What are the chances that the "Stripe the Stadium" thing works where people wear red and white in alternating sections this weekend... If OU isn't providing the shirts I'll give it about a 5% shot of working.
'Stripe the stadium' is dumb and not practical.
Lot of negativity about the "stripe out." Since they're passing out "rally towels" already, I would have just alternated the towels crimson and cream between each section. Just my opinion. Stripe out will be tricky with no shirts being provided, and the cold weather forcing people to wear jackets.
Hi Jake, simply put what do you think the Sooners chances of playing for a national title are? Is there a chance we could end up with another 08 tie-breaker..
Tech would have to beat K-State this weekend for that to be a possibility. If that happened, OU almost definitely would get the tiebreaker if all three won out. If K-State wins this weekend, OU would need the Cats to lose twice to win the Big 12. To get to the national title, OU would need K-State to lose at least once, along with Oregon/Oregon State.
Mr. Trotter. That loss to K-St doesn't look too bad now does it? 2 Questions. 1)are there many Catholic's in Norman? 2) does the Big 12 get 2 teams in the BCS bowl games?
No, it doesn't. The win over Tech looks pretty good now, too. 1. Not a bunch, compared to other places. OKC has one Catholic high school. I lived in the Cincinnati area for awhile, and there are like 20 Catholic high schools there. 2. Looking very likely.
Rank the following reamaining opponents in order of difficulty for the Sooners... hardest to easiest...My ranks 1. Ok. State 2. Notre Dame 3. West Va. 4. TCU and I'm not sure that W.Va isn't a rougher road than N.Dame.
1. Notre Dame; 2. at West Virginia (assuming they haven't given up football by then); 3. at TCU, 4. at Iowa State, 5. OSU. Watch out for that Iowa State game. Cyclones always take out a giant.
If Texas Tech beats KState and OU beats ND this weekend and then all three teams win out would that make it a 3 way tie for first place in the Big 12 since no Championship game?
Correct, and OU would likely have the tiebreaker as the highest ranked BCS team.
Think OU will be able to run the ball on Notre Dame?
That's really one of the big keys to the game. If OU is able to, the game is basically over, I think. But it won't be easy. Irish by far the best run defense these Sooners have seen.
Got to talking w/ my dad on Saturday that Notre Dame is one of those nation wide teams that no matter how good/bad they are it's always a big game. We said that the Dallas Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers and ND Football are the 4 teams people either love or hate them because of the success they've had and the media coverage they get no matter what they do. Are we missing anyone or is that pretty accurate?
Yeah, that's probably the list. Other teams like that on the cusp: Packers, Celtics, Alabama, Red Sox.
In college football, Oklahoma is right there, too.
With the emergence of Saunders and Shepard in the slot will we continue to see more and more of Stills out wide?
Yes, I think that's the plan. OU basically has three go-to formations now. That one; Millard manning TE/FB with 3 WRs and Damien Williams; and the 3-back set with Millard, Ripkowski/Bird and Damien Williams.
Hey Jake, is there any word on why Trey Metoyr has not been playing or is it just the emergence of Brown, Saunders, Shephard?
The shoulder has been bothering him a bit. Stoops downplayed that today, but I know for a fact it's been a problem the last month. That and the emergence of Saunders has squeezed Metoyer out a bit. He's probably fifth in the WR rotation right now, behind Stills, Brown, Saunders and Shepard.
Jake: Is it just me or does Notre Dame play by a whole different set of rules? --- Their own National TV contract, special BCS rules, etc.. How come nobody talks about this? They get more media attention than anyone. Why?
13 recognized national championships will do that for you.
Plus a fan base that spans from Chicago to New Jersey.
Early guesses on the College Gameday celeb picker? I say the early favorites are JR or Toby Keith but I'm hoping they somehow can get Olivia Munn who would be my pick. But I think they can get a monkey to pick the games and they do a better than Ryan Lochte.
Yeah, I didn't think Ryan was very good. Feasibility is a big part of this. And while Munn would be awesome, I don't see it being very feasible. I see JR, Toby Keith and Switzer being the clubhouse favorites.
Should we perceive Saturday's game as a defensive battle? If so, can Notre Dame score on Mike Stoop's defense enough to win the game?
There's tremendous pressure on the ND defense to contain the Sooners, because I don't see the Irish scoring much on OU the way the Sooners have been playing defense. ND has to win this game 17-14, something like that. If OU scores more than 24, I really like its chances.
Seeing how Lou Holtz is not afraid to show his bias towards ND saying they can move the ball on OU & the D is the best in CFB who can beat anyone is it to far fetched to think he might pick the Irish over the NY Giants seeing how he thinks they're one of the greatest teams in the country year end and year out?
Ha, I bet Lou picks the Sooners this weekend. We'll see.
Hey, so it's finally here! Been excited about this matchup since preseason. Something about OU challenging those guys with the golden hats just feels pretty special. So my question is this: if OU does indeed win this game, what do you think the odds are that OU will jump ahead of LSU in the BCS standings?
It will be close. Honestly, though, it doesn't matter. OU fans should care about 4 teams. Oregon, Oregon State, USC and Kansas State. Those are the 4 teams that need to lose to improve OU's national championship game chances.
There are actually two Catholic High Schools- BMCHS and Mt. Saint Mary
Forgot about St. Mary. Yes, two.
Jake: Do you expect a record crowd for this weekends game?
It will be a sellout, and tickets will be impossible to find.
How will OU enforce this color coded seating chart? It will be cold and miserable. As a student we'll wear red but no way alumni do
We'll see. The odds are probably against it. But the OU fans surprised me against Tech in '08. Maybe they'll do the same Sat.
Where exactly is Gameday going to be located on the South Oval. How early can students camp out by the site.
Going to be in front of the library.
Let's have some fun with this game and do the stripe out. It's college football. Get on board and tell all the critics to loosen up.
Jake: Is there a more polarizing team in College Football than Notre Dame?
No. You either love em or hate em. Very few in betweeners.
Is ND the best running team OU has faced so far this season?
Nah, K-State is a better running team.
Hey Jake!!! First of all..a great time for McGee to get activated for this game. He can only help even more stop the run because the Irish very weak in the passing game. Just another added piece to keep Jefferson/Harris to run support. I think Colvin and Hurst will be fine. Oh..and no way this stripe-out works unless they provide the shirts!!! Too cold for this time of year too!!!
On behalf of this Sooner fan, can you tell Mack Brown ?Thank You? for out recruiting OU for the services of Steve Edmond and DeMarco Cobbs?
Sure. OKC native Josh Turner playing well for them, though.
Why in the world is the athletic department resorting to gimmicks like a 'stripe out?' In a game that features two of the most historic teams in college football shouldn't we just stick to tradition.(Though I would like to see more men wearing suits, ties and a proper hat to the game....just sayin)
Different times, Bud.
Do you think it's important for OU to come out swinging on offense? Do you think that it's important, on their first drive, to get it right the first time? That's the main thing. Getting it right the next time, not the same, not the same thing. Do you think they have to make that first time last?
Another nice Billy Joel reference.
Why is the media so confident the Sooners will handle this one easily? This is the first real defense this offense has seen all year.
Kansas State can play a little defense. I don't think anyone is saying that OU will pour it on the Notre Dame defense. But there's some justified skepticism that the Irish will be able to score enough against the OU defense the way it's playing.
Will McGee be a factor in this game?
Small factor. McFarland, Walker will get the majority of the snaps, but McGee will work in there.
I vote for Stacy Dales as the Gameday celebrity picker. Please take under advisement.
Early guess on the outcome? I say OU 38 - ND 24.
Too many points both ways.
It seems like the reasons OU fans hate ND, are the same reasons other fans hate OU, pretty funny. Let's be great hosts to our fellow college royalty.
Will the Sooner offensive line give Landry Jones enough time to torch the pedestrian Irish secondary?
Better believe the Irish will be coming after Landry. Watch out for that Millard dump off pass. That killed the Texas blitz, and I'm sure OU will go there if Notre Dame starts bringing the heat.
Any recruits visiting Norman for this game?
A bunch. Bob Przybylo has the full list on our forum.
Duke basketball is right up there with ND football in the polarization category?
Probably even more so, since CFB is more popular than CBB.
ND has great team speed. How does the Sooner's speed match up?
The Sooners can run, especially the secondary. The LBs are fast, too, when Frank Shannon is in the game.
Have you ever met Jim Traber? Do he always yell while talking?
Yes. Very nice guy.
Jake. Who is going to be the special guest picker for Gameday this week?
Who do you guys think it should be? I vote for something outside the box. A surprise would be cool. If not, either JR or Switzer. Both would be good on TV.
Do you think Millard is the answer for M Te'o?
Gotta believe those two will be helmet to helmet a bunch on Sat.
Why were so many fans cheering at the game Saturday when they saw ND had won??
Because they knew it set up the showdown. Had Notre Dame lost, it would have taken a lot of luster off the game.
It's definitely important for OU to get out to a fast start. If ND jumps out to a lead, you'll have a silent, uncoordinated crowd of 85K people on national television. I don't see anything close to the crowd they had when Tech came to Norman in '08.
Uncoordinated? Nice side-swipe.
One of the BCS bowl predictions has an OU-Notre Dame rematch in the Fiesta Bowl. How likely is that to actually pan out?
Possible, but K-State would either have to reach the national title game, or lose twice.
Will Justin Manning be in attendance for the Notre Dame this week? What other top recruits will be in Norman for the game? I don't have insider to see the list.
That's why you gotta subscribe!
How much will McGee play this week, and how much of an impact will he have in your opinion?
He's going to be the 3rd DT, so he's going to have to play a decent amount. He's probably going to be a bit rusty, but he'll be on the field quite a bit.
Tougher pill for Longhorn fans to swallow, given up 50 points a game on defense, or being out recruited by the Baylor Bears in BB?
Nobody in Austin cares about basketball.
Also Jake,I think it was interesting that ND was able to run well against the Stanford D (140 yds), which, I personally think has the best front seven in the nation. Our run D has been found wanting many a times, though recently they have been lights out. What do you think gives??
I don't see OU running like crazy like they did against Texas. The Longhorns are terrible stopping the run. It will be a challenge. OU doesn't have to run all over Notre Dame to win. But they have to keep it two-dimensional. If Damien Williams runs for like 75 yards, that would be a nice night against these guys.
Is there a chance that OU breaks out the throwbacks from UNT game?
Haven't heard that.
How do you think OU D can contain Tyler Eiffert? Cause I believe the ND WRs will be taken out of the equation by OUr shutdown corners... but I think pitting the extra DB or the safety one-on-one on Eiffert is a huge-risk. yOUr thoughts?
I would think Mike Stoops will have Tony Jefferson marking Eifert for much of the game. He's the key to stopping ND's passing, because you're right, OU's corners are very hard to throw against, even for prolific passing offenses.
Over/under on Belldozer Td's?
In this game? 0.5
If Damien Williams hits 150 yards and a couple scores can he get into the heisman chase too?
The Heisman is desperate for viable candidates outside Collin Klein and maybe Braxton Miller and Manti Te'o. Williams has no chance to win, but he could get on some voter's radars with a big game. I don't, however, see any Sooner getting to NYC.
The guest picker should be Adrian Peterson or Demarco Murray since he's hurt
I would prefer a non-football player.
This Game has everyone pumped even People not OU fans. Other than the national title games what other game has had this much hype and feel to it during the Reg season?!?
In terms of non-conference games, it's hard to think of one. This even outshines OU-FSU last year, because it's later in the year. Texas-Ohio State was big in '05, USC-Notre Dame in South Bend the same year. Sure there are others, but I need more time to think.
Does Wort play alot this weekend or does he sit more than usual?
Actually think he plays more than usual. This offense fits his style.
Is this a no win for OU? If they win, everyone will say that ND was overrated anyway, if they lose its a big loss.
Nah, OU can win a lot with a win. Puts their resume at the top of the list of one-loss teams.
would jaz reynolds be effective if activated? and what is the hold out for him?
I would be surprised if Jaz makes an impact this season, unless someone else got hurt. It's possible he's back for Iowa State. But feels like the WR rotation is pretty solidified.
Jake,Can the weekend get here already??? Cant wait!! Boomer Sooner!! #BeatND
Jake why is everyone worried about the picker? Only picker Im worried about is the Corso curse lol
I hear yall need a guest picker!?!?!
Stoops dropped a little nugget about being open to a slight helmet change....heard anything on that?
Yeah, that was kinda weird. I'll keep an eye out for it.
If OU wins out, 2 quarterbacks. 1 fumble each. If one or the other holds onto that ball....finish that statement?
Even with the turnovers, Kansas State was the better team that night.
Stacy Mcgee going to be as big a difference maker as we all hope?
He's not Lee Roy Selmon. Everyone calm down.
Where exactly is Gameday going to be on the South Oval? How early can students start to camp out (If they even can)?
In front of the library. I would assume you could start camping out Friday.
Jake: Does Notre Dame have the athletes to match OU? I've seen a lot of Notre Dame going all the way back to Holtz's teams and this, to me, is the fastest ND team that iv seen in awhile.
Yeah, their speed, especially defensively, is underrated. I don't think across the board they're as fast as OU, but they didn't get to this point by being a slow team. Brian Kelly has done a good job recruiting.
What will the impact of special teams play in the outcome of the game?
Could play a huge impact, and this is the best OU special teams probably since the days of Antonio Perkins. A TD return could be a back-breaker in this one.
Jake-has anyone brought up the fact this week that ND and OU are generally considered the top two programs in the history of college football? I think this should be recognized this week. Thx.
There will be a ton written on the tradition of the two programs. Along with Alabama, OU and Notre Dame are at the top of the mountain.
Am I hurt, i haven't seen the field much?
Damien Williams is just the better back right now.
The smart money might be on AD for guest picker. The Vikings play the Bucs on Thursday. Phil Loadholt remains a long shot.
Kansas has a better chance of running the table than Loadholt does of being the guest picker.
If Notre Dame pressures Landry early, could his performance fall back to what it was early in the year when people were calling for his head?
I would think that's what Notre Dame will try to do. If the good Landry shows up, the Irish are in trouble. But if Landry hands ND a couple of turnovers, it could be a long night in Norman.
Jake, do you have a white winter coat I can borrow, or should I just go bare chested and paint myself white for the stripe a thon on Saturday?
My wife might have one. I do not.
Which Landry Jones shows up? smart, efficient, calm, and collected Landry. Or, dazed and confused, who is on my team again? Landry?
I believe it will be the former. I think Landry turned the corner on not having Broyles anymore. But we'll have to see.
Will the Sooners make it a 3rd straight game without the 1st teamers allowing a TD?
Tech actually scored on its opening drive against the first-team D.
Do you think Oklahoma will be a bit shell shocked by the physicality of Notre Dame, given that they are used to the finesse "basketball on grass" style of play that's the Big 12?
That's shown up when OU has gone up against the SEC in the last 7-8 years. Notre Dame will definitely try to dominate the trenches. The Sooners have to hold up.
How big is the Notre Dame game for both Landry Jones and the Sooners? Does a huge performance place him back in the Heisman/first round draft pick discussion?
This game won't make or break Landry's draft status. But it could really help solidify his legacy at Oklahoma. He said as much today. People in Oklahoma remember you for what you do in championship games, Texas games, and big non-conference games like this one.
W/ ND playing 6/7 games either at home or a Pro ND neutral field, don't you think the crowd will be a factor w/ the way Golston has turned it over? I mean he's a freshman QB whose only road game was against a average at best Michigan State team. Seems like a lot of people are not talking about this, this is not only the best team ND has played but it's by far the toughest enviorment they've played in.
Yeah, that could be a huge factor. Young QBs have wilted at Owen Field before. We'll see if a crowd resembling the 2008 Tech game appears Sat.
Guys, that's all the time we have today. Thanks for all the questions. Sorry I couldn't get to all of them. Should be a great game Saturday. Until then, everyone have a great week.
