Happy Tuesday - and happy fantasy football playoff week. You might be down a couple roster options this week with the latest injuries...
Good Afternoon Stephania, any word on Ray Rice's "slight" hip pointer I know it's Tuesday, but, he's my ticket to the next round.
Joe: Well, thought we should start with an optimistic one. You're right, it's Tuesday. But we'll take what we know so far which is that no one on Ravens seemed overly concerned, he played through the injury in that game. As of now, expect he plays.
Stephania, I know you've gotten alot of questions about Dez, but assuming he plays what can we expect to see from him in terms of production? Will this type of injury hamper him enough to be a non-factor?
Matt: So just to reiterate, as of now there is no word as to whether he will undergo season-ending surgery. No doubt he wants to play but the concern seems to be whether he would risk long-term complications if he does not have the surgery immediately. The challenge if he does play will be how to protect the finger but not change his ability to catch the ball. There's no arguing it will be different with something on the finger, or two fingers taped together, but he played with them taped at the end of last game (and I believe scored a TD after the injury). He would have a chance to practice and tweak whatever they opt to do to protect it. But for a receiver, a chronic issue of stiffness/deformity, etc in the index finger could be a bigger problem. So we'll have to see what the decision is.
Jared: It would appear that way. Ruled out for this week but with the broken ribs, it would seem he is done.
Stephania, the million dollar question. Does RG3 play and if he does will he be severly limited? Or should I not risk it and play Kaep?
Matt: You're right, it is the million dollar questions. The honest answer is no one knows. Shanahan says they will see how he looks Weds. The issue will be whether he can move well enough to play as close to his normal style of play as possible without risking further injury. They may not know that until the end of the week. I would not be surprised if he is out. Then again, he has shown himself to be a pretty quick healer and we don't know exactly (with a Grade 1 sprain) just how compromised he really is. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best and with any luck we'll know by Friday.
Your best guess: Chances Shady Plays Thursday?
Brendon: Feel pretty good about the chances he does NOT play. If it weren't a Thursday game the feeling might be different but the hurdles left and the time fram don't mesh.
Hey Steph - how aboout DMC this week vs KC
Bryson: McFadden was already running Monday and reportedly looked like he was moving very well. Said the "re-injury" was more of a scare than anything else. Expect he plays.
Hi Starpharnia! IS D. Murray safe to start? He looks slow and maybe not healed as much?
Dan: Murray is safe to start. You have to keep in mind that he is just getting back after a month out and even he didn't know how his foot was going to hold up initially. Part of his struggles are the team's struggles on the line but as far as injury goes, the foot does not seem to be the culprit.
Stephania, what are your thoughts on Amendola making it back this week? He's great in our PPR league when he's active, and I'd much prefer to start him over Givens who barely showed up for me last week.
Jeremy: According to Jeff Fisher, they're much better than last week. They warmed him up before last week's game but weren't comfortable letting him go out there (probably a lesson learned from the outing a few weeks ago when he only lasted a few snaps). They said they wanted him closer to 100% but it sounds like his foot has turned a corner. They want him to return to his workload when he returns so if he's back, that's encouraging.
Nicks a better option as of late. Still looks hampered? Thanks
LDG: Yes, still hampered...and probably will be for the remainder of your fantasy playoffs. Of course hampered means he could have 5 points or 15 depending on the night but the bottom line is the knee in particular is still likely to be an X factor each week. How he does could depend on how the knee bheaves week to week.
Hi, Stephania!! What's the latest on Bradshaw? I have Wilson chomping at the bit! Thanks!
Jerry: No update from team. They didn't give info about his MRI after his neck injury earlier this year. He did. They won't be around until Weds - and he generally doesn't practice on those days - so you may not hear much before Thursday.
Any news on Gronk? I'm a Hernandez owner and I want to know if I need to keep a backup for week 17 if I make the super bowl
Matt: Nothing at all. With a Monday night game we won't hear anything until Weds. My thought all along was that this week COULD be the week he returned - soonest possible. It all depends on what they see as far as bone healing. If he returns to even limited practice late in the week, consider that a good sign. Although, they looked quite fine without him last night which could mean they hold off, if there is any question.
I'm sure you have gotten a million of these, but should mjd just be shut down for the season so owners like me can stop worrying, or is he coming back? Is he worth a play after all this time off?
It would be nice if he was because then owners wouldn't be wondering and I wouldn't have to keep saying there's nothing new. There is undoubtedly information in the background but no one has been inclined to share it. The last time MJD spoke a month ago he said he'd be back in 2 weeks. That didn't exactly happen. He needs to at least get into practice to even be considered for return. Yes, he still could return but you certainly can't count on him.
My friends make fun of me because I always start cutler over brees on my team. I love cutler. Who should I go with this week?
Kevin: Well, do you win? Most years, yes, that would be crazy but this year hasn't been the best for Brees. If this helps you to continue your streak, Cutler says he fully expects to play against Green Bay this week.
Any word from the Jags on Cecil's status for this week?
No. But coach Mike Mularkey wsa ill this week and did not do his regular Monday update on players. So we are forced to wait until Weds.
So with FJax all but done for the year, I'm a top 8 RB option ROS, right? I know that coach has the "Choice" to give carries to other players, but they just aren't as good as me.
You're in luck since Chan Gailey basically said Choice was not the same caliber back as you C.J. Official bump up in your workload now that FJax is done for the year.
Thoughts on Jordy moving forward?? Thanks for the help Stephania
Zach: McCarthy says he has hope that Nelson will be back this week but I would reserve judgment until we see that Nelson can even run at full speed. No indication yet of when they plan to test him but given that this was a recurrence of a prior injury, I would imagine they would be more cautious, especially if they hope to avoid something that could carry into postseason.
Should I expect my main man Demaryius to have any lingering effects from his shoulder scare? Prognosis?
Don't think so given the fact he came back and played extensively following the scare...
What's the prognosis on Ray Rice? Any expected limitations or effects of a "minor hip pointer?"
Matt: Even minor hip pointers can be painful depending how much bruising there is in the area. But Rice played through the OT after suffering the injury. Expect he plays but wouldn't surprise if he's limited in practice. Doubt he will let it limit him on gameday.
Any updates on Pettigrew
Nathan: injured his ankle early in the game. Was slated to go through a bunch of tests Monday. No report from Detroit (although they don't usually say much anyway). Imagine Weds when he either turns up or doesn't in practice will be the first we'll hear more.
thanks for touching on Ray Rice twice
Alex: So folks like you can write things like that.
Any news on Maclin? Worth thinking about playing this week?
It does sound like they think he could play this week. Groin injury but hopeful.
I pulled off the upset last week but my matchup this week is going to be much tougher. I have Jordy Nelson and Kenny Britt has been on my bench for weeks. Is Britt finally healthy enough to plug in if Jordy is a no go or should I go after say Blackmon or Josh Gordon?
Nate: Britt finally had a really good outing. This is interesting. You get a MNF game against the Jets and Jared Cook now out with a rotator cuff tear (not that he consistently was a target but he's not even there now). I think he has the chance for a solid game and I probably plug him in. Admittedly Gordon has put up good numbers the last few weeks so he's hard to argue with in that spot.
What are the odds that J. Stewart stays out for another week?
Adam: Think they're pretty high. No practic yet and I'm not convinced he's that close to returning.
Struggling mightily with my Week 15 QB decision. Aaron Rodgers or Josh Freeman? Before you yell at me for even asking, note Rodgers had 10 fantasy points vs the Bears earlier this season while Freeman had 35 vs New Orleans. Best pass D vs worst. Do YOU still start Rodgers??
JB: I would never yell at you...But I stick with Rodgers. I do like Freeman lately but I also think the Bears D is not what they were earlier in the season. And Rodgers I think more consistently gives you the best chance for more points.
I'm assuming that with the concussion requirements theres no way Celek returns thursday...
Brian: He's actually already ruled out. Vick and McCoy are not officially out yet per the team but no one thinks that either of them is going to play.
What in fact is a "pointer"?
Bruising over the anterior part of the pelvis. There are muscular attachments there so bruising and swelling is not only painful, it can inhibit the ability of the muscles to contract (therefore decreasing power).
Do you have any details or thought about Robbie Gould's injury and what would prompt the Bears to place him on the IR?
KJ: He had a calf strain and was injured pregame last week. Ended up playing but it may have become apparent that it was more serious post.
Hi Stephania, What are your thoughts on Greg Jennings this week, with or without Jordy Nelson? Understand weather played a factor on his performance this past week.
Tony: He only gets better with more time between the him and the surgery. So I like Jennings more as the weeks progress. I think the more he gets back in a groove with Rodgers, the more he looks to him. Rodgers has commented on how much he likes having Jennings in the lineup because of his comfort with what he can do.
HAKEEM NICKS FOLLOW UP; Do you expect he plays through it barring another setback? Does he follow the "Bradshaw practice schedule?"
Matt: I do think Nicks keeps playing. There's always the chance that he has some sort of big setback which precludes him from going. But I think the more likely scenario is that his knee is a bit up and down, perhaps, yes, he follwos the Bradshaw practice schedule, but then I expect him to end up playing.
Is Vick Ballard ok to go against Houston after being dinged up against the Titans?
Eeric: All indications are that he will be able to play - but it is against the Texans who for the most part, have had a stout run defense. And they're going to be angry.
Have to make my decision by Thursday - play Dalton or wait to see if RGIII can go on Sunday?
Well, rob, I wait until Thursday. See what the aftereffects of Weds practice are for RGIII, if he can even practice. And then, if you have to make the call and there's any uncertainty, I go with the sure thing in Dalton.
OK - time to go. Thanks to all who came with the great questions. Thanks to John, Missy, Michael and all the other nice folks out there. Hope to see you back here Firday at 11:15 a.m. Have a great week!
