Welcome, friends. Hopefully you are fantasy playoff bound! Tough outings this week for some folks...hopefully we can offer some insight early...
miles austin looked pretty good last week. would you feel confident with him back in your lineup next week vs. CIN?
Bob: He did. I'm not ready to say he's issue free when it comes to health but I would feel more comfortable starting him this week even than last week.
Stephania any word on C.Shorts heading into week 14? Thanks
You know how the head injury thing goes. Each player has to go through the necessary steps throughout the week in order to be cleared to play. So, despite the fact he seems to be feeling well it's too soon to know.
Is Mojo even stretching yet? light jog?
TJ: Lots of MJD questions but this one made me laugh. Stretching. hahaha... Yes, I'm sure he's stretching. But we haven't been given much of any other type of update and really, until he returns to practice, there's nothing to go on. Just like Murray last week. Once he got to practice and we saw he could go back to back days, we began to think he could play. Still didn't know how he'd handle it (turns out pretty well) but all we know at this point is MJD not likely this week. Still think it could be next week or week after. It would all depend for me how much room is on my bench.
Danny Amendola and Jordy Nelson? Updates and are either likely to play this week?
Brett: No update on Amendola yet. Typical for a guy who doesn't play. Team generally says little until Weds practice. As far as Nelson, expect him out this week. McCarthy said they didn't think it was serious but also said he didn't know how many weeks he'd miss (maybe a slip, but still). They're thinking long term, as in post-season, so they won't rush him, especially given this is an aggravation of an injury.
Any news on Gronk? Heard some say he could be back as early as this coming Monday.
Bryan: I think there was speculation he'd try to get back for that but that's early from a fracture healing timetable, even post-surgery. I didn't expect him back before Week 15. Still think that's the soonest. And naturally, they're not saying.
Garcon looks good to go. Do you know if he's playing through any pain or do you think his foot issue is officially behind him?
Boom: Here's what I think. I agree that he looks great. It's very impressive. We really had no idea what to expect because there was no way to tell until he actually played just how his foot would tolerate it. Based on last night, seems to be tolerating it just fine. So far.In other words, my suspicion is that the tissue is not really fully healed. THe pain and inflammation subsided and the athletic training staff has done a great job with supporting his foot, shoe inserts, etc. BUT...there is always the chance lurking that a cleat stuck in the ground, a hard pivot, foot getting caught under others, etc could lead to a setback. So, yes, he's doing great. And I would use him in my fantasy lineup. But I would also not be shocked if it crops up again.
Any news on Harvin? Also, would you expect Greg Jennings to have a better outing this week after getting his legs back underneath him this past Sunday?
Nathan: NOthing new on Harvin. Frazier even says he doesn't know until he sees what he can do in practice this week. I would not count on him. As for Jennings, yes, I think this could be a big week. He said he felt great coming out of the game. Rodgers talked about having him back and being a big play guy. With Nelson likely out, I like the opportunities for Jennings this week.
Any chance SHADY is shut down for the season?
Danny: THere's always a chance. But I don't expect that to happen unless he has a specific setback.
Thoughts on Roethlisberger?
Becca: My thoughts are that we are likely to see him this weekend. As long as he shows he can make the necessary throws in practice (and Tomlin already said he threw Monday "successfully") then he will be the QB on Sunday.
Afternoon Stephania! any info on Keller? thx
Fitzy: Well, we heard from Rex Ryan that it was a traditional ankle sprain, not a high ankle sprain as originally reported. Other than that, nothing as far as his status for this week, probably need to see if he can get back into practice late in the week.
How severe is the rib injury to Tebow? Chances he plays this week?
Charles: Rib injury or not, it's McElroy.
Any news on how G. Jennings felt after the game? Should I throw him in as my flex over R. Mathews this week?
Joe: He said he felt "great" - during and after the game. I would start him over Mathews.
Speaking of Murray, run him out there with confidence? You'd start him over say Mikkel Leshoure?
Matt: I think you do, also knowing that there's no absolute guarantee that the foot is a non-issue. Really, after an injury like his, after the offseason is when I'll be confident. That said, I get a lot out of the player's performance. He surprised me a bit with how strong he looked given the very limited work he had done prior. And they have a turf field. Harder surface. Seemed to be fine so I'd start him.
Any idea how much of a workload DMC can expect on Thursday? Sounds like he'll play, and I also just heard that Reece is dealing with injuries of his own. Sounds like it could be an opportunity for him to get a good chunk of the touches.
Zach: No one in Oakland wants to commit to the amount of work, which I get, given that McFadden and Goodson both expected back. But after a month out no one knows just how they'll look. Yes, Reece dealing with hamstring and quad ailments so on a short week it may force them to back off of him to some degree. The big problem here is there's an opportunity to divide a workload between multiple guys. Add in a decent Denver D and the fact DMC wasn't exactly lighting it up in the weeks right before the injury (although Oakland has their right tackle back which their OC believes will help DMC's productivity). Think it's risky, could go either way.
Starphania. In a chat this morning AJ Mass used the word "irregardless" then insisted that it is a word when a reader called him on it. Thoughts?
Mike: Tell AJ we need to chat.
Jennings over Matthews is a no brainer. How about Jennings over Colston? I have a gut feeling this is a game the Saints really focus on getting Graham back involved.
Jared: I love how situations are "no-brainers." The way things go in this league? Not sure I agree. Barring a handful of players there's very little in the way of consistency. I wouldn't sit Colston if I had him. But I think Jennings could have the bigger fantasy day.
When a star player is out multiple weeks, do you take more of a wait-and-see approach or do you start them in place of flex-type guys as soon as they're back?
Leo: Good q but depends on the injury. I would have started Jennings- and only gotten a few points - but at least I was confident in his health (and he actually was targeted more than anyone else on the team, just didn't get them all). Murray I would not have started - other than maybe at flex - because his foot recovery was less definitive and he only had 3 limited practices. Would have missed out on some points but remember it could have gone the other way. So I'd live with it. All depends on the injury...
Do you see Ben Tate getiing more and more carries as he gains his strength back and Foster gets more rest time?
Cartman: Right now, I think Forsett has earned the spot ahead of Tate. We may get surprised especially Wk 16-17 as Texas can afford to mix things up more but I wouldn't feel comfortable starting him now.
Did Hernandez look close to 100% to you?
Chris: CLose enough. It's impossible to tell all the nuances from a distance. I saw enough to feel comfortable starting him going forward.
Hey Stephania: I know you just said you'd feel fine starting Garcon and Jennings. Last week I believe you said on the podcast you had benched Sproles because you just had a bad feeling (or something like that, don't recall the exact words). I did start him, though I also wasn't feeling that great about it, and am still uncertain this week. In a PPR, would you start both WRs over Sproles, or if not, who sits?
Mike: That had to do with him vs Atlanta. Not a good history facing them. His hand should be fine and he's had no issues since returning to play. I like Sproles in PPR and probably (although I'm not sure and I'm allowed to change my mind before Sunday)would start him over Garcon (matchups in mind).
ir·re·gard·less adverb \?ir-i-'gard-l?s\Definition of IRREGARDLESS nonstandard : regardless Usage Discussion of IRREGARDLESSIrregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that ?there is no such word.? There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.
Haven't heard much in terms of injury news with Britt - where would you say he is health-wise?
DF: Perhaps it's because Tennessee has just been such a non-factor. I think Britt fits the category of how many of these guys look in their first year back. Not quite up to par and working on getting back to where they were before.
Hey Stephania,I play in a very deep league. Thoughts on Edelman?
John: Not sounding good. Sounds like his season could be done.
What's the word on Donald Brown? I have a bye this week, but I'm thinking about claiming Ballard (I have a decent amount of FAAB left).
Dexter: I would claim Ballard. Nothing specific yet but may have sprained his ankle. Ballard may be the better play anyway.
Jared Cook intrigued me this week with 12 targets, but the 4 receptions were less than inspiring. Do you think he sees a drop in targets this week? Need someone to fill a stat sheet more than Vernon Davis has.
Dan: A "drop" in targets? I see what you did there. The problem with Davis is the inconsistency and I just don't know where they're going with game plan. Is Brandon Myers available in your league?
Is Nicks getting healthier or will he be back to form next season?
Dave: Yes. I really think he is. ALthough he took a punch to the nose and was spitting up blood last night (right back in the game though). But yet, there are flashes and then there are times he looks off. I still think he peaks as the season ends but from an overall season perspective I'm betting a lot of folks won't trust him next year and he'll come out of the gate much stronger, have a better year.
I'm concerned about Sidney Rice. Isn't this his second concussion? What's the outlook for him?
Tom: He had two last season. Right now they haven't (as far as I've seen)officially diagnosed him with one but he is going through all of the formal concussion protocols. They have as their team orthopedist someone who has been very heavily involved in concussion legislation so I have no doubt they will be very appropriate with him.
Stevie Johnson swears he will play, but I only trust Stephania. What about him?
Sneaky Pete: Wow. High praise. But not sure you can trust me on Tuesday on this one. Hamstring injury will mean he probably won't practice early in the week and we won't really be able to make a better projection until Thurs or even Friday.
So that's a no on Cook over Davis I take it. Myers isn't available - Finley and Tamme are.
Strange as this is going to sound...Finley is interesting to me. I like Jennings the most with Nelson likely out but FInley was the second targeted guy and he has been coming on stronger the last few weeks. Seems like he and Rodgers are working things out. Might be nice option Sunday night against the Lions.
And now hearing Urlacher may be done for the season because of his hamstring...bummer.
OK folks - time for me to go. Thanks very much for joining in. See you Friday!
