It was a fun Week 14 from beginning to end. Let's chat about it.
Hey James, which jets do you think could make it to the pro bowl this year?
Interesting question, Tommy. I would say, on merit, CB Antonio Cromartie deserves consideration. He's stepped up as the No. 1 CB without Darrelle Revis. Wilkerson also has played well in the second half of the year but I think you need to put it together longer to make the Pro Bowl.
That's on merit. As far as name, Nick Mangold always has a shot because he's one of the top centers when healthy. But I don't think he's had a Pro Bowl year.
Should the Bills trade Fred Jackson?
I don't see much value in return for a 31-year-old RB with injury concerns. What will that get on the trade market? A fifth-round pick? Jackson is more valuable to the Bills than what he would get back. He's just hitting the wall with injuries. It happens.
biggest reason(s) for the patriots improvement on defense?
I would say it's young players coming of age. Dennard, Hightower and Chandler Jones are playing like veterans now and that wasn't the case earlier. These rookies have been coached up very well and it's starting to show.
Do you think its possible for bengals and steelers to lose out?
That wouldn't be possible because they play each other in Week 16. Someone has to win that game.
If you were the Bills GM, what would you do?
I would wait until the final three games are over and look at everything. Maybe the Bills win three in a row and finished 8-8. Who knows?
can we give spiller 30 carries and 5 passes a game for the rest of the season?
You may have to change the coach now if you want that to happen.
Can miami still be in it if steelers and bengals lose out?
The Dolphins and Bills still have a mathematical chance. But so many things have to happen that they realistically are out of it. But both teams need to finish strong. The Jets are the only team with a shot at the wild card.
James - accepting that Sanchez will open as the Jets starting QB next year what do they need to do in order to improve the offense?
The money says Sanchez will start. But you never know. New York may find a cheaper alternative. But they can't afford to pay another QB $8 million. The Jets need to get Sanchez some receivers and a consistent running game. He needs everything around him to be perfect. And the Jets offense is far from that.
Is this sunday's matchup between san fransisco and new england a super bowl preview?
I picked the Patriots vs. the Packers in the preseason and I'm sticking with that. I think San Francisco will regret going with Kaepernick too soon.
What free agent receivers will be available at the end of the season that the Dolphins can actually sign? Also do you think there is any chance to get Fitz from the cards, if so what do you think the Cards will want in return?
It's interesting because the free-agent class at WR is very strong but the draft is not. Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings would all be good fits for Miami. Either of these guys would work. I think the Dolphins also have to bring back Brian Hartline, but as a No. 2 receiver and move Bess to No. 3. That would be a good start.
Do you think miami would have been doing better if they would started Matt Moore and kept brandon marshall?
I haven't thought about that in a long time. The Marshall trade feels so long ago. It's hard to say.
this year the bills coaching staff was the direct reason for 3 loses...they have to go?
I count St. Louis and Tennessee losses directly on Gailey. What's the third game I'm missing?
You don't seem too high on SF and they could easily lose against the Pats next week. Do you think that the Seahawks can run the table and win the NFC West?
I was asked if San Fran would make the Super Bowl in the NFC, and I said I think the Kaepernick decision could haunt them at some point. It doesn't mean the 49ers aren't a great team. I think they are very good.
the patriots are as good as they played last nite they always get terrible pass interference calls to sustain drives and hardly ever get penalties called at home. if they have to travel they r done n on the off chance they go to the superbowl theyll lose guaranted o yea fire gailey
The Texans were outplayed by the Patriots, not the refs.
is it wise for NE to risk Welker's health by having him return punts?
I thought about that last night, John. Welker is about to have another 100-catch season, and I thought it was interesting the Patriots added to his workload after Julian Edelman went down. But Welker did a solid job last night.
James, do you think that Shonn Greene is becoming the fine RB the Jets hoped he would be when they drafted him? I'm a Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and enjoyed watching Greene when he was with the Hawkeyes.
Sorry to disappoint you, Al. But I'm not a Shonn Greene guy. I don't think he's a great No. 1 back. I think he's a good No. 2, and that's where he thrived during the Jets' playoff runs. He's about to be an unrestricted free agent, and the Jets have to decide if they want to pay him starter money. I don't think they will.
Jets have been awarded WR Braylon Edwards off waivers. Interesting move.
Did you think that the Jets made a very bad Move by drafting Quintin Coples?
It was a high risk, high reward move. In fact, the Jets drafted two boom or bust players in Coples and WR Stephen Hill. It's been closer to bust so far. But I don't like to label players after their rookie seasons. It's too soon for that.
Hey James, its quaint how the weekly Sanchez-Fitz-Tannehill Watch has essentially matched the respective QBs to their teams overall record... But is Sanchez REALLY the 2nd best QB in the division??
That's why we are grading their games week-to-week to find out. Sanchez is in the lead with three games left.
What team presents the biggest challenge to the Jets winning out?
Sunday's game at Tennessee is scary. The Titans are not a typical 4-9 team. I watched them beat the Bills and Dolphins this year. Tennessee is capable of beating the Jets at home.
James I have to disagree. Finishing 8-8 would be the worst case scenario for the Bills because it would only create false hope for the future. Gailey must go (PERIOD) Fitz is not the answer (PERIOD) You need a QB-Head coach combo that is big time to compete for Championships, i.e. Brady and Belicheck. The longer Gailey and Fitz are in town the longer Bills fans have to wait for a return to respectability and hopefully prominence.
I'm not for tanking games under any circumstances. You play to win now and worry about the draft when it happens in April.
Would B. Edwards help Jets inept passing game?
He can't be worse than what the Jets currently have. New York's WRs are banged up and not that talented. Edwards only needs to chip in. He doesn't need to be a star.
Did you think Kubiak started waving the white flag too early last night?
I was there in Gillette Stadium last night, Mark. It was not Houston's night. The game was essentially over at halftime with the way New England was playing.
Is Talib the best CB in the AFC East (not counting Revis)? Tackles better than softy Cromartie right?
I need to see Talib more. But the strange thing about Cromartie is he will blast someone out of nowhere on a rare occassion. It makes you wonder why he doesn't do that more.
Here's one for ya James.. You've been to all the AFCE stadiums, who do you feel has the biggest "home field advantage" in the division?
Gillette Stadium is the toughest to play. But Buffalo has the best pre-game tailgate.
Do you think Reggie stays a dolphin or is traded to give Thomas and Miller more opportunities? Also is next year a make or break year for Jeff Ireland finally?
I think there's a less than 50 percent chance Bush returns. Yes, this is a big year for Ireland. This offseason with the draft picks and cap room with reflect on the Dolphins for the next two or three years.
Braylon Edwards...who's next, Brett Farve?
That's pretty funny.
Hey big James!!! Thanks for taking my question....How about my JETS? Everyone was laughing at them at the beginning of the year and here they are with a great chance to make the playoffs!!! Happy Holidays
Yes, Alec. New York has won two in a row to keep their playoff chances alive. But I wouldn't brag too much for beating Arizona and Jacksonville. Let's see what happens in the next few weeks.
What is the Worst AFC East Stadium that you have Been to?
In terms of what? I think Miami has the worst "home-field advantage." Fans don't show up and the good teams bring their fans to dominate the stadium.
Is New England the Super Bowl favourite right now?
Read the AFC East blog and find out.
Hey James, are the Jets about to make a post season run? During their two AFC championship seasons they were in a similar position record wise as this year.
So are you predicting the Jets in the AFC title game?
Pats may be AFC favorite, but they better hope they don't have to play Eli.
This year's Patriots are better than this year's Giants.
Who should get the ax first, Rex or Mike T?
As Far as the Building it self.
Maybe Buffalo. The Ralph has a lot of history but it's old and outdated. The Bills and Western NY need to come up with a solution by next year.
Lots of talk of the Jets running the table, do you think they do it?
The Jets have to take this thing one game at a time. Let the media and fans talk about running the table. Sunday's game against Tennessee could be a loss. I'm still debating that pick.
Does Braylon Edwards start at WR this week against the Titans?
Let's see how quickly he can learn the system. Remmeber, Edwards play under Brian Schottenheimer's offense. This is new for Edwards and will take some time to learn.
The Patriots have been in games like last nights before (tons of pre-game hype and then blow out the opponent). I can see the same thing happening Sunday against the 49'ers...do you?
The 49ers will give New England a tougher game. For starters, their CBs cover MUCH better than Houston's. That's a start.
You got Tannehill getting beat by sanchez for the second best QB in his defense he played alot better than Sanchez when he played the 49er's and he was at home.
This is about what happened this past Sunday. Tannehill couldn't make any key throws, particularly in the fourth quarter.
NE was lucky last night. The Woodhead fumble that Lloyd recovered, bogus PI calls, and tons of no calls. Houston got screwed and would destruy them in a rematch.
These two teams could face each other again in Janaury. So we will see.
If Barkeley or Geno Smith Are available when Jets or Buff pick could you see them going that route?
Both will probably be top 10 if Barkley can prove he's healthy. I don't think the Bills or Jets will finish with a top 10 pick.
Im just saying everybody keeps saying Tannehill is hitting the wall, he has less wepons than all the other rookie QB's and played to pretty good defenses the last two weeks.
It's fair that Tannehill has less weapons. But his numbers are going down from the first half of the season with the same weapons. He is hitting the wall.
Everyone, thanks again for the question. Let's chat at the same time next week.
