Thank you for participating in the chat. Looking forward to Bears vs. Lions on Monday night football. Let's get started.
JD-thanks for all your hard work. Biggest key to the game, for the Bears tonight? *Is it running the ball?
Dan, I think it's critical for the Bears to run the ball. They don't want to mess around and become one-dimensional against that Lions defensive line which is full a pass rushers like Suh, Avril, Vanden Bosch, etc. Feature Matt Forte. In 8 career games verus the Lions, Forte has 678 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He's also caught 24 balls for 297 yards and three scores. Get Forte going early and often.
Look like rain. Which team, if any, has the advantage?
It should favor the Bears. Detroit plays their home games indoors at Ford Field and the Bears have a much better running attack with Forte and Michael Bush.
How bad is the Lions special teams? Do you see Hester finally breaking one tonight?
They're bad. Detroit has allowed four special teams touchdowns this year. And the Lions secondary is also banged up. This should be a good night to be Devin Hester, who is expected to see a bigger role on offense with Alshon Jeffery out due to his fractured hand.
Why don't the Bears consider getting a dome stadium ?
I would be happy with a nice outdoor stadium. Let's start there.
Which front 4 is better? Peppers and the Bears or Suh and the Lions?
As impressed as I've been with the depth of the Bears' defensive line, I'd still take Suh, Avril, Vanden Bosch and Fairley.
With Alshon out, Who do you see becoming the next guy in line behind Marshall.
For me, that's a no-brainer. It should be Earl Bennett. For whatever reason, Earl hasn't done much since he got the contract extension last year. That should change tonight. Hester is also an option although I'd like to see him on the field roughly 25 snaps per game. But that number will be probably much higher against Detroit.
What aspect of Detroits game should the Bears be worried about/
A) Calvin JohnsonB) Calvin JohnsonC) Calvin JohnsonD) Calvin JohnsonE) All of the above
I was reading about using the no huddle more after the bye do you see it happening tonight?
It could. I'm all for an up-tempo attack against the Detroit defense. Anything to tire out that front four and possibly confuse their bad secondary. Cutler is a smart guy. He knows what he's doing at the line of scrimmage.
It seems like Jay is always good for an early interception, and an early time out. What's up with that?
He is. Not sure why. In general, the Bears offense hasn't been good to start games. You'd like the see that change because it's not realistic to expect the defense to score touchdowns every single week, is it?
Hey JD, keep up the great work! How big of a factor do you see the raucous Soldier Field crowd being tonight? Lions are a highly penalized team....just saying #beardown!
It would be a huge help for the Bears if the crowd goes crazy tonight before Detroit snaps the football on offense. Never overlook the value of being at home.
Through the first quarter of the year, what would you grade Shea McClellin and can he be a force in years to come?
I give McClellin a very strong B.
When will Jeffery be back?
A few weeks.
First game back, probably going to break it off tonight with Brandon more than likely seeing a bunch of double coverage. Is 1 TD and a hundred+ asking to much?
You know, Bennett's lone 100-yard receiving game did come versus the Lions in 2010 (7-104. It's possible.
over/under- Lions 2 personal foul flags?
Believe it or not, I'll take the under.
Who do you think will have a better game statistically? Cutler or Stafford?
Stafford could throw for more yards but I think Bears will win the game. My prediction was 27-20.
It seems like Evan Rodriguez has opened up some huge holes. Is he totally healthy, and am I the only one that was really impressed with him?
Evan Rodriguez did not appear on the injury report Saturday so we assume he's totally good to go.
Send DJ on a nickel blitz on the first play!! Beardown
D.J. Moore is one of the best blitzers on the team. Would not be shocked if the Bears send him a few times.
Jeff, if you had to make a call on how my performance will be at the end of the game tonight am i at a QBR of 80 or 3?
I'd imagine it will be more of the 80-plus quarterback rating variety. Cutler lifetime versus the Lions has thrown 10 touchdowns, one interception and posted a passer rating of 105.0.
Hi Jeff, you do a great job with Bears news. My question today is how effective do you think Tillman and Briggs will be in keeping Calvin shut down like they did in game 2 of last season. Do you think the bye week would hurt them in any way?
Can't really expect Tillman to completely shut down Johnson, nobody can. But Tillman has experience playing against Johnson and Briggs can help matters by crushing Johnson everytime he tries to go over the middle. Waddle brought up a great point this morning on Waddle and Silvy when he said he expects the Lions to line up Johnson in the slot and work the middle of the field. That is when Briggs or possibly Urlacher comes into play. I think the bye week helped the Bears, not hurt them.
JD, my man! Can you get me outta work so I can help keep the field dry tonight? I'm worried it's going to be tough to run out there
E-mail me your bosses number and I'll see what I can do.
Is it safe to assume Knox will not return from the PUP list this year?
That's probably safe to assume.
Hey Jeff...looking to watch the Bears game with the girls tonight! What's your favorite Bears bar for games?
Have to be honest, I've covered every Bears game since 2004 and every home game with the exception of 2 since I graduated college in 2000. I have no clue about the bar scene during Bears games. Isn't that sad?
I need me a Bears win like I need a gym membership. Whats your predicition?
Bears win 27-20.
Jay Cutler's got a fever, and the only prescription is more Earl Bennett. Over/under 6 catches?
I'll take the over for Earl. 7 catches sounds about right.
Third straight game of Pick 6's for Briggs and Tillman??
Would be amazing, but I don't think it happens for 3 straight weeks.
Thank you everybody. Enjoy the game tonight! Talk to you next week.
