Ok, let's get rolling...
Where would this weeks Bedlam game rank with the all time great home wins under Stoops?
The '03 Bedlam and '08 Tech wins were special because OU dominated in such big games. This one was different because of the way the Sooners had to win. Nebraska '00 remains No. 1. I would put Saturday night's game in the Top 5.
I know a lot of people are just assuming TCU is a W, but outside of Notre Dame, think this may be the best Defense we've played?
Still think Kansas State's D is better despite the Baylor debacle, but TCU is probably third. The Horned Frogs can play some D, and have a lot of young, exciting defensive players.
What Bowl Game will Oklahoma play in this season?
I laid it all out in today's story. Basically, if OU wins and Kent State loses, Sooners are in the Sugar. If Kent St wins, then they could knock OU to the Cotton, especially if UCLA too loses. But the Pac-12 and MAC title games are Friday night and will be worth paying attention to. OU's bowl fate might be sealed before the Sooners take the field Sat.
Any word on David King?
Ankle injury stemming from the WV game. Questionable for this week, but I think he plays.
Of all the bowl scenarios you laid out, would LSU or Florida be the most winable games. Sounds crazy, but I think we match up better with them than Oregon or A&M.
I kinda agree. This defense wants no part of Oregon right now. Ducks might score 70.
Seems like Brennan Clay has really solidified his position in the RB rotation and is now likely to be the primary ballcarrier. Who headlines at the position next year? Does DW reclaim the position? What about Alex Ross? Can Keith Ford show up and buck for playing time?
Should be interesting next season. Honestly, I think it will be by-committee again, with Williams and Clay handling most of the load. Ross is more likely to get carries than Ford, but we'll see. Coaches were high on Ross and David Smith in the preseason.
Do I need to suit up again for the Sooners to have any shot at stopping the run this week against TCU?
Can you bring the Boz, too?
Has Mike Stoops mentioned anything about how he is going to fix this defense after 2 straight no shows?
Talking to him tonight. Will have his comments up on the board after.
Jake-ster, With our demoralizing defeat and amazing post game celebration, do you think all those Little Bro fans will stop claiming they're on par with the SOONER MACHINE! GO SOONERS!
OSU would need 50 years of winning to be on par with OU. But think that organic crazy postgame celebration happens 10 years ago? The OSU program has come a long ways, and I think they're here to stay. They're loaded for '13, too.
Great game, great comeback, so are we now "OFFICIALLY" done with the LJ bashing? I think he should be getting some Heisman hype, he's really only had one bad game. Thoughts?
Too late for any Heisman hype. But he warrants consideration for All-Big 12 QB the way he's surged the last month.
Jake when will we get the big 12 championship game back?
When the Big 12 goes back to 12 teams, which could happen never or tomorrow.
Bell or Thompson next year? Hearing a lot of talk about Thompson lately.
Bell's job to lose. Watch out for Trevor Knight, though. Teammates quietly have raved about him as the scout-team QB.
Do you expect all of the recently injured players to play against TCU?
I expect both Franks Shannon and David King to play, yes.
Jake, wll I get some R-E-S-P-E-C-T this week? Or are the Sooner haters just waiting for me to fall on my face against TCU so they can rear there ugly heads once again?
Landry has done wonders for his legacy these last two weeks. He has a chance to go 4-0 in bowl games, 6-1 as a starter against Texas/OSU and he owns every single school passing record there is.
Hey, Jake, what the hell is going on with recruiting ? How's this team supposed to get better next year with a class barely ranked in the top 20?
Kansas State has done OK with a class that wasn't ranked in the top 50. Part of the equation is development. This class isn't done, though. I expect the Sooners to close strong.
Is the Geneo Grissom TE experiment over with now?
The TE experiment at OU might be done period. I kid of course. But I don't see much of a future for the position in Norman with the players they have on campus.
Is Metoyer overrated, or is he just getting out performed by better players this year? Still see him being a big contributor down the road?
True freshman. Cut him some slack. The potential is still there. Not everyone stars as a true freshman. Sometimes it takes time.
If you had to bet after this upcoming weekend's games do you think OU gets in the Sugar Bowl if they win?
Yes, because I think N. Illinois beats Kent.
Will Jaz Reynolds and Trey Franks be fully reinstated at the beginning of next year? And think if this years WR group didn't play as well as they have, that Stoops would have brought both receivers back earlier?
Probably so. I don't think they intended to suspend Jaz the entire season. Just worked out that way. The other guys playing ahead of him are better. That's why Franks got moved to DB early on.
Jaz going to get a shot at playing next year? Losing Brown and possibly Stills, it'd be nice to have him back in the rotation next year.
He'll have a shot, assuming he stays out of trouble through the offseason.
If OU wins the Big 12 outright, what are the chances of the Fiesta Bowl swapping teams with the Sugar due to Sooner fan Arizona fatigue?
That's a possibility. A 10-2 K-State for a 10-2 OU. That would require Texas winning this weekend, and with Case McCoy running the show, I don't see it.
With the recent Big10 moves, what moves if any does the Big12 have to make to "keep up" with the competition? And with 4, 16 team super conferences on the horizion, who gets left out? the Big12 or ACC? and why?
Really nobody worth adding, unless you're talking Florida State/Clemson. The ACC is still pretty strong despite losing Maryland.
The last two games for the OU defense has been staggering (not in a good way) to say the least. What significant changes do you see being made for TCU and your take on recruitment in that area?
Another game in the Metroplex is great for OU recruiting, not just this year, but beyond. Sooners probably go back to 2 LBs against TCU, which can't throw the way Baylor/WV/OSU can.
What percentage chance do you give my Longhorn team against Purple Kansas?
Do you think texas and m made a good move by going to the sec?
Do you think we can beat Florida if we go to Sugar? The have possibly the best defense.
Florida would be favored.
who is your vote for Big 12 First team qb?
Watching games this weekend before I decide, but it's between Landry and Klein.
Does your TE comment earlier mean the Sooners have no shot at landing Beau Sandland?
I said ON campus.
Who would you say is the Big12 newcome of the year? Think Sterling Shephard gets any votes?
I'd go with Justin Brown or Jalen Saunders before Sterling, who's had a nice year, but is not yet on the level of those two guys.
Answer theses bowl scenarios, OU loses to TCU who do we play and what bowl? OU wins and K state wins and OU wins and K state loses to Texas?
OU loses, Cotton is probable (though if Texas beat K-State, Cotton could take Longhorns to pit them against A&M); OU wins, Sugar Bowl is probable, provided Kent State loses; OU wins/K-State loses, Sooners going to the Fiesta, unless the Sugar took K-State and swapped them to the Fiesta for OU.
We know he has the legs, but do you think B. Bell has the arm to be the next QB?
Have you ever considered that I personally produced over half of Knight's passing yards and TD's? Coincidence that I'm starting as a freshman? Sure, he's a good runner and will make a solid receiver. Knight never takes a meaningful snap as a Sooner QB.
It's possible. Speaking of Hays, OSU has a ton of up-and-coming receivers. Cowboys and Sooners will have two of the top 5 WRs corps next season.
I am hearing some rumblings that OSU fans are upset at Mike Stoops for his reaction to the win, what did he do to make them so upset?
He was running around the field like a crazy person celebrating.
What are you hearing about Stoops leaving for another position?
If he turned down Florida, Ohio State and Notre Dame, I can't imagine he leaves for Tennessee. Can you?
The post game celebration was one of the craziest I've experienced in Norman in quite some time, it reminded me a lot of the Nebraska postgame in 2000. Is it because of who they beat, how they won or a little bit of everything creating the perfect storm of madness?
Beating a rival the way they did is cause for celebration. OU never led in the game until the final play.
How would rate the Sooners rivalry with K-State? Yes Oklahoma has won most meetings but this years victory in Norman and the Big 12 Championship Game in 03 I know doesn't make Sooners fans happy.
Probably there with Texas Tech. Secondary rival.
I,m picking northern illinois over kent state in order for oklahoma to go to the orange bowl.your thoughts.
Orange Bowl has last pick this year. If the Sooners are available, no way does the Sugar not scoop them up in favor of the Big East champ.
Random thought as I watched some of the local news sportscasts last night, is it me or does Jalen Saunders look a little like Chris Paul?
Don't think they look alike at all.
I don't agree with MootRoot. Sometimes his homerism gets carried away. Personally I think Little Orange Bro is kicking some butt in the Big 12. Heck, 3 QB's with Conference Wins AND over 1,000 yards passing each. I'm sweating bullets over next years game already. Will the Big 12 title land north of the Red River yet again next year? If not, who from down south can give it a run?
If I had to fill out my 2013 preseason Big 12 poll, I'd probably go 1. OSU (Bedlam in Stillwater), 2. OU, 3. TCU, 4 Texas.
Don't you think OU needs to send a nice Christmas card to the NCAA for allowing Jalen Saunders to play?
I would send an entire gift basket.
It's been ugly. It's been rough. Everyone love/hates me, but have I played well enough to earn a 1st round draft pick?
I actually do. Stocks for Barkley and Geno Smith have dipped. Landry's is surging up.
Why would the BCS select Kent State over Oklahoma? Yeah I'm sure fans would get super excited about Florida vs. Kent State in the Sugar Bowl instead of Florida vs. Oklahoma.
BCS rule. Any non-AQ team that finishes in the Top 16 of the BCS gets an automatic bid.
Is Cyber Monday the best time to find deals on your OU/Texas book on-line?
Absolutely. Check Amazon.
Here is the link to Jake's Bowl article. good stuff. http://espn.go.com/blog/colleges/oklahoma/post?id=16313
How do you rate the Sooners chances of landing both Bain and Manning?
Better chance of Manning than Bain, but both are in play. DT a huge position in this class. Sooners need a Juco, too.
Any chance Oklahoma plays Texas A&M in cotton?
I was quite upset with the way OU reacted after winning? I am a firm believer in not giving little brother anything to make it seem like a moral victory. Would have been happier with the Seniors taking a bow and walking off. Let the fans be the idiots.
OSU fans are like the Euros a few years ago after the US won the Ryder Cup and did some celebrating. And it wasn't crazy in Stillwater last year around this time?
Fair enough, but you can't rip OSU for celebrating after winning Bedlam when you hold your biggest home postgame celebration since beating No. 1 Nebraska in '00. Mike Stoops was running around like OU had won the national championship.
Why has OU slowed their offense pace the last couple of years? For example Oregon picked it up and became successful while OU hasn't had late season title hopes since slowing the tempo. Do they go back to the up tempo
Offensive depth. Sooners have to preserve what few offensive linemen they have left.
CMon Jake....you gotta mention the importance of the Nebraska-Wisconsin game. OU fans are thinking all that's gotta happen is for Kent State to lose and if Nebraska can't beat Wisconsin, it won't matter....Northern Illinois will jump into the top 16. Personally, i'm worried about that game. Go Huskers.
UCLA-Stanford holds more importance because the Bruins are one spot ahead of Kent. UCLA is a big underdog going to Stanford, too.
Do you have a heisman vote?
Now that Landry Jones has officially left the Nate Hybl(whipping boy) status for good. Where do you rank him among the all time greats of the Stoops Era?
Hard to rank him any higher than fourth. Sam and Jason won Heismans, and Heupel won the natty.
Do voters manipulate their votes to keep Kent State from crashing the BCS party?
I doubt it. Regardless, a win over No. 12 NIU will only help them in the CPUs.
Is what OU did on Saturday after the game really any different than what OSU did last year or are OSU people making a bigger deal of it because OU has dominated the history of the series? Personally I think they do the same thing Stillwater, even tear down the goal posts again which would be even worse than anything that happen Saturday.
OSU celebrated way more by storming the field last year. But in the history of their program, that was a much bigger win than it was for OU Saturday. That said, in 6 seasons covering this team, I've never seen a postgame celebration like that, especially by the coaches. I think that says something about the way they view OSU these days. Same with the fans, who stayed around and celebrated, too.
What every happened to Whaley? Has he not fully recovered from his injury or have other guys stepped up?
actually, it is a non aq in top 12 but it changes to top 16 if there is a bcs league that is below that team. this year that is the big east with no one even in the top 25
Correct. Didn't feel like trotting out the entire rulebook, but you're right.
Why does it seem Johnny football is a Heisman lock when Adrian Peterson and Herschel Walker both lost the Heisman due to being freshman? Thats a lot to live up to if he wins
I wouldn't call Johnny Football a lock just yet.
If OU wins Saturday don't you think they will gain a lot of ground in the polls? Seeing as how their bye weeks have them at somewhat of a deficit right now?
Really makes no difference. Their ranking in the BCS will have no bearing on their bowl selection.
Who do you think starts opposite of Colvin at DB next year?
Gary Simon or Cortez Johnson. Whoever loses the battle will be the third CB or play some dimeback.
How epically bad would a Florida-Kent State Sugar Bowl or a Florida State-Kent State Orange Bowl be? For cryin out loud, Kentucky beat Kent State by 30.
If Ga. Tech beats Florida State and Kent wins, it could be Ga. Tech-Kent State in the Orange Bowl. The Humanitarian Bowl has hosted better matchups.
Any news on Bain's visit from this past weekend?...we really need a DT for this class!
All the latest recruiting updates are posted on our forum. Bob is all over the Bedlam recruiting weekend.
do you see Jefferson/Stills/Clay coming back for there senior season?
Clay definitely; Stills probably; Jefferson possibly.
Any word on the recruits visiting this past weekend? I thought there would have been at least one commitment by now.
By the end of the week, could be a couple. We'll see.
Is the lack of DL commits something to worry about? Any JUCO players on the radar?
I'm more concerned with who is going to play DT next season. Jordan Phillips and who else is there?
Jake, there is no chance Oklahoma plays A&M in the Sugar because Georgia/Alabama and Florida will have BCS bids and no more than two teams from a conference can go in a given year.
Right, but they could meet in the Cotton.
Who is your pick to win the heisman then?
Haven't voted yet and won't until Sunday.
Gut feeling is Man'ti wins the Heisman in a close one because of being at Notre Dame, having a great story & Manziel being a Frosh. Crazy or too close to call?
Will come down to Te'o and Manziel.
Do you think a Kevin Sumlin coached TAMU team would be leading the Big XII right now?
Depends on their schedule... would they be playing in Norman, Manhattan, Stillwater?
So do you think we're out of the BCS unless UCLA wins? That would be a pretty tenuous hope.
Not if Kent State loses to NIU, which is more likely to happen than not. NIU a 5-point favorite.
Who do you see stepping up in the off season to take over the interior defensive line positions? Will they be any better?
Jordan Phillips and somebody that's not on campus yet.
Is D Williams hurt or did Gundy just go with the hot RB in Clay?
The hot hand.
could you see the Sugar bowl picking A
No. Plus Florida probably will finish ranked third, which would guarantee them the Sugar Bowl under BCS rules.
How much do you think Landry Jones and Kenny Stills have improved their draft stock the past few weeks? Shoud both of them be taking Jalen Saunders out to dinner on a weekly basis?
Landry should be taking all the wideouts out to Legend's; for that matter, this o-line too. That group somehow continues to protect even though they have only about eight healthy legs left between them.
Biggest concern for defense besides DT heading into 2013?
QB, LB, S.
What position did Sumlin coach at OU?
Do I have your vote? Or do you consider me a traitor to the conference and thus eliminate me from the top consideration my play deserves? DON'T HATE JAKE!!!!!
No hater here.
Couldn't Klein still have a shot at the statue with a big game against UT?
Nope, he'll be lucky to make it to the Big Apple for the ceremony.
With all the coaching positions open anyone on the OU staff up for them?
Haven't heard anybody connected to any job thus far.
Where do you see the sooners next year compared to this year? record wise and also what underclassmen declare for the draft this year?
Jefferson/Stills/Colvin/Millard will all give the jump a look. 10-2 seems likely again, given the road games in South Bend and Stillwater.
I was glad to see LJ come back in after only taking one play off from a pretty nasty hit. He showed me that he has some guts.
He is one of the most durable players I've ever seen.
Am I crazy to think that part of our defensive woes as of late might have something to do with OU not having a bye week since September?
Yes, you're crazy.
The TCU Defense is going to make OU fans forget about 'good Landry' The Horned Frogs win big!!
How much will TCU'd D be able to slow OU's pinball offense. Only 35 first downs this week?
Sooners can score against anyone in the Big 12.
Treadwell the WR from Chicago said OU is in great shape? Think we land him?
Hard to say at this point. Other bluebloods after him, too.
Guys, that's all the time we've got today. Thanks for all the questions. We'll do it again next Monday, same time, same place. Until then, have a great week.
