Happy Friday! Who are we worried about this week?
Any News on T.Richardson ?
Kevin: Sounds like both he and his head coach think he's in better shape this week than last (sometimes I think these guys are surprised by how difficult it can be to try to play through these injuries. I think he's shown enough to be given an opportunity to play but the amount of touches he gets could again be fluid.
Stephanie, congrats on another Giants win! What odds would you place that Jordy Nelson suits up on Sunday?
Jimmy: Thank you - it's been fun so far! Right now, I think the chances are slim. Won't even test until Sat or Sunday. Might be gametime decision...
Hello Stephania! First time on this chat..thanks for taking my question. Is Jimmy Graham going to start this week and if so, should I start him or look for a better option?
Mike: Welcome! It's not clear yet. He's been pretty limited in practice so far, hasn't really bumped up the level of activity as much as I would have thought which suggests ankle not as far along. We need to see what he does today but I would definitely have insurance
Stephania, any truth or confirmation that Hernandez isn't playing on Sunday in London? I heard he didn't even make the trip over.
Brian: Tons of q coming in about this now. Can tell you I just heard from Mike Reiss (ESPN Boston) and he says he is not ruling out an appearance by Hernandez just yet. That's all I can offer at this point.
help me, help me, Stephania... Is Bradshaw going to play this week?
John: I expect he does. Not worried.
Bruised knee and all.....you think Felix is a sure go on Sunday?
Craig: Nothing is a sure thing with three days to go but...I expect Jones to play. Cowboys have not hinted otherwise. You can hardly count on him to stay healthy though, need to see if he can make it through a full game.
Is Donald Brown playing Sunday?
Tim: If he practices today, I think he will be active. What I don't know is how much they'll use him out of the gate. May not be as much first game back.
Hernandez was left at home .according to the boston globe
John: All I said was that Reiss says he hasn't been officially ruled out. He could potentially still travel to London.
Amendola won't actually be on the field Sunday will he?
Mike: I don't believe so. I think it's great that he has been out doing some light work but I don't think it's enough to transition to playing in a game. They have a bye next week. Maybe after the bye. We'll see.
Any updates regarding the PIT backfield? Do you think Dwyer gets another start?
David: I do. I expect Dwyer will likely start. BUT, just because Mendenhall hasn't practiced yet this week doesn't mean I automatically think he's out. I could see if he did some work today and felt fine afterward that he might suddenly be active. If he's not practicing today, then I would assume he's out.
Stephania, thank you for your time today! How comfortable would you feel starting Hakeem Nicks this weekend?
James: Why, thank you. Thanks for yours too. I feel more comfortable with each passing week. This week full practice for him every day. As he does more and more, it's a reflection of him getting progressively healthier. So I think he's a comfortable start.
Hey Stephania! I keep hearing the news about Garcon's plantar plate tear but have also heard mixed signals on how severe this actually can be. Rest sounds like what he is aiming for but surgery may be required. How do you think this plays out? Is it time to drop him?
James: Always hard to tell the subtleties from a distance but a plantar plate tear is a big deal for a couple of reasons. It won't really heal on its own and the disruption of that tissue (which reinforces the joint at the base of the toe) means the joint is less stable. Makes it hard to push off. It's not as disabling as if it were at the base of the big toe but it's still very problematic - as we've seen since he hasn't been able to play. I think he wants to try the rest to see if he can play through it but my sense is that even if he makes it back, it might not take much to flare it up. I'm not sure he can get back to top form and even if he gets to where he can resume play, not sure he holds up. I expect surgery is in his future but it's just a question of when. I'd be looking for a replacement.
Your a girl they know nothing about sports especiallly football why take advice from you
ANd Phil, you might want to work on your grammar
Probably not the most popular question, but there is no news that has been reported! Have not heard any updates on Alshon Jeffery. Is he closer to the 4 week return or 6 week return?
Hi Bill: Not a bad question at all! It's just hard to get much in the way of updates from a team when a guy is completely away from practice, just rehabbing. No news yet as to how the fracture is healing but promise to post as soon as I hear.
What's the word on Greg Jennings surgery...how long will he be out? And any chance we even see him this year after he's been out so long?
Mark: The gingham dress got me...I think there's a chance we see him although I think it might not be until December. I know there's been a report that his docs say 3 weeks, but I suspect that's a 3 weeks to activity timeline, not necessarily a 3weeks to return to play. I wrote a longer explanation of injury and expectations in blog post late last night.
Stephania, could you elaborate a little on Donald Brown's comeback. Was his knee issue something he SHOULD bounce back from this quickly? Do you see potential issues the rest of the season because of it? Thanks!!
Josh: We never got much detail on his need for surgery. "Torn cartilage" could be many things. The quick timeframe projected from the outset suggests it was never thought to be serious., Biggest issue is getting the swelling down adn getting enough muscular strength back to protect the knee. This Sunday would be just shy of 3 weeks. Not unreasonable. Doesn't mean there's Zero risk of setbacks but not necessarily expecting them.
How long do you expect MJD to be out? Could this turn into Darren McFadden of '11 where he missed most of the year?
Dave: Always has that potential. But I think based on the fact this is considered a stable foot sprain and they are going to rest him appropriately up front (in other words, they've already told us this is a mukti-week injury), it improves his chances of good healing, possible return. As for how long, it's not a precise science. I think once we get to 3-4 weeks we will get a better idea of how he's doing and then be in better position to project.
Stephania, is Jermichael Finleys's shoulder going to continue to prevent him from being a large part of the Packers' offense!? Especially with the injury to Jennings and now the potential absence of Nelson...
Andrew: Per his own words, I think it limits him for at least another week. Now would be a good time for him to step it up with Nelson potentially out but he admits to still being less than full health. Another week or two perhaps.
Philosophical question: Do you generally subscribe to the "if he's healthy enough to be active for his NFL team, he should be active on my FF team"? With regards to Graham, Jordy, etc.
BD: Good question. But I treat them all individually. I look at how the team manages their injured players, what the nature of the injury is, how the guy tends to be coming off injury, etc. So I don't subscribe to that philosophy across the board. And I'm conservative when it comes to injuries. If a guy's been absent for an extended time with something more serious, I tend to want to see him back in action successfully before I buy in.
What is your thought on Murray? Do you think he comes back anytime soon?
D$: I'm not convinced he's as far along as he would like us to think. Still on crutches - at times - which makes you wonder if he's on them as much as he should be. He needs to be walking without a limp before he can even consider moving ahead to running, then he has to do in-line before directional and cutting, then there are practice drills, etc. So there are many steps to go...which makes me think he's more than a week away. Always considered it likely to be a multi-week injury but how quickly his foot heals is anyone's guess.
Hey Steph you do a wonderful job much respect. I noticed Brandon Lloyd was absent from your injury report. Should I assume you are not concerned about the knee/shoulder?
Nate: I thank you. I wasn't especially concerned. Think he's more a little bruised and banged up than anything else.
In Jordy's case, can hamstring pulls feel better after a couple days of rest?
Matt: Absolutely. And we don't know how severe it was. Best thing is to rest it which is why they don't want to test until late before the game. But the problem for you as a fantasy owner is that you may be stuck with a late decision..and then no guarantee that it doesn't flare up during the game.
Is Peyton Hillis going to play and if so, how much?
Mike: Back in practice this week and after not playing for a month, looks like he could be back. But the how much part is harder to answer. With Draughn contributing and CHarles the clear leader, it's hard to know how much they'll work Hillis in, especially initially.
Just heard Calvin Johnson (knee) not practicing today. Concerned for this week? Rest of season?
Will: Not really concerned for today. Yet. Before the season I talked about how Johnson misses a fair amount of practice but usually shows up to play. Think that's still the case.
Have to run to radio! Good luck in Week 8!!!
