brady does rate higher.
Need to decide on a trade in PPR. Who wins? R Bush and H Nicks for A Peterson for A Brown (PIT). Thanks brother!
Best part about Steamboat - he never played heel. Rather unique for that business. Tough call on the trade but I'd rather have the Peterson side of that deal.
Do you see Bowe as an upgrade over Maclin?
If this is for ROS, not really. Bowe has QB issues and Maclin has been incredibly productive (check out this week's TFS ESPN Insider article on how the Eagles are close to turning things around for more details).
Struggling with either the Packers D or the Texans D. The numbers say Pack but what say you?
That's a book that won't be on the TFS reading list any time soon. Packers D has a better matchup, so they win the pick.
I DONT WATCH WRESTLING BUT CAN YOU STILL ANSWER MY QUESTION? Which one would you sit this week; Britt, D Moore, Leshoure, or Alex Green?
For those that don't watch wrestling, try a humorous comment like the one from the previous post. Humor will always get a question moved to the front of the pack. Would sit Green out of that group.
Baron Batch or Pierre Thomas? Stephen Hill or Jared Cook? Randy Savage or Ricky Steamboat?
Batch, Cook and Savage (Elizabeth and the ability to run as a heel give him the edge over Steamboat).
What do you expect from DHB now that he's back from injury - this week and ROS? Raiders sure are throwing the ball a lot.
General rule is to never trust an injured player. He might be worth a stash for a late season turnaround but that's about as high as I'd rank him.
Hey KC, pick 2 for this week and ROS: Spiller, FJax, Antonio Brown, or Mendy?
Spiller and FJax for this week, but Brown rates over one of them for ROS (probably over Jackson) since Buffalo has a brutal late season slate of run D matchups.
Well, it's been fun but it's time to hit the road. Some quick notes - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @KCJoynerTFS.
