OK, let's get started.
Would you place hoza Scott above some of the young line backers thatwe currently have. And also would are recruiting worries be solved are atleast help if. We have a great next year
Hoza is a very good linebacker and it is hard to project how god he will be. But Peter Jinkens is no slouch. I think Texas is very happy with him.
I read that we are currently looking at south Carolina qb .why are Texas even considring a qb who can't get in there field .now I don't believe Ash us the answer he's delivery is to slow .but y not give a shot to overstreet are brewer.
Texas is not confident any of the four QBs they have int eh program can get the job done so they are looking for a quick fix.
Given the year and momentum Texas A&M currently has where do you predict the Aggies to open the 2013 season at? What kind of impact could the week three game against Alabama at Kyle field have on the SEC West and National Title races?
Well if they beat OU in the bowl then they could every well be top 10 maybe even top five but they are going to lose some talent on the offensive line. The game with Bama will be interesting. Early edge to Bama just because it has so much depth.
How should Texas' recruiting efforts change to combat A&M's current momentum? How can A
Mack needs to hit the road and be more aggressive. He needs face time with coaches and players. But texas still has 10 top 00 players so all is not lost.
Gut feeling will Longhorns be able to salvage some of the negative trends in recruiting? We need some good news
I don't think this year ends all that well with high school players but they will get some juco guys. Texas did not need to have a huge class this year. The 2011 class was so good and deep that it is carrying them.
Hey Will, whatcha think is going to happen to Diaz? is he gettin fired or will he comeback strong?
I think he is given every chance to get another job and if that does not happen he is asked to step aside.
Mack says the arrow is pointed up for the program, but there doesnt appear to be any evidence of that. In the past 3 years they haven't beaten a top team, recruiting seems to be slipping, and the coaching staff seems unable to develop players. Is there any reason to believe Mack's hype?
Not until they prove it on the field and a win over Oregon State - a team that has 15 bowl appearances in school history -- is not a program turning moment.
With the rumors of Harsin to Arky State and Diaz to FIU, would Mack have the wherewithal to stay for another season by having to rebuild the coaching staff again?
Texas would be in much better shape if Mack were able to change some assistants out that better suited his style and management skills. The current mix of coaches is not great. All can coach. But they have a hard time coaching together so some new guys who could stand to be more micro managed might be better fits.
What do we have to do to get a real X'S and O's head coach in Austin. Is it all about the money / his legacy at this point with Mack? Because NO ONE ON CAMPUS not named Powers or Dodds wants this guy around. grrrr
Mack makes money for UT. Tons of money. This sports is about money. Texas was one of the few schools to have a slight increase in attendance in 2012 believe it or not. As soon as people stop spending money on Texas then Mack will be removed as head coach if he continues to win less then nine or 10 games.
I don't know if I've ever seen a school gain so much momentum in one year than A&M has this year and it kills me as a horns fan. I think UT will always be the big dog in the state and I'm interested to see how Manziel does next year without those stud tackles, thoughts?
I believe that TAMU slips a bit. The o line was very good. I see them as 9-3.
Is our defense going to be as mediocre next season as it was this year? Our biggest leaders in Okafor and Vocarro are leaving so we are looking for someone to fill the leadership roles which is the same thing as we were coming into this year, IMO having jeffcoat back is a big help to that
Jinkens, Diggs, Hicks, Jeffcoat are all back. there is no reason to believe they will not be better. But I'm not buying it till i see them play against OU.
For me personally I'm kind of glad we didn't get RSJ, he will probably end up being a great talent but seems like he is the type of star player that would never end up really developing at UT like most of the high ranked ones before
Hard to tell but TAMU is going to be able to use a guy like that immediately
seems to me like we have a hard problem developing our highly touted prospects coming in why is that? i know its just a number on paper but they have shown that they have elite skills
True. Texas is decent at developing about 22 guys but when it comes to developing depth they are not very good at all. Simply put, Texas has to have a tremendous amount of talent to overcome the lack of game-day coaching and practice coaching it receives.
How's it going Will? What's up with the recruiting class this year for the hoop squad? Julius Randle would look nice in a Horns jersey.
They are more worried about this year's guys. Barnes will recruit late this year and pick up scraps.
Is Texas going to get Billings? Any of the JUCO kids? We gotta get someone
Where do the horns stand with James Clark?
Billings is still a toss up. All of the juco guys that were at the banquet had nice things to say and I think Texas should get one or two.
Sorry messed up the order of posts there. The next question was about James Clark. Status right now is they are trying to get him on campus but it feels like a late reach to me for Texas to have to go to Florida to get a wide receiver this late in the game.
Hey Carter, I have three questions/comments for you today:1) Any chance that coaches consider working out Brewer for the Bowl game? What have we got to lose? I get that we will effectively burn Brewer's redshirt year if we do so, but with Overstreet, Swoopes, Heard, and potential JUCO QBs on deck, he might feel like transferring this Spring. We know what we have in Ash and McCoy (which is not much), so let's give someone else a try. 2) Do you think JGray and DJohnson are now at the top of depth chart for the bowl game? To me it comes down to elimination process: Brown is good but is injury-prone and Bergeron is not a powerback. I don't care how many times Mack tries to say that, show me the highlight reel of Bergeron in Big XII play and I promise you that he broke less than 5 tackles total in Big XII play. And the argument that DJohnson is not a legit RB is nonsense, Tavon Austin is similar speedster and he ripped off 300+ yds against OU at HB position. So give him more than 5 touches a game and see what happens. 3) Is Jinkens transferring? Saw that Naashon Hughes is no longer a grayshirt, so I was wondering if one of the OLBs is now transferring.
No Brewer will not play in Alamo.Gray is the No. 1 back and Brown is the No. 2 back.No way Jinkens leaves. He is going to be a starter next year.
Any more insight to the Longhorn Network report that FIU is interested in Diaz? And if so, should Texas be worried?
FIU is looking at Houston Nutt. A lot of agents are floating stuff out there right now. It's going to be very hard for Diaz to get a HC job with what happened at Texas this year. But FIU is one place he could get one because his dad, the former mayor of Miami, is well connected there.
Hey Carter, who will have had the better career at UT: Vince Young, Case McCoy, or David Ash? Also, I heard your golf game is in need of some work.
VY. He won the title.Still a single digit handicap so I'm OK.
What's the latest on A'Shawn? Your guess whether or not he ends up at Texas?
Well that is a tough one to guess because USC is very tough to turn down and with Texas having issues he might want to try it out there. I'd say Texas has a 60/40 edge since they already have his commitment.
How big a season is next year for the Longhorns to curb the recruiting momentum in Texas that Kevin Sumlin has going down in College Station?
Pretty big but 2014s are already letting it be known they are excited abut TAMU. Hoza Scott should officially announce for TAMU this week.
What is texas' target number for commits for 2013? It seems it must be higher than 14 or whatever it stands at now. It seems there are some traditional recruits they are targeting but probably not enough to get to 20+. Does this mean increased Juco recruiting (outside of possible QBs)?
They are at 14 right now and could go around 18 or maybe even as high as 20. They don't want to go much higher than that so they can build a big 2014 class. You can only sign 50 over two years.
If Harrison comes in, do you think he'll automatically start? How important is it that UT finds a suitable FB/complete TE for next season's offense?
I think Texas is OK at tackle but maybe they could shift some guys around and get Dom out of the center spot. If Harrison could play guard and let Walters or Hopkins play center that might not be a bad deal.
What do we have to do to get a new coach here in Austin? Our coaches record is horrible the last three years. Can anyone please help us players being held hostage by an ego maniac!
Stop spending money on the program. Texas made $163 million last year.
Will Cobbs get his starting job back again in September? I know it's a long way ahead, but I really like the way Jinkens has played. I could see him being the WLB starter when the '13 season comes around.
No. He didn't start after the first few games. He was a third down guy. Jinkens played well and Jackson was solid too.
If Manny leaves Texas or if the fire him...who are the likely candidates to take over?
I think you have to look at Chizik because it worked once before. I've always liked Randy Shannon at TCU but not sure if this is the right fit for him.
Please tell me Barnes is going to be able to pull in the remaining 2 best bball recruits in the state - Randle and Frazier!! Based on what you know, what are the chances?
Slim. Have you watched Texas in comparison to BU or any other program recruiting those two?
Do you think Mack can handle how ugly Austin will be next year for him?
He has not handled it that well to this point so no
who wins the QB battle of 2013 for the starting job next fall? and this includes the Frosh and Swoopes.
Ash wins it by default.
What is the general feeling in the locker room about possible coaching changes and the upcoming bowl game?
Offensive players would not be crushed if Harsin were to leave.Defensive players really believe in Diaz.Don't think it would hurt either side of the ball in the long run though.
Is 2013 Mack's final year regaedless of results? I feel like it is. The only way I see him returning for 2014 is if Texas finishes something like 12-1 -- just missing the chance to play for the national title.
Had to tell. I think he really wants to name the guy who is the next UT coach so that is going to play into it. say he has a great year and Major is the OC, can he then hand it over to Major or does he need to wait another year?
Do you see Overstreet or Brewer coming in to the QB equation next year at all?
Only as backups. If they had faith in them they would not be recruiting JC QBs.
I was curious if Texas could take a different approach. Mack makes approx a farley hefty sum. Would it be feasible for him to step to a new position. He could still make some decent coin, run recruiting, work the LHN magic and be the players avocate... a stepping stone on the way to AD. Thoughts?
Everyone wants Deloss to retire and Mack to become AD. I think when Mack quits he will step away from football and athletics for a bit before doing some TV work or working for UT.
I know Kabongo has been out, but is Rick Barnes' job going to be in jeopardy by the end up the year? Coming up short in the tournament the last 4 years with all the talent we have had is not good. I would love to see a run to steal Brad Stevens from Butler!
Not going to happen. Barnes has been hugely successful as the coach of a program no one really pays attention to. He gets to the tournament and that is what is asked of hi. This year will be the first time he has not made it since he arrived at Texas.
What is the coaching staff worse at...practice and development in the offseason and midweek, or play calls and adjustments during the actual game?
Development during the week.Defense is decent at making adjustments in the game but they always give up a ton of yards in the first half. Offense is good in its first 15 plays but fails to adjust after that.So it is a mixed bag
Is Texas signing a JUCO QB and if do which one?
The Harsin job stuff has put this on hold for a bit and they are going to lose Waters and Marshall I think to KSU, PSU or maybe even IU. That leaves McEvoy
True or False: The Erwin Center is the worst basketball arena in the Big 12? In my opinion, it is WAY too big!! None of the top bball programs even have gyms that big. Duke, Kansas, Indiana, etc. all have small/intimate = loud gyms.
Have you ever been to Lloyd Noble?
Could UT pay Kirby Smart enough to leave 'Bama for UT?
When UT signs a JUCO QB, who will transfer and/or decommit?
Brewer would be my guess and quite possibly Ash.
Are you guys going to cover the women's volleyball team making it to the final 4?
ESPNW will have some stuff on that but I will not be there covering it. Also will be on ESPNU.
If Diaz is not retained, who might be some names to look at for replacing him?
Already answered check below.
With Texas' history when it comes to recruiting Canadians, how come they haven't been linked with Wiggins, one can dream. Most up here think it's 90% he goes to FSU.
That pipeline appears to have ended with Kabongo.
just joined the chat so I dont know if you answered this already, but do you see Manny Diaz still coaching at Texas next season?
Do you think any of the Juco guys could be the Starting QB next year?
The last choice is going to be McEvoy so I will say no. Had they been able to get Waters then maybe.
Carter, people and mostly texas fans need to chill out on david ash. The kid is still just a sophmore and made huge leaps in his game. He will continue to get better. Do you think texas fans are being irrational when it comes to this team. Vince young his sophmore season threw for less tham 2000 yards 60% completion rate and 12tds to 11int and he turned out pretty good
He was vastly improved. QB rating was 154 this year as opposed to 106 last year and he completed 66 percent of his passes as opposed to 58 percent. The two benchings were what freaked people out. And then the coaches going after JC guys didn't help.He will be the stater next year imo
With Diaz not proving his defensive coaching abilities, could this bowl game be the make or break on his time in Austin?
Yes but i think he has going to be gone regardless.
Why isnt Barnes on the coaching hotseat?
Because no one really cares that much about hoops and he has been to 15 straight NCAA tournaments
Will Major take over as the head OC if Harsin leaves? And how does Case ever see the field in my opinion he has no business in D1 football. He looks like an FCS QB.
I think Major is the guy no doubt. Case pulls out some crazy plays and that is wht. He did hit 17 straight passes against KSU.
Mr. Strickland, is there any method at all or is it just madness when it comes to the NCAA and the status of Kabongo ?
None. The NCAA is a terrible organization that is full of red tape.
Will Deloss Dodds ever retire? His lack of on-field, on-court performance and obsession over profitability only is the root cause of our athletic problems.
He also built the best facilities and athletic program in the country so there is that.
Why all the hate for brown? Where wa texas when he got here? And seriously who thinks bringing in someone new is going to fix anything? We won't get saben or Kelley or someone already great, we get someone unproved and are in a rebuilding state. These so allied longhorn fans don't want that. If you do you weren't wearing bury orange 15 years ago
Brown will be at Texas next year and 2014 if he wants to be.
aside from A'Shawn, who do you see as the most important recruit to the 2013 class?
Good questions. I will go Raulerson because he is a winner and is tough.
Change up: does the Texas volleyball team win it all?
They rolled over USC so it will be tough to stop them
McEvoy. Have you seen tape on him? What do you think?
Heard he was not very good at all in practice at South Carolina. Have not seen his JC tape. Off the field issues a big worry there.
Will any of the Frosh WRs make an impact next year or truly be counted on to contribute?
Jones was very good this year when he hit the feild. Sanders will be a big hit too.
Who do you think we're in danger of losing due to transfer this Spring?
Right now i think Texas is OK unless they bring in a JC QB then two guys might leave.
What Texas lacks on both sides of the ball is a mean streak that will allow them to impose themselves physically on the opposition for 60 minutes. Those type of performances are what Mack envisioned when he tweaked his program, but his team, especially the O and D line have not measured up. Unless that changes, I do not see Texas as a force in the future - thoughts?
I agree. The line play is awful on the offensive side of the ball. They get beat up against every team with speed and tenacity. Searels has not done a good job at all.
I agree with Jason. Ash is pretty good and will get better. The play calling put him in bad positions a lot.
Harsin failed to utilize his best weapons in DJ, Goodwin and Daje.
Given the recent recruiting battle losses to a lot of teams in the Big 12 and to Texas A&M, how much long term impact is this going to have on the Longhorns over the next few years? Winning leads to better prospects and now that Texas has to compete with A
Texas will always get what it needs in recruiting. It has to develop those guys and start putting more guys into the pros though.
I know this is a dumb question, but knowing what you know now who would you choose to be QB in 2015: Brewer, Overstreet, or Swoopes
That is tough but I will go Brewer
OK looks like you guys are tapped out on questions. Hit me up on the forum if you have any other questions. Thanks.
