Hey gang. Big weekend for racing. Here's my column on the culture clash of F1 in Austin. Beef brisket and cowboy boots meet skinny jeans and caviar. A Texas 2-step like no other: http://tinyurl.com/d55a2cu
Hi Terry! What is your impression of Kasey Kahne in his first year with HMS? Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Happy Thanksgiving to you, as well, Brenda. Kasey had a outstanding first season at Hendrick, and bigger things are coming for him in the future.
Blount would you like to see the nascar trucks on a road course in the future.?
Absolutely. Road races are some of the most exicting events NASCAR has these days, and I also want to see the Trucks race on dirt, which looks like it will happen.
Do you think Johanna Long will get a full time ride next year Why is she in and out of the 7o
Because of sponosorship issues. And I don't understand why a company won't step up and sponsor her. They just aren't informed enough to realize how good she could be with good equipment.
Wouldn't it be ironic if Keselowski ran out of gas on the final lap at Homestead, finished 25th and lost the championship to JJ?
I would call it tragic. Whoever wins it, I hope it doesn't come down to something weird like that happening.
Will poor qualifying ruin Brad's title hopes like it did for Hamlin in 2010?
No, and who knows where he will qualify. Basically, Brad is going to win this unless he wrecks or has a mexchanical failure.
The Nascar schedule is too long. I'm so burned out of racing that when Daytona comes up I just don't care anymore. Nascar needs to cut races like Atlanta, Pocono, and Kansas so the fans have time to regain their desire for watching the races.
I agree in priciple Teri. NASCAR should cut back to 32 races, but no track wants to give up an event because they all make money.
Homestead is boring. Move the last race to Daytona and it'll be ratings gold.
No chance in you know where that NASCAR would end the season with a restrictor plate race. And as 1.5-mile tracks go, Homestead is one of the best for quality racing.
Do you think Kyle Larson and Chase Elliot are the future stars of the Sprint Cup Series?
I'm hesitant to label youngsters future stars, but both young men are extremely talented. If they take their time and get good coaching, both could eventually run well in Cup. Remember, everyone said Joey Logano would be the next great Cup driver. We're still waiting on that one. And if I'm picking one guy right now as a future star, I'll go with Ryan Blaney.
how many teams are going to add a car to their line up? which teams are adding to their lineup?
Stewart Haas is adding Danica full time, so it will have 3 Cup cars next year. And it looks like SHR will have four in 2014 when Harvick joins the team.
Do you think Newman will be with SHR in 2014 with the arrival of Harvick, or will move on to RCR, Furniture Row, or perhaps MWR?
Newman will stay at SHR if they have soponsorship for all four cars. I assume Budweiser is coming with Harvick.
what is the latest on sadler for next year?
Sadler probably will race a Nationwide car for Joe Gibbs Racing, along with Vickers.
With Harvick at lame duck status and taking sponsors with him, do you suspect that Menard will become the top driver at RCR? He's quietly been solid in what is a complete off year for RCR.
The Dillon brotehrs are the future at RCR. Menard will be there as long as his father continues to sponsor the car, but it's true that Paul's had a decent couple of years for them.
Why couldn't Jeff Gordon wait one more lap and confront Bowyer outside the race? I mean, why tear up equipment? Wouldn't a face to face confrontation prove more?
Gordon felt it had to make a point on the track. It was wrong, but it happens.
I'm tired of Homestead being the season finale! It's such a boring track! Move the race to Bristol where there'll be more fans, more wrecks, and more action!
Possible cold weather issues this late in the year would keep NASCAR from running a season finale in Bristol.
what is the latest on travis kvapil for next year?
Don't know Dwayne, and frankly, nothing against Travis, you may be the only person who cares.
is is true harvick is leaving? If so who takes over his spot at rcr? I think its really time for him to move on to a better team or a more consistant team.
It's true and Austin Dillon will move up to Cup in 2014. But the real question is what happens next year with the tension of a full lame duck season hanging over everyone's heads on the 29 team?
Read an article about how Jeff Gordon should have gotten away with the dump of Bowyer because he is Jeff Gordon. I think the writer was saying he has built up more good will and done more for the sport than ANYONE to make it grow nationally that he wasn't going to parked for this one mistake- agree or disagree?
I agree. Just like in the legal system, punishment often comes down to past history. That's why Kyle Busch got suspended and Gordon didn't.
With everything that happened at Phoenix, nothing has been said of the 31 turning Danica at the end. Was that on purpose? It sure looked like it.
No, it wasn't. In fact, Burton went over and apologized to Tony Gibson, saying he just went into the corner too deep and lost it.
Any word on whether the 24 & the 15 have met to clear the air, or is this going to carry over into next year?
Haven't heard, but knowing both guys, I don't think they will let this linger. I'm sure they will speak at some point.
Does Go Daddy maybe leaving Danica have anything to do with her not running INDY?
GoDaddy isn't leaving, but it could be they didn't want to sponsor two cars at Indy.
I hear that FIA is considering a GP2 type feeder series for the US. Think that would work and how would that affect Indycar?
A lot of things are being considered for the Circuit of the Americas track, which already has Moto GP coming. But I don't think lower series will work well for anyone other than hardcore fans. People just don't know what it is and aren't curious enough to care.
Is dodge ever coming back? Wont it be a nice send off for them with the blue duce winning them a championship?
I hope they come back John, and I think winning the title will help. Dodge wanted to stay, but they weren't willing to take a lower-level team to do it. Dodge officials really got caught blindsided by Penske going to Ford.
It seemed Ryan Truex always ran well for JGR in the nationwide 20 car. How come they never offered him a fulltime nationwide deal to see what he's got?
It's all about what sponsors want to do JT. And JGR still has hopes for Darrell Wallace Jr. as a developmental driver.
Why isn't there a tire rule in Sprint Cup similar to Nationwide and Trucks? Seems to me it would cut costs and may improve the racing a bit making the teams manage their tires better.
You have to consider the fact that Cup races are longer, so they need more tires. But I would like to see the tires wear down a little faster, which would improve racing.
Pick 1 from each group: Denny, JJ, Brad, Kyle Group 2 Kenseth, Kahne, Group 3 Edwards, Stewart, Group 4 Aric or Kurt. Also do you go offense or defense for the last race. I'm close to the money
OK. JJ, Kasey, Carl and Kurt. And I don't believe in playing a prevent defense.
Move the final race to the North and put snow tires on the cars, it's proven that football games in the snow is ratings gold and with NASCAR, it would be no different.
It would be fun to watch, but that will happen when my home team, the Astros, win the World Series next year.
Elliot Sadler is a crybaby. He whines about NASCAR conspiring against him and stealing his championship and then he wrecks himself at Phoenix. He lost this title, not NASCAR.
Elliott Sadler is a class act. He was frustatred at Phoenix. Who can blame him?
what is the latest driver rumors that you have heard lately?
Not much other than AJ possibly going to BK Racing with Mike Ford as the crew chief.
What Nationwide Series Races do you think that Danica Patrick will race in 2013?
Maybe a couple of plate races and road races, places where she has a decent shot at winning.
As her season ends, how is Danica viewed in the garage?
As a driver still learning the ropes. Frankly, I expected better this year. But the JR Motorsports equipment wasn't as good as expected until recently since Ryan Pembertion came on board. She has raced a lot better over the last month, including Cup with Tony Gibson as her crew chief.
How about gordon's 25 points going to bowyer? Think that is only fair.
That's assuming Bowyer would have finished 25 spots better, which was third. He wasn't going to do that.
Do you think Austin was a good choice for the 1st F1 track in the US?
I hope so. As I wrote today, I'm a Texas boy and I can tell you it is a convergence zone of cultures that could rock Sam Houston out of his coffin. But maybe opposites will attract. The facilty is magnificent and this is the first time ever a track has been built in the US for the purpose of racing F1.
With so much controversey over energy drinks and their safety, would KBM & MWR be looking for different sponsors?
No. They are big money sponsors. Teams raced with cigarette sponors for years.
Who's your early 2013 championship favorite, I'm going with Bowyer.
Not a bad pick. I may go out on a limb a little and say Kenseth could get it done his first year at JGR.
Mathmatically bowyer was still in it and the current points system needs to be adjusted so it doesn't penalize one the championship leaders for someone's own stupidity.
Mathematically yes. Realistically, no. But I agree NASCAR should be careful about contenders getting intentionally wrecked.
Shorter races only mean you have to get to your Honey Do list sooner. How about a NASCAR 24 Hrs at Daytona.
Please no. I need my beauty rest.
I seem to be the last willing to admit it, but is Jeff Burton officially at the stage of his career where he is a field filler or does RCR have one final push to improve their entire operation in time for 2013?
Burton's better days may be behind him, but he's not field filler. He is under contract through next season.
I am a casual Nascar fan. Is Kasey Kahne who is #3 in the standings mathematically out of contention?
Kasey can't win it now, but he's had a super first year in the 5 car.
By my count, Kyle has been taken out at least twice with no payback (the 2 and the 39). In his effort to rebuild his image, is it possible he is becoming a doormat?
A doormat? Not a chance. He has raced exceptionally well in the Chase events this year, which is a good omen for 2013.
Actually, I was being silly with my snow tires race, but I would watch an all-star race in the snow during the week before the Super Bowl. Barring that, I would not mind a race on a dirt track that weekend as well.
I think you'll get your dirt fix soon in the Truck series.
I will get my pay back on Jeffy. Dont you guys worry
Clint, we might believe you if you knew how to spell your last name.
I am looking for something to be excited about this weekend. maybe something between Denny and Austin Dillon? Any embers still smoldering between those two?
I doubt it, and I really don't like it when Cup stars take action in Nationwide races against Nationwide regulars.
If Brad finishes this off, will this be the greatest championship run in NASCAR history?
Greatest in history? Not even close. But good for the sport to crown a first-time champ who is very popular with the fans.
I love it when people show passion but I was disappointed to hear the crowd start cheering when the brawl broke out around Jeff Gordon's car.I disagree with his actions 100% but like Jr. eluded to at Talladega, controversy should not be what makes the sport "exciting" for the fans.
Fans, especially ones who've been drinking, get fired up watching fights in every sport. I was surprised Bowyer's crew didn't get penalized for attacking Gordon. Driver vs. driver is one thing, even crew vs. crtew, but having a crew go after an opposing driver is unacceptable and dangerous.
What Races do you like the Best in the Nationwide Series in 2013 Since the 2013 Nationwide Series Schedule is Released?
I like the road races for all the bumping and banging and I'm anxious to see how it goes on the Mid-Ohio course.
Why wasn't Brian Pattie fined for using profanity on live television?
I didn't hear it, but boys will be boys sometimes. Believe it of not, angry me cuss.
Since it hasn't been asked yet, who do you like in the Finale? Thanks again for a great season.
Thanks for joining the chats this year Keith. I like Brad, but I would like any driver who had a 20-point lead going into the final race.
Hi Terry, I am sure you have seen the new Astros uniforms for next season? What do you think ? Atleast we will look good when we loose. Will the Texans will be superbowl champs this season ? Looking very promising to me.
I absolutelty love the new(retro) Astros unis. Takes me back to my youth. Now if they just had a decent player or two to wear them. And yes, I think the Texans are Super Bowl bound. Houston finally may get that Sper Bowl title.
Im not a fan of Brad K. But must say he did very well in yesterdays interview.
I don't think the pressure it getting to him at all. I think he's enjoying all the attention. It was weird to see so many reporters around Brad yesterday and only a few around JJ.
Gotta run folks. I hope everyone enjoys all three title battles this weekend in NASCAR, and check out the F1 race in Austin. Have a great Thanksgiving. My annual best and worst of the season column will run Thanksgiving day. Thanks for participating in the chats this year. All the best. Peace.
