Hey gang,Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is getting all that holiday shopping done early. And here's my list of the top 12 organizations in NASCAR it might surprise you: http://tinyurl.com/bfr7qw7
What Rookie do you think will get some wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2013?
Wouldn't be at all surprsieed to see Stenhouse win a race or two in the 17.
What do you think of Brad Keselowski? Personally, i think he's too cocky and has a awful driver. He really made me angry when he bashed Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer. Keselowski just needs to shut up cause he'll never be as good as Gordon.
I couldn't disagree more. An awful driver? The man just won the title. Awful drivers don't win championships. And Brad's candor is refreshing and needed in NASCAR.
Hi Terry, thanks for the chat. I have an off the wall idea that I think will get auto racing into the Olympics where it belongs: Go Karts. You think fans wouldn't pay to see that? It seems safe enough, fun for the drivers, and a way to put racing inside the big tent. Am I crazy?
I've been in favor of some type of racing in the Olympics, but it won't be go-karts.
I have 2 questions: 1) Do you think Carl Edwards can make the Chase next year? 2) Do you think Stenhouse can get a win next year?
Yes and yes.
What do you think of the New 2013 Sprint Cup Series Cars?
A gigantic step in the right direction. They actually look much more like real productions cars. And the teams will have more leeway about making chances to the bodies.
how many new team will there be at daytona in feb.?
One was announced today _ Swan Racing, which bought out Inception Racing that used driver David Stremme. And new owner said one thing that impressed me: "The days of starting and parking are over." Amen to that!
Chances a "big" name misses a race this year with the new qualifying format in NASCAR?
Almost zero. The system is different, but the top teams still are protected with provisionals.
Do you think Penske disrespected NASCAR by changing the focus to Indy 500 at the banquet?
Of course not. I can tell you everyone in NASCAR has the utmost respect for Roger Penske.
Will Harvick last the whole 2013 season at RCR
Great question. I'm not so sure. It's going to be a volatile siutation to say the least. If the team makes the Chase, he'll be there all year. If not, see ya.
Will Smoke do the double? Will Danica?
My guess is a no for Danica. She wants to concentrate fully on her first Cup season. Stewart is a maybe if it all gets worked out. Indy is considering moving the start time to a hour earlier to help convince Tony, and maybe others, to do it.
Danica's run some 90 plus NASCAR races over 3 years. If she's not ready for cup now will she ever be?
First, she hasn't run 90 NASCAR races. She's run 68 _ 58 in NW and 10 in Cup. But only one full season in NW and she finished 10th overall. I think she will struggle next year in Cup, but she won't be the worst driver out there.
Even if Stewart could fit into an Indy car doesn't he know about as much about modern Indy car racing as Morgan Sheppard? Isn't that just a Penske publicty stunt? Who really believes Stewart could be competitive in a 1 off Indy run?
I do. Tony knows a great deal about Indy cars even though he hasn't raced this DW12 chassis. If he has Penske equipment, I have no doubt he could race competitively given enough practice time.
Is F1 making a mistake by scheduling the US Grand Prix on the same day as NASCAR finale again?
They have a bigger problem if the sked for 2013 stays the same. They are racing on the same weekend as a Texas football home game. That will make for a hotel and traffic nightmare. But I will say that the inaugural event was a huge success. Over 100,000 in attendance and no major traffic problems. The facility looks magnificent.
Do you expect NASCAR to penalize Steven Wallace for throwing a hammer @KBMteam pit box during the Snowball Derby Sunday?
Not a NASCAR event.
Why is Harvick not confirming SHR move? Will 2013 be Juniors year? Any word of Stewart doing the double? Who is your favorite for the NW champion next season?
1. Why would he confirm something that over a year away? Jyst would had more problems in 2013. 2. Junior will run well, maybe the best he ever has at Hendrick. 3. No word on Tony, but I'd say it's 50/50. 4. I'll go with Vickers.
Hi Terry. Who do you think will be the top driver at JGR in 2013?
Kenseth, who I may pick as the 2013 champ.
Why mess with the double? Why couldn't Stewart do Indy and put Regan Smith in the #14 for the 2 Charlotte races like when Dale took a few races off?
Because you can't give up thos driver points when you are trying to make the Chase.
Great answer! How many wins do you think he will get?
To of three, but it's his consistency that makes him good.
Was that the dumbest question ever about Stewart lol
Pobably something aboyut his pet monkey he had a few years ago.
how does the new cars look on the race tracks?are there going be anymore changes to the new car before the speed weeks start?
Maybe a few tweaks, but nothing major. The hope is the car will race better and enable more side-by-side action, especially on the 1.5-mile ovals.
Where any of the drivers spotted partaking in festivities at any of the "Gentlemens Clubs" in Vegas?
One would have to be there to know, wouldn't you Steve? And who cares? Their adults. It's their business.
Do you think NASCAR realizes it might attract younger fans if it had a better video game than the crap that have been putting out
You need to ask someone about 25 years younger than me to answer that question. My last video games were Pong and Super Mario.
Is JGR offering Rowdy a lifetime contract like HMS gave to Jimmie and Jeff?
No, and in reality, there's no such thing.
What about the new car makes them think it will race better?
The cars will have less downforce and hopefully less aero push.
Are you still getting pounded in the Pacific Northwest with storms? We have experienced some of the residual storms down here in Southern Cal.
Not like the southern part of the West Coast. Just our usual drizzle with a few high winds.
Any darkhorse championship or chase contenders for 2013?
Not really. Maybe Stenhouse. Maybe Logano.
TB - imho BK's speech was awesome, esp since he delivered it notes / teleprompter free. Curious what your take is on the "unifying"comment and how others may have perceived his leadership role? I don't agree with BK on everything but respect his individualism
Laura, I don't think I've ever heard a better one. As I tweeted that night, Brad just flat gets it. He's going to be a leader in this sport. Overall, I thought most of the speeches were better _ much less reading and way shorter. But poor Kasey kahne. A great guy, but that boy just can't talk in front of a crowd.
People talk about the best driver not to win a title say Mark Martin. Who would be your pick as best driver not to win a race.
Dave Blaney, but his son soon will make up for lost time.
How many more years does Jeff Gordan have in him? Should we expect him to ever return to his dominant old ways?
No, but one more championship isn't out of the question before he hangs it up.
Terry, you are totally immersed in this thing we love called NASCAR. What does this entertainment venue need to change to increase the fan base and grow attendance and audience share back to the level of a few years ago? Thanks.
Fewer races and shorter races would help increase demand and encourage more young folks to watch. But NASCAR is doing some good things, like this new car. And having an under-30 champ in Brad, along with some up-and-comers that will do big things soon _ The Dillon brothers, James Buescher, and others _ also will help.
Yes Casey was not comfortable talking at the Awards, but what about Bowyer? He came across as a complete dolt. I hope he was drunk, otherwise wow, just wow!
I disagree. Clint was hilarious. That's what makes it fun, talking off the cuff instead of the usual robotic reading from the prompter.
So do you think Bowyer will ever get over what Gordon did to him at Phoenix or do you think it might brew into a fued that lasts the rest of their careers? How soon will Bowyer wreck Gordon in 2013 as payback?
Payback is overblown. Bowyer will get over it and he has bigger things to focus on, like winning the 2013 title.
Mr. Finch said #2 dumped Kurt at Dega and evenyone knows how he dirty drove Kyle at the Glen and what he has done to Edwards, Denny, Stewart, Stenhouse, Joey etc. Will #2 find the going much tougher in '13?
It's tougher for any defendin champ, but not from the things you say. Brad is a respected competitor. He raced hard at the Glen, as he should have. And Kyle would have done the same thing. And Edwards? You mean the guy that deliberatelty wrecked Brad at Atlanta and caused Brad's car to fly into the fence?
I know Penske got a boat load of money from Ford, but do you think he regrets moving from Dodge? Besides Brad K would have looked great in the new Dodge
No he doesn't. Money talks and he had to take what Ford was offering when Dodge couldn't match it.
With so many cup drivers scheduled for '13 NW-Sadler, Vickers, Smith, Hornish-are you gonna lay off Rowdy when he runs the JGR #18 in the Nationwide series?
Nope. The men you mention are running full time in NW only. KB and full-time Cup guys should stay in Cup.
Would a driver change help get EGR out of their funk? You could have put them at the bottom of your list and it would not have surprised me.
I don't think the drivers are the problem. But it's hard to say how much JPM has progressed since the equipment is so bad.
What do u expect Joey to do next year
Not a lot. Maybe a win and a top 15 showing in the standings. I don't know is that team is ready to do much better than that. If he makes the Chase the season would be a huge success.
I see that Austin Dillon is entered in the Daytona 500 and wonder if RCR is rushing him up to cup too soon? Shouldn't RCR keep him in Nationwide or trucks for more experience?
He's staying in NW this year, but probably moving full-time to Cup in 2014 when Harvick leaves. I don't think that's rushing it.
With Clint indicating that he's not forgotten or forgiven Gordon; what, when and where do you think Clint will take his revenge?
You guys get way too caught up in this revenge stuff. He had a chancve to take our Gordon and Homestead and didn't. Bowyer's concern is trying to win the 2013 title, which is a possibility.
Is there a early favorite to be the first driver to lose his ride next season
Harvick is he and Richard can't get along is this odd lame-duck season.
Odd question... what is the strangest animal you have ever seen run across a race track? I remember Matt Kenseth took a picture of a turkey running on the track. I forgot what track that was...
I've seen some snakes slither across a few tracks.
Terry,Being this the off season. Do you know of how often NASCAR chats will be held? Really enjoy them
I will try to keep doing one every week I can, but not on Tuesday, Christmas Day or New Year's day. Too much football to watch while I stuff my pie hole.
What do you think was the biggest racing stories for off the track news this year?
Surprisingly, the story that got the most internet hits was the one about Smoke goosing DeLana Harvick. It wasn't anything new, but it was on video and went viral.
Is it true that Ed Hinton worked for the Dallas Cowboys back in the day?
Not that I know of, but Jerry should hire him now. Easy Ed would right that ship in a hurry!
ESPN rocks, Thanks for the great coverage all season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for being on the chats Steve. I appreciate it.
How big a deal is the momemtum Kyle's #18 team earned in the Chase going into 2013?
I defintely thinks it helps. It tells everyone on the team that they are capable of consistently running up front. And I think Kenseth will have a positive impact on Kyle, showing how to do things the right way without causing a lot of commotion.
I'm having a hard time with the Harvick and RCR situation. On the one hand, RCR's future are the Dillon bros, on the other hand, KHI was only sold a year ago to RCR. And from a biz perspective, I'm speculating that Richard thought Harvick was part of the package, even if his contract is up at end of 2013. Yes, I'm thinking about it too much. Oh, and PacMan is the last video for me, unless you consider AngryBirds Version 1 on Iphone a video game ;)
Richard definitely got caught by surprise on this one and it mad him angry. And I play paper football on my I-5 phone. But I wish I still had my old electric football game. At Thanksgiving, I had to look it up on my laptop to show my young adult kids what that was.
I'm out folks. Christmas shopping to do and get done before the stores get crazy. This was an awesome off-season chat. Let's keep it up every week. Peace.
