hi guys. This chat is going to be a little shorter than usual because I have unexpectedly co-host the Coop & Nate Show on 103.3 from 2-3. So let's roll.
I hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving. I have two questions. First, is it safe to say that a great pass rush is more essential than coverage? Second, is it the same staff that finds "off the street" players during the season that drafts? Why the discrepancy? They seem better at the former than the latter.
pass rush has always been more important than coverage. Cowboys could't get a pass rusher last year, so they opted for coverage. There's a pro personnel department and a college scouting dept
JJTwhat are chances we see murray on the field. do you argee we need to let go felex jones & give the rookies
I don't know if we'll see Murray this season. Until you hear he practiced on Wednesday and Thursday, I wouldn't expect to see him. After the season, I'd be looking for RBs. It does no good to release any of them right now
If we're honest, even if the lightbulb clicked today isn't this team way too ravaged by injuries to even be competitive. It's constantly said all teams have injuries and you need to overcome them but that only holds true to an extent. I've never seen a team have this many injuries to key players
they're compromised now, but that doesn't have much to do with their inconsistent play this season. But there does come a point where injuries prevent you from playing
could be with is experience callahan be a better play caller than garrett ?
no one can call good plays with that OL
special teams start to play better, because harris or they are blocking better
any PR or KO return blocker will tell u that when u have a guy u believe in, you block better and hold it a little longer because of the possibilities of taking it to the house
Not Cowboys related, but curious as to your thoughts on Suh's kick. Did you think it was intentional? I have a hard time believing it was not
i's hard to peek into another dude's mind and know what he was thinking. But based on his reputation and that little twist at the end, it looked like it was on purpose. Kind of sad. I thought he was gonna be one of the great DL and he's just a guy
Why will you and the other reporters not insist that Jason Garrett be made to stay at the podium and fully answer tough questions, on the record, until you guys say he can go? The man should be made to stand up there with security keeping him from leaving the podium and tell everyone why he takes so long to get plays called in (delay of game following a false start), why he can't get the offense going early (don't give me the "too many hurt and underacheiving players, because the offense is almost always rolling in the 2nd half), and why he insists on calling the plays when he would have less on his plate if he had an O-Coordinator? Yes, as a representation of the fans, since you and your colleagues are the only ones who get in the press room to ask questions, it is your job to demand answers. Jason Garrett gets made tons of money that is made possible through ticket sales, TV deals, and merchandise bought, and all of that is due to fans paying money to be a part of the Cowboys. Jason Garrett should be made to answer to the ones who pay his bills, which are the fans. He should not be allowed to snake away into the locker room. You and the other reporters allow these guys to get tons of praise when they do well, and escape the scorn when they screw up. He needs to earn his $$$ by winning games and being held accountable through the media when he does poorly.
I'm so sick of this question. Mike Wallace couldn't make jason answer a question he doesn't want to answer. We ask questions all of the time. Most of the ones that are tough happen off camera after his public interview. It's not his job to tell you why a dude sucks no matter how much u want to know. His job is to protect his players.
Can we question Jason Garrett game planning? it seems like every game this season it take the cowboys a half to get in the flow of things and adjust to the defense
I would think so. They have the worst 1H differential in the NFL and they haven't led a single game by 7-0 this year. Their HT adjustments are fine, but the stuff during the week ain't getting the job done
As a cowboy fan and a Romo fan, i fear that he may opt to not resign with Dallas. Any thoughts?
technically, he has a year left on his deal and the Cowboys could franchise him for two years after that. Then he'd be 36. In his best interest to sign with team
Do you think its smart for the rangers to give hamilton 4 years?
They seem intent on 3. The dude quit going into his FA year. I don't want to make him more comfortable.
Do you think Harris and Beasley can get the job done as 3 and 4 guys?
no idea. They haven't played enough. That said, we should not see Ogletree on the field aside from injury the rest of this season
Whats the likelihood garrett back next year in your opionion?
As long as Sean Payton remains in play, there's a chance he could wind up in Dallas. There's a reason he hasn't re-signed with NO.
Blessings JJT - Thanks for hosting today's chat. Is it safe to say that Dez has turned the corner and has become a more reliable receiver over the past few weeks? If so, what's been the difference? Thanks brutha.
He's been doing a terrific job lately. I think he's practicing better and harder and studying more. He had success doing that and now he's trying to replicate that success each week. He has confidence he can make plays and so he's making them. He's earned trust from the coach and the QB and now it's paying off
Ahh yes, so the man gets to bask in the praise of the reporters and fans when he does well, but he gets to hide when he makes repeated poor play calls and game management mistakes....can you at least get him to acknowledge this luxury, and luxury he gets while making $$$millions per year? And also, you love to "live in reality" in these chats, but when you show up to Valley Ranch, it's like you have a membership to the Country Club. What do all of you guys say to Jerry and Jason when you show up? "I'll have some ice tea with lemon please, and don't worry about the tough questions, who care about losses when we can all just protect each other? Ah hahahaha"
you sound jealous
JJT - would much rather see Albright starting @ ILB instead of Sims and getting more p/t than Poppinga. I say live and die w/ young guys @ .500. Thoughts?
I'm not opposed to that, but they're still trying to make playoffs and other guys could give them a better chance
Liked your article on Garrett and play calling. Do you think they will bring in Norv turner to be play caller after he gets fired
not interested in that. Another face from the glory years. Can we move on? It has been 20 years
Are you going to sign the petition....or have you already?
not into politics
Do you think Andy Reid will be in the mix for HC next year if Garrett were to be let go?
based on what you've seen the last 2-3 years, do u want that? I'll pass
You think Jerry is crazy enough to trade Romo and draft a rookie QB and groom him under Orton?
if he wants to go 4-12
Where has DeMarcus Ware been lately? In your words, seems to be "a guy" lately. Just not a difference maker.
He still leads the team in big plays, according to my list. He had 4 more than Spencer entering the Washington game. More to the game than sacks.
If Dallas brought in a hard nose type of HC like Greg Schiano, do you think players would respond to him?
they responded to Parcells
Opinion - if team finishes .500 or 9-7 and out of playoffs does Jerry think they are "close" or wholesale changes made in player personnel? And are either of those enough to keep Howdy around?
The Packers and Giants have him convinced a team can get hot in the postseason and win a title. It's a dumb thought process
I have been a long time boys fan, what is going on with our O-line? and do you think that the Cowboys should consider banning jerry from all home games. Since it seems that we can never win at home when we need to?
not enough talent. Aside from Smith no one has the potential to be anything more than above average
What are your thoughts on Spencer's performance this year, he seems to be playing pretty well
outstanding. Better than I would've imagined
I find it crazy how Premature all of this Lusting after Sean Payton is with the fans and Dallas Media. It's way too soon for all of this talk New O intends to keep him and has until February to fix his contract. He isn't even available yet. I think all of this Payton talk could prove to be a waste of time and make Dallas fans and Media look foolish for all of this talk. I'd say Just keep Garett, make him a walk around coach and get him an Oline and some some more players. Thoughts??
then why hasn't been done. They've had MONTHS to fix some language. It's not money - just language. Maybe he returns to NO, but his kids are in DAllas, he has a close relationship with JErry, the Cowboys' defense has more pieces than Saints, the Cowboys' cap is in better shape than Saints, Romo is a legit QB and the Cowboys are one of the destination point franchises. Doesn't mean he's leaving NO, but don't act like it couldn't happen
sorry I gotta cut this one short, but I gotta get to radio station. You can always hit me on facebook or Twitter (JJT_ESPNdallas) if you have questions
