Fantasy Sports with Matthew Berry

Matthew Berry
  (2:03 PM)

Hi gang. Thanks for stopping by. Let's get to it

Zach (madison)

Do you play jennings?

Matthew Berry
  (2:06 PM)

Yeah, we discussed on the podcast today. In general, I am risk averse, especially during week 13. BUT, remember he actually practiced some last week and was listed as QUEST last week. He's an elite WR on an elite offense and Stephania feels very confident in his health. Unless I had options I felt were much stronger, I'd probably roll the dice, yeah

Austin (WI)

who should i play this week RG3 or Tom Brady. they both are projected 20pts.

Matthew Berry
  (2:07 PM)

For all questions like this... please refer to my rankings. http://espn.go.com/fantasy/football/story/_/page/12ranksWeek13QB/fantasy-football-week-13-quarterback-rankingsIf you click on my face, you'll see my specific ranks.

Chris Cooley (The Glory Days)

Man, TE depth is terrible this year. Are there any waiver-level TE that might be able to put up points in the upcoming playoff weeks?

Matthew Berry
  (2:08 PM)

Kinda like Dallas Clark, especially this week. 3 straight weeks of over 50 yards, DEN worst vs TE, Champ will be all over V JAx

Wife (in the Kitchen)

You are just like my husband, you never answer my questions. Flex Play: Brandon Lloyd or Greg Olsen?

Matthew Berry
  (2:09 PM)

Olsen safer for some points, Lloyd more upside. Depends what you need.

For my fellow chatters (Philadelphia)

Hi Matthew, thank you for all the great work this year - It has helped. I don't have a question - just a message for my fellow chatters who get annoyed by having the same people get answered in chats (everyone's) all week. Please don't blame the analysts who get thousands of questions, or the people who write them; perhaps they have a clever name or simply a good question. But please, multiple chat questioners - don't ask the EXACT same question of every expert. One should suffice. Thanks for letting me vent.

Casey (Texas)

Tough Flex decision in a 12 team standard: Who sits out of Spiller, Wayne, Marshall, Ridley?

Matthew Berry
  (2:10 PM)

Wow, good team. I'd sit Wayne. Least likely to score. All great tho

Zach (Pittsburgh)

12-Team League Flex Help: Broyles or Ivory?

Ian (Patuxent River, MD)

Now that Forte looks like he'll be playing, is it worth hanging onto Michael Bush over Shonn Greene?

Matthew Berry
  (2:12 PM)

Depends if you'd ever play Greene.... if you would, dump Bush. If not, still better to have the handcuff.

Alex (Chicago)

Am I crazy playing Jacquizz Rodgers over Matt Forte?

Matthew Berry
  (2:13 PM)

Crazy? No. I still have Forte higher but yeah, against Seattle off an injury, I don't have high hopes.

Brian Calsyn (St. Louis)

I know you have Moreno ranked higher than Rodgers. Is this solely based on carries? It seems ATL has scored twice as many rushing TDs and have the easier rush defense opponent. Interested in how you view it.

Matthew Berry
  (2:14 PM)

Yes, carries and probability to score. If they get close, Turner is likely to get the call. I like Rodgers a lot and can't stand Turner, as you know, but even last week, when he was brutal, they gave the GL carry to Turner.

Schwimmer (Gates, IA)

In your rankings are you assuming Forte does not play?

Matthew Berry
  (2:15 PM)

They were. They'll be updated late this afternoon after we get practice reports. I always tweet / Facebook out links when they are updated, so feel free to follow

Joe (Ohio State)

Matty Ice....should I play Sproles tonight in a PPR league? I have forte and M Bush..should I wait on them?

Matthew Berry
  (2:16 PM)

I would rather Sproles in a PPR

Dan (Detroit)

Who do I start at flex? Fred Jackson, Malcom Floyd, or Larry Fitzgerald?

Matthew Berry
  (2:16 PM)

Ugh. I might go with Floyd, actually. Just not sure how much work F Jax gets

Steve (Lowell, MA)

I'm in a dynasty league. Who's a better option for the rest of this season and next year: Jacquizz Rodgers or Knowshon Moreno?

Matthew Berry
  (2:17 PM)

Rodgers - no faith in Moreno's long term value

Mike (Boston)

Is Jonathan Stewart droppable? I have Ray Rice and SJax - but 14 team league, deep bench...I'd have to grab a Kuhn or someone. Should I just hold onto him?

Matthew Berry
  (2:17 PM)

He's droppable.

Eric (Austin, TX)

For the flex, Garcon or Law firm?

Matthew Berry
  (2:18 PM)

Law Firm safer, Garcon more upside but riskier. Depends on what kind of player you are.

Matt (NJ)

I am in dire need of another opinion on this...in a custom league where you get 1 pt for every 10 rushing attempts and 2 pts for every 5 receptions, do I go with Sproles or *gulp* Beanie Panini...Thanks

Matthew Berry
  (2:19 PM)

Sproles. I'd rather go down swinging with Sproles than trust Beanie Wells.

Mike (Sister Bay, WI.)

Does losing Fireman Ed have any implications on the Jets D going forward?

Matthew Berry
  (2:20 PM)

Ha. I think they'll be ok. I actually have the Jets as my #1 plug and play tyupe defense for those of you who stream D's..great matchup at home with AZ and Lindley

Jason (Chicago)

Is tonight's game a shoot out like everyone expects?

Matthew Berry
  (2:21 PM)

I think so, yes.

Ed (DC)

Lance Moore a bad option vs. ATL secondary?

Matthew Berry
  (2:21 PM)

I have him at 31. Don't think ATL's D is all that ... If you would normally start him, feel free to start him.

Andrew (Vancouver)

How do you view garcon going forward, provided he stays healthy?

Matthew Berry
  (2:23 PM)

High end WR3. Still gonna be some inconsistencies and I don't think he's 100% healthy, I think he's just learned to live with the pain.

Mike (Michigan)

TMR, who's the better handcuff to Gore now that Kendall Hunter is out or would you rather target someone else in case Gore goes downm

Matthew Berry
  (2:23 PM)

James would be the guy to me, but depends on who is out there in your leauge. If you've riddewn Gore this far, I'd probably handcuff him

Sean (NY)

Need 2 PPR: Torrey, Marcedes, Moreno, FJax

Matthew Berry
  (2:24 PM)

Smith and Moreno

Alex (MN)

I'm a keeper league rookie. I am now officially out of the playoffs. However, we are dong a keeper league for the first time. Do you have any suggestions for players to try to trade for to target as good deal keepers next year? We had an auction draft and keepers can be kept for their draft price or waiver auction price, whatever is higher.

Matthew Berry
  (2:27 PM)

Yeah, good keepers are guys that went cheap on draft day and have over performed... Spiller would be a guy like that. Rg3 and Luck. I bet Adrian Peterson went too cheap. Like if I had Foster and McCoy at full price and someone had AP at a cheaper price, I'd offer those 2 RB's for a stud keeper like AP

Dean (Iowa)

Whoa crazy crazy to start Murray And Leshoure over Lynch and CJ2K due to matchups ?

Matthew Berry
  (2:27 PM)

For me, yes. What's most likely to happen? Think that's getting too cute. It COULD work out, but I'd rather go down with the better players

Danny (Boston, MA)

would you rather Moreno or Reggie Bush ros? I have that trade proposed to me

Matthew Berry
  (2:28 PM)

I'd rather Moreno the rest of the season...

Trevis (Vegas)

Where does Cobb land in your 2013 WR ranks?

Matthew Berry
  (2:29 PM)

Top 12-15. I don't expect Jennings to be back.

Jon (FL)

How does BJ Upton project going from the AL East to the NL East, to a more neutral ballpark?

Matthew Berry
  (2:30 PM)

Think it helps - people don't realzie that Tampa's home stadium is actually a really tough hitter's park - but ultimately he'll be the guy he always is. Power and speed with an avg you hope doesn't kill you.

Ben (DC)

What is your favorite sport? Is that the same as your favorite fantasy sport?

Matthew Berry
  (2:31 PM)

Yes. NFL is favorite sport and fantasy sport. Tho I really love my Lakers (in general, frustrated with them at the moment)

Fred (Florida)

Mr. Berry, thanks for all the hard work. Obviously the chances Bryce Brown can repeat last week's performance is unlikely, but how much of a dropoff can we expect? I'm probably starting him over Sproles this week in accordance with your rankings, but I'm a bit uneasy about that.

Matthew Berry
  (2:33 PM)

Which I totally understand. And I always say - it's YOUR team. Use my ranks as a guideline but ultimately, you have to live with it, so start what YOU think is your best time. NO issue if you want to start Sproles. As for Brown in general, it's not a great matchup with DAL, but it's not terrible either. And he's all they got.

Remer (MN)

Please explain why you are higher on Sproles than Moreno???

Matthew Berry
  (2:35 PM)

Matchup mostly. Expect tonight to be a shoot-out, not sure how much running Moreno does. TB is #1 vs the run and #32 vs the pass. Think they run just enough to set up play action but ultimately, this is Peyton all day

Matt (Hoosier Country)

If Harvin plays, do you start him over Alexander or Garcon?

Matthew Berry
  (2:35 PM)

Garcon? Yes. Alexnader - borderline. Depends how he practices, do they say he's limited, etc etc.

Jesse (Canada)

Bryce Brown scared me on monday, i am a McCoy owner but do not have brown. if he can do similar to what he did on monday, do you see mccoy losing even more carries to brown?

Matthew Berry
  (2:36 PM)

Not really. When McCoy comes back, he's the guy.

Debbie (At Work...)

If DMC plays/starts, do you trust him? I am trying to get Moreno, Vereen or even B. Powell (desperate, I know - but the upcoming matches intrigue me) off waivers.

Matthew Berry
  (2:37 PM)

No on DMC. Remember, he was struggling before he got hurt. Plus, CLE a better D than they get credit for and Marcel has to eat into his touches somewhat. Would be nervous until we see him and get a sense for how touches get distributed.

Honey Badger (The NFL Draft)

Matt, is Dez a must-start now every week?

Matthew Berry
  (2:38 PM)

Oh yeah. Locked in, good playoff sked coming up and I love him vs PHI

Donnell (Baltimore)

big question for this game tonight...do I start Turner or Rodgers at RB and put the other at the flex? Or stay with G.Jennings at the Flex

Matthew Berry
  (2:39 PM)

I'd rather Jennings at the flex. I liek Rodgers as a RB more, Turner better chance to score. Depends how your league scores. Certainly not crazy to start Rodgers over Turner

Duane (Dallas)

TMR.. Can you explain to me how Hillman was good enough and trustworthy enough to be the backup to McGahee ( he was getting around 10-12 touches a game ) but he is not good enough to get that behind Moreno ( 3 touches ) John Fox pulled a Mike Shannahan. Is Hillman worth holding on to?

Matthew Berry
  (2:41 PM)

Comes down to pass protection. Obviously caught a bunch of people by surprise. I'd wait on Hillman one more week. Moreno has gotten lots of chances and blown every one up till now.

Frank Drebin (Police Station)

Is there any hope for Larry Fitzgerald? How depressing is it watching what has happened to him?

Matthew Berry
  (2:41 PM)

Not as long as Lindley is QB. Very depressing.

Toby (Santa Clara)

Do you think Fantasy Football has made people better fans (more involved, more knowledgeable) or worse fans (rooting for individuals, not teams; split loyalty)?

Matthew Berry
  (2:44 PM)

Both basically. I don't think there's a "right" or "better" way to be a fan. Enjoy the sport however you want. It has made some people more interested in the NFL and more knowlegeable about the sport and players but also it has skewed how some people view the NFL or the value of certain players.... Ultimately, it's something that helps you enjoy a great, great sport so it doesn't really matter.

Dylan (New Jersey)

In my flex, should I play Bryce Brown, Danny Amendola, or Reggie Bush?

Matthew Berry
  (2:44 PM)

I'd go Brown. Oddly, he's the guy I trust the most out of those three.

Jacoby (Atlanta Bound)

Stat line prediction for Sproles tonight in a PPR league?

Matthew Berry
  (2:45 PM)

15 points. 25 yards rushing, 6 for 75 in pass game

Jake (the 12210)

So I have to make this decision tonight, before we get a definitive call on mcfadden, and the rankings are inconclusive, sproles or reece?

Matthew Berry
  (2:45 PM)

Sproles

Grant (NYC)

Hey Matt, just wondering your take on when weather has to be considered in selecting your line-up?

Matthew Berry
  (2:47 PM)

Rarely. MAYBE if it's super super windy I'd consider downgrading a QB or a K, but in general, it doesn't toially matter. Some of the biggest fantasy days ever have come in horrible weather

Keeper Question (It's tough)

Assuming Kapernick is the starter for 2013 and Alex smith is gone, keep him for $10 or Cruz for $36? Other keeper is martin for $3 (steal right!?)

Matthew Berry
  (2:49 PM)

I hate keeper questions right now. Never make a keeper decision until you absolutely have to. To your point, what is Colin K's value now vs. two weeks ago? Can't say on Cruz without knowing size of league, how many spots you play, salary cap size (is $6 good in your league? No idea)...

Adam (Pittsburgh)

Houston D has been killing me last 2 weeks. You still ranked them high but I am thinking about starting Dallas or Buf over them in 2 leagues where I win and I'm in. Start my stud or go whoacrazycrazy?

Matthew Berry
  (2:51 PM)

No issue, especially since I ranked the DAL D 6 and HOU D 9th. Don't look at the overall ranks, look at my specific ranks.

Brennon (Spokane)

Were you a writer on Roseanne?

Matthew Berry
  (2:52 PM)

I was not. There is another comedy writer named Matt Berry who wrote on Roseanne. I've met him - very funny, nice guy. He also wrote onba, Desperate Housewives, and more. I always wrote TV with a partner, a guy named Eric Abrams. So if you see me with Eric's name, that's how you know I wrote it.

Patrick (Cheese Land)

What player do you trust the most for rest of season, Beanie Wells or Eric Decker?

Matthew Berry
  (2:53 PM)

Decker. Not close.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Deciding between Caepernick and Luck..see you like The Tatted One better..do you think he has the most upside,a s well as highest floor? Those rushing yards are so nice...

Matthew Berry
  (2:56 PM)

They are and I am a big fan, but no. Still rather Luck in a dynasty league. But the fact we are even having the discussion speaks volumes about Colin K

Matt (Hoosier Country)

I know you've loved him all season, which is why I have him in all three of my leagues, but if Harvin plays, he is a top _____ receiver this week.

Matthew Berry
  (2:56 PM)

25

RYan (Richmond)

I have 3 streaky options at RB...need 2 this week that are more likely put up huge games. Vereen, ivory, Fred Jackson

Matthew Berry
  (2:57 PM)

Ivory and F Jax are most likely to have a crazy big game

Oleg (Brooklyn)

Jennings or Shorts this week???

Matthew Berry
  (2:58 PM)

Ass ume you mean Rashad. I'd go Shorts

Mitch (Houston)

FFB wise, what's your thoughts on a team making waiver wire moves when they're out of the playoff run?

Matthew Berry
  (3:00 PM)

As long as there is something to play for (draft slot next year, avoid last place punishment, etc) then I am fine with it. Otherwise, no. Non playoff teams should be lokced out of waivers.

Pleading for your help (on my knees)

Gronk keep for 9th rd next year for my Ridley who I could keep for 10th rd next year in the playoffs RBs Lynch, F jax, S Jax, Law Firm, Vereen does it hurt me to much this year to make trade?

Matthew Berry
  (3:01 PM)

Would not trade Ridley if you want to win this year. Not crazy about your other RB's

Phil (Minneapolis)

Ever thought about doing Flex rankings? To answer all the cross-position start/sit questions you get?

Matthew Berry
  (3:03 PM)

I have, many times. But Flex rankings are something that ESPN has decided should be an Inider feature.

06010 fan (oakland )

I share your dislike with Turner and thus picked up Rodgers mid season. On the podcast this morning and in love/hate you dislike Ryan Matthews. In a ppr league, Rodgers over Matthews this week?

Matthew Berry
  (3:04 PM)

Sadly, still gotta go with Mathews. Just more guaranteed touches.

Dan (chicago)

Feel like Bess is ranked a bit low based on recent production and that Miami should be throwning a ton against a mediocre secondary.

Matthew Berry
  (3:05 PM)

I agree. I ranked Bess but the way we do rankings here my Bess ranking doesn't show up. I'll try and raise him more in the update so that he at least shows up.

Peter (Marin County, CA)

Is Michael Vick droppable?

Matthew Berry
  (3:05 PM)

Yes.

Matthew Berry
  (3:07 PM)

Ok, gang. Gotta run. Thanks for stopping by. I'll try to answer more questions on Twitter and Facebook through out weekend. And be sure to tune into Fantasy Football Now on ESPN2 at 11am ET on Sunday morning. Thanks, Matthew
