Chat with Sean Adams

Sean Adams
  (12:00 PM)

Let's get started.

Paul (Austin)

Who's starting at QB for the Horns in the Alamo Bowl?

Sean Adams
  (12:04 PM)

Call me crazy but I think David Ash starts at QB for the Longhorns. I still think he gives Texas the best chance to win and this game is going to be tough.

Chris (Chicago)

Any chance Mack forces Diaz out and brings Chizik back as DC? And Gene succeeds Mack as HC in 2014 or 2015?

Sean Adams
  (12:10 PM)

There's a chance. But I guess there is a chance that I could et the job too. I don't see Chizik as a viable candidate to be the next head coach at Texas. If thy have language in his contract with Auburn that allows him to reduce any salary that he receives from another job from his payout and Auburn still pays he rest, then I could see Chizik getting another job. Other than that, it would be silly for Chizik to take another job. I think there might be one or two changes to the staff after he season but keep going back and forth on what they might be.

Bill (NYC)

Your Heisman ballot, please. Mine:1)Teddy Bridgewater; 2)Jarvis Jones; 3)Tavon Austin

Sean Adams
  (12:13 PM)

1) Johnny Manziel 2) Tavon Austin 3) Marqise Lee

Susan (Mexia, TX)

If Texas does not win the Alamo Bowl, is Mack Brown gone?

Sean Adams
  (12:16 PM)

No I don't think he is gone unless he decides to go. To be honest it would be silly for him to step down after the bowl game on December 29 and sillier for Texas to go in another direction. Mack Brown is going to be at Texas in 2013.

Stephen (Seattle, WA)

We lost 4 games this year. Had a horrible rush defense. And play tentative offense..thats the obvious. But we also progressed in other areas that i feel were more important, especially offense. I feel this year we were still finding out who we have and what we have to offer. The Juniors and Sophs next yr should really help put this team back to 10 Wins. Your thoughts?

Sean Adams
  (12:21 PM)

I agree with you 100% on the offense. The WR, OL and RB's played better in 2013. They even got a few add-ins from the TE's. I think the offense will be ready to go. I still believe the little patch of grass between the ears is the biggest problem at Texas. Reading the boy language, he play during the game, reading twitter and the like will tell you that attitude and passion are lacking.

James (San Antonio)

Am I the only one terrified that the staff is likely to offer a JUCO QB? When that happends, Brewer and Overstreet are tranferring and we're placing all hope at QB of the future on Swoopes. I'm of the opinon that Overstreet is the QB we need to ride (assuming Ash continues his rollercoaster improvement/regression). Thoughts?

Sean Adams
  (12:27 PM)

I want to see what Overstreet has as well. The fact that Texas is talking to JUCO QB's says for sure that Mack Brown needs to win in 2013 and that they are in the margin on their current feelings about QB roster at Texas. Swoopes is a wonderful talent but he needs couple of YEARS before he is ready to play. Go back and read Max Olson's story when he talked to Trent Dilfer. If they get a QB with 2 or 3 years left then that should tell you all you need to know about the QB's on campus.

Mitch (Milwaukee)

Are 7, 8 wins the new norm for the Horns?

Sean Adams
  (12:30 PM)

I didn't even go to Texas and I hope not. Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, USC, Michigan and other traditional programs make the game of college football better. The Texas fans and administration would never let that be the norm in my opinion.

Seth (Garland, Tx)

Who is going to replace Trey Hopkins for the Alamo Bowl... I think this could be crucial, He has been our best OL this year in most people's minds

Sean Adams
  (12:33 PM)

Mack did not know hat they were going to do until they met as a staff but if it were me I would make Luke Poehlmann the 5th OL and shuffle it around until I had my five. The art is t get the best five on the field.

Corey (Dallas, TX)

Has Texas A&M taken over the lead as the big dog in the state of Texas?

Sean Adams
  (12:40 PM)

No, Texas will be never be taken over. Even when they are average they will still recruit well. I think it is more of Texas A&M taking their natural place in the state and national pecking order. It was sad, frankly, that a state the size of Texas, with the football in the state did not have its two biggest universities dealing blows to the CFB national landscape. The Longhorns and the Aggies should be Top 15 programs every single year.

Rolando (Austin)

Sean, in your mind, why has Texas failed to get it done the past 3 seasons? What's wrong with Texas?

Sean Adams
  (12:45 PM)

No passion, lack of leadership and lack of accountability. It really is that simple. They have the athletes and frankly I like their coaching staff. Even when things are not going well I don't hardly ever see Texas mad. Times have been hard enough in the last 3 years that genuine anger should have shown up at the press conferences more. Even if they are faking at the press conferences, we should see it more on the sidelines. A lot of it goes back to the notion that there is a lack of 'bad cops' on the staff.

Steve (Detroit)

A&M or Sooners in the Cotton Bowl? Big 12 does not want to lose this one!

Sean Adams
  (12:47 PM)

I think the Big 12 will lose this one. Notre Dame wouldn't even make the Final Four if there was an eight team playoff. Texas A&M and Florida are two teams that I would not want to play this bowl season. It will be close but I think the Aggies win.

Mark (Sacramento, CA)

Texas is in conference that is going to keep having teams leave for other conferences. Is the Big 12 done and we don't even know it?

Sean Adams
  (12:49 PM)

The granting of rights will keep EVERYONE from leaving. The Big 12 is like the cemetery, they are taking in, not giving out. No school will forfeit that much money.

Bob (Boston)

Garrett Gilbert over Andrew Luck; Johnny Football as a DB; RG111 to Baylor. Case McCoy with a weak throwing arm. Who's evaluating QB prospects for the Horns?

Sean Adams
  (12:54 PM)

Helen Keller? I'm just kidding. Everyone missed on Gilbert, he was the Gatorade National Player of the Year. Let's be honest Sumlin missed on Manziel while he was at Houston. Guy Morris didn't want RGIII. Briles was one o the only ones that pegged him for greatness. Ash is Harsin's only QB so he needs time in that department to develop the position.

Taylor (Dallas, Tx)

Sean, why does Texas play so soft in the trenches? Are they just young? Are they just lacking toughness? It's embarrassing watching us get blown off the ball by schools that aren't supposed to have the type of athletes that we have. Your thoughts.

Sean Adams
  (1:01 PM)

Most toughness set on any team is set by the front seven. I do think the offensive line will make a big leap in 2013. Frankly the defensive line did not answer the bell. They can be called soft because they didn't play hard at times. They have the talent and that's why it all goes back to coaching and accountability. That is tackling, scheme, attitude and the like. Texas lot the soft label for a while and somehow have it back now. Crazy enough, they didn't have it with Tomey and Muchamp for the most part.
