OK, big week in recruiting for Texas. Lots of coaching moves being made around the country. Tons of interesting stuff out there. Lets get to it
How do you think that Texas will do in their Bowl Game?
Um they will miss 11 tackles give up way more yardage than they should, have two turnovers and win.
is a big slide back in recruiting the next hurdle for UT?
Texas is not going to slide that much but the other schools are starting to get some of the bigger kids. The things Texas has to really watch is poaching from other states like Bama and USC.
any incoming freshman going to see significant playing time next year?.also do you see anyone else leaving the defense besides vacarro and okafor
No I think Texas is pretty set and there will be a lot of RS guys from this class. As for defense, no one else is leaving besides the seniors.
Is mack brown going to fire both offensive and defensive coordinators? And when brown does this again how much longer does brown have to get the Longhorns back to the top of the big 12 and the championship game before Texas fires him?
Harsin is safe imo. Diaz is another mater. I think the best solution would be for him to find a job elsewhere and Texas could be waiting on that to happen before they have to make a move.
Hey Carter, trying to get in a question early as the time difference here keeps me from being able to go during chat time. I was wondering your opinion on a theory of mine that Texas will not win another BIg12 title as long as Mack is there even if he does get things back on track. Here are my three reasons.1. Recruiting looks to continue its steady decline with more Texas athletes choosing other top school over UT.2. The conference is beigning to become much more than just the big 2 and little 10 that it was in the 90's and early 00's. 3. THis is the big one. With the new round robin schedule UT has to face OU and Kstate every year. Given Mack's horrible record against these two teams the chance of Texas going undefeated in conference play are minimal. Thoughts?
Been to Anchorage this time of year for the basketball tourney. It's damn cold but on a sunny day was nice. For the five hours the sun was out.As for the B12 it is going to be down next year so Texas has a shot. Recruiting is always going to be ok. They just need to develop the players.
How's it going Carter? Do you have any news on Texas' 2013 recruiting for basketball? Do you see us getting anybody that can take our program to the next level?
Well scholarships are an issue. Texas only has two and they have a very young team so next year is not critical. The two biggest guys they want but will have a hard time getting are Frazier and Randle.
When do you think if ever, that Texas will show Mac the door?
When he asks them to
Just read that Eldridge Massington has decommitted from USC. I'm not sure why we passed on him the first time but we really need another receiver in this class and Rhodes is not happening. Any chance Texas goes after him?
I think they make a pass at him or at least see if there is some mutual interest. This is not going to be a huge class and the focus now is on Robinson and JC QB.
Something has to give. When apathy overcomes anger and frustration, wealthy alumns stop giving. A program with as much riches in $ and human capital must achieve more. What is going to happen in the off season?
Not too much. I think if the new JC QB is offered then you will see some transfers at that position. Harsin is going to stay unless he gets another job offer. Defense will see some changes. I think there might be one or two coaches who leave. Recruiting is not going to be as blockbuster as it has been. But if you look at schedule next year and the strength of the conference, Texas has a chance to win 10 games on talent alone.
Who should be healthy and ready to go for the bowl game?Ash, Goodwin, Okafor...?
Yep everyone will be good to go. Goodwin and Oak played against KSU. Ash could've played.
Maybe being weak at safety next year won't be the end of the world. The B12 is losing a lot of its star qb's, so perhaps most of those teams will want to run it more to settle in their new QBs. With the return of Hicks, Jeffcoat, and more confidence in those LBs, I think our defense will be in good shape heading into 2013.
Need better production out of the front four. Shiro needs to come on and the D tackles have to do a better job. Like Jinkens though.
How far do you see this team going if we "dont" get Kabongo back?? Hypothetically speaking..
Even with Kabongo this is not an NCAA tournament team. No team that has ever lost to Chaminade in the Maui tourney has made it to the NCAAs.
Why was Harsin on the sidelines against K-State? What does it mean?
He needed to be down there to keep Case under control. Doesn't mean too much but he did happen to cal his best game at least for a half.
So Barnes when big on recruiting and our roster is now set up with alot of 6'7 and up guys. Do you think this may help push us passed that first round? Can this team inexperience still produce at high level against high competition? Tonight we find out.
we have already found out. They lost to Chaminade.
So we lost Hicks in recruiting but ultimately thats not a big loss with the backs we have. Will Texas produce a 1000yrd rusher next year?
Not unless the offensive line gets better. It's terrible against good teams.
We do you think has the highest upside for the Texas basketball team?
I like Ridley in three years. Also like papa. Tough guy has a good all around game.
Why does it seem like Ash makes deep throws into coverage only to have them intercepted and then he just shuts down? Also, do you see any of the underclassmen or new QB's taking over?
Well they are going after a JC QB right now and might offer him. Ash has footwork issues on the deep throws. I don't think he shuts it down. He competes but he doesn't have all the tools just yet.
Do you think Shiro will be opposite of Jeffcoat next year or do we continue to utilize Reed because of experience?
All four of thsoe ends are going to play with Wilson being the starter on one side and Jeffcoat on the other
How many redshirts do you think will compete in the two deep next year? offense and defesne.
Riser will be in there and maybe one or two of the safeties. But not a ton because not a ton of guys were RS'ed
how seriously are we looking at bringing in the JC QB for next year, and what does that mean as far as players transferring from Texas ?
It would mean Texas would have six QBs on the roster with five of them being juniors or less. So at least two would leave, imo. Maybe even three. And they are pretty serious.
How would you rate the current state of Longhorn football? Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future a program led by Mack Brown?
Current state of UT football is average and that is not good enough for UT football.I think Mack can get it done one more time.
Do you think the SEC might be exposed a bit come bowl season? There's not a lot of overlap in scheduling, but a very mediocre Texas team beat Ole Miss pretty bad at The Grove. This same Ole Miss team should have beat TAMU and gave LSU fits.
Maybe but the top of the SEC will win and that is what matters.
do we have trouble recruiting OL as of late? seems like that has been a weakness past couple of years, and do you see Jake Raulerson making an impact next season or redshirt?
No trouble recruiting it but big trouble developing that talent.
Do you really think Texas will wait for Mack Brown to ask him them to leave if he has another mediocre season, with losses to OU, and a TCU?
Oh if he does not win 10 next year he will leave
Do you see any running backs transferring (Daje in particular) even though Hicks decommitted?
Daje is interesting because he needs to get more touches. But with DJ leaving and Bergeron becoming an RZ back I think the touches will increase for Daje.
Do you think the UT defence will have a new coordinator next year?
Why can't Harsin get Daje the ball some more, and not just on sweeps. He seems to always make the first guy miss. I'm sure Greg Davis left some notes lying around about bubble screens.
Harsin has a hard time realizing how to utilize all the speed he has. That is the most frustrating thing about watching his offense and then watching another offense like WVU that has equal speed.
What are the chances the new QB coming in takes the the team by the horns while Ash and McCoy are on the sidelines??
I'd say there is a 70 percent chance Ash is the starter next season
We've been hearing the same issues about Texas for the past 3-4 years. Why hasn't this issue been resolved with all the "great" recruiting classes that have been brought in?
Because the coaching has been subpar. There is no way to dance around that fact.
Has any Texas coach gone from the Penthouse, to the outhouse, as quickly as I have?
In my opinion, Malcolm Brown needs to be the goal line back. When healthy, he runs with the power of an Adrian Peterson and has the ability to cut without losing speed. Bergeron has power, but he can't cut against the quicker defenses. Thoughts?
Brown needs to be a guy that touches the ball 15 times a game. He and Gray should handle the carries that are not right near the goal line.
Will Texas beat OU next yr?
Is Stoops still at OU?
Who is the Texas defensive coordinator next year?
Lots of names out there. Mack keeps a list and that may have been expanded by one when Chizik was fired.
True or False, Rick Barnes and Mack Brown will not be coaching at Texas in 2014?
Barnes yesMack yes.
What will it take to prevent another blowout loss to OU next season?
OK really what it will take is for the line not to be so scared and intimidated and actually block someone. Texas is awful against D lines with speed.
You say Manny will not be back, any thoughts or ideas on who you think should get a look?
I like Randy Shannon at TCU. His linebackers looked pretty good against UT the other night
Who is better and gives us a better chance in the bowl game.....Ash or McCoy?
Which remaining recruit(s) are must gets for the Longhorns?
Forget the remaining must gets, Texas needs to hold onto Robinson and the ones they have.
Would they pursue Chizik as DC if he does not find a head coaching job somewhere? Why or why not?
I think so. He is not going to get another HC job after being fired and he needs to go somewhere that he can repair his rep. The guy that takes over the Texas defense is going to have a ton of talent to work with.
Chances that next year we could see UT and T A&M in the BCS Championship game and if so would it set TV records?
Zero and it would not set BCS records because they need two teams with national cachet not just one
Who did Texas pursue the year Manziel came out? Johnny Football listed Texas as his top school at the end of 2009, but they chose not go after him at QB. Mack also overruled Applewhite in pursuing Ash over OSU's Walsh. Is he losing his ability to evaluate QBs?
Texas had the choice between Walsh, Ash and Manziel. Those chose Ash.
What will it take for the Board of Regents to fire Dodds and Plonsky? What does Dodds have on the BoR ensuring him such job safety without anyone to answer to?
Dodds has made the athletic department tons of cash. This is a business and he is very good at making that business very profitable.
who are some possible replacements if diaz does end up getting fired?
Already answered check the ealrier posts. I like Randy Shannon
Considering Malcolm Brown will be playing in front of his hometown Dec 29. Will he have his best game of the season?
Maybe if he gets the ball.
What is the single change that UT can make right now to cause the greatest positive impact next season?
Showing some heart and toughness
Are the Longhorns really more than a 8-9 win team at best with Ash or McCoy at QB? If 10 wins is your measuring stick, then I doubt Mack is back after next season.
I say 10 wins because the schedule is very favorable and the B12 is losing a lot of guys this year.
(In reference to Bret (Houston) question) heart in toughness where, the players or coaches??
A lot of noise lately on Texas pursuing Juco players. Who all do you think gets an offer?
I'm not so sure they offer the JC qb that is going to be a really sticky situation and it might upset the high school coaches in Texas. That is something Mack does not want to do.
"Zero and it would not set BCS records because they need two teams with national cachet not just one" If you're talking about Texas then are you joking? They're more of a known brand than A&M, but no one other than Texas fans wants to watch them lately. A game between A
I was not talking about Texas.
Where do you buy heart and toughness?
Who really calls the plays, Mack, the OC's, or both?
Harsin with Mack looking over his shoudler
Is McCoy even a draft prospect ?
No. Neither is Ash
Do you see Jalen Overstreet having any shot next year, the best thing for a bad offensive line is a QB who can scramble. Greg Davis made a living with bubble screens and slants, I'm sure they can teach him to throw that.
He has a great arm too. Really can sling the ball. But if a JC guys is brought in, Jalen may think twice about his future at Texas. All of the young QBs will think twice.
Jalen has the best release of the QBs, imo. Just really can get rid of it quickly.
do you think that tyrone swoops can be developed into an elite QB. I am really excited about the athleticism
It is going to be a long process. He needs serious work on his mechanics and pocket presence.
Texas co-OC Bryan Harsin met with JUCO QB Tanner McEvoy on Monday. What are your thoughts on this especially since we have the Dual threat recuit coming in..
Have answered that but I think Texas needs to tread lightly because if they offer him they are going to have to deal with backlash from current players and high school coaches.
OK, guys it looks like we have run out of questions for this week. Be sure to come by the site. And for those who do not subscribe we are running a 50 percent off promotion this month http://es.pn/V8DNdB
