Good morning, gang! Let's get to the next sixty minutes of fantasy football chattage as the playoffs come ever-so-closer to starting. Second cup of coffee in hand... call it in the air!
Houston or Dallas DST this week?
I lean to Houston, even though the Eagles have tons of injuries on offense. Maybe Vick returns? That might seal the deal for me towards the Texans.
Need a rival team to lose in order to win championship. Our trade deadline is set to Wednesday this week with week 13 being last reg. season game. Keeper league (4). Is it legal to trade bench players (knowshon, cards d, reggie bush) to the rival's opponent for discounted picks?
Personally, I have no issue with this, especially not in a keeper league. The value you get back in return needs to be something... but a few draft picks or decent injured players who will return next season? That's OK by me.
Kaepernick or Freeman this week?
Once we know for sure that Colin is starting, it's him. We need to wait until Harbaugh makes it official though -- he is clearly thinking about Smith.
Better pickup...M. Bush or Moreno??
I have no faith longterm in Moreno doing the job. But I do have more faith that he starts this week and next than I do in Bush, since he sits once Forte is good to go. For this week only, I might gamble with Bush... but if we're talking about one spot for the playoffs? It's *gulp* KnoMo.
Deangelo Williams worth a pickup vs KC this week if JStew cant go?
If you are trying to avoid a zero, then you can do it. Aside from that, I want no part of DeAngelo.
With Jennings returning, how do you feel about Nelson and Cobb ROS?
I don't think he hurts them. Packers are going to throw a ton regardless. It's what they do. the way Cobb has played, I think Jones is one who gets hurt the most.
Any word on Edelman's status for wk13 from that vicious hit? If he can't go does that finally give Lloyd that big game he's been missing all year?
It's the Patriots. He'll be listed as questionable regardless of if he's fine... they never talk injuries unless there's actually surgery or broken bones that can't be hidden. I think Lloyd can give you a low-WR2,high-WR3 game this week.
Is Shorts a must start the rest of season?
With Henne under center, yes.
Which teams would you look at for weekly match-ups for defenses for weeks 13, 14, 15? I have Seattle but the potential suspensions make me nervous.
Shouldn't be nervous this week, as appeals likely keep them both in the game. You look for teams playing bad offenses. Who is playing against Seattle? Who is facing the Jets?
Lance Moore or Britt this week?
No way I'm putting any faith in Britt.
Do you think B.Brown do what he did last night again next week over the cowboys?
Not to that extent, but I'm sure he can get you 80 and a score versus Dallas. Don't think the team rushes McCoy back.
You like Garcon this week? Better then Gordon or Hartline?
Definitely better than Hartline.Slightly ahead of Gordon.
Should I drop Rivers for Kaepernick?
I don't think you can if we're talking a starting QB. As a backup, sure.
Are you buying Broyles & Blackmon as reliable WR2's ROS?
I'm higher on Broyles than Blackmon, but I don't think either has done enough to show me that they are in WR2 territory. Flex? Sure.
Should I start Dalton over Eli and Luck if my opponent has AJ? It would be nice to offset Greens pts.
Ah, the old offset question. I start my best players and only consider the offset thing if it's close. After all, one can easily say that his Green offsets your Andy. For me, Eli gets the call this week.
What gives with the RB carousel last week? Please rank Parmele, Knoshown, Hillman and B. Brown rest of season. Thank you!
Parmele is hurt and may not play this week. Have to rank him last. Brown goes back to backup once McCoy returns, but he starts for this week so he's second. Moreno is first because he'll be starting until he messes up.
Best team name you've ever had?
Always subjective that... this year I've got " Herschel's Farm" -- http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tRrHS_dXKIU/UDJ5o3m1_hI/AAAAAAAAAHE/mGi2om-6fNg/s320/hersh.jpg
AJ: Loved "How Fantasy Sports Explains the World"....anything new from you? What is Reece's value ROS?
Thanks for the plug... we have something in the works for an encore. Reece has value still in a PPR league, even when DMC returns. Standard? Not so much.
How about Brandon Marshall against Sea this week? Do you ever bench the guy? I am starting a playoff week, and this is his first matchup, so if I was ever going to bench him, this would be the week
No. You don't bench him. He might get 20 targets given the Hester/Forte injuries. I don't care who is in the secondary. With that amount of throws, he's bound to catch a few.
There's no way I replicate this past Sunday's performance right? All I did was dupe people into starting me during the most important weeks of the year.
Can't count on the TDs, no. I'd still rank Wells at the tail end of my top 20 this week.
Always started M. Lynch as 'matchup proof' RB, but he nearly cost me a win last week when I started him instead of Spiller. This week I'm going with Spiller vs. Jags....good move or not?
Typically, I'd avoid "switching horses midstream" syndrome. If you have a bell cow, you ride him all the way. However, against Chicago, with Spiller as a quality alternative? Every rule has an exception.
Big Ben possibly back this week; do you see him more of a game manager or will he have to try and play like he usually does?
If Ben plays, he plays his game. Now, certainly if he's only able to perform at half-speed, it will affect the stats, but it shouldn't change the game-plan.
RG3 or Matty Ice this week, who are you rolling out?
Both will have good games. I'm trotting out the Ice, though.
Should I play both Witten and Aaron Hernandez this week at TE/FLEX or put in someone like Leshoure or Marcel Reece in at the FLEX spot instead?
In most cases, I go RB at flex over any other position if I know the touches will be there. This one is closer than most calls, but I like Leshoure.
Austin's zero this week cost me the win (lost by 2 pts), and he hasn't been performing at his usual levels. What is your read on him ROS, and would you start him this week over say Lance Moore or Fitzgerald?
He's banged up. Multiple places. It's hard to rely on him right now, so no way I start him this week. I'd go Fitz.
Ethics Question....I got eliminated from playoff contention last night. Is it bad form to tank the remaining games to improve next years draft position?
The short answer is yes. If we're talking inserting injured players or leaving lineup spots blank... you don't do that. Now, if you have a choice to start a guy like Quizz Rodgers and want to do so to root for him? I have no problem with that kind of thing - but just remember other owners will notice what you do and do the same to you when you need a win in future seasons.
Amendola or Fitzgerald.....in 0.5 ppr
Can't trust Amendola to play a full sixty.
Any idea who among us has the best value rest of season? Dwyer listed as the RB1, but who knows anymore?
Few things are more useless than the NFL depth charts. What matters is what happens on the field, not off of it - especially when it is often a tool coaches use for motivational purposes. I happen to think Dwyer has best chance to win the job ROS, but any of the top three has a legit shot.
Do I ever take the field the rest of this season or am I just going to pretend like I have a chance and never play??
I do think there's a good chance Murray plays this week. Not a lock by any means, though.
AJ, give me a little love, would ya? Continue to roll will A.Boldin as my #3 receiver or make a move for Sanu or Broyles?
Have them both ranked ahead of Boldin this week, and really have never liked him as a fantasy factor int he Ravens offense.
any word on Forte.. do you think he play?
If I had to guess, I think he *could* play this week if the game were a must win, but it really isn't. I'd expect Bush to start.
How confident would you feel starting Turner, even at flex, ROS. Maybe plug in Jennings a week after he gets his feet wet?
With every passing week, I feel less and less confident. Jennings, assuming he has a 3-for-30 kind of Week 13 gets my nod going forward.
Are you getting worried about Falcons sitting during the fantasy playoffs? If so, is Andy Dalton a decent replacement for Matt Ryan ROS?
With the two-game lead on the No. 2 spot, yes. Dalton is more than adequate as a fill-in should it get to the point that Ryan is expected to play a series or two and sit...
Would you start Shorts ahead of Marshall or Colston this week?
Not ahead of Marshall. Maybe ahead of Colston.
Which QB is better for Vernon Davis' fantasy value?
Probably Smith. Both are going to involve him in the game plan, but a TE is certainly going to see more targets from a passer who is less apt to take to sprinting.
So my commish decided yesterday that he wanted to change the playoff format witout asking anyone. Changing it from 2 week matchups to 1 week, thus eliminating 2 weeks of playoffs (wks 14/17). I argued against this because it shortens the season and makes the playoffs more of a tossup between who had the better week instead of who had the better team. AM i wrong for being outraged at this travesty?
You cannot change something like that mid-season... and certainly not without a UNANIMOUS vote from all owners. Don't have an issue with the one-week vs. two-week thing - that's up to the league. But you CAN'T CHANGE IT NOW.
Trying to address an issue before it arises. We play on ESPN, where the tiebreaker for playoff seeding is intra-divisional record. Two teams are playing for the bye this week and have the same intra-divisional record. Is there a second tiebreaker? If not, which is the best option: most points for, H2H record, paper-rock-scissors, coin flip. And would it be bad to introduce this rule in season?
And so it begins... leagues realizing that they need a tie-breaker written and in place weeks before it needs to be effected. No rules can be decided on now. Default is overall points scored, but your LM may have chosen something else when the league was set up. Whatever is in place, ride with it for now... then decide what you want going forward inthe off-season.
My WRs are cursed - Harvin, Brown, Amendola, Austin - chances they come back this week or make a play on someone like Shorts/Hilton (PPR with return yards league)
Amendola is back, but likely not playing a full 60. Harvin I would be surprised to see. Ditto Austin. Brown, I believe will return. Definitely would make a play for one or both of the others.
I have the #2 seed and a first round bye locked up; and looking at apotential week 15 playoff matchup. I am thinking about plugging some bench players into some starting spots in an effort to lose to the current 3rd place team so that they keep the 3rd seed and play me in week #15; as the #4 seed is really getting hot and putting up big points the last few weeks. Is this kosher?
*CAN* you do it? Sure. *SHOULD* you do it? I mean, if your tanking ends up changing who gets in the playoffs, I'd not even consider it. Assuming all the other spots are locked in, I still personally would not do it. It's hard enough to predict what players will have the best week on your own team as it is... now you're trying to project what players on two other teams will be best in a future week? Karma has a way of getting you when you try this move.
Ethics question: If you have a player on your team on the IR you can place him on the IR and pick up a player if you choose to. What's your thoughts a team placing Ogletree (He played on Thursday-Thanksgiving) on the IR Friday after he already played so he could pick up a player?
I always play in league where roster moves are all done on one day (Wednesday). You can still make changes on who is starting for you up to kickoff, but once Thursday comes around, no more pickups and IR issues and what not. This avoids problems like this. Barring a rule preventing it at present, if he was able to do it, you have to let him do it... and change the rule for next season if you don't like it.
I have a top waiver wire spot and B.Brown, Moreno, and J.Rodgers are all available. Who would be the safe pickup for a backup RB ROS?
If I'm looking for a backup, it's Jacquizz.
In a redraft league that does allow 1 keeper, do you have a problem with owners trading 2012 players for a 2013 draft pick? The owner that was out of the playoffs this season got a high draft pick in 2013, while the other owner on the playoff bubble got players to help him make the playoffs this season. Unfortunately, we had no written rules against this kind of thing in place already, but it does seem shady. Thoughts?
Why does that seem shady? That's exactly what you do in a keeper league. You trade away the present for the future.
OMG enough ethics questions.. Teams need advice to make playoffs, not play for next year!!! Will Michael Vick be a playoff asset? Palmer or Henne this week?
Quit your whining, Sean. It's my chat and I'll answer the question I want to... and few other places will answer these typed of Q's. Ethics questions are always welcome. And if you have Vick on your team right now, you are the one playing for next year. Palmer for me this week.
That's all the time we have for today... we'll be back next week to take more Q's, and I'm always around on Twitter (@ajmass) in case I didn't get to you. Until then, as always, good luck and nay the odds be EVER in your favor.
