Good afternoon everyone..I can't believe this is our last Wednesday chat of the year...Again I could really use your feedback..real important..please go to this address and it should be the Mark Garrow mailbag.. http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/45974 .....now let's get this partaaayyyy started!
I have to take a quick time out...for 10 minutes...can you please think about taking this time to write to the mailbag..be right back.
I'm back...thanks for your patience...let's get to the questions..
Assuming Jimmie Johnson is in "all out" mode at Homestead doesthat make him a gamble fantasy-wise or can he do so under control?
Oh he'll be a load Sunday to deal with...I can easily see him winning the race and remember that will give him one more win than Keselowski and that could come into play.
This Kurt Busch "floor pick" experiment seems to be working well, Mr. Garrow. It's like you're a NASCAR guru or something...
Go figure...three weeks..three floor picks...three top-10s....oooohhh
Hello Mark, FYI-Here is the comment I submitted to ESPN: "I really enjoy the chat sessions with Mark Garrow. He is very insightful and provides an inside look at my favorite sport, NASCAR that I can?t get anywhere else. Bottom line is that is what makes him the best, he is different and more informed then anyone in the racing industry and because of Mark, I visit your website at least twice per week. I don't always actively participate in the chats, but I always read his comments on Wednesday and Sunday. During the week, I read several journalistic pieces on many different subjects including several newspapers, magazines, chats, etc. and Mark is heads above all columnists that I read on a regular basis. This includes, but not limited to: Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Mag, USA Today, Daily Herald, etc. The game itself, however, I feel needs to be looked at, I personally like having to change my team each week. I don?t like values going up and down based on a weekly performance. I would prefer a game structured like Yahoo! where you have allocations for drivers for the entire year. Thanks for listening!" - Windy City Dan
Who do you think will win the Ford Ecoboost 300 & the Ford Ecoboost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway?
Joey Logano-Jimmie Johnson is what I'm thinking Chris.
Who do you think will be the 2012 Nationwide Series & Sprint Cup Series Champions?
Stenhouse and Keselowski have leads that are just too big in my opinion.
Hi Mark I am 2nd right now but I only have a 5 point lead and 3rd place has better drivers left I need to know who you think will be best in Qualifying I need your top 5 thanks man
Jake...upon review...I'm thinking 48,18,56, 16 and maybe 15...
How does my top twelve compare to yours? I had to add two more to include the 2. 48 14 99 11 5 17 56 29 16 15 24 2
well let's see...1.Jimmie Johnson2.Kyle Busch3.Matt Kenseth4.Tony Stewart5.Clint Bowyer6.Brad Keselowski7.Kasey Kahne8.Martin Truex, Jr.9.Jeff Gordon10.Denny Hamlin11.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.12.Greg Biffle13.Kevin Harvick14.Mark Martin15.Kurt Busch16.Joey Logano17.Ryan Newman18.Carl Edwards19.Aric Almirola20.Paul Menard21.Sam Hornish, Jr.22.Trevor Bayne23.Marcos Ambrose24.Jamie McMurray25.Juan Pablo Montoya26.Jeff Burton27.Casey Mears28.Landon Cassill29.Bobby Labonte30.Travis Kvapil
I have a 50 point fantasy lead going into the last week. I can start any A driver. Most of my B drivers are out. Still have Newman, logano, menard, martin, etc. Almirola and hornish jr are out for C drivers. Who do I start? need one a, 2 b, and 1 c driver. My opponent still has everyone but biffle bowyer kayne and truex jr.
John...can you give me some examples of A and C drivers you can use...I'm trying to find the stuff but can't..then write me back and I'll answer again..
hi-mark do you think 15-24 will behave at homestead? is the 18 still scared by 29 cause the 18 had a stout car in phoenix on sunday thn the 29 came in the picture at end of the race & it looked like 18 was afraid 2 race him is the 18 intimated by the 29? or afraid of the 29? thank-you
Tom, I don't think 18 was afraid of 29...he knew his car was done...and there was no point after he messed up picking the inside on that restart...as far as 15-24 they will play nice Sunday or NASCAR will hammer them.
Hell-o Mark, I have no Fords going into the big Ford Weekend. The odds-makers in Lost Wages like the 16 and 17 and are warm to the 99. I moved up into the $ in Fantasy Cup by dumping the 48 for the 11. I'm trading in the "rice burners" for the Fords at this point and resiging myself to the fact that my favorite driver Matt Kenseth will be wheeling a Toyota next year. Looking forward to your top 30. I reserve the right to act like my wife and change my mind at the last minute! Thank you for all you do and I'll be online Sunday, Bill
Bill, I like the Roush cars ..but I like the 17 more than the 16...because Kenseth is running more consistent...I still like the 18 a lot though and not that warm on 99..just doesn't have the speed...Kahne is going to be bad to the bone and I look like Gordon should be decent too.
Afternoon, Mark. Thanks again for all your wisdom throughout the year. Who are you thinking would be my best combo here:11 & 9918
Thanks for props...I'd go 11 and 18..just not hip on 99...he'll be okay..not great.
Do you think Gordon will be trying to stay away from Bowyer or the toher way around?
I think both will be very careful...any payback will be served cold...and next season in my opinion...early in the season.
Mark, hope you are doing well today. Hard to believe it is the last weekend of the year for NASCAR. Well Gordon killed my team w/wrecking Bowyer last weekend. My lineup this weekend: 17-56-88-43. Out of starts w/16,5,15, 55 so 56 and 88 it is or move the 39 or 20 in for one of the 56 or 88?Also, Mark w/Harv going to SHR, will he be a 4th car or 3rd car and Newman looking?
Nick, the Gordon deal killed me too especially when it comes on the heels of Johnson hitting the wall...I'd keep that line-up...and I think Harvick will be fourth driver...Tony wants to keep Newman in the fold.
Who do I need to stay away from as far as payback goes? Besides Bowyer and Gordon, is anyone else looking for revenge?
I think everybody will play nice this week for fear of taking out a championship contender Bill so I think you're safe.
In a league where (believe it or not) I am in 16 place! Need 2 dark horses, in the chase, that could ride up and take the lead! Truex jr. maybe? or out of the chase; Edwards?
Truex has a chance to work for you Karl...Logano could surprise or maybe even a Kurt Busch maybe?
Who do you think is the better choice-48 or the 2? And will the 15 be a safe pick this weekend with the mess with the 24 ongoing? Thanks so much!
WildThing, I think 48 is better choice than the 2 because BradK can cruise and Jimmie is going to be pushing the button hard...I think, again, the 15 and 24 are going to be okay...One thing to think about Clint may be mad at Jeff, but he doesn't want to hurt him physically and at a track with that kind of a speed that's always a danger...we all remember what Carl tried to do at Atlanta...He wanted Keselowski out of the race...but didn't intend to try and send him into the grandstands.
I wish Windy City Dan has posted his comment sooner, so that I could have copied it. Mine wasn't nearly as eloquent. Thanks for all you do, Mark. It is appreciated.I strongly suggest everyone else who benefits from these chats leave a comment, so we can keep this good thing going.
Thanks Dave...it's important right now if people like what I do they take the time to write..My contract is up at the end of the season and I find myself looking for a plan "b" already.
Guru, tried that link to comment but didn't see where! For scc do you like the 16 this week? Does the 2 play it safe or try to win? Thanks for all your help this year!
I like the 16, but 17 has been more consistent..Texas is a very good race to gauge Homestead..last year for instance the top-7 at Homestead all finished top-9 at Texas in the fall...Kenseth outran Biffle at Texas and I believe he will again..And the 2 might say they're going for the win, but that is a lie...He'll do what Jimmie Johnson has done in same circumstance..he'll find a place to ride just inside top-10 and ease on into the championship...no time to be a hero.
Whatsup Mark? I have been ponderin over the decsion whether or not to go into the medical field at the junior college near my house. Im just an uneducated individual with big dreams and little cash. Help me out will ya. Toss a brother a couple bucks. PS..My bike has a flat.
Rudy...you are killing me man! About three weeks ago some guy wrote in that he was going to donate $2,000 to my favorite charity and I gave him my daughters Christian school which has several major needs...He said okay..so I go out and spend that money to meet some immediate needs and guess what the check is not in the mail..so guess who is on the hook now?..So forgive me if I really don't care if you're bike has a flat...lol....I say use the extra to begin training for a marathon..lol...On a serious note...I hope you pursue your dream...dare to be great my friend.
Do you think the penalties for Gordon were fair or maybe just a little short of what should have been?
Honestly...given what NASCAR did to Kyle Busch last season at Texas..though I like Gordon a lot, he should have been suspended for one race like Kyle...He not only took out a championship contender, but wiped out two other cars too..So if NASCAR isn't going to suspend him they should add to his 100,000K fine...he has to write a check to replace the Bowyer,Logano and Almirola cars.
Try this link instead http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/mailbag/_/id/45974/mailbag-mark-garrow . . . . it worked for me
Great...glad to hear that...last week I mistakenly left off the last "4" and everyone got a hockey mailbag...oops..lol
As an avid fan down here in the capital city, the one thing I love to do is grow spicy peppers, and watch the stock cars go around every sunday. NASCAR is the second biggest thing going on in my life right now compared to the peppers, but i have one question for you. What are the odds I ever get to see a NASCAR race come down south to my homeland?
Eduardo, I really thought we would build on the Mexico City deal...and have no idea what happens next..but we do need to have a race in Mexico just as we need one in Canada too...Thanks for being a fan..maybe the biggest south of the border.
Mark,I posted positive comments on Sunday, but is this a one and done since you provide an e-mail address or is it like Chicago politics where you are encouraged to "vote early and vote often"?By the way, I asure hope the 99 shows up Sunday to get some momentum - thoughts?
ha ha..funny Mike..no one's enough and it's much appreciated...unless you want to write in for a few dead people..lol...As for the 99 he'll be okay, but not great...you don't get good overnight for the final race..If Jimmie Fennig takes over as his crew chief next season as rumored...that will help Carl immensely.
Guru- I've locked myself into 3rd place in my league, which is a good thing. I'm only shooting for money from a race win this week, and in my single driver league 48, 11, 17, 5, 18 are already taken. you think the 2 is going to play it safe this week, and if so, who should i think about for a win (that's still left)?
David, again the 2 will play it safe...Bowyer is a possibility...Truex is another one I can see coming up big too...Biffle perhaps.
Besides my fantasy question Mark, where I can help w/feedback for the chats? Make sure you get the credit you deserve! Oh and if I'm not on Sunday, mind if I get a Happy B-day for next Tuesday? :)
You da man Nick and Happy Birthday dude! And write to..http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/45974
The "Nationwide" Series Head Quarters is Located in Ohio, Where is the "Sprint" Cup Series Head Quarters Located at?
Kansas City is where Sprint is headquartered if that's what you're asking.
Hey Mark, Do you see Matt Kenseth as the next Mark Martin, meaning driving into his old age (Not that Mark is old in his early 50's). He seems to be on another upswing.
I think Kenseth could do that Matt...He keeps himself in good shape...not a party animal..a regular family guy..still has great reflexes so that's not an issue.
Guru, do you think Ricky Stenhouse is good for a top 25 this weekend? Thanks, as always.
As long as he finishes Joanie, yes I think he can run top-25 pretty easily.
Yes please keep the Guru!! You have given me so much help and information this past season!!! Is there anything else we can do, send messages to someone to help keep you doing this? Let us know!!!!!
Well, Guru, no more questions for now - but I want to thank you for another awesome year. I'll be sending my comments in, and I'll be looking forward to seeing you again in February. (I'll be at the Sunday chat, I just rarely post there because my questions are always answered before I do, LOL).
Thanks Joanie..I feel like your Jotchie and I probably mangled the spelling..lol..
Hi Mark. Thanks for the chat sessions and great information. What do you think of this lineup: 48.,17,11,31,&43? Thanks.
I still say go with the 78 as your floor pick Jill and then work around that. You'll get a much better pair on the bottom than 31 and 43...the 48, 17, and 11 should be good though.
I was at the race in Phoenix and it was great (Although I didn't get to see my favorite driver more then 1 lap). Can the 56 rebound this weekend at a track he has been pretty awesome at?
Travis, I don't see any reason why not.
Guru, why do you rank the 16 so low? His history is strong at Homestead! Do you think the 99 can bounce back next season? Will the new cars help to level out the competition, at least early in the season?
I've got Biffle what tenth...so I'm think he's a lock top-10 and let's see how he does in practice and qualifying..he could be moving up in our race chat..
Guru, I'm happy for BK, Penske and dodge, but is nascar looking at any changes to the chase for next season? I would like to see more teams in contention at the end! Any thoughts on who could break through and make it next season? (Logano) thanks
Logano might..Kyle Busch will definitely be back in the Chase...Edwards should be on the way back..
A drivers I can use are Jimmie, Brad K, Denny. C drivers that I can use are bayne, labonte, ragan. Also, for b drivers I could also use ambrose, burton, kurt busch.
I'd go with Jimmie John...On the C I'd probably go with Bayne.....in the B class kurt busch and Ambrose..
Any other hidden driver tiff's that might come out in Homestead?
Don't think so Zippy.
Hey, Guru! Got my dad's team up by 23 points heading into the finale and need someone to play against Mark Martin. I am down to Trevor Bayne & Ricky Stenhouse. Gut feeling: Trev or Ricky? Thanks for all the help this season. It was great to finally meet you back during BOA 500 week here in Charlotte.
I think Stenhouse has a little more upside than Trevor...and it was great to meet you too.
Hey Guru ! How well do you think Kurt Busch will do this weekend ? Another top 10 ? And between the 43 and the 22 ... who would you give the node to this weekend ?
I think Kurt has a shot to run top-10 yes...43 and 22 are nearly a toss-up and would rate the 22 just a tick beter.
It's always sad this time of year when the chats will be put on hold for a couple on months but we really appreciate what you do for us fans Guru!!....Wednesdays and Sundays wouldn't be the same without your insite. I have 48, 2, 18, 5, and 78 on my team and I am second in my league as of right now. Is there any reason to mess with success??...lol...what does your initial team look like oh mighty goober??....i mean GURU....thanks again buddy!!
Looking at that team I would trade the 2 for the 17..as for my team...not sure yet...because I have to decide whether I keep Busch for the floor pick..or gamble with Stenhouse getting a top-20 at least and then I can afford any four drivers I want...daring to great not sure yet...lol
Mark, what do you think of the 88 this weekend. He has nothing to loose. Can't go lower than 12th and wont go higher either. Think he could just do a pedal to the metal and see what give out first, the field or the car?
I think Junior can wind up in the top-10 but he won't go too crazy..need a little more positive "mojo" before he starts 2013.
LOL - I LIKE it! Thanks, Guru!
48 and 6 or 78 and 29
78 and 29 is safer
How about this team: 17,18,29,56,78?
interesting Travis..different road and daring to be great.
Hey the link took me to a chat Mark. Is there an e-mail address I could send it to?
It isn't a chat..it's a mailbag deal..
Isn't Stenhouse racing this weekend, and wouldn't both make better choices then some of your bottom 30, especially in a Rousch Ford?
I'll be honest forgot to put him in the top-30...he'll be moved up in there on race day rankings you can be sure of that.
Here you go...I look forward each & every week for the NASCAR fantasy chats that Mark has. He brings much to them with his knowledge of each weeks race location
Why don't you just tell them what's really in your heart Mikey...I'm pure genius..lol
I've got to run...Sunday 12:30 eastern..be there or be square..until then have a great week..and may the force be with you...Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
