Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:27 PM)

Greetings. Thanks for understanding the need to abbreviate today. I'll work fast so we can cover as much as possible.

Phi (Houston)

Do u think Tebow will go to Jag?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:28 PM)

Absolutely not.

Steve (Milwaukee)

Both the Colts and Dolphins are doing much better than most people anticipated at this point in the year. Do you think the winner of this week's game continues to surprise us all and makes it to the playoffs in a weak AFC?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:28 PM)

Certainly the winner will have a good chance.

Tatum (New Orleans)

The Colts have doubled their win total from last season in just seven games. Is it safe to say that the changes put in place are working out?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:29 PM)

So far so good, absolutely. As I wrote last week off the win over the Titans, the Colts are ahead of schedule.

Chris (Murfreesboro, TN)

Does Jared Cook start seeing more looks? And is he a Titan next year?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:29 PM)

I would think they'd franchise him if they can't reach an agreement.

Eric (Chicago)

Hey Paul, I'm heading down to Nashville for the game this weekend. Any must hits food wise?? Appreciate the recommendations!

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:30 PM)

Sunset Grill in Hillsboro Village is good, or Cabana across the street is more of a bar atmosphere. Bars in Midtown are good -- start at Corner Pub or Red Door.

Frank (La Marque,Tx)

What do the Texans have to do to avoid losing home field advantage in the playoffs?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:31 PM)

Um... not to be obvious but: maintain the best record or tie-breaker edge over anyone who catches them.

jack (Pasadena,TX)

I think the year Duane Brown was drafted, there were like 8 OT's drafted ahead of him. Do you think it's reasonable to say that he has turned out to be better than all of them?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:32 PM)

I don't have the list in front of me. He was idea for what they do, so they did well identifying the best guy for their system. He probably wouldn't be as good in some other schemes. Like with Dallas.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

How long will it take for Andrew Luck to be a Great Quarterback for Indianapolis Colts?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:32 PM)

Not long. He's well on his way.

JJ Watt (Pizza Hut)

Can I keep this up and sack the MVP award?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:33 PM)

Very hard for a non-QB to win MVP. Right now you wouldn't win it. Unless Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady all bomb in the second half, Watt will have to settle for defensive MVP.

CJ (H-Town)

With Cush gone and besides Schaub-Foster-Watt, what player can the Texans least afford to lose?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:34 PM)

Duane Brown. And Jonathan Joseph if he's healthy.

Blake (Arkansas)

What do you think about the Titans? Do you think they can make a Wild Card spot?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:34 PM)

I don't. The defense just isn't good enough.

hunter (jax)

any word yet on what pick jags received for thomas??

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:35 PM)

Saw one report that said fifth. I've not been able to confirm. If it's fifth, that's pretty good.

Jon (Jax)

Does Gene Smith keep his job next year?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:36 PM)

Maybe. But I think it's probably time to blow the whole thing up and start from scratch. He's a good man and a good personnel man, but he's had a good while and hasn't collected enough talent.

Brian (Cville, VA )

PK, I'm headed to Jax on Saturday and going to watch the Lions & Colts games. I'm hoping I'll get to see 2 Jags victories. Think it's possible?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:37 PM)

More likely you see two losses than two wins. I think the Lions are going to play better. And I cannot see them beating the Colts twice. But who knows.

Brian (Cville, VA )

Let's say the Jags offense looked like it did last week, maybe takes a step forward. Do the Jags at all consider shutting MJD down to see what the offense looks like for the remainder of the year without him?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:37 PM)

Not for that reason, no. They are seeing it now.

Erik Soel (Panama City FL.)

Been only able to watch the Titans when I went to nashville to watch in person was wondering a few things such as how has McCourtys play been this year and what is really hurting the Titans on D.

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:38 PM)

He's been getting better. Was invisible early. They pass rush hasn't been sufficient and the safeties have been bad.

Mike Alstott (Weight Room)

Why do you hate fullbacks so much?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:40 PM)

The league is a passer league now. I want the eligible receivers on the field to be good receivers, and I think you can find tight ends who can lead block and are more threatening as receivers. Fullbacks have roles that are too narrow.

Frank E. Stein (Boooston)

Best and worst Halloween costume you saw last night?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:42 PM)

Best was a little man dressed as Woody from Toy Story. But here's a situation where I actually AM biased because he was my little man. Saw several girls in early teenage years who thought a Titans or Manning jersey and eye black amounted to a costume. It doesn't.

Frank (PA)

It is no question that Vick is a great athlete. But once again, a QB is not working out with Andy Rieds never budging offensive philosophy. How do you think Nick Foles would work out with the Philly offense?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:43 PM)

I think it's crazy to think he'd be better.

Josh (Fishers, IN)

Between the rising stock of Dwayne Allen, Coby Fleener, Vick Ballard, T. Y. Hilton, and of course Andrew Luck (Josh Chapman coming back soon as well), how would you grade this first draft by Ryan Grigson so far?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:43 PM)

Quite good.

Brian (Cville, VA )

Scobee's kickoffs have been pretty dismal lately. Especially late in games. Why not let the highest drafted punter in the world give it a shot if he's got a miracle leg? Don't a lot of punters kick off?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:44 PM)

Many do. I can't imagine they wouldn't consider it if he's good at it.

Zac (The Bay)

In #Chuckstrong's absence, who's game planning with Manusky?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:44 PM)

The defensive staff, just like before. Pagano probably sends in thoughts/notes when he's able.

David (Jax)

Are the Jags as bad as their record?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:47 PM)

Every one is as good or bad as their record. Absolutely. I completely buy into Bill Parcells' philosophy: You are what your record is.

Brian (Cville, VA )

Thoughts on Gabbert's game on Sunday? I thought it was the best I've seen him play. WRs are still dropping too many balls though. Sign of future things to come from Gabbert or "the sun shines on every dog's.....once in a while"?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:49 PM)

He's better. But if the receivers stink, if the blocking is inconsistent, those excuses hold less and less water over time. Fair or not, the franchise doesn't get to say "Well we stink at supporting him" for ever. Why haven't they fixed that stuff? Laurent Robinson's done nothing. Justin Blackmon's slow to develop. They added no personnel to fix the line. That's their fault.

Mario Williams (Buffalo)

Hey, can I get a little help? My foot is stuck in my mouth and my wrist hurts so I can't get it out.

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:49 PM)

Why you worry about the things you do is beyond me. But I don't think you stuck your foot in your mouth.

Moron Logic (Interweb)

Since the Cots ost to the Jets by 26 and the Dolphins beat the Jets by 21 the Dophins beat the Cots by 47,you can't argue with math.

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:50 PM)

Exactly. They shouldn't even play.

Greg Jones (Jacksonville's Weight Room)

PK, have you seen me with my shirt off? I'm 250+ with less than 5% body-fat. You wanna take back what you said 'bout fullbacks? Or you wanna come see me next Thursday?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:50 PM)

You are an absolute specimen. With a limited role heading the way of the dodo bird.

Jalone (the boro)

Is Munchak in over his head? Is the job he has too much for him?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:51 PM)

Were you asking that during last year's 9-7?

Jalone (the boro)

Who bears the most blame for the Titans lack of effectiveness on defense? They just seem to have no fire.

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:51 PM)

1) Jerry Gray. 2) Michael Griffin. 3) Ruston Webster and the people who gave Michael Griffin a long-term deal.

Jalone (the boro)

What is your opinion on when players come out and request a trade?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:53 PM)

Generally trying to force the team to evaluate the way its using him. That's the case with Cook. It can be disruptive, but hasn't been in this situation.

Bert (St. Paul, MN)

Any chance that TE Taylor Thompson makes Jared Cook expendable next year?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:53 PM)

Not in my eyes.

Graham Turner (Indy)

Do you think that Luck will experience a major slump next year? Kind of like what Cam Newton is experiencing this year?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:53 PM)

I do not.

Jalone (the boro)

Does Jared Cook at least have a valid point; the Titans in the first 3 games had no problem getting CJ his touches when he only got 45 combined yards. Meanwhile, Cook who has been effective isn't getting his touches.

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:55 PM)

They have other people they need to throw to. They don't have other people they have to get carries. That's the difference. But I get your point.

Blueman (Indy)

The Colts offense puts up good numbers for yds but is not scoring many points. Is this due to the fact the defense is not getting any turnovers and the Colts need long drives to score,or is it more about 6 rookies playing on offense at times and they just haven't learned enough yet?

Paul Kuharsky
 (12:56 PM)

Harder to move it when you get in the red zone. Could use some better starting field position too. But yeah, it's a growth thing, at least in part.

Joshua (Indianapolis, IN)

Do you credit the rebirth of Reggie Wayne (on pace for 120 receptions and 1,700 yards) more to Bruce Arian's scheme or the play of Andrew Luck?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:00 PM)

I credit it primarily to Reggie Wayne. But all the other stuff has helped. Watching Reggie Wayne work

Adam (Tulsa, OK)

Is it a concern that the Colts have yet to put together a complete game? In all their wins it's one strong half and one lackluster half.

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:01 PM)

Going to happen with young teams. If they can win at this rate doing what they are doing, I'd take incomplete games.

Brian (Cville, VA )

What's your thoughts on Mularkey thus far? I'm fairly impressed the team is still playing hard. Seems like our offense might be starting to click. What's it take to save his job from here on out?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:01 PM)

I like him. But the progress is absolutely insufficient and he needs to answer for that better.

Ben Tate (H-Town)

It looks like I am in Kubiaks dog house. What can I do to get out?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:02 PM)

Get healthy. Be productive.

Grumpy Titan Fan (Land of Dissapointment)

What's the latest on Markelle Martin? Has he been taken off PUP/cleared for practice? No way he's worse than Whiffin. Will he see the field this year?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:03 PM)

Decision comes next week. No camp and just three weeks of practice. Hard to imagine he's more than a special teamer if he's activated.

Finley (outside your door)

Just one piece of Halloween candy? Please?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:03 PM)

Nope. I gave you treats this morning. You love that green thing for your teeth.

Just some guy (At Work)

Next time in Houston, want to hang out, maybe play some softball?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:04 PM)

New No. 1 for oddest invite I've received. Congrats.

Brian (Cville, VA )

I know they say there are no moral victories in the NFL. But the Jags have to be (somewhat) pleased with their play last Sunday. Agreed?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:05 PM)

Did a lot of good things. But when do they break through and win a game?

Ryan Mouton (in prayer)

Since Jerry Gray seems to like pairing me up against the opposition's best WR, what chance do I have of stopping Brandon Marshall this week?

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:06 PM)

He doesn't pair you up against the best receiver. You play the slot and a lot of good receivers head to the slot in three-wide. Nickelbacks are going to give up catches. I thought you were actually in good position against Wayne several times and got beat by a great player playing great.

Paul Kuharsky
 (1:10 PM)

Thank you for joining me. It was a good half hour. See you soon.
