Happy Friday everyone. Lots of QB injuries this past week...what else is on your mind?
Chances of Ryan Mathews playing are?
Thrasherkj: Less than they were Weds. Early in the week it sounded like the Chargers thought he'd feel better, practice Thurs, then play. He wasn't better Thurs, couldn't practice and now there is some legit concern that he might not be ready. It's a late game. Be sure to have a backup plan.
Hi Stephania. How's it looking for Aaron Hernandez this Sunday?
Dan: Don't think he plays although that's not definite. Pats play again Thurs and I think that's when we'd see him (or the week after).
Is sproles going to be effective if he plays this weekend?
Joe: I think so. Sounds like he didn't miss a beat in practice. Looked good catching (obviously the worry after hand surgery) as well as running. Unclear how they handle the backfield now but I expect him to be effective when called on.
Thank you for your info. Very helpful.Mendenhall in a time share?
Hi Zeke, in my home state: I imagine that will be the case. Sounds like he's getting ready to play. His teammates seem to think he gets the start. But don't see him going to a full load out of the gate...and everyone else is healthy. SO they might rotate some things around.
Stephania.. DeMarco Murray - Do you think out this week and back on Thurs for Thanksgiving game?
Duane: I think out this week and potentially out Thurs too. The Cowboys have been clear about wanting him to be 100% before he takes the field. Hard to believe that happens if he doesn't practice. It's a short week. Not saying it couldn't happen, just that I wouldn't be surprised if he's out until the following Sunday.
Go Niners!! I really want to start Kaepernick this week.. is Alex Smith going to play? Thanks!
John: Well...it looks like Smith is on track to play. Assuming no setback between now and Monday.
Afternoon Stephania - Heard DHB got hurt in practice and sat out yesterday. Any news? I really like his matchup vs Saints this week. Thanks.
John: DOesn't sound like they think this is serious. More resting him to make sure it doesn't get worse. Feeling now is that he plays.
Stephania- acknowledging that concussions are difficult beasts (especially for someone without actual access to the patient), can we glean anything from the Bills' decision to rule Jackson out early in the week? Anything, that is, other than "It's a real nice luxury to have to awesome RBs."
Dave: No, think this was more of a function of time. Short week. No reason to rush. Make the call early.
Hi Stephania - Any update on Bradshaw? Were Giants just updated their RB list with the recent tryouts or is there legitimate concern here?
Mark: I think both. Not uncommon for teams to hold some tryouts during bye week. But we don't know what the results of the "battery of tests" Bradshaw went through for his neck were. We probably won't know more until next week. Hoping the bye just came at a good time and that there's nothing serious. Although his symptoms earlier this season going into his arm is a bit of a concern.
How worried should we be about Julio Jones for Sunday?
Steve: Pretty worried. The ankle keeping him out of practice and a gametime decision. When the coach says they want to give him as much time as possible before they make a decision, it tells you he's not close right now. And when he had the hand injury which they said wasn't that bad, he played but only caught one pass that first week, then was out of the game intermittently. Not feeling great about it as of today.
Hi Stephania! Do you think it is safe to start Jordy Nelson this weeK? He burned me last time and I lost to my husband!
Amy: That is so unfair. I actually was concerned about his hamstring that week and he ended up injuring his ankle on his first catch attempt. I think he's in much better shape after the bye. He's practicing, expect him to play. Obviously we can't say there's zero risk of a setback but the down time came at a great time for him.
Any chances the Jaguars shut down MJD for the season?
Nathan: I suppose anything's possible but I'm not seeing this at all. Unless he goes backwards. Think he's a little further out from returning than he said - but maybe within the next 2-3 weeks if he can progress to football activity without setbacks. The thing with a foot injury like his is that you rest it and hope it heals but then when you start testing it functionally (run/cut/pivot) it takes it to a whole new level. If doesn't do well there, throws off the timetable entirely.
Do you think G. Jennings is on track to come back soon? He just got dropped in my league so I'm looking to pick him up
Chris: My guess is first week of December. It could come sooner, but I don't think it will. The good news is that following this type of surgery guys tend to do really well and there is very low reinjury risk. Think he will come out strong in December.
Also Stephanie, I see you reference an article about trade deadline injuries, is that article out yet or will it come out shortly?
This afternoon, thanks.
How is Owen Daniels coming along for this weekend's game?
Michelle: Seems to be making enough progress that it looks like he'll play.
Really? nobody asked about Darren McFadden yet? Let me be the first.. what's the word Stephy!?
John: I think others have...just posting questions as I see them...so, lucky you! It doesn't look like he'll play. Not practicing but working on the side, did start to test with some running. Sounds like he might be just a week or two away. Obviously given his history there is caution warranted to ensure he's out of the danger zone before he returns but it's looking encouraging.
Any news on Beanie Wells? Is he set to start next week?
Mark: He says he is. Says he feels much better (esp his knee) than he did at any point last year. He still has to have his toe taped (he has been out this year with turf toe) so it's not completely in his past but sounds like he's running well now, despite that. I'm always guarded in my optimism when it comes to him given his repeated leg/foot injuries, but with Ryan Williams out, he will have plenty of opportunities once he comes back. Assuming he can stay back.
Is there really a chance Garcon might play this week? I picked him up off waivers just in case.
Frank: I think there's more than a good chance that he will. He's been in practice trying to prove he can play through this and he's been cutting, etc and looking pretty good. I'm hearing about 75-80%. Of course you're not mimicking in game effort and this is not a situation where the injury is fully healed. He's trying to play through something with the hope he can function effectively and not go backwards. Remains risky.
Any chance Welker misses the game? Saw he missed last two practices.
AJ: Always a chance. Especially with another game for them Thursday. But the other things he's done (including going through walkthrough and talking with media) hint more at his availability than anything else. May be getting extra rest precisely because there are two games so close together.
Do you believe Big Ben is done for the season? I really would like to drop him, but haven't heard an official word if he is toast for this season or not. Thank you!!!
Mookie: I do not. I think it's conceivable hye could return in several weeks if all goes well. Right now his pain is likely through the roof but that will subside and as long as he keeps it immobilized and things progress as expected and, most importantly, he can start to handle the ball comfortably, I could see him coming back at some point in December. If you need someone else more urgently to help your team, drop him b/c there are no guarantees on this one. But I do think there's reason to believe he comes back, partially because of what he's been able to do in the past.
Hi Stephania! Appreciate your insight! Any update on Donald Brown?
Dan: His situation harder to read. Normally don't like the missing practice on a Thursday. But they have two games in five days too so it may be a proactive measure of rest. Really want to see what he does Friday.
Is the raiders TE B Myers playing this week?
Bryan: Appears that way. He's back in practice. As long as there's no setback of concussion symptoms, looks like he goes.
Hello Stephania. What is the latest on C. Benson?
Hi Monty: Benson making good progress but hasn't tested high level activity. He is eligible to return to practice next week so that will tell us a lot. Can't play before Week 14 so that is the target. So far, so good but has to clear the next level of hurdles.
Its so close to noon and still no news on Percy Harvin, how is this guy looking?
Sam: Partly because they're on bye and there's nothing to report. The team seemed confident he'd be avaialble next week but there's nothing to go on other than their words at the moment.
I saw Michael Turner popped up on the injury report with a groin issue...should I be worried this will slow him down even more?
Steve: Well, it doesn't help. That said, they don't seem too worried in Atlanta except about Julio Jones. So I think Turner should be good for Sunday.
Will Sproles still return kicks? That's where he got me most of my points in our league.
Mark: Very good question. Team hasn't said yet. Think they just wanted to see how he responded to the consecutive practice days. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't at first.
Ray Rice status before you go?
Alex: No sense the team is overly concerned.
Time for me to run folks, have to jump on the radio. Have a great weekend and best of luck in Week 11!!
