Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Let's get rolling.

Trevor (Toronto)

Since it's looking like chiefs will get the #1 pick, who do you think they'll take?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Million dollar quesiton. I think, right now, it could come down to Geno Smith, Star L and T'eo. But a lot cna change.

Vijay (Nashville)

Hi Bill: How worried should a Broncos fan be about our run defense with Martin coming to town? KC really gashed us last week.

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

It's a concnern for sure. But Del Rio has been a good adjuster.

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

I think everything is on the table for Williams down the stretch. He'll play where he can help.

papworth (Brooklyn)

Have the Raiders been struck with bad luck regarding their supposedly safe drafts picks the past ten years? Huff, Gallery, McClain, McFadden, Russell... C'mon... one of these players should've panned out!

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Pretty amzing huh?But McFadden has been fine. And the late-round picking has been solid.I really didn't think McClain would flame out. I had no problem with that pick. Few did.

Tony (Denver)

Who is your favorite player that you have ever covered? Who gave the best interview? Who gave the best sound bite?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Many, many. But I really enjoyed covering Brett Favre during my one season in Green Bay. He was great.

JJ Watt (Houston)

Who is DPOY. Me or Von Miller?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

What about Aldon Smith or Tillman? Great candidates this year.

Sam (Denver)

Bill, time to pull out your crystal ball:Coach of San Diego next year is?Coach of Oakland next year is?Coach of KC next year is?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

I broke it after the KC pick this year.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Ok, I'll play.Just a gues here on Nov. 29. Things can change.SD: David Shaw.KC: Bruce Arians.Oak: Dennis Allen.

john (missouri)

If you were GM of the Chiefs, would you draft TEO with the #1 pick and possibly pick QB Glennon in the 2nd round... I don't think there is a franchise QB in Barkley or Geno Smith

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

That's tricky because no QB taken in the second round can be expected to come in and start and the Chiefs need a starting QB, I'd almost rather see them trade down a few spots, get some picks and take someone like Geno Smith at No. 10 or so.

Jason (Denver) [via mobile]

Love your work, Bill. Is it possible Pioli stays and Crennel goes in KC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

I gyuess, but I doubnt it. Is Pioli going to be allowed to pick his third coach in four years?I think they either both stay or they both go, likely both go.

James (Boulder)

What do you think of the Broncos safeties?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

They are servicable. Moore has made great strides this seoasn and Adams is a decent pro.

Greg (Dallas) [via mobile]

Bill, What are you hearing on the development of Osweiller?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Just plugging along. There is no urgnecy. He's long-term. But they like him.

Larry (Wichita)

I don't think there is a QB worthy of #1 overall pick this upcoming draft. What would you think about the Chiefs trading down with the Niners to get Alex Smith and then draft someone in that spot to develop?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

He's an option with the rookie QB class being weak. He could be a bridge QB. I know he isn't great and I know he doens't excited the fan base, but the other options are not great, either.

Ryan (Lake Tahoe)

I'm personally glad to be rid of Rolando McClain. You agree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

My favorite town, by the way:Look, I know McClain was lacking on the field and he didn't seem like he was a tema guy. But anytime the No. 8 pick is in danger of being cut in hsi third season, it is not a good thing. It's things like this that hold up organizations.

dan (milwaukee)

Walk me off the Charger Cliff BW. The Andy Reid rumors make me nautious. I don't see the fit. The Eagles are Chargers East.Arians? John Pagano? Perry Fewell?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

I don't think Reid would be terrible, but I get it. Trading one veteran flameout for another is not exactly inspieing. But Reid is a good coach and he may be recharged in San Diego. But I think they may be other options.

Khalid (fort wayne, Indiana) [via mobile]

How different do you think the raiders defense will look next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Much. It'sa totla work in progress.

Travis (Colorado)

How many Coaches will Denver lose at seasons end.

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I think Mike McCoy will get a gig. Not sure if anyone else. Jack Del Rio may get some looks.

Chuck (Omaha)

Do you think the Broncos might snag McClain? If so do you think some solid coaching from fox and del rio might bring out the potential he showed before he was drafted?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I can see him being considered. He could help. But he will need a lot of coaching and things are going so well, I'm not sure Denver will want to deal with it right now. But I wouldn't be shocked, If I had to say there was a McClain favorite in the AFC West, I'd think it would be Denver.

Matt (San Diego)

Let's assume temporarily that Norv Turner gets fired (not that its likely he won't). Who is on the short list to replace him, and where do you think that Norv would end up going? Would another team take him as a head coach, or would he return to a coordinator spot?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

We are going to look at posisble new AFC West coaches on the blog Friday. As for Turner, I think he will be popular as an OC.Perhaps Denver will look at him if McCoy goes. I think that could be a real possibility if the scenario plays out.

Andy (Chicago)

You said before the Huff could stay at CB. Please tell me that doesn't mean Giordano stays at saftey. He shouldn't even be on the team!

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I would think Oakland will look to upgrade at Goiordano's spot if Huff stays at CB.

Andy (Chicago)

Where do you see Ma'tio getting drafted? Would the Raiders be interested in him now that McClain is gone?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Top-five guy. Oakland currently on pace for No. 4 pick. Raiders would love him. I think they are a top contender to get him. Mel Kiper thinks he could end up in K.C. at No. 1, though.

Greg (Dallas) [via mobile]

Bill, What's the word on the Broncos' RB mix going forward? I have to think we'll see more Hillman than we did last week.

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I think it is a wokr in progress. They are looking for the hot hand. Moreno will get more chances. I think we have to see Hillman more too.

ppleschamp (oakland,ca)

if oakland goes lets say 0-5 or 1-4 down the stretch does DA get fired?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

With home losses to Cleveland and KC? Go 3-13? I'd think Mark Davis would be heated for sure.

Josh (Washington, DC)

Is it a safe bet that the Chargers will take at least two offensive linemen in the first three round (unless they sign a new starter in free agency)?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

They drafted Torutman and Molk this year, but yes, it will be an area they look at.

Chuck (Omaha)

Have you ever seen a draft with as many defensive stars as last year with miller, watts, and smith just to name a few

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

It's amazing, isn't it.

Greg (Dallas) [via mobile]

Bill, I hear a lot of DThomas comps for Von Miller. But I think he looks a lot like Wilbur Marshall at his best. Ever heard that comparison?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Just a bunch of Thomas comparisions, but that is interesting. Thanks.

bob (p-dizzle)

what do the raiders do now with mcclain leaving?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Omar Gaiother probably in line to start rest of the season.

Greg (Dallas) [via mobile]

Best stadium in the division?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Arrowhead is special.

Super Charger (SoCal)

Good QB play usually corresponds to a good team. Have you ever seen a situation like Oak where Palmer is putting up some great numbers on such a bad team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Lots of garbage-time numbers. Not knocking him, but nhat can't be denied. The Raiders fall behind big and its bombs away.

Greg (Dallas) [via mobile]

Bill, Is covering Peyton more fun than the Tebow 3-Ring Circus?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

It's all football-related, so, yes.

Tarek (NYC)

Do you think the Raiders would take a shot at bringing back Nnamdi if the eagles cut him in the off-season? He is a high quality person and was a high quality player/teamate in Oak before.

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

It looks like he could be cut, so, yes, I think perhaps Oakland would be interested in him aain. It could use him.

Super Charger (SoCal)

If SD makes the playoffs why should that alone be enough for Norv to stay? Spanos fired Marty after a 14-2 season. Have expectations really become that low in SD?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Interesting point.

Chuck (Omaha)

Do you think Harris and Carter could handle being 1 and 2? If so do you think the Broncos might draft a CB and move champ to safety?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

if Harris and Carter keep improving, yes, I can see than down the road a bit. Bailey will stay at Cb as long as he can, though.

Roger (Colorado Springs) [via mobile]

Was it a mistake to not lock down Ryan Clady at the beginning of the year? Did his worth rise by showing how well he can protect Peyton as well as stay healthy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

It would have been cheaper, no doubt. But I don't see Denver letting him go.

Daniel (North Carolina)

Who do you see being the Charger's GM next season, AJ Smith - AG Spanos - or someone else(if so who)?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Unlike Pioli and Crennel in KC, I don't neccesarily think Turner and Smith are tied together. I could see a scenario where Smith is kept if Turner isn't

Wes (ohio)

With the season way over, why won't Crennel allow us to see how bad Stanzi must be?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

It might eb getting to that point. Why not?

Matt (San Diego)

At what point do the Chargers have to look at finding a replacement to Rivers? I personally don't think that he should be given up on, but there is a lot of ill sentiment in the San Diego fan base lately.

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I think he still gets a couple more years, at least.

Eric (Wichita)

Everyone always asks about possible new head coaches for the Chargers but what about the Chiefs? Who would you see as possible good head coaches for KC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

We're looking at that on the blog Friday.

Paul (K.C.)

If the chiefs can't trade down do they go with the best QB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

They may be forced to.

Felix (Texas)

Is Denver favorite to Win the Super Bowl?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Favorite? No, I don't think so.

Andy Miller (Denver)

Do you think Moreno can stick around if he continues to play well down the stretch? He is similar to McGahee in a lot of ways and is younger

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Sure, this is his last chance, though.

Zachary LaGoy (Oneida New York)

What are the chances of D.J Willams of staying in Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I think that will be determined after the season. We have to see how he finishes.

Rich (Philly)

Bucs D is awesome against the run, but they have to keep both safeties in coverage or Demaryius will go for 200 yards.....right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

Dnever will go for it, I think.

AJ (Oaktown)

Bill, how do you explain SD players always sticking up for Norv and playind especially hard when his job is on the line? Usually players tune out from coaches they don't think they can win under

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

They like the guy. It helepd him stay last year. Not sure it will matter this year.

Matt (Detroit)

Do you think the Broncos can make a run at the Super Bowl with a Peyton Manning or bust philosophy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

That's kind of the plan for the enxt few years.

AJ (Oaktown)

As bad as things are in Oakland, wouldn't it be a mistake to fire DA. It would send the message out that Oakland is still an unstable franchise and good coaches wouldn't want to go there.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

I think so. I know fans are inpatient and they hate the 3-8 record, which they should. But a program must be built. keep switching doesn't help a franchise.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

It's been fun. Enjoy Week 13.
